That's why I was so worried at the Lottery because two teams jumped above their spot I really, really wanted King on my team. Bebutov looks great, in a few years and King is great NOW.

Dwight Howard continued his excellent play by winning the December Player of the Month award. He averaged 24.6 points, 16.6 rebounds, 4.3 blocks, 1.1 assists and 1.1 steals in the month with the Magic going 8-6 in December.

Kevin King from the Toronto Raptors won his second consecutive Rookie of the Month. In December he averaged 18.8 points, 4.8 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.5 steals with the surprising Raptors going 12-4.

There was one trade apart from our pick swap:

Orlando trades:
PF Brandon Bass
SF Mickael Pietrus

Los Angeles Lakers trade:
PF Lamar Odom

Why for Orlando:
Rashard Lewis wasn’t cutting it as the PF for the Magic so getting a legit starting PF in Odom is great for the 20-9 Magic. He will help Dwight Howard as the second leading rebounder for Orlando is Reggie Williams with 4.4, so Odom is a god-send.

Why for Los Angeles:
Rookie Scott Williams is playing well in limited minutes so getting bench depth for an out of place Odom was a good deal. Pietrus is a quality defender which takes pressure off Kobe Bryant.

Winner – Both
Orlando gets a legit starting PF while Los Angeles shores up their bench, so both teams come out on top.

We win our first game of the year over Portland 88-70. We have 3 players in double figure REBOUNDING with Sam Dalembert netting 12 points and 14 rebounds, Earl Barron scores 14 points and 14 rebounds in 18 minutes with Antawn Jamison 9 points and 12 rebounds. Greg Oden plays best for the Trailblazers with 16 points, 13 rebounds and 4 blocks.

Toronto Raptors 24-9

Atlanta are still in a free fall at 6-24 and we beat them handsomely 106-92 Rajon Rondo plays best with 16 points, 11 assists and 6 rebounds while Da’Sean Butler shows a glimpse of potential with 17 points after Kevin King gets into early foul trouble. Joe Johnson is the only light for the pathetic Hawks with 24 points.

Toronto Raptors 25-9

New York held Kevin King to 2/13 shooting and we shot 39% to their 52%, so it’s obvious that we lost 109-87. Rajon Rondo was the only resistance with 22 points, 13 assists and 7 rebounds. Danilo Gallinari hits 7 3 points on his way to 26 points and budding C Timofey Mozgov shows his potential with 13 points, 12 rebounds and 4 blocks off the bench.

Toronto Raptors 25-10

Charlotte has been better this year but we still beat them 94-87. Antawn Jamison beats up stellar rookie Jason Beck to 24 points and 6 rebounds. Shane Battier wakes up for 16 points and 7 steals. DJ Augustin top scores with 23 points off the bench.

Toronto Raptors 26-10

Memphis has been AWFUL this year and we stomp them 109-79. Antawn Jamison plays best with 21 points and 11 rebounds with back up from Kevin King (21 points) and Rajon Rondo (17 assists). Marc Gasol seemed to be the only Grizzly who showed up as he landed 18 points, 16 rebounds and 3 blocks.

Toronto Raptors 27-10

It’s lucky we swapped the Cleveland pick because they are 15-19 while Detroit is 10-25. We play the Cavs and pummel them 100-79. Earl Barron is fast becoming one of my favourite players as he pulled down 16 rebounds in 24 minutes. Rajon Rondo leads the way with 20 points and 13 assists. Yao Ming is still dragging his team with 13 points and 11 rebounds, but had 7 turnovers. Ray Allen is starting at SF and shot 3/14 for 10 points.

Toronto Raptors 28-10

We were leading the 76ers 61-46 at half time and I thought we could go home but no, Philadelphia goes on a rampage outscoring us 60-31 in the 2nd for a 106-92 win. I don’t know what happened; maybe they changed the rings at half time. Philly has 6 players in double figures while we had 6 more turnovers. Pretty easy equation.

Toronto Raptors 28-11

We get our revenge the next night in Toronto with a 103-91 win over the 76ers. All our starting five players are in double figures led by Rajon Rondo (17 points, 14 assists and 6 rebounds) and Sam Dalembert (16 points, 14 rebounds). Much better game than last night.

Toronto Raptors 29-11

Boston outscores us 39-15 in the 4th to give us an 85-82 loss. Jermaine O’Neal turns back the clock with 14 points, 17 rebounds and 4 blocks. Kevin King was our highlight with 24 points. Nothing much else to say as we choked as a team and I hope this will be a motivator for the next time we play them.

Toronto Raptors 29-12

It happens again against the Celtics as we were outscored 42-27 in the 4th quarter as we lose 112-103. Ex-Raptors Andrea Bargnani and Jose Calderon show us up with 23 and 20 points respectively. Rajon Rondo tries valiantly with 18 points, 9 assists and 6 rebounds with help from Sam Dalembert who had 16 points, 15 rebounds and 4 blocks. I hope this doesn’t become a trend.

Toronto Raptors 29-13

Going up against the poor Clippers was supposed to be a walk over, but for us. A picture says a thousand words, well read this:

http://img189.imageshack.us/f/torvslac.jpg/

The second quarter score is very impressive. Urgh.

Toronto Raptors 29-14

Another tough game against the 29-11 Magic and we drop our 4th straight 102-91. Dwight Howard isn’t the star, which would be Jameer Nelson with 20 points and 7 assists. No one really stood out, with Kevin King having a tough night shooting 3/18 for 9 points.

Toronto Raptors 29-15

What a tough stretch, this time away again to the 32-9 Heat and we get smashed 106-83. Lebron James overpowers Shane Battier for 31 points while we shot 37% from the field.

Toronto Raptors 29-16

I’m not panicking yet, but very close. This losing streak might be caused by a surprising source – Ed Davis. He has been injured for the last 2 weeks with a strained abdominal, causing him to be under stress. Coupled with Reggie Evans being banged up we have no bigs off the bench apart from Omar Samhan. I’m going to recall Dennis Edwards from the D-League and see how that goes.

We lose again, this time to the Mavericks 111-100. We try to match Dirk Nowitzki (26 points, 13 rebounds) and Jason Terry (31 points) with Kevin King (26 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists) and Antawn Jamison (25 points) but we can’t let teams shoot 51% and think we can win.

Toronto Raptors 29-17

With that we lose the lead in the Atlantic Division to Boston.

We finish the month with a long needed win over Sacramento 106-86. Kevin King finally shows up with 30 points and 12 rebounds. Rajon Rondo helps with 12 points, 11 assists and 7 rebounds. Beno Udrih of all people steps up with 26 points, but it’s not enough.

Toronto Raptors 30-17

With the end of January we are sitting 5th in the East, which is harsh. Very harsh. Let me show you:

1st – Miami Heat – 34-10 (.773)
2nd – Orlando Magic – 32-12 (.727)
3rd – Boston Celtics – 31-15 (.674)
4th – Chicago Bulls – 33-16 (.673)
5th – TORONTO RAPTORS – 30-17 (.638)
6th – Milwaukee Bucks – 28-16 (.636)
7th – New York Knicks – 28-17 (.622)
8th – New Jersey Nets – 26-18 (.591)
9th – Indiana Pacers – 25-21 (.543)

It’s safe to say that the East is BACK.

The West also has 9 teams over .500 but most of them are near that mark, except the Lakers who are 33-11 (.750) with the Spurs 4 games back.

Toronto Top Scorers – Kevin King (16.7), Rajon Rondo (15.4), Antawn Jamison (13.2), Shane Battier (12.8)
Toronto Top Rebounders – Sam Dalembert (10.4), Earl Barron (6.1), Antawn Jamison (6.0), Ed Davis (4.7)
Toronto Top Assisters – Rajon Rondo (10.5), TJ Ford (2.7), Kevin King (2.5)

League Top Scorers – Lebron James MIA (27.1), Kevin Durant OKC (26.8), Danny Granger IND (26.3), Joe Johnson ATL (25.5)
League Top Rebounders – Dwight Howard ORL (15.2), Andrew Bogut MIL (12.4), Chris Kaman LAC (11.7), Amar’e Stoudemire NYK (11.5)
League Top Assisters – Chris Paul NOH (11.9), Raymond Felton NYK (10.6), Rajon Rondo TOR (10.5), Deron Williams UTA (10.3)

Rookie Top Scorers – Kevin King TOR (16.7), Ben Mascoe MIN (12.5), Jason Beck CHA (11.2), Michael Sims IND (10.3)
Rookie Top Rebounders – Michael Nicholson WAS (8.0), Jason Beck CHA (7.5), James Blanchard SAC (6.5), Michael Sims IND (6.1)
Rookie Top Assisters – Boleslav Silajdic MEM (5.0), Michael Sims IND (2.9), Chris Norvell CLE (2.5), Kevin King TOR (2.5)

Second round of draft rankings (number in brackets is previous rank) –

1 (1) – C Travis Randolph (Duke) Freshman
Increased his point production because no one can get around him. Next in line to get nicknamed ‘Baby Shaq’.

2 (2) – PG Vlasi Kazapov (Russia) 17 years old
If I said the second best prospect at the moment averaged 8.9 points, 4.0 rebounds and 3.9 assists in Russia, you would probably slap me. But Kazapov is for some reason. He is damn skinny as well (6’1, 165lbs).

3 (4) – PF Rashid Shiran (Israel) 19 years old
Is still putting up monster numbers in Israel and has taken the #1 PF prospect label off the Russian. Fantastic NBA ready body at 19 years old.

3 (5) – SG Trent Bailey (LSU) Freshman
Looks great being the focus of LSU and is flourishing being the man. Huge body (6’6, 222lbs) that he uses to bully opponents around.

Lebron James won his second Player of the Month this season playing for the Miami Heat. For the month of January James averaged 27.1 points, 5.8 assists, 3.9 rebounds, 1.9 steals and 1.2 blocks to pilot the Eastern Conference leaders to a 13-1 record. He logged a triple double against Philadelphia with 17 points, 12 assists and 10 rebounds.

Kevin King from the Toronto Raptors again won the Rookie of the Month award for January. He averaged 17.0 points, 4.3 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.4 steals with the Raptors going 7-8 in the month.

No trades this month as the deadline is fast approaching. I’m not really itching to make a deal yet as we had a big month and we are still 13 games above .500.

Our first game for February is a massacre, with us losing to Milwaukee 96-67. Our top scorer was Shane Battier with 11 points. We shoot 32% from the field and I decide to put everyone on the trading block.

Toronto Raptors 30-18

We win at home 101-92 against the Nuggets with Sam Dalembert coming up big with 20 points and 8 rebounds. Kenyon Martin has his turn at C with 16 points and 16 rebounds but we have 6 players in double figures and run them over.

Toronto Raptors 31-18

Rajon Rondo tears New Jersey apart in our 104-94 win with 21 points, 17 assists and 8 rebounds. It astounds me that he has not yet had a triple double because he has been so close many times. Sam Dalembert helps out with 16 points, 11 rebounds and 5 blocks while keeping Brook Lopez to 16 points and 7 rebounds.

Toronto Raptors 32-18

The next day the 35-13 Heat squeak out an overtime win over the 6-43 Suns, 113-99. They outscore Phoenix 19-5 in the extra period.

ANOTHER tough game against the 35-13 Lakers and it’s a crazy 131-115 win. There is too many stats to go through so like the Clippers loss, here is a picture to tell the story:

http://img851.imageshack.us/f/torvslal.jpg/

Toronto Raptors 33-18

We sneak a 98-95 win over the upstart Knicks, with Sam Dalembert grabbing the most rebounds anyone has this season with 27, with 22 points. 13 of those rebounds were offensive, just a truly dominant display. Timofey Mozgov steps up when Amar’e Stoudemire goes down with a broken toe 4 minutes into the game with 16 points, 17 rebounds and 7 blocks while playing all 48 minutes.

Toronto Raptors 34-18

I would love to nab Mozgov. He is still very raw but he is starting now and growing into his enormous potential. I go round and round with the Knicks and finally get a deal done.

Toronto trades:
PG TJ Ford
C Dennis Edwards
2012 1st round pick (TOR)

New York trades:
C Timofey Mozgov

Why for Toronto:
Mozgov is still raw but GM Felix Elwood saw something that excited him. Their frontcourt depth is now one of the best in the league.

Why for New York:
It’s a bit unfortunate that they traded Mozgov now as Amar’e Stoudemire gone with a broken toe for over a month. This gives more playing time to enigmatic Anthony Randolph. The pick will be in the 20s.

Winner – New York
Toronto has no PG depth now and Dennis Edwards looks good. The pick will help and the only way things will change if Mozgov becomes dominant.

Whatever, I still like it. Mozgov is now the 6th man. I sign Jerome Randle as our new bench PG. Our depth at PG is now woefully thin, so I’m looking for a follow up trade.

Mozgov has a fairly good game with 4 points and 7 rebounds in our 104-91 win over San Antonio. Kevin King played great with 21 points and 12 rebounds with Rajon Rondo handing out 16 assists. Manu Ginobili top scores with 15 but on 20 shots.

Toronto Raptors 35-18

David West goes off for 36 points and 10 rebounds in their 109-90 win over us. Chris Paul and Rajon Rondo play to a stalemate and Timofey Mozgov starts with 7 points, 10 rebounds and 5 blocks. DeMar DeRozan is our backup PG and I need to find a better one.

Toronto Raptors 35-19

I find a PG, but one out of left field.

Toronto trades:
SF Da’Sean Butler
2012 2nd round pick (TOR)
2013 2nd round pick (TOR)
2013 2nd round pick (OKC)

Orlando trades:
PG Andrew Norwood

Why for Toronto:
After trading away TJ Ford the Raptors had a huge hole at PG so a follow up trade was needed. Norwood, who was picked 27th in the previous draft, is already a fantastic defender and above average passer but the thing about him is his work ethic. He is the definition of a gym rat, Kobe Bryant work ethic. GM Elwood thinks he has a diamond in the rough.

Why for Orlando:
They already have Jameer Nelson and Chris Duhon at PG so they decided to get a tenacious defender in Butler to go against the James’ and Pierce’s of the NBA. The picks will probably be low in the draft.

Winner – Toronto
Norwood looks like a great kid and they picked Butler off the free agency pile to fill up a roster spot. The 2nd round picks will be inconsequencial.

I had had my eye on Norwood ever since he was draft because he is such a good kid and he has a huge heart, just what we need here.

Our first game since the trade was a 116-107 win over Dallas, in Dallas. Kevin King goes mental for a massive 42 points, while Rajon Rondo dishes out an equally outrageous 20 assists. Andrew Norwood gets 14 minutes for 4 points and 3 assists. Dirk Nowitzki nabs 35 points on 18 shots, which isn’t too shabby.

Toronto Raptors 36-19

It’s All Star Weekend and we start with the dunk contest. Unknown Pape Sy (ATL) demolishes Gerald Henderson (CHA) with a score of 65-54. Other contestants were Jamerio Moon (CLE) and Victor Claver (POR).

It’s an Atlanta double with young gun Jordan Crawford winning the Long Distance Shootout, beating out Mike Miller (MIA) and Xavier Henry (MEM). Other contestants being Paul Pierce (BOS), Raja Bell (UTA), Rashard Lewis (ORL), Jason Richardson (LAL) and Stephen Curry (GSW).

The Sophomores pound on the Rookies 124-99 with John Wall (WAS) winning the MVP with 24 points, 10 assists and 8 rebounds.
Notable players were –
Kevin King (TOR) – 11 points
Jason Beck (CHA) – 18 points, 12 rebounds
Dennis Edwards (NYK) – 2 points (in his 3 games with the Knicks, all starts, he has averaged 7.3 points, 13.3 rebounds and 2.7 blocks per game. Whoops.)
Timofey Mosgov (TOR) – 2 points
Evan Turner (PHI) – 19 points.

The All Star game was also a laugher with the East winning 143-119. We actually have an All Star this time (you won’t guess who) with Rajon Rondo getting 11 minutes and accumulating 6 points and 7 assists. Derrick Rose (CHI) gets the MVP with 30 points, 10 assists and 7 rebounds.
Some strange selections were Brendan Haywood (DAL) starting and the East having 4 Cs in Dwight Howard (ORL), Yao Ming (CLE), Andrew Bogut (MIL) and Brook Lopez (NJN). Other than that the selections were pretty much spot on.

After a 6 day break we somehow win against Utah 88-84. Rajon Rondo was the standout with 19 points, 9 assists and 5 rebounds but to be honest no player on either team took the game by the horns, which is probably why it didn’t feel like much of a game.

Toronto Raptors 37-19

We squeeze out another close game, this tie 104-102 to the Clippers. Blake Griffin shows his class with 31 points and 13 rebounds but Rajon Rondo steps up with 24 points and 16 assists. Ed Davis goes toe to toe with Griffin after Antawn Jamison was plagued by foul trouble with 12 points and 7 rebounds to Davis.

Toronto Raptors 38-19

An absolute snorer of a game with us beating the Timberwolves 94-85. The highest scorer of the game was Timofey Mozgov who is starting with Sam Dalembert injured with 16 points, and adding 14 rebounds. Not my cup of tea.

Toronto Raptors 39-19

On the last day of February we play the worst of the worst, the 8-49 Phoenix Suns. And we win by a measly 2 points, 109-107. Kevin King top scores with 22 points and Steve Nash turns back the clock with 26 points and 8 assists. I’m just happy we won against them or I would never hear the end of it.

Toronto Raptors 40-19

So to end February we have won 10 of the last 11 games and we are now up to 3rd in the East. There are still 8 teams over .600 with Miami and Orlando the only teams above us and above .700. Our Detroit pick is still looking good as they are 19-39.

The Lakers have lost some ground this month and are now only 4 games ahead of Dallas and 4.5 games ahead of New Orleans. Phoenix is firmly planted to the bottom with a 8-50 record.

Toronto Top Scorers – Kevin King (17.0), Rajon Rondo (15.5), Antawn Jamison (13.2), Shane Battier (12.9)
Toronto Top Rebounders – Sam Dalembert (10.7), Timofey Mozgov (7.2), Antawn Jamison (5.9), Earl Barron (5.7)
Toronto Top Assisters – Rajon Rondo (10.9), Kevin King (2.5), Antawn Jamison (2.1)

League Top Scorers – Kevin Durant OKC (27.4), Danny Granger IND (26.2), Joe Johnson ATL (25.4), Monta Ellis GSW (25.2)
League Top Rebounders – Dwight Howard ORL (14.6), Andrew Bogut MIL (12.5), Brendan Haywood DAL (11.4), Amar’e Stoudemire NYK (11.2)
League Top Assisters – Chris Paul NOH (11.6), Rajon Rondo TOR (10.9), Raymond Felton NYK (10.6), Deron Williams UTA (10.2)

Rookie Top Scorers – Kevin King TOR (17.0), Ben Mascoe MIN (12.1), Jason Beck CHA (11.9), Michael Sims IND (10.0)
Rookie Top Rebounders – Dennis Edwards NYK (9.8), Michael Nicholson WAS (7.8), Jason Beck CHA (7.6), James Blanchard SAC (6.4)
Rookie Top Assisters – Michael Sims IND (2.8), Kevin King TOR (2.5), Chris Norvell CLE (2.3)

Third round of draft rankings (number in brackets previous rank) –

1 (1) – C Travis Randolph (Duke) Freshman
Still tearing it up. Hear this – he will be the number one pick this draft. A bad attitude is a little worrying.

2 (2) – PG Vlasi Kazapov (Russia) 17 years old
Increased his stats over the board as he becoming more comfortable being a facilitator.

3 (3) – PF Rashid Shiran (Israel) 19 years old
The battle of the foreign PFs heats up again with Shiran showing a deft touch around the basket.

4 (3) – SG Trent Bailey (LSU) Freshman
Still the best SG in the draft by a country mile. No one else comes close, with the next SG being Corey Hines out of USC at number 11.

5 (5) – PF Nikolos Bocharkov (Russia) 18 years old
Picked up after his little speed bump, looking very quick against slower PFs.

Dirk Nowitzki has won the Player of the Month title for February after averaging 28.8 points, 9.3 rebounds, 3.1 assists, 1.9 steals and 1.6 blocks while leading his Dallas Mavericks to an astounding 11-1 record for the month.

Kevin King has again won the Rookie of the Year award, his 4th straight. He averaged 18.3 points, 4.7 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.3 steals in February with his Raptors going 10-2 for the month.

Great to see King get the nod again, but I think it’s strange that a 6’8 SF with excellent defensive skills has not recorded a single block all season.

There was one other trade apart from our two –

Miami trades:
C Matt Simpson
C Shaquille O’Neal

Minnesota trades:
C Anthony Tolliver

Why for Miami:
The Shaq Experiment didn’t work as he was too slow and frankly, done. Anthony Tolliver is a decent C with 3 point range which will help spread the floor for the rest of the team.

Why for Minnesota:
They have a young C (Nikola Pekovic) who has talent but is still adjusting to the NBA. Having Shaq to mentor him will do wonders to him. Word is Tolliver didn’t like Pekovic stealing his minutes so he had to go.

Winner – Miami
Tolliver will do great things off the bench for the Heat as he will give plenty of room for James and Wade to work without worrying about defences collapsing on them.

Our first game of March is a loss to the pretty good Pacers, 117-104. They finally have Al Horford and Roy Hibbert starting together with Hibbert getting 25 points and 15 rebounds with Danny Granger stuffing the stat sheet with 30 points, 6 assists, 4 rebounds, 5 steals and 4 blocks. Rajon Rondo again flirts with a triple double with 14 points, 17 assists and 9 rebounds.

Toronto Raptors 40-20

This league is tough lately, as most likely than not you will be up against a team way above .500, this time we are up against Milwaukee (36-21) and we crush them 108-89. Shane Battier makes him customary monthly appearance with 25 points and 7 rebounds, helped out by Kevin King with 26 points. Andrew Bogut bullies Timofey Mozgov with 20 rebounds and 6 blocks.

Toronto Raptors 41-20

We just can get over the Celtics, this time going down in Boston 101-97. They roll out the line up of –

PG Jose Calderon (6’3)
SG Rasual Butler (6’7)
SF Kevin Garnett (6’11)
PF Andrea Bargnani (7’0)
C – Kendrick Perkins (6’10)

So yeah, large line up. Sam Dalembert is still injured but somehow pulls down 16 rebounds, with his partner Tim Mozgov going for 18 points and 12 rebounds. Kevin Garnett is the best Celtic on the night with 21 points.

Toronto Raptors 41-21

Finally! A poor team. And this is probably our best showing of the year. We play the Yao Ming-less Cavs and put up 145 points to their 98. We shoot 70% from the field with 8 players in double figures led by Rajon Rondo with 23 points and 17 assists. In fact we have more assists (37) than rebounds (27) in this game. Complete and utter dominance.

Toronto Raptors 42-21

Back to the hard games with a 113-101 loss to the East leading Heat. Lebron James and Dwyane Wade combine for 35 free throws while we have 35 fouls to their 22. God I had superstar calls. Wade scores 24 points on 5 shots; yep he had 20 free throws, hitting 16. I want to forget this travesty of a game.

Toronto Raptors 42-22

We beat the very good Orlando Magic 97-93 on the back of Rajon Rondo’s 24 point, 11 assist game. Kevin King showed his skill with 22 points. Dwight Howard just can’t dominate against our front line with ‘only’ 23 points and 9 rebounds.

Toronto Raptors 43-22

Great training run against the poor Rockets with a 120-106 where we shot 56%. Rajon Rondo again shows the way with 19 points, 13 assists and 7 rebounds and we had 7 players in double figures. Aaron Brooks tries hard for the losers with 23 points and 13 assists but didn’t get much help.

Toronto Raptors 44-22

We get a wakeup call from Chicago, going down 115-98. Derrick Rose has become one of the best PGs in the league, showing it here with 24 points and 9 assists, helped by Joakim Noah with 14 rebounds and 3 blocks. Kevin King shoots badly for 21 points, with Sam Dalembert aiding him with 17 points and 12 rebounds.

Toronto Raptors 44-23

We go up against ‘our’ pick, Detroit, and I want it to be as low as possible so we win 104-93 with Kevin King leading the way with 24 points. Tim and Sam started together with Mozgov beating up Greg Monroe at PF for 21 points and 4 blocks. Antawn Jamison rips 10 rebounds off the bench and Andrew Norwood steps up when Rajon Rondo has foul trouble with 7 assists. Rodney Stuckey plays the best with 23 points and 7 assists.

Toronto Raptors 45-23

It seems we play the Magic every other day, and this day we lose 94-84 at home. Dwight Howard finally breaks his shackles with 25 points, 19 rebounds and 7 blocks in a truely dominant display. Rondo had 20 points but we were beaten by a one man army.

Toronto Raptors 45-24

I have said it before but it’s a tough league but we are going toe to toe with the best, this time against 3rd in the West San Antonio, winning 102-81. Tim Mozgov is starting to come into his own with 27 points and 9 rebounds on 11/14 shooting, beating up the 6 inch shorter DeJuan Blair. I really like Andrew Norwood as he plays 20 minutes for 5 points and 7 assists.

Toronto Raptors 46-24

When a 38-29 (.567) team can’t make the playoffs like New Jersey is facing the East is crazy.

We beat up on Houston again 108-101. Rajon Rondo stars again with 24 points and 14 assists helped by the dynamic duo Sam and Tim (20 points, 12 rebounds for Sam and 18 points, 11 rebounds for Tim). Kevin Martin is the only highlight for the Rockets with 31 points.

Toronto Raptors 47-24

A win was a certainty against the worst team in the NBA, the 11-59 Phoenix Suns, and we put them away 120-94. Rajon Rondo is the star again with 24 points and 9 assists with help from DeMar DeRozan off the bench with 15 points. No one was worth noting on the Suns.

Toronto Raptors 48-24

Another loss to the Heat, this time in Miami to the tune of 117-92. Kevin King tries to put the team on his shoulders with 31 points but it wasn’t enough against Dwayne Wade’s 31 points and 10 assists coupled with Chris Bosh’s 26 points and12 rebounds. The championship goes through Miami this year.

Toronto Raptors 48-25

Our last game for March is a 105-88 demolishing of Washington. Star rookie Michael Nicholson is down in the D-League recovering from an abdominal injury which hurt the team. Rajon Rondo will one day log a triple double but not today, as he got 21 points, 8 rebounds and 8 assists aided by Kevin King’s 23 points. Gilbert Arenas top scored with 30 points.

Toronto Raptors 49-25

So we are one win away from a 50 win season after losing 60 games the year before. All in all I’m pretty happy.

There are already 3 teams in the East with 50 wins –
1st – Orlando Magic – 52-21 (.712)
2nd – Miami Heat – 51-21 (.708)
3rd – Chicago Bulls – 50-24 (.676)
Then us at 49-25 (.662).

There is 6 teams on track for a 50 wins in the East, with another 2 knocking on the door. Detroit won a few games last month which sucks, putting them up to 24-50 and 5th last in the league.

The West is a different story with the Lakers still leading at 47-25 (.653) with Dallas and San Antonio 2 and 3 games behind. Just think, if we were in the West we would be in first place.

Toronto Top Scorers – Kevin King (17.4), Rajon Rondo (15.9), Shane Battier (12.8), Antawn Jamison (12.8)
Toronto Top Rebounders – Sam Dalembert (10.4), Tim Mozgov (7.3), Antawn Jamison (5.7), Earl Barron (5.4)
Toronto Top Assisters – Rajon Rondo (10.7), Kevin King (2.6), Andrew Norwood (2.0)

League Top Scorers – Kevin Durant OKC (27.3), Danny Granger IND (26.1), Monta Ellis GSW (25.3), Lebron James MIA (25.2)
League Top Rebounders – Dwight Howard ORL (14.6), Andrew Bogut MIL (12.6), Brook Lopez NJN (11.4), Brendan Haywood DAL (11.4)
League Top Assisters – Chris Paul NOH (11.7), Rajon Rondo TOR (10.7), Raymond Felton NYK (10.3), Deron Williams UTA (10.3)

Rookie Top Scorers – Kevin King TOR (17.4), Ben Mascoe MIN (12.3), Jason Beck CHA (11.7), Michael Sims IND (9.9)
Rookie Top Rebounders – Jason Beck CHA (7.2), James Blanchard SAC (6.2), Michael Sims IND (5.8), Marcus Mance LAC (5.0)
Rookie Top Assisters – Varlam Bebutov NYK (2.8), Michael Sims IND (2.8), Kevin King TOR (2.6), Chris Norvell CLE (2.2)

Boleslav Silajdic and Michael Nicholson are in the D-League which is why their stats aren’t on the main screen.

Fourth and final round of draft rankings (number in brackets previous rank) –

1 (1) – C Travis Randolph (Duke) Freshman
Nothing else really to say, whoever gets the #1 will pick this man. Book it.

2 (3) – PF Rashid Shiran (Israel) 19 years old
His scoring and rebounding are the talking points but a lot of people miss his great passing ability.

3 (5) – PF Nikolos Bocharkov (Russia) 18 years old
Is starting to slot into that #2 PF in the draft, but is no silver medal. He can ball.

4 (4) – SG Trent Bailey (LSU) Freshman
Is putting up great numbers and showed how good he is in the tournament.

5 (2) – PG Vlasi Kazapov (Russia) 17 years old
Is finally scoring in double figures. Still needs to put on weight.

Onto the final stretch of 8 games, hopefully we get to 50 wins sooner than later.

Kevin Durant of the Oklahoma City Thunder won the final player of the month crown, averaging 27.1 points, 7.4 rebounds, 2.2 assists, 1.0 steals and 1.1 blocks per game in March while piloting the Thunder to a 6-9 record.

Another Kevin, Kevin King that is won another Rookie of the Month title and is an overwhelming favourite to win the Rookie of the Year award. This month he averaged 18.9 points, 3.8 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.1 steals in the month with his Raptors going 9-6.

If he doesn’t win ROY title I am going to be mighty angry.

Both award winners are in our next game as we host the Thunder with King getting the last laugh as we beat them 103-94. Rajon Rondo has 13 points, 14 assists and 8 rebounds but the biggest stat is Kevin King’s 12 minutes – he broke his foot and is out for 2 months. Great. Kevin Durant scored 25 and Russell Westbrook was held to only 5/20 shooting.

Toronto Raptors 50-25

Antawn Jamison is told that he will be stepping in at SF for King. It was a very sombre bus ride home, we couldn’t even celebrate getting to 50 wins.

We win for Kevin, beating Charlotte 116-82 behind Rajon Rondo’s 16 points and 18 assists with Antawn Jamison stepping up with 19 points and 8 rebounds. Tim Mozgov shoots 10/11 for 20 points while on the other side Gerald Wallace scored 35 points as only one of two Bobcats in double figures.

Toronto Raptors 51-25

Another smashing of a bad team, this time a 113-78 win over Washington who never lead. Rajon Rondo again has 18 assists with Antawn Jamison again showing his skills with 20 points. Gilbert Arenas top scores for the Wizards with 18 points but on 23 shots.

Toronto Raptors 52-25

I don’t understand what happened but we embarrassed the Celtics 116-69, holding them to 32% shooting. Antawn Jamison again plays well with 23 points and DeMar DeRozan scores 21 off the bench. It’s always good to see Andrea Bargnani play badly, shooting 2/8 for 4 points and 7 turnovers.

Toronto Raptors 53-25

We lose our first game after King with a 119-112 loss to Orlando. Dwight Howard again kills us with 31 points, 18 rebounds and 5 blocks, helped by Jameer Nelson’s 17 points. Tim Mozgov top scores for us with 25 points and Ed Davis plays well off the bench with 19 points and 9 rebounds in 18 minutes.

Toronto Raptors 53-26

We beat on the helpless Cavaliers 108-81. We have 3 players in double figures with DeMar DeRozan off the bench with 24 points and Antawn Jamison and Shane Battier have 21 a piece. Rajon Rondo gives them most of them with 16 assists. JJ Hickson was the standout for Cleveland with 17 points and 13 rebounds.

Toronto Raptors 54-26

New Jersey had 5 players in double figures as they beat us 98-85 in New Jersey. Rajon Rondo had 17 assists but we shot 37% from the field which doomed us.

Toronto Raptors 54-27

Our last game of the regular season was a 103-85 smackdown of the woeful Hawks. Rajon Rondo decided to do some shooting and scores 25 points to go along with 14 assists. We had 6 players in double figures as we shot 56%. Joe Johnson played well with 30 points.

Toronto Raptors 55-27

At the end of the regular season we finish in 4th place, and our first round opponent is... the Boston Celtics. Great. The East had 6 teams with 50 wins, unbelievable.

Eastern Conference:
1st – Miami Heat – 59-23 (.720)
2nd – Orlando Magic – 57-25 (.695)
3rd – Chicago Bulls – 56-26 (.683)
4th – TORONTO RAPTORS – 55-27 (.671)
5th – Boston Celtics – 53-29 (.646)
6th – Indiana Pacers – 50-32 (.610)
7th – New Jersey Nets – 48-34 (.585)
8th – Milwaukee Bucks – 47-35 (.573)

Sucks to be the Knicks, who at 47-35 (.573) would be in the playoffs any other year. Our draft pick from the Pistons will have the 5th best chance of the winning the lottery, who finished with a 27-55 (.329) record.

Western Conference:
1st – Los Angeles Lakers – 54-28 (.659)
2nd – Dallas Mavericks – 50-32 (.610)
3rd – San Antonio Spurs – 49-33 (.598)
4th – Denver Nuggets – 49-33 (.598)
5th – New Orleans Hornets – 46-36 (.561)
6th – Portland Trailblazers – 46-36 (.561)
7th – Utah Jazz – 45-37 (.549)
8th – Golden State Warriors – 42-40 (.512)

Phoenix was dead last with a 13-69 (.159) record.

Toronto Top Scorers – Kevin King (17.2), Rajon Rondo (15.7), Antawn Jamison (13.4), Shane Battier (13.2)
Toronto Top Rebounders – Sam Dalembert (10.4), Tim Mozgov (7.2), Antawn Jamison (5.7), Earl Barron (5.2)
Toronto Top Assisters – Rajon Rondo (11.2), Kevin King (2.5), Andrew Norwood (2.1)

League Top Scorers – Kevin Durant OKC (26.6), Danny Granger IND (26.5), Monta Ellis GSW (25.5), Lebron James MIA (25.5)
League Top Rebounders – Dwight Howard ORL (14.5), Andrew Bogut MIL (12.5), Brook Lopez NJN (11.4), Joakim Noah CHI (11.2)
League Top Assisters – Chris Paul NOH (11.9), Rajon Rondo TOR (11.2), Deron Williams UTA (10.3), Raymond Felton NYK (10.1)

Rookie Top Scorers – Kevin King TOR (17.2), Ben Mascoe MIN (12.6), Jason Beck CHA (11.6), Michael Sims IND (9.7)
Rookie Top Rebounders – Jason Beck CHA (7.0), James Blanchard SAC (6.0), Michael Sims IND (5.9), Gerard DeGray ATL (5.2)
Rookie Top Assisters – Boleslav Silajdic MEM (5.3), Michael Sims IND (2.9), Varlam Bebutov NYK (2.9), Kevin King TOR (2.5)

Next up – Play-offs!

Thanks jani, it has been fun doing it. I try and submit where I'm up to straight away so I don't get too ahead of myself, keeps up the suspense on this end.

2012 NBA Playoffs

Eastern Conference:
#1 Miami vs. #8 Milwaukee
#2 Orlando vs. #7 New Jersey
#3 Chicago vs. #6 Indiana
#4 Toronto vs. #5 Boston

Western Conference:
#1 Los Angeles Lakers vs. #8 Golden State
#2 Dallas vs. #7 Utah
#3 Denver vs. #6 Portland
#4 San Antonio vs. #5 New Orleans

So we go into the playoffs with the 4th seed against our now rivals the Boston Celtics after our blockbuster trade last season. It’s my first playoff series and I would do almost anything to win it. So onto the match-ups –

Eastern Conference 1st round Boston vs. Toronto

Point Guard
Jose Calderon vs. Rajon Rondo
12.2 points, 2.6 rebounds, 5.9 assists vs. 15.7 points, 4.5 rebounds, 11.2 assists

These two were traded for each other but Rondo is on another level to Calderon. The Celtic PG is a sieve on defense so look for Rondo to have a big series.

Winner - Toronto

Shooting Guard
Rasual Butler vs. Shane Battier
9.6 points, 2.2 rebounds, 1.6 assists vs. 13.2 points, 3.3 rebounds, 1.7 assists

It’s SG by committee with Butler splitting starting time with Avery Bradley. Battier is a lock down defender and can take over games with his shooting so Butler needs to have a big series.

Winner - Toronto

Small Forward
Kevin Garnett vs. Ed Davis
14.3 points, 5.9 rebounds, 2.9 assists vs. 6.4 points, 3.8 rebounds, 0.8 assists

Kevin King is the usual Toronto SF but he has a broken leg. Antawn Jamison was taking over duties until Tim Mozgov hurt his hip (back to full health in 2 days) so it’s second year Ed Davis taking duties. Garnett is 34 years old but is still a feisty baller that can change the momentum of the game.

Winner - Boston

Power Forward
Andrea Bargnani vs. Antawn Jamison
16.6 points, 6.8 rebounds, 2.4 assists vs. 13.4 points, 5.7 rebounds, 1.9 assists

Bargnani was the poster child of the Raptors until GM Felix Elwood grew tired of him and traded him for Rondo. The Italian has the edge now, but will probably lose it when phenom Tim Mozgov gets healthy.

Winner - Boston

Centre
Jermaine O’Neal vs. Sam Dalembert
11.3 points, 9.9 rebounds, 1.7 assists vs. 10.0 points, 10.4 rebounds,1.5 assists

Sam Dalembert has been a revelation to the Raptors, when last year they couldn’t buy a rebound. He was one half of the Sam and Tim (Mozgov) show that bullied opposition frontlines. O’Neal is past him prime but is still a serviceable bigman.

Winner - Toronto

Bench
Kendrick Perkins, Paul Pierce, Nate Robinson vs. Tim Mozgov, DeMar DeRozan, Earl Barron

Paul Pierce is only playing 15 minutes a game but is still a serious player, and Perkins is a big body that stomps other teams. Mozgov will go back into the starting line up when healthy and Barron is a great C who would probably start for other teams.

Winner – Toronto

Prediction – Toronto in 7

If we win I don’t care how many games it takes.

Jermaine O’Neal must have heard that he past his prime by trampled all over us with 22 points and 18 rebounds. Andrea Bargnani helps out with 22 points, but on 23 shots. Shane Battier had 20 points while Rajon Rondo had 18 assists but fouled out.

Boston leads 1-0

We need this win at home and we beat the handsomely 101-84. We had 6 players in double figures led by Antawn Jamison’s 19 points and 10 rebounds. Tim Mozgov shoots 7/8 for 14 points. Jermaine O’Neal grabs 17 rebounds and blocks 5 shots while waving at half time to the reporter who wrote that series preview. Andrea Bargnani again top scores with 24 points but shoots poorly again.

Series tied 1-1

The good news going to Boston is that Tim Mozgov is fully healthy and hopefully the Sam and Tim show is reissued.

Rajon Rondo goes back to the marquee floor and wipes the Celtics on it by scoring 21 points and dishing 18 assists. DeMar DeRozan scores 18 points in 21 minutes as we kept them to 38% shooting. Andrea Bargnani shoots better tonight for 27 points but didn’t get any help.

Toronto leads 2-1

Sam Dalembert was getting jealous of the praise going towards O'Neal as we pull to one game from moving on with 24 points and 17 rebounds in a win in Boston 104-97. Rajon Rondo handed out 15 assists while Rasual Butler led the Celtics with 28 points. I’m so excited that we go back to Toronto with a 3-1 lead and a chance to put away those pesky Irish for a year.

Toronto leads 3-1

There was one sweep with #2 Dallas bringing out the brooms against #7 Utah.

We shoot better than the Celtics from the field, had 5 players in double figures led by Rajon Rondo’s 14 points and 13 assists but fouls out again giving Jose Calderon the chance to score 20 points and give the Celtics a 98-93 win. We are going back to Boston for a game 6.

Toronto leads 3-2

#2 Orlando beat #7 New Jersey 4-1, as did #4 San Antonio over #5 New Orleans.

Thank god for that. We shoot 52% from the field in a 111-100 win to finally get over the Celtic speed hump. Sam Dalembert goes 8/9 for 20 points and 18 rebounds while Rajon Rondo had 17 points and 17 assists with Ed Davis grabbing 10 rebounds in 23 minutes. Andrea Bargnani doesn’t go quietly with 20 points and 10 rebounds and Kevin Garnett perks up with 18 points.

Toronto wins series 4-2

Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhh! I am so happy. When I got this team we were on the way to loser town and here we are in my second season winning a playoff series against the Celtics WITHOUT our #1 overall pick with everyone picking up the slack.

#1 Miami beats #8 Milwaukee in 6 like us. So there is 3 series going the distance.

#3 Chicago win comfortably over #6 Indiana to clinch their series, as does the #1 Lakers. The only upset of the first round is #6 Portland overpowering last year’s Western Conference Champions #3 Denver with a 99-84 win in Denver.

1st round stats –
Points - Sam Dalembert (17.3), Shane Battier (15.8), Tim Mozgov (15.5), Rajon Rondo (15.0), DeMar DeRozan (12.4), Ed Davis (11.3), Antawn Jamison (10.3)

That’s right; we had SEVEN players in double digit scoring for the series.

Rebounds - Sam Dalembert (13.5), Antawn Jamison (7.0), Tim Mozgov (6.5), Ed Davis (5.5)
Assists - Rajon Rondo (14.7), Andrew Norwood (2.7), Antawn Jamison (2.3), Sam Dalembert (2.3)

League Points – Monta Ellis GSW (29.4), Lebron James MIA (27.0), Jason Terry DAL (25.5)
League Rebounds – Dwight Howard ORL (13.8), Sam Dalembert TOR (13.5), Andrew Bogut MIL (13.2)
League Assists – Rajon Rondo TOR (14.7), Deron Williams UTA (13.0), Derrick Rose CHI (12.1)

Up next for us – the juggernaut #1 Miami Heat.

I'm really liking this dynasty. Even if I'm a bit jealous that Kevin King seems to be more productive than the 4.5/5.0 PF I was able to draft in my main game.
