Lebron James won his second Player of the Month this season playing for the Miami Heat. For the month of January James averaged 27.1 points, 5.8 assists, 3.9 rebounds, 1.9 steals and 1.2 blocks to pilot the Eastern Conference leaders to a 13-1 record. He logged a triple double against Philadelphia with 17 points, 12 assists and 10 rebounds.
Kevin King from the Toronto Raptors again won the Rookie of the Month award for January. He averaged 17.0 points, 4.3 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.4 steals with the Raptors going 7-8 in the month.
No trades this month as the deadline is fast approaching. I’m not really itching to make a deal yet as we had a big month and we are still 13 games above .500.
Our first game for February is a massacre, with us losing to Milwaukee 96-67. Our top scorer was Shane Battier with 11 points. We shoot 32% from the field and I decide to put everyone on the trading block.
Toronto Raptors 30-18
We win at home 101-92 against the Nuggets with Sam Dalembert coming up big with 20 points and 8 rebounds. Kenyon Martin has his turn at C with 16 points and 16 rebounds but we have 6 players in double figures and run them over.
Toronto Raptors 31-18
Rajon Rondo tears New Jersey apart in our 104-94 win with 21 points, 17 assists and 8 rebounds. It astounds me that he has not yet had a triple double because he has been so close many times. Sam Dalembert helps out with 16 points, 11 rebounds and 5 blocks while keeping Brook Lopez to 16 points and 7 rebounds.
Toronto Raptors 32-18
The next day the 35-13 Heat squeak out an overtime win over the 6-43 Suns, 113-99. They outscore Phoenix 19-5 in the extra period.
ANOTHER tough game against the 35-13 Lakers and it’s a crazy 131-115 win. There is too many stats to go through so like the Clippers loss, here is a picture to tell the story:

We sneak a 98-95 win over the upstart Knicks, with Sam Dalembert grabbing the most rebounds anyone has this season with 27, with 22 points. 13 of those rebounds were offensive, just a truly dominant display. Timofey Mozgov steps up when Amar’e Stoudemire goes down with a broken toe 4 minutes into the game with 16 points, 17 rebounds and 7 blocks while playing all 48 minutes.
Toronto Raptors 34-18
I would love to nab Mozgov. He is still very raw but he is starting now and growing into his enormous potential. I go round and round with the Knicks and finally get a deal done.
Toronto trades:
PG TJ Ford
C Dennis Edwards
2012 1st round pick (TOR)
New York trades:
C Timofey Mozgov
Why for Toronto:
Mozgov is still raw but GM Felix Elwood saw something that excited him. Their frontcourt depth is now one of the best in the league.
Why for New York:
It’s a bit unfortunate that they traded Mozgov now as Amar’e Stoudemire gone with a broken toe for over a month. This gives more playing time to enigmatic Anthony Randolph. The pick will be in the 20s.
Winner – New York
Toronto has no PG depth now and Dennis Edwards looks good. The pick will help and the only way things will change if Mozgov becomes dominant.
Whatever, I still like it. Mozgov is now the 6th man. I sign Jerome Randle as our new bench PG. Our depth at PG is now woefully thin, so I’m looking for a follow up trade.
Mozgov has a fairly good game with 4 points and 7 rebounds in our 104-91 win over San Antonio. Kevin King played great with 21 points and 12 rebounds with Rajon Rondo handing out 16 assists. Manu Ginobili top scores with 15 but on 20 shots.
Toronto Raptors 35-18
David West goes off for 36 points and 10 rebounds in their 109-90 win over us. Chris Paul and Rajon Rondo play to a stalemate and Timofey Mozgov starts with 7 points, 10 rebounds and 5 blocks. DeMar DeRozan is our backup PG and I need to find a better one.
Toronto Raptors 35-19
I find a PG, but one out of left field.
Toronto trades:
SF Da’Sean Butler
2012 2nd round pick (TOR)
2013 2nd round pick (TOR)
2013 2nd round pick (OKC)
Orlando trades:
PG Andrew Norwood
Why for Toronto:
After trading away TJ Ford the Raptors had a huge hole at PG so a follow up trade was needed. Norwood, who was picked 27th in the previous draft, is already a fantastic defender and above average passer but the thing about him is his work ethic. He is the definition of a gym rat, Kobe Bryant work ethic. GM Elwood thinks he has a diamond in the rough.
Why for Orlando:
They already have Jameer Nelson and Chris Duhon at PG so they decided to get a tenacious defender in Butler to go against the James’ and Pierce’s of the NBA. The picks will probably be low in the draft.
Winner – Toronto
Norwood looks like a great kid and they picked Butler off the free agency pile to fill up a roster spot. The 2nd round picks will be inconsequencial.
I had had my eye on Norwood ever since he was draft because he is such a good kid and he has a huge heart, just what we need here.
Our first game since the trade was a 116-107 win over Dallas, in Dallas. Kevin King goes mental for a massive 42 points, while Rajon Rondo dishes out an equally outrageous 20 assists. Andrew Norwood gets 14 minutes for 4 points and 3 assists. Dirk Nowitzki nabs 35 points on 18 shots, which isn’t too shabby.
Toronto Raptors 36-19
It’s All Star Weekend and we start with the dunk contest. Unknown Pape Sy (ATL) demolishes Gerald Henderson (CHA) with a score of 65-54. Other contestants were Jamerio Moon (CLE) and Victor Claver (POR).
It’s an Atlanta double with young gun Jordan Crawford winning the Long Distance Shootout, beating out Mike Miller (MIA) and Xavier Henry (MEM). Other contestants being Paul Pierce (BOS), Raja Bell (UTA), Rashard Lewis (ORL), Jason Richardson (LAL) and Stephen Curry (GSW).
The Sophomores pound on the Rookies 124-99 with John Wall (WAS) winning the MVP with 24 points, 10 assists and 8 rebounds.
Notable players were –
Kevin King (TOR) – 11 points
Jason Beck (CHA) – 18 points, 12 rebounds
Dennis Edwards (NYK) – 2 points (in his 3 games with the Knicks, all starts, he has averaged 7.3 points, 13.3 rebounds and 2.7 blocks per game. Whoops.)
Timofey Mosgov (TOR) – 2 points
Evan Turner (PHI) – 19 points.
The All Star game was also a laugher with the East winning 143-119. We actually have an All Star this time (you won’t guess who) with Rajon Rondo getting 11 minutes and accumulating 6 points and 7 assists. Derrick Rose (CHI) gets the MVP with 30 points, 10 assists and 7 rebounds.
Some strange selections were Brendan Haywood (DAL) starting and the East having 4 Cs in Dwight Howard (ORL), Yao Ming (CLE), Andrew Bogut (MIL) and Brook Lopez (NJN). Other than that the selections were pretty much spot on.
After a 6 day break we somehow win against Utah 88-84. Rajon Rondo was the standout with 19 points, 9 assists and 5 rebounds but to be honest no player on either team took the game by the horns, which is probably why it didn’t feel like much of a game.
Toronto Raptors 37-19
We squeeze out another close game, this tie 104-102 to the Clippers. Blake Griffin shows his class with 31 points and 13 rebounds but Rajon Rondo steps up with 24 points and 16 assists. Ed Davis goes toe to toe with Griffin after Antawn Jamison was plagued by foul trouble with 12 points and 7 rebounds to Davis.
Toronto Raptors 38-19
An absolute snorer of a game with us beating the Timberwolves 94-85. The highest scorer of the game was Timofey Mozgov who is starting with Sam Dalembert injured with 16 points, and adding 14 rebounds. Not my cup of tea.
Toronto Raptors 39-19
On the last day of February we play the worst of the worst, the 8-49 Phoenix Suns. And we win by a measly 2 points, 109-107. Kevin King top scores with 22 points and Steve Nash turns back the clock with 26 points and 8 assists. I’m just happy we won against them or I would never hear the end of it.
Toronto Raptors 40-19
So to end February we have won 10 of the last 11 games and we are now up to 3rd in the East. There are still 8 teams over .600 with Miami and Orlando the only teams above us and above .700. Our Detroit pick is still looking good as they are 19-39.
The Lakers have lost some ground this month and are now only 4 games ahead of Dallas and 4.5 games ahead of New Orleans. Phoenix is firmly planted to the bottom with a 8-50 record.

Third round of draft rankings (number in brackets previous rank) –
1 (1) – C Travis Randolph (Duke) Freshman
Still tearing it up. Hear this – he will be the number one pick this draft. A bad attitude is a little worrying.
2 (2) – PG Vlasi Kazapov (Russia) 17 years old
Increased his stats over the board as he becoming more comfortable being a facilitator.
3 (3) – PF Rashid Shiran (Israel) 19 years old
The battle of the foreign PFs heats up again with Shiran showing a deft touch around the basket.
4 (3) – SG Trent Bailey (LSU) Freshman
Still the best SG in the draft by a country mile. No one else comes close, with the next SG being Corey Hines out of USC at number 11.
5 (5) – PF Nikolos Bocharkov (Russia) 18 years old
Picked up after his little speed bump, looking very quick against slower PFs.
