2013 NBA Playoffs

Eastern Conference:
#1 Toronto vs. #2 Orlando

Western Conference:
#2 Dallas vs. #5 Portland

We won the series again 2-1 but after last playoff series I’m not putting any stock into that.

2013 Eastern Conference Finals Orlando vs. Toronto

Point Guard
Reggie Williams vs. Rajon Rondo
19.3 points, 4.4 rebounds, 6.9 assists vs. 14.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, 12.6 assists

Reggie Williams is 6’6 and definitely not a PG but they need someone to slot there and they think that they can overcome this problem with flat out scoring. Rondo had a small dip in production but still has a 9.7 a/t ratio.

Winner - Toronto

Shooting Guard
Jamal Crawford vs. Shane Battier
18.0 points, 3.4 rebounds, 3.6 assists vs. 9.0 points, 2.6 rebounds, 1.4 assists

Battier doesn’t score very much, that’s DeMar DeRozan’s job, but Battier is in the starting line up because of his defense. Look for Crawford to have a down series.

Winner - Draw

Small Forward
Stephen Jackson vs. Kevin King
18.4 points, 4.5 rebounds, 2.3 assists vs. 24.4 points, 4.8 rebounds, 5.0 assists

Even though Stephen Jackson is an average defender and Kevin King is coming off a down series I’m putting my money on King to have a big series. Jackson is one of four Magic players to average 18 points or more in this year’s playoffs.

Winner - Toronto

Power Forward
Rashard Lewis vs. Antawn Jamison
11.1 points, 4.9 rebounds, 1.6 assists vs. 11.6 points, 6.1 rebounds, 1.1 assists

Lewis is the odd one out in the Magic starting line-up but he is out there to stretch the floor for Dwight Howard and hit 3s. Pretty much what Jamison does for Kevin King, so this is a bit of a wash.

Winner - Draw

Centre
Dwight Howard vs. Tim Mozgov
18.4 points, 14.2 rebounds, 1.1 assists vs. 16.4 points, 8.8 rebounds, 1.1 assists

No one has been able to stop Dwight Howard and Tim Mozgov has had to go against 2 very good centres in the past two series. If Toronto is to win this, they need to slow down Howard.

Winner - Orlando

Bench
Jameer Nelson, Vince Carter, Daniel Orton vs. Sam Dalembert, Ed Davis, DeMar DeRozan
Both sides have very good depth, and Nelson can give a calming influence to the team as he is an actual PG.

Winner – Draw

Prediction – Orlando in 6

I’m not sure about 6 games, but I’m worried that they are right about Orlando winning.

A barn-burner of a first game as we win 122-113 in Toronto. Kevin King has a huge game with 30 points, 10 rebounds and 8 assists and Rajon Rondo shows Reggie Williams how to be a point guard with 15 points, 19 assists and 8 rebounds. Williams didn’t embarrass himself as he had 25 points but 6 turnovers. The biggest stat line was Dwight Howard’s: 23 points, 13 rebounds and 10 blocks. A rare triple double with blocks. Luckily we held on to the win.

Toronto leads 1-0

Dallas wins their first game 101-83 to take a 1-0 lead over Portland.

We go 2-0 up as we win easily 105-90 behind Kevin King who had 33 points. Tim Mozgov shuts down Dwight Howard (or as much as you can shut Howard down) with 19 points, 17 rebounds and 5 blocks helped by Rajon Rondo’s 17 assists. Dwight Howard shot 3/10 from the field for only 9 points, but he did have 17 rebounds and 8 blocks. Rashard Lewis had 25 points for the losers.

Toronto leads 2-0

Dallas again wins, this time by only one point, 96-95 to take a 2-0 lead.

Dwight Howard has 19 points, 16 rebounds and only 3 blocks but it isn’t enough as we go to one game of the NBA Finals with a 107-101 win in Orlando. Three of our bench players had 10 points or more, and Sam Dalembert had 12 rebounds. Shane Battier does a Howard impersonation with 4 blocks.

Toronto leads 3-0

Portland finally gets one back with a 117-102 win behind LaMarcus Aldridge’s 35 points to have the series at 2-1.

Having the ability to sweep the Magic to get into the NBA Finals is very tense, and it’s harder when Dwight Howard has 16 points, 14 rebounds and 7 blocks. However, Orlando shoots 32% from the field as we embarrass them 111-75 as our largest lead was 37. Kevin King goes off for 35 points and Sam Dalembert fills in for foul prone Tim Mozgov with 10 points and 14 rebounds. The Raptors are playing for the NBA Championship!!

Toronto wins series 4-0

The Western Finals is locked at 2-2 as Portland wins 99-90.

Another win to Portland and puts them on track for back to back NBA Finals appearances. They win in Dallas 102-91.

But Dallas has other ideas as they win in Portland 103-93 behind Dirk Nowitzki’s 33 points and 11 rebounds.

The game 7 goes into overtime, Chris Kaman has 19 rebounds, Brandon Roy has 25 points and 11 rebounds but Dirk Nowitzki saves the day for the Mavericks with 30 points as Dallas wins 108-102 to play us for the ultimate glory.

2013 NBA Finals

#1 Toronto vs. #2 Dallas

We split the regular season series 1-1 so this could be anyone’s game.

Point Guard
Jason Kidd vs. Rajon Rondo
13.6 points, 2.5 rebounds, 6.6 assists vs. 13.3 points, 5.2 rebounds, 12.9 assists

Kidd is 39 years old and is one of the best PGs to ever play the game, but he has lost a step and Rajon Rondo is lightning quick. Look for Rondo to have a good series.

Winner - Toronto

Shooting Guard
Jason Terry vs. Shane Battier
18.7 points, 2.6 rebounds, 3.1 assists vs. 10.2 points, 2.8 rebounds, 1.2 assists

This is a key matchup because Terry can pour in points but Battier can stop good scorers. Battier is also much bigger than Terry so it might be like the Indiana series where Eric Gordon couldn’t do as much as he wanted.

Winner - Draw

Small Forward
Caron Butler vs. Kevin King
13.0 points, 5.7 rebounds, 3.2 assists vs. 26.1 points, 4.9 rebounds, 5.4 assists

King is a fantastic player already at age 21, but Caron Butler is fairly tall for a SF and can get into his head. If Toronto wants to win this, King is going to have to score a lot of points.

Winner - Toronto

Power Forward
Dirk Nowitzki vs. Antawn Jamison
26.5 points, 8.0 rebounds, 2.2 assists vs. 11.6 points, 6.1 rebounds, 1.6 assists

And if Dallas wants to win this, Nowitzki is going to have to score a lot of points. The only difference, Jamison is nowhere near the kind of defender Butler is. Nowitzki to have a huge series.

Winner - Dallas

Centre
Brendan Haywood vs. Tim Mozgov
10.4 points, 10.9 rebounds, 0.9 assists vs. 14.6 points, 9.1 rebounds, 1.1 assists

This is the X-Factor matchup that could decide this series, more than the King/Butler or the Nowitzki/Jamison ones. Haywood has been fantastic and was rewarded with an all star appearance while Mozgov held Dwight Howard to a sub-par performance. Whoever wins this could well win the championship.

Winner - Draw

Bench
Tayshaun Prince, Ben Gordon, Kirk Hinrich vs. Sam Dalembert, Ed Davis, DeMar DeRozan

Rookie Ben Gordon has been great off the bench, averaging 7.2 rebounds in this playoff series, while Prince and Hinrich are both very good defenders. While Toronto’s depth has been talked about all year, they will have a challenge in the Mavericks’ second unit.

Winner – Draw

Prediction – Toronto in 7

I agree, I just don’t know how to pick this series but I hope we come out on top.

The furthest the Toronto Raptors have been is the Eastern Conference Semi-Finals in 2000-01 so it’s been a long time for these fans. So the stadium was packed, and there was a giant television set up outside the stadium because of all the people that turned up. I’m sure there are burglars out there stealing everything in Toronto because everyone else is here but that didn’t matter; all that mattered was this game. We tried and tried but Dirk Nowitzki showed how good he is with 40 points, helped by Brendan Haywood’s 15 points, 11 rebounds and 9 blocks. Shades of Dwight Howard. Ben Gordon also had 13 rebounds in 18 minutes. Kevin King had 29 points and Tim Mozgov netted 22 points, 15 rebounds and 3 blocks but we shot a paltry 39%.

Dallas leads 1-0

Sam Dalembert talked to the team for 20 minutes before this game saying that we have to play better, not for them but for a whole country. And it worked as we won 116-107 with Kevin King stepping up for 30 points and Rajon Rondo had 15 assists as we had 6 players in double figures. Diek Nowitzki shouldered the load for Dallas again with 33 points, including 17 free throws. So we are off to Dallas needed at least one game in Texas.

Series tied 1-1

Dallas has never won a championship either, so their crowd was electric, and with good reason as they beat us 97-87 with Dirk again being the star with 28 points and 10 rebounds. Tim Mozgov tries his hardest as he grabbed 20 rebounds but Kevin King was held to 5/17 shooting for 12 points. Next one then.

Dallas leads 2-1

Another win for Dallas has us at the final gate as they beat us 108-98 as Brendan Haywood shows up Dirk with 27 points and 8 rebounds as they have 6 players in double figures. Kevin King again shoots poorly (9/24) for 24 points and Tim Mozgov has 19 points, 13 rebounds and 5 blocks but we need more production out of our guards.

Dallas leads 3-1

We need this win in Dallas or the season is over. We need this win to go back to Toronto where I know the crowd can will us to a win. We looked down and out until a fourth quarter surge of 31-18 rallied us to a 101-95 win to go back with the series at 3-2 with two more games in Toronto. Kevin King broke out of his funk with 28 points and 10 rebounds while Tim Mozgov beat Brendan Haywood with 28 points, 13 rebounds and 6 blocks. For some reason Dirk Nowitzki only played 19 minutes but was not troubled with fouls. Maybe he was sick? Doesn’t matter, we are going back to Toronto with a damn good chance of winning this thing.

Dallas leads 3-2

The atmosphere is different than the first game; it’s more anxious and nervous than downright exciting. No-one wants the season to finish and the crowd pulled for their team with all their might. But it wasn’t enough as the Dallas Mavericks are the 2013 NBA Champions with a 115-98 win. Astonishingly, we shoot 50% from the field to their 42% but they have 17 more shot attempts and 11 more free throw attempts. Jason Kidd finally wakes up, going 6/6 (with 4/4 threes) for 20 points, helped by Brendan Haywood’s 20 points and 14 rebounds. We have 6 players in double figures as the crowd is downtrodden.

Dallas wins series 4-2

After the game, Rajon came up to me and told me to get the best player I can find to complete this team. He doesn’t care that he might need to take a pay cut when his contract is up, he loves it here and wants to win it all with this team. I shake his hand and tell him to get comfortable playing in June. Finally a smile on his face.

Toronto Playoff Leading Scorers – Kevin King (25.3), Tim Mozgov (16.0), Rajon Rondo (12.7), Antawn Jamison (11.4), DeMar DeRozan (10.8), Shane Battier (10.8)
Toronto Playoff Leading Rebounders – Tim Mozgov (10.6), Sam Dalembert (6.0), Antawn Jamison (5.5), Kevin King (5.3)
Toronto Playoff Leading Assisters – Rajon Rondo (12.7), Kevin King (4.7), Andrew Norwood (2.5)

Lottery time, but as we don’t have interest in this I’m not that excited.

14 – San Antonio (0)
13 – Boston (0)
12 – Washington (0)
11 – Houston (0)
10 – Sacramento (0)
9 – Cleveland (0)
8 – Philadelphia (0)
7 – Atlanta (0)
6 – Detroit (0)
5 – Minnesota (0)
4 – Memphis (-1)

I didn’t think there would be any movement.

3 – Phoenix (-2)
2 – Los Angeles Clippers (+2)
1 – Charlotte (+1)

Awards time, I wonder if we can have two All-NBA players.

Most Valuable Player:
Dwight Howard, Orlando Magic – 19.7 points, 1.5 assists, 13.2 rebounds, 0.9 steals, 3.3 blocks

Hopefully playing in Canada next season.

Defensive Player of the Year:
Dwight Howard, Orlando Magic

No one was even close.

Sixth Man of the Year:
Brook Lopez, New Jersey Nets – 11.8 points, 1.4 assists, 7.5 rebounds, 0.7 steals, 1.5 blocks

I don’t think there was much competition with Horford coming in and taking his position.

Rookie of the Year:
Rashid Shiran, Washington Wizards – 13.3 points, 1.9 assists, 8.4 rebounds, 0.7 steals, 1.0 blocks

Shiran looked very good after everyone’s attention was diverted from Travis Randolph, who missed too many games.

Coach of the Year:
Phil Jackson, Los Angeles Lakers – 57-25 (.695)

Boo! Rudy T should have won this, without a doubt.

All NBA First Team:
Chris Paul, New Orleans Hornets
Dwayne Wade, Miami Heat
Kevin King, Toronto Raptors
Blake Griffin, Los Angeles Clippers
Dwight Howard, Orlando Magic

King gets the nods because both Lebron James and Kevin Durant missed too many games to qualify. Big news for Canada though.

All NBA Second Team:
Deron Williams, Utah Jazz
Kobe Bryant, Los Angeles Lakers
Danny Granger, Indiana Pacers
Dirk Nowitzki, Dallas Mavericks
Andrew Bogut, Milwaukee Bucks

All NBA Third Team:
Raymond Felton, New York Knicks
Monta Ellis, Golden State Warriors
Carmelo Anthony, Cleveland Cavaliers
Chris Bosh, Miami Heat
Amar’e Stoudemire, New York Knicks

Another snub, I’m sure Rondo was going to be here he played much better than Felton on a better team. I’m getting the feeling the NBA is out to get us.

All Defense First Team:
Chris Paul, New Orleans Hornets
Dwayne Wade, Miami Heat
Wesley Johnson, Philadelphia 76ers
Josh Smith, Atlanta Hawks
Dwight Howard, Orlando Magic

All Defense Second Team:
Rajon Rondo, Toronto Raptors
Monta Ellis, Golden State Warriors
Andre Iguodala, Utah Jazz
Pau Gasol, Los Angeles Lakers
Andrew Bogut, Milwaukee Bucks

Not bad, at least Rondo is picked for something.

All Rookie First Team:
Richard Ward, Boston Celtics
Andre McQuay, Denver Nuggets
Cherokee Oquin, Houston Rockets
Rashid Shiran, Washington Wizards
Brian Johnson, Atlanta Hawks

All Rookie Second Team:
Quincy Stidham, Utah Jazz
Corey Hines, Philadelphia 76ers
Rodney Benoit, Sacramento Kings
Michael Webb, Charlotte Bobcats
Ben Gordon, Dallas Mavericks

This year wasn’t a good rookie crop, especially at PG. There were some good bigs in this group and a lot that were picked low.

A couple of days later I get a knock on the door and as I open it I’m knocked to the floor. It’s Mr Petway giving me the biggest bear hug I have ever had.
“I thought we were going to be a good team after the 2013 off season, you took us to the NBA Finals in 2 years!” He hugged me again.
“Yes but we lost. I’m not giving up until we bring the trophy up north.” I said.
“Sure sure. But we made so much money! Everyone wanted to see the Raptors play, and buy merchandise! You are a genius! So what about next season?”
“We are obviously championship material again,” He nods in agreement, “And we should be around the cap, maybe $5 million over at the most.”
“That’s seems doable. Keep up the good work!” And with a flash, he’s gone out the door and back to his car.

We have vacancies in the 1st and 2nd assistant coach positions, and as I don’t want to promote Alvin Williams just yet I sign Kim Hughes to 1st assistant and Jim Todd to the 2nd. Both are fairly similar to Rudy T and will help immensely.

Here is the Mock Draft:

1 – Charlotte – SG Avgustin Leonov
2 – Los Angeles Clippers – C Justin Cabrera
3 – Phoenix – PG Povilas Tailos
4 – Memphis – PF Claudio Carrera
5 – Minnesota – C Jordan Cole
6 – Detroit – PG Marlon Zinn
7 – Atlanta – SF Tim Murphy
8 – Philadelphia – PF Boroda Beketov
9 – Cleveland – PG Sam Dye
10 – Sacramento – PG Tony Rein
11 – Houston – C Jared Clayton
12 – Washington – SF Joe Taylor
13 – Boston – PG Clark Kimm
14 – San Antonio – PF Andrew Reed

If you thought Travis Randolph’s attitude was bad, wait until you see spoiled brat Justin Cabrera. He will be a good player but no-one will want to play with him.

2013 NBA Draft

1 – Charlotte – PG Povilas Tailos
Isn’t the best shooter but averaged a triple double in Latvia. He has pretty good size compared to other PGs drafted in previous years.

2 – Los Angeles Clippers – C Justin Cabrera
He is a great rebounder and shot blocker, but cannot dribble the ball. Let’s hope the Clippers have a good ball handler to feed him the ball.

3 – Phoenix – PG Marlon Zinn
They get Steve Nash’s replacement. He is skinny but can do everything, and I would say he was the best passer in the college game last season.

4 – Memphis – PF Claudio Carrera
I have heard that the Grizzlies were going to take a PF no matter what. Carrera is going to be a great, but stiff, big man for years to come.

5 – Minnesota – PF Marcus Mickens
What? Sure he was a rebounding beast but they just signed Kevin Love to that enormous contract. Terrible pick here.

6 – Detroit – SF Joe Taylor
A bit of a head scratcher. Sure Taylor is a great player and has a great attitude, but they desperately need a PG and they drafted Brian Perkins two seasons ago so that seems like a wasted pick.

7 – Atlanta – SF Ted Ballinger
Very skinny for the SF position and I think that they wanted Joe Taylor to drop to here so they could pick him up. Ballinger could have been available 10-15 picks below here.

8 – Philadelphia – PF Boroda Beketov
Great pick here, I was sure he would go earlier. Beketov will be a great fit with the 76ers.

Sacramento offers me Zach Randolph for Rajon Rondo which I promptly refuse. I have made up my mind that I’m going after Dwight Howard, then Blake Griffin, and only then if I strike out on those two I will try for Chris Paul. Rajon Rondo means that much to me. And plus, Zach Randolph has an extra year on his contract. Too big for my liking.

9 – Cleveland – PG Clark Kimm
Great pick here, as he is a fantastic passer. He is also a pretty decent scorer and goes to a team that desperately needs a PG for the future.

10 –Sacramento – SF Tim Murphy
Very large SF who wants to win. I’m not sure he will be used correctly in Sacramento but it is a great pick up nonetheless.

11 – Houston – C Jordan Cole
Massive guy who can pass the ball well. Great defender and rebounder who will do well to anchor the Rocket defense.

12 – Washington – SF Dontonio Seymour
Forward out of Liberty is a big stretch. He is 6’10 but I’m not sure this was the right spot to draft him.

13 – Boston – PG Tony Rein
Big PG who can handle the rock but even though Sam Dye is a terrible teammate, he is the better player and would have been a good pick here. Rein, not so much.

14 – San Antonio – SF Adam Lofton
Very foul prone but is clutch in the final minutes. Is a great 3 points shooter but both Alan Green and Avgusitn Leonov are still on the board.

15 – Oklahoma City – SG Alan Green
He finally falls and is a huge steal for the Thunder. Will be a backup to James Harden but look for him to steal that starting position soon enough.

16 – Cleveland (from Chicago) – PG Sam Dye
Another player that has fallen. He is a tremendous defender and has the body to bully other PGs around. Two steals in a row for the draft.
This pick was traded in a blockbuster deal that will be explained after the draft.

17 – New Orleans – SG Travis Howard
Is only 6’3 which is not going to help with Chris Paul in the backcourt. But as a small SG he has a knack for grabbing rebounds. Not a very good pick at this stage.

18 – Denver – SF Zack Arthurs
Very, very athletic but doesn’t get good lift on his jumpshot. I haven’t heard much about him but the media is saying it’s a good pick for this position.

19 – Milwaukee – PF Andrew Reed
Seriously? Reed drops to #19? Milwaukee has just been handed a huge gift and he could possibly start from day one. That’s how good he is.

20 – Indiana – PF Marlon Sanden
Not a very good defender but crashes the glass like it’s going out of fashion. Good pick up the Pacers are already stacked in their frontcourt so I thought they would have gone with a guard.

21 – Detroit – PG Adam Holley
So they finally have a PG on the team. Too bad it’s a 5’11 guard that is terribly inconsistent. They should have taken a PG earlier and now they are reaching.

22 – Portland – PG LaVell Deeter
The man with a funny name is an excellent PG and it’s strange that Detroit didn’t pick him last pick. Portland has a steal here.

And all of you watching at home, the mock draft #1 Leonov is still on the board.

23 – Philadelphia – SG Avgustin Leonov
I am baffled as to why he dropped so far. Very good at most things and is a born leader. In a draft with a few steals, this is THE steal of the draft.

24 – Minnesota – SG Connor Adams
The Timberwolves were hoping and hoping that Leonov would drop here so they go for the next best SG, who is 6’4 and terrible. Wasted pick.

25 – Miami – C Jared Clayton
Now the Heat has a decent C and is much more dangerous. Not sure why he slipped by Miami aren’t going to complain.

26 – New York – SF Hasheem Walker
There are a couple of SFs that I would have picked before Walker but is still a quality pick.

27 – Dallas – C Thomas Freeman
I’m not sure about this pick. Sure he is athletic and all that but he doesn’t quite have it between the ears to be a good NBA player. He has a lot of great players to learn from which will help him.

28 – Orlando – PF Tim Leep
Orlando took the Leep and it seems to have paid off. Decent player that will help the Magic.

29 – Los Angeles Lakers – PG Devin Davenport
Is a fantastic scorer but the Lakers don’t need that yet and isn’t the best passer. Average pick, not good and not bad.

I want a backup for Kevin King and there is two players I have my eyes on at that position, but both can be quite lax on defense. I go with the one with the better work ethic but I’m not quite sure it’s the right pick but this late you need to think outside the box.

30 – Toronto – SF George-Marie Gauthier
The pundits like it so that makes me feel a bit better.

We don’t have a second round pick because I traded it to Orlando in the Andrew Norwood trade so I glaze over the picks and go to the trades.

Golden State trades:
SF Quinn Trent

Los Angeles Clippers trades:
SF Marcus Mance

Why for Golden State:
Marcus Mance has the ability to be quite a good player; he just needs to put his mind to it. He will never be a good defender but that has never stopped the Warriors before.

Why for Los Angeles Clippers:
Quin Trent is a very good rebounder for his position but isn’t a very good defender, but has the ability to be an average one. He is also very durable which is what the Clippers need.

Winner – Clippers
Although Mance could be good, Trent is better now. And will probably be better later as well.

Chicago trades:
SF Luol Deng, 2013 1st round pick (CHI)

Cleveland trades:
C Yao Ming

Why for Chicago:
They now have one of the best big man rotations in the whole league, with Ming, Joakim Noah and Carlos Boozer taking up the slots. They just need to get some guard to pass it to them, Derrick Rose can’t do everything by himself.

Why for Cleveland:
Luol Deng is an expiring contract next season and the pick netted them Sam Dye, a very good prospect but a lousy person. They want to build around Carmelo Anthony and Yao Ming was getting too old.

Winner – Chicago
Getting one of the better Cs in the league for not much, count us in.

Philadelphia trades:
SG Corey Hines

New York trades:
PF Jeramy Smith

Why for Philadelphia:
Although Hines was a good player with decent potential, he made everyone angry at how arrogant he was. So he had to go. So in comes Smith, a small PF who can’t really do anything great, or even good for that matter. But at least he has a better attitude than Hines.

Why for New York:
Wilson Chandler is not a SG but they still have him starting there so Hines will give great backup when they need someone to defend quicker off guards.

Winner – New York
Talent wise it’s a no brainer but Hines will grate on people and could cause tension.

New York trades:
SF Hasheem Walker

Indiana trades:
PF Marlon Sanden

Why for New York:
Losing Jeramy Smith was no big deal because they got a better player in Marlon Sanden to replace him. Still not very good at defense, he is a step up in all other areas.

Why for Indiana:
Not sure. If they wanted Walker they should have picked him at #20. Maybe it was to save a few thousand dollars on his contract.

Winner – New York
Sanden is the better player and their contracts are similar. Not much else to say.

Los Angeles Clippers trades:
SF Al-Farouq Aminu

Memphis trades:
SG Xavier Henry

Why for Clippers:
Losing Eric Gordon to Indiana left a hole that was being filled by Eric Bledsoe, a 6’1 PG who tried but isn’t physically up to it. They now have a good bodied SG in Henry to step in.

Why for Memphis:
They have been looking for a backup to Rudy Gay to take a bit of strain away and they didn’t need Henry as they still have OJ Mayo.

Winner – Both
Both teams get something out of this trade and will walk away happy.

Oklahoma City trades:
SG Icikas Skapovsky

Atlanta trades:
SG Jordan Crawford

Why for Oklahoma City:
Skapovsky hasn’t been the player they thought he would be. Sure he has been decent but they are looking for a good player, and they got him in Jordan Crawford. Crawford averaged 16.2 points a game for the Hawks.

Why for Atlanta:
Crawford only has one year left on his contract and the Hawks don’t want to pay him after that so they tried to get something before he walks.

Winner – Oklahoma City
Crawford will blow up more at the Thunder with Westbrook passing him the ball and getting good looks from Durant’s double teams.

I get a text from Faron, my son saying that I should turn on SportCenter now.

“After his team’s loss to the Toronto Raptors Dwight Howard put his mind to work on getting revenge. On the first day of contract negotiations, the two time league MVP signed a 4 year contract reportedly worth much less than his play would dictate.

‘Losing to the Raptors like that, being swept, really hurt and I trust Otis and Stan to bring a team to Orlando that can win another championship and beat that smug Felix Elwood. This contract shows the league that I want to stay here in Florida and am willing to make sacrifices.’ Howard told reporters.

So what now for the Raptors? Getting Howard and Chris Paul was GM Felix Elwood’s master plan but as his big man is now unavailable and he has a star PG in Rajon Rondo, who does he go for?”

Damn! How dare he be loyal! Well, that stuffed me up; I guess I’m going to throw everything at Blake Griffin now.

So I do the next best thing, sign Rajon Rondo to a very good 4 year deal worth just over $40 million. For someone as good as Rondo this is very much a steal. Not Dwight Howard good, but still damn good.

I also renounce everyone who is a free agent except for Tim Mozgov, who I think will be a very good piece for this team and will look good next to Blake Griffin.

Our summer league starters are all players that have contracts here:
PG Andrew Norwood
SG Trent Bailey
SF George-Marie Gauthier
PG Ed Davis
C Tim Mozgov (will have a contract)

Our first summer league game is a loss to San Antonio 108-91 with Tim Mozgov top scoring for us with 22 points. James Anderson looked good with 22 points for the Spurs.

Mozgov again plays well with 30 points and 10 rebounds in our 97-81 win over Chicago. Scrub Tyren Johnson fills in for injured George-Marie Gauthier with 22 points and 5 steals.

Another win, this time over Sacramento 108-93 as we have 7 players in double figures. Andrew Norwood again has 8 assists as top King pick Tim Murphy didn’t play with a sprained ankle.

We go down in overtime 109-102 to Denver has the two centres square off. On our side Tim Mozgov has 29 points, 14 rebounds and 5 blocks we undrafted Justin Weaks has 13 points, 17 rebounds and 5 blocks.

Our last summer league game is a 110-90 smashing to Charlotte. #1 draft pick Povilas Tailos has 12 assists and Louis Dye has 21 points as our only opposition was Tim Mozgov (again) with 21 points and 13 rebounds.

Trent Bailey was disappointing and may play in the D-League again, as will George-Marie Gauthier.

The top players in this year’s free agency are –
PF Blake Griffin
PG Chris Paul
PG Russell Westbrook
PG Raymond Felton
C Roy Hibbert
C Al Jefferson
PG Steph Curry
C Tim Mozgov

So if a team wants a PG, this is the year to get one.

OK, first day of free agency and I send Blake Griffin a 5 year, $79.8 million max contract with an ETO if he wants out early. All I can do is wait now.

I also give Tim Mozgov a 6 year, $67 million contract. It may be overpaying, but you won’t get a legit 7 footer with his skills for anything less.

A couple of days later Sacramento gives Tyreke Evans a 6 year, $104 million contract. Yep, one hundred million for Tyreke Evans. Wow.

YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!! Ahem, Blake Griffin takes our offer and signs on the dotted line. That is why Mr. Petway gave me this job, my recruiting. Oh, and Russell Westbrook re-signed with the Thunder for something.

But, he is a restricted free agent so we have to wait to see if the Clippers will match the offer. This waiting is killing me.

On the same day Sam Dalembert gets some security by signing a 4 year, $26.8 million deal with Denver, Chris Paul jumps ship to the Eastern Conference signing a 5 year, $82.2 million contract with... Philadelphia.

The next day Blake Griffin is a Raptor. We also sign Luc Richard Mbah a Moute and Shane Battier to 2 year deals.

I’m so excited. We have a super team and are still under the cap. That is until Kevin King hits free agency but if my numbers are right we won’t need to break the bank for him. Tim is still mulling over the deal.

And the day after Griffin signs, Tim signs. We have a great team but I just need to fill in the gaps now. It seemed today was the big man signing day as Roy Hibbert re-signs with Indiana, Paul Milsap re-signed with Utah, Nikola Pekovic with Utah and Tiago Splitter with the Spurs. It seems Steph Curry isn’t happy with the Warriors and only signs a 1 year tender sheet so he will be an unrestricted free agent next season.

A fairly big signing was that of Manu Ginobili going to Dallas for the MLE. It looks like Manu wants a championship badly, too bad he didn’t sign here.

The two biggest remaining names, Raymond Felton and Al Jefferson, re-sign with their respective teams to long deals the next day.

Training camp comes and goes and Trent Bailey has improved and the coaches have found that he looks better than last year, but I still think he could do with another year in the D-League.

So here is your 2013-14 Toronto Raptors –
PG Rajon Rondo
SG Shane Battier
SF Kevin King
PF Blake Griffin
C Tim Mozgov
6th – Steve Nash
7th – Ed Davis
8th – DeMar DeRozan
9th- Earl Watson
10th – Kris Humphries
11th – Luc Richard Mbah a Moute
12th – Andrew Norwood
IR – Chuck Hayes
D-League – Trent Bailey
D-League – George-Marie Gauthier

Eastern Conference pre season rankings –
1 – Miami
2 – Toronto
3 – Chicago
4 – New Jersey
5 – New York
Second last – Orlando (?)
Last – Boston

I don’t like New Jersey at 4, especially with the Brook Lopez on the bench fiasco. The rest look decent apart from the ridiculous pick of Orlando in second last place.

Western Conference pre season rankings –
1 – Golden State
2 – Sacramento (?)
3 – Los Angeles Lakers
4 – Minnesota (?)
5 – Oklahoma City
9 – Dallas (?)
Last – Los Angeles Clippers

No doubt the Clippers are last after losing Blake Griffin, but having defending champions Dallas at 9th while upgrading their guards with Kirk Hinrich and Manu Ginobili. Baffling.

[I have had lots going on at the moment so have had this on the backburner, but I have a bit of time on my hands, and I’m itching to see what this season holds]

We get off to a good start with a 110-89 win over Charlotte. Kevin King plays well with 28 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists aided by Blake Griffin’s 20 points and 14 rebounds. DeMar DeRozan gets the start over Shane Battier and makes the most of it with 18 points. The best for the Bobcats was second year C Michael Webb with 16 points and 9 rebounds. #1 draft pick Povilas Tailos had a rough night with only 9 points in 25 minutes as he fouls out.

Toronto Raptors 1-0

It’s two in a row with another beating, this time over Boston 112-89 as Kevin King continues his play with 20 points, 10 assists and 6 rebounds. Rajon Rondo only had 9 assists. I don’t know the last time someone had more assists than Rajon Rondo when he plays 30+ minutes. Tim Mozgov shoots 8/11 for 21 points and Blake Griffin has 16 rebounds. There wasn’t much for the Celtics as Jules Riley top scores with 17 points off the bench.

Toronto Raptors 2-0

Milwaukee scores 104 points and still loses as we top them with 117. Kevin King has 34 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists helped by Blake Griffin’s 26 points and 10 rebounds as well as Rajon Rondo’s 27 points and 13 assists. As you could probably tell, there wasn’t much scoring after that. Andrew Bogut continues beating on us with 25 points, 15 rebounds and 4 blocks.

Toronto Raptors 3-0

Our next game was a big stamp of how good we are as we beat Miami (sans James) 128-93. We led by 37 points at one stage. Kevin King is again over 30 points but was helped by 5 other players in double figures. Dwayne Wade tries his best with 26 points but Chris Bosh stinks it up going 3/11 for 12 points.

Toronto Raptors 4-0

Orlando is now 0-4 and maybe that pre season prediction was on the money as we beat the Magic 101-95 in Orlando. Rajon Rondo plays magnificently with 25 points, 16 assists and 5 rebounds, making up for Kevin King’s first off night with only 10 points. Kris Humphries has 11 rebounds in 18 minutes off the bench. Reggie Williams has 23 points but Dwight Howard goes 2/8 from the foul line with only 16 points.

Toronto Raptors 5-0

We drop our first game to the Thunder 105-94 has Kevin Durant outplays our Kevin with 24 points and 8 rebounds. Jordan Crawford looks like a trade steal as he pours 22 points on us. We are headed by Rajon Rondo who has 16 points and 12 assists, but had 6 turnovers and fouled out.

Toronto Raptors 5-1

Dallas is undefeated (5-0) so it’s great to squeak out a 94-92 win as Kevin King scores 29 points and has 6 steals and we have 6 players in double figures. Tim Mozgov has 12 rebounds and 5 blocks while Dirk Nowitzki has a bad night as he shoots 5/12 for ‘only’ 21 points.

Toronto Raptors 6-1

Another win over a Texas team as we stomp the struggling Spurs 115-72. We shoot 57% from the field as Tim Mozgov goes off for 30 points, cancelling out Kevin King’s 1/13 shooting. Blake Griffin has 19 points and 15 rebounds. San Antonio has one player in double figures in Tiago Splitter with 16.

Toronto Raptors 7-1

It’s two 7-1 teams, and only one gets out alive. Luckily it’s us as we beat Portland 118-106 behind Blake Griffin who had 20 points and 14 rebounds. Rajon Rondo shoots 20 shots for 18 points, but dishes out 18 assists. Chris Kaman plays best for the Trailblazers with 18 points and 11 rebounds. This game showed how good we are and how unselfish we are as we had 35 assists.

Toronto Raptors 8-1

Kevin King is showing that he can do more than score (even though he can do that very well), and showed it tonight in our 102-91 win over Houston. King had 33 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists. Steve Nash showed he still has legs at age 39 with 13 points and 7 assists in 19 minutes. Kevin Martin had 26 points for the Rockets and rookie Jordan Cole shows his skills with 15 rebounds and 7 blocks.

Toronto Raptors 9-1

Our second five game win streak happens due to a 109-87 win over New Jersey. The Nets FINALLY have Brook Lopez and Al Horford starting together, although Horford has a stinker. Blake Griffin has 30 points, 11 rebounds and 3 blocks while Kevin King scores 28. Kris Humphries has 16 rebounds off the bench as Tim Mozgov battled with foul trouble.

Toronto Raptors 10-1

Kevin King scores a massive 45 points on only 24 shots in one of the best scoring games I have ever seen as we win again, 113-87 over Milwaukee. Andrew Bogut finally has a bad game against us, shooting 6/17 for 14 points. Kris Humphries grabs double digit rebounds with 12.

Toronto Raptors 11-1

Another great win over Orlando, 120-100 has DeMar DeRozan shoots brilliantly for 25 points, while Kevin King scores 31 points and drops 7 dimes. Dwight Howard again plays bad with 14 points, but still has 6 blocks.

Toronto Raptors 12-1

Travis Randolph has all the talent in the world but has the worst attitude, and this game would not have made him happy as we won 107-85 over Detroit. Tim Mozgov stomps Randolph with 29 points and 8 rebounds while Randolph fouled out in 20 minutes with only 4 points and 8 rebounds. Rajon Rondo dishes out 15 assists.

Toronto Raptors 13-1

Our last game of November is a 103-84 win over Chicago. With all of Rajon Rondo’s crazy numbers his defense is often overlooked, but this game showcased it as he held Derrick Rose to only 12 points and 6 turnovers. Yao Ming has 19 points and 13 rebounds, as we went head to head with Tim Mozgov who had 14 points, 19 rebounds and 6 blocks, helped by DeMar DeRozan’s 24 points.

Toronto Raptors 14-1

Yeah, that’s right; we have a 14-1 record. And our only loss was at home. Philadelphia is second with a 12-2 record with New York one game back from them. Washington is last with 2-12.

Portland is leading the West with a 12-4 record, with Dallas and Golden State being 1 game back. As expected the Clippers are last with a 2-13 record.

Toronto Top Scorers – Kevin King (24.9), Blake Griffin (14.7), Tim Mozgov (14.4), DeMar DeRozan (14.3), Rajon Rondo (13.6)
Toronto Top Rebounders – Blake Griffin (10.5), Tim Mozgov (8.5), Kris Humphries (6.5)
Toronto Top Assisters – Rajon Rondo (10.9), Kevin King (5.7), Steve Nash (2.7)

League Top Scorers – Dwayne Wade MIA (29.2), Joe Johnson ATL (27.8), Kevin Durant OKC (27.8), Danny Granger IND (27.0)
League Top Rebounders – Dwight Howard ORL (13.8), Andrew Bogut MIL (12.1), Kevin Love MIN (11.8), Marc Gasol MEM (11.4)
League Top Assisters – Rajon Rondo TOR (10.9), Chris Paul PHI (10.3), Derrick Rose CHI (9.4), Brandon Jennings MIL (8.7)

Rookie Top Scorers – Marlon Zinn PHO (15.9), Ted Ballinger ATL (13.3), Povilas Tailos CHA (12.2), Dontonio Seymour WAS (11.8)

Rookie Top Assisters – Marlon Zinn PHO (6.4), Tony Rein BOS (5.5), Clark Kimm CLE (5.5), Povilas Tailos CHA (5.4)

Great rookie year at the moment, with a great bunch of point guards. Not too bad rebounders either.

Dwayne Wade picks up the slack as Lebron James still has a torn Achilles and is rewarded with the November Player of the Game title. He averaged 29.2 points, 4.7 assists, 4.0 rebounds, 2.4 steals and 1.0 blocks as the Miami Heat went 11-3 for the month.

#3 pick Marlon Zinn was awarded with the Rookie of the Month title with averages of 15.9 points, 6.4 assists, 3.3 rebounds and 0.8 steals as the Suns went 3-13 in November.

Zinn looks really good, as in he should have been picked above Tailos for the #1 pick good.

No trades this month but I will be shocked if Travis Randolph is not traded, same with Justin Cabrera.

Another game another monstering as we beat the Clippers 101-74 as their top scorer was Eric Bledsoe with 12 points. Kevin King has 8 assists to go with his 25 points, aided by Blake Griffin’s 24 points in 28 minutes and Tim Mozgov had 16 rebounds. Total domination from the start.

Toronto Raptors 15-1

11 games in a row as we beat Denver 118-103 behind three players over 20 points: Kevin King (27 points, 8 assists), Tim Mozgov (20 points) and DeMar DeRozan (21 points) and Rajon Rondo shared it for 13 assists. Mo Williams had 23 points for the Nuggets but we had them beat at halftime.

Toronto Raptors 16-1

I’m really impressed with Kevin King’s unselfishness. He could become a very ‘me first’ player with his talent but he is averaging 6.0 assists for the early season so far to go along with his 25.0 points, and to get 6 assists in ANY game playing with Rajon Rondo is a miracle.

The next night we beat the Pistons in Detroit 120-95 as Kevin King makes a liar out of me, giving out on 2 assists only. He did have 26 points though. Steve Nash had an amazing cameo off the bench with 16 points in 9 minutes on 5/5 shooting. Luis Scola is coming off the bench and he scored 23 points in 26 minutes, with Travis Randolph shot 3/13 for 13 points.

Toronto Raptors 17-1

I might sound cocky but going up against the 3-14 Wizards was not going to be a challenge and we beat them 102-83 in Washington. Blake Griffin had 16 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists while Kevin King handed out 7 assists with Rondo giving 11. Kris Humphries has been impressive so far and he had 8 rebounds off the bench. Gilbert Arenas was the only light with 34 points. The Wizards are oozing with potential but are 2-3 years away from competing.

Toronto Raptors 18-1

We beat the Carlos Boozer-less Bulls 117-84 behind Blake Griffin who had 24 points and 16 rebounds, helped by Kevin King’s 27 points. Derrick Rose was the only Bull to show up tonight as he had 25 points in 23 shots.

Toronto Raptors 19-1

The next night San Antonio beats New Orleans. No biggie right? Yes biggie, as the Spurs scored 110 and kept the Hornets to 57 points. The Hornets shot 28% from the field, 6/30 3PT, and 37.5% from the line. The last quarter in particular with the Spurs starters off they still outscored New Orleans 37-6. The Hornets are definitely missing Chris Paul.

Going into the game against the 5-15 Cavs shouldn’t matter much but that attitude came back to bite us but we squeeze out a 114-113 overtime win as Carmelo Anthony scored 33 points and rookie Clark Kimm scored 23 points and caused Rajon Rondo turn it over 5 times. Blake Griffin took the lead with 27 points, 16 rebounds and 4 blocks but we shouldn’t have been in this situation. We outrebounded them 53-44 but they shot a massive 44 free throws, hitting 35. This is a huge wake up call.

Toronto Raptors 20-1

Thankfully we had that scare because we were switched on for our battle with 3rd seed Philadelphia, beating them 107-94. Ed Davis goes perfect 4/4 for 10 points off the bench as all of our starting five score more than 13 points. Surprise Wesley Johnson had 24 points while Chris Paul had 17 points and 10 assists. I said that the Timberwolves had the best of the Evan Turner/Wesley Johnson trade, but I’m eating crow now.

Toronto Raptors 21-1

It was only a matter of time before we had an off night as we get stomped 108-70 to the Lakers. We shoot 31% from the field but I’m not worried about one bad night. Kobe Bryant had 26 points for the victors.

Toronto Raptors 21-2

We bounce back with a 112-97 win over lowly Phoenix. Blake Griffin and Kevin King hold starting PF/SF for the Suns Mario Hayes and Josh Childress to a combined 23 minutes because of foul trouble. Griffin had 31 points and 12 rebounds while King had 26 points. Rajon Rondo had an easy night as he only played 25 minutes to give Phoenix one last look at their former star, Steve Nash, as he put on a show for 8 points and 8 assists as it might be his last game in Phoenix. Rookie sensation Marlon Zinn had 23 points and 7 assists, but turned it over 8 times.

Toronto Raptors 22-2

The next night we go into Sacramento and get it done quickly in a 122-90 win. Kevin King had 35 points while Tim Mozgov scored 18 points and grabbed 13 rebounds. The Kings still have James Blanchard at SF which is stunting his growth as he only had 18 minutes on the court.

Toronto Raptors 23-2

There are some big names being shopped and some HUGE names being shopped. Al Horford has outstayed his welcome and is being offered by New Jersey and 20ppg Jrue Holiday is having offers given for him in Philadelphia. The two HUGE names are Kobe Bryant and Lebron James. I’m not sure why, maybe it has to do with James’ injury woes and Bryant’s contract year but I will be keeping tabs on this closely.

We are outscoring our opponents by 17 a game, and this was no different as we beat on the Bucks 107-86. DeMar DeRozan has a good showing with 27 points, helped by Kevin King’s 24 points and Blake Griffin’s 22 points and 13 rebounds. Arron Afflalo had 25 points and Andrew Bogut was one block off a triple double with 19 points, 15 rebounds and 9 blocks.

Toronto Raptors 24-2

For some reason Andrew Bogut always has a good game against us, even though we have decent bigmen. I think he might be too polished for Tim Mozgov and gets around him too easily.

We win by 41 points the next game, beating the Nets 109-68 as they shot 31% from the field. Al Horford has moved to the bench for some reason and is suffering for it. Steve Nash scored 1 point but had 10 assists as this was a bench game long before garbage time.

Toronto Raptors 25-2

Inconceivable! We lose our second game for the month, going down to the Jazz 109-97. 6’9 Andrei Kirilenko is their starting SG as he poured in 25 points over the hapless DeMar DeRozan. Our best player was Tim Mozgov with 17 points and 13 rebounds but we weren’t really in this game.

Toronto Raptors 25-3

We celebrate New Year’s Eve with a 114-102 win over Minnesota as Blake Griffin shows Kevin Love how a real PF plays as he had 23 points, 14 rebounds and 4 blocks to Love’s 11 points and 5 fouls. Shane Battier hits 4 threes on his way to 16 points off the bench. Evan Turner had the most for the Pups with 29 points.

Toronto Raptors 26-3

So at the end of 2013 we have a 4.5 game lead over second place New York who are going well with a 22-8 record, and Philadelphia is one game behind them. Detroit is languishing in last place with a 8-22 record.

In the West Utah is leading with an 18-11 record with Dallas, Portland and San Antonio a game behind. The Clippers are in tank mode already with a 3-29 record.

I really, really don’t want to jinx things but we are on track for 73 wins, breaking the all time mark. But it is REALLY early to start talking like that.

Toronto Top Scorers – Kevin King (24.0), Blake Griffin (17.1), Tim Mozgov (13.4), Rajon Rondo (13.1), DeMar DeRozan (12.9)
Toronto Top Rebounders – Blake Griffin (10.2), Tim Mozgov (9.9), Kris Humphries (6.2)
Toronto Top Assisters – Rajon Rondo (10.1), Kevin King (5.0), Steve Nash (3.1)

League Top Scorers – Kevin Durant OKC (27.9), Dwayne Wade MIA (25.9), Joe Johnson ATL (25.8), Carmelo Anthony CLE (25.5)
League Top Rebounders – Dwight Howard ORL (14.1), Andrew Bogut MIL (12.0), Chris Kaman POR (11.7), Kevin Love MIN (11.5)
League Top Assisters – Rajon Rondo TOR (10.1), Derrick Rose CHI (9.8), Chris Paul PHI (9.7), Brandon Jennings MIL (9.1)

Rookie Top Scorers – Marlon Zinn PHO (19.1), Ted Ballinger ATL (12.2), Dontonio Seymour WAS (12.0)
Rookie Top Rebounders – Jordan Cole HOU (8.7), Marcus Mickins MIN (8.3), Claudio Carrera MEM (7.2)
Rookie Top Assisters – Marlon Zinn PHO (6.3), Clark Kimm CLE (6.0), Tony Rein BOS (5.0)

First round of draft prospects:

1 – SG Jeff Brown (Texas A&M) Freshman
Is small, raw and playing for A&M. I really don’t think he will be at this point at the end of the season but has shown that he can play at the next level.

2 – PF Reggie Young (South Carolina) Freshman
Is a beast, no doubt about it. He is the opposite of Brown as he is large, NBA ready and... plays for South Carolina. So not quite the opposite. He is putting up ridiculous numbers of 30.4 points and 19.3 rebounds.

3 – PF Scott Channing (North Carolina) Freshman
If it wasn’t for Young tearing it up, Channing would be the talk of the NCAA. He averages 28.3 points, 16.3 rebounds and 6.3 assists in a better environment. Get ready for the ‘Who’s better?’ debate all year.

4 – PF Darrell Holtz (Florida State) Sophomore
Is the third PF at this stage and the way the other two have been playing he will always be the third best power forward in this draft if he stays at his current production.

5 – C Dexter Floyd (Michigan State) Senior
Has a name that is more suited to a laboratory than a basketball court, but no-one has told him that as he stands 7’1 and weighs 276lbs. He is a rebounding machine and has a great head on his shoulders.

As last year was a guard heavy draft, this year is devoid of them completely. Apart from Brown at #1 the next SG is ranked at 13 while the first ranked PG is at #20 with super raw Kenny Costa taking that spot.

The December Player of the Month crown went to Derrick Rose from the Chicago Bulls. He averaged 27.1 points, 10.1 assists and 4.3 rebounds in the month as the Bulls went 8-6 in that stretch.

Marlon Zinn was named Rookie of the Month again, this time averaging an astonishing 23.3 points, 6.1 assists, 3.9 rebounds and 1.3 steals as the Suns went 6-6 in the month.

As I said before, Marlon Zinn is a baller and he still has quite a bit of growing to do.

In trade news I was right –

Phoenix trades:
2014 1st round pick (PHO)

Detroit trades:
C Travis Randolph

Why for Phoenix:
On paper the Suns have one of the best young cores in the whole league. Probably THE best. But that is on paper, as Travis Randolph is a jerk and will probably bring this team down. So Phoenix fans hold onto this feeling that this team looks great and think of the future.

Why for Detroit:
The Pistons were 8-22 with Randolph and he was bringing this team down. Now they are 8-22 without the cancer and in possession of a 9-20 team’s first round draft pick.

Winner – Detroit
Talent wise Phoenix should be jumping up and down but Randolph is a terrible person. Watch the Pistons get better without him. Addition by subtraction in this case.

New Orleans trades:
2014 1st round pick (NOH)

Milwaukee trades:
C Travis Grimes

Why for New Orleans:
The Hornets are 12-20 because they lost their former MVP but trading their pick for a below average C is baffling. They already have two Cs on their roster better than Grimes (Emeka Okafor and Reginald Barber).

Why for Milwaukee:
Grimes has been decent for the Bucks in previous years but this year has been edged out by emerging Larry Sanders so was expendable. The Bucks now has a possible high pick in a decent draft.

Winner – Milwaukee
They didn’t need Grimes and got a decent pick out of it, sounds like a winner to me.

Minnesota trades:
2014 1st round pick (MIN)

Los Angeles Lakers trades:
C Scott Williams

Why for Minnesota:
It’s almost identical to the NOH/MIL trade but the Pups aren’t as bad as the Hornets. Williams is short but a great rebounder but doesn’t bring much else, which sounds like their building block Kevin Love.

Why for Los Angeles:
Kobe is mad at the team and the team is mad at Kobe so there might be a blowing up of the Lakers soon. They are below .500 so getting a lottery draft pick could accelerate their rebuilding process.

Winner – Los Angeles
See trade above.

Weird trades as bad team trading away their 1st round picks for not much. Maybe there is some shady, under the table happenings a foot.

Lebron James still isn’t back for the Heat but they are still formidable at 21-10 but that doesn’t stop us beating them 125-102 in Miami. Blake Griffin has 32 points, 8 rebounds and 4 blocks while Kevin King nets 38 points. Those two will be great teammates to build upon for years to come. Dwayne Wade top scores for Miami with 18 points but shot 3/12 from the field.

Toronto Raptors 27-3

Indiana shoots 56% from the field as they stop us 124-115 as Eric Gordon scores 34 points, helped by Roy Hibbert’s 23 points and 16 rebounds. Blake Griffin had 34 points and 12 rebounds on our side before fouling out and Rajon Rondo dished 14 assists as our bench did not show up.

Toronto Raptors 27-4

The next night the Pacers put up 144 against the Lakers who scored 115. Indiana shot 62% as they totally demolished the perennial favourites. Look out for the Pacers.

We don’t drop two in a row beating the Nets 104-95 as Blake Griffin continues his run, this time with 32 points, 11 rebounds and 5 blocks. He was helped by Rajon Rondo who had 18 points and 12 assists. Brook Lopez is putting up good numbers again as he netted 24 points and 15 rebounds against us but the biggest shock was Terrence Williams who had 21 points, 11 rebounds and 8 assists. Williams has been a constant under-achiever until this year as he is getting good minutes and producing.

Toronto Raptors 28-4

Blake Griffin’s run stops at this game, but it was good that his teammates picked up the slack as we win 108-95 over Portland. Kevin King had 27 points; Tim Mozgov pulled 17 rebounds down, DeMar DeRozan scores 17 rebounds, grabbed 8 rebounds and stole the ball 4 times while our bench outscored their bench 40-24. All in all a great team win.

Toronto Raptors 29-4

It’s Rajon Rondo’s turn to be the star as our captain has 18 points, 14 assists and 5 rebounds in our 102-92 win over Houston. Tim Mozgov helped with 14 points and 14 rebounds while Kris Humphries is slowly taking over in ‘my favourite bench player’ with 8 rebounds in 11 minutes. Earl Barron still holds that crown (even though he isn’t on my team anymore) but if Hump continues his play he will be in the lead. Kevin Martin has 25 points for the losers.

Toronto Raptors 30-4

Ed Davis has 12 points and 5 rebounds in 15 minutes, Steve Nash has 11 points and 3 assists in 10 minutes off the bench, and the Toronto Raptors win 114-80 over the falling Hornets. Oh yeah, Kevin King had 31 points but that is just a given at this stage. New Orleans are starting 6’3 Travis Howard and 6’2 Brandon Dawson together in the backcourt which is always trouble.

Toronto Raptors 31-4

Our win streak is up to 5 with a 112-100 road win over Memphis. All five of our starters scored 17 points or more, which left the bench, or more specifically Kris Humphries to rebounds, as he had 12. OJ Majo had 32 points for the Grizzlies but the player I really like is rookie Claudio Carrera who had 14 points, 12 rebounds and 4 blocks and from all accounts is a top notch guy.

Toronto Raptors 32-4

A big test is next, coming up against the 25-12 Magic who are thirsty for our blood and we beat them by 38, 119-81. Kevin King puts Reggie Williams to shame with 38 points, aided by DeMar DeRozan’s 19 points. Dwight Howard puts up... wait for it... 1 shot. He made it but still, 1 shot. He had 4 points, 9 rebounds and 5 turnovers. I guess he is all talk and no action.

Toronto Raptors 33-4

I’m sorry for sounding cocky but the way he was wagging his finger at me in the off-season when he signed that deal with the Magic give me some right to give him some back.

The next night we go into Orlando and I have to be ushered in the staff door as the fans are out to kill me. I don’t know if it’s the weather or what but these Magic fans are Lindsay Lohan crazy. Especially after we win 118-107 as Kevin King equals his career high with 45 points. Rajon Rondo helps out with 14 points, 13 assists and 7 rebounds while Dwight Howard takes 13 shots this game, hitting 6 of them for 14 points and 5 blocks. Better but still not any good to beat this team. Boom.

Toronto Raptors 34-4

I’m loving this rivalry that has happened between Toronto (and me) and the state of Florida. Both Orlando and Miami would love for us to go down and I say bring it.

Blake Griffin and Kevin King combine for 65 points as we win 114-95 over Boston. Tim Mozgov has 16 points, 13 rebounds and 6 blocks while Rajon Rondo has 16 assists as our starters are just too good for this declining Celtic outfit. Andrea Bargnani is still there as he put up 19 points and 6 fouls. Good times.

Toronto Raptors 35-4

I knew this was going to happen as we crash against the horrible Cavs 109-97. Carmelo shows Kevin King how to score as he has 28 points, helped by JJ Hickson’s 19 points and 10 rebounds. They shoot 58% to our 40% as we ran out of energy after our big games against Orlando and Boston.

Toronto Raptors 35-5

Much better. We smash Phoenix 108-78 as Travis Randolph comes off the bench as he broke his nose in a ‘training accident’. Hmm. Tim Mozgov has 23 points, Blake Griffin has 19 points, 16 rebounds and 4 blocks while Rajon Rondo has 14 points, 16 assists and 7 rebounds as our bench was on for most of the last quarter.

Toronto Raptors 36-5

The next night we keep the second seed in the West, the San Antonio Spurs to... 67 points. We score 103 as our lead was as much as 47. They shot 24% from the field as this was done early. They had one player in double figures in DeJuan Blair off the bench with 12 points. Ouch. Kevin King was the best for us with 22 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists.

Toronto Raptors 37-5

We beat Boston again, this time 109-93 with Blake Griffin starring with 27 points and 11 rebounds as we outrebound them 50-34 with 3 players in double figures in Griffin, Kevin King (11) and Tim Mozgov (12). Jules Riley was the best for the Celtics with 17 points.

Toronto Raptors 38-5

Our largest lead in our win over New Orleans was 44, and we won 119-79 as Blake Griffin again took centre stage with 36 points and 14 rebounds. Tim Mozgov helped out with 23 points and Kevin King added 18 points of his own. Brandon Dawson got the best of DeMar DeRozan with 18 points.

Toronto Raptors 39-5

Our bench hasn’t been as good as previous years as we have been relying on our starters more, but with starters like this why wouldn’t you?

Our last game for January is a 126-111 win over the intriguing Wizards. Kevin King rips through them with 41 points and Steve Nash has 16 points in 9 minutes off the bench. Gilbert Arenas has 31 points for the losers.

Toronto Raptors 40-5

So at the end of the month we are 40-5, still in front of the 1995-96 Chicago Bulls who went 72-10. Philadelphia has slipped to 5.5 games behind us, and third place Orlando is a staggering 10 games behind us. Cleveland is last at 13-33.

Utah is surprising everyone with being in the lead in the West with 27-17, tied with Portland. San Antonio is third, 2.5 games back. The Clippers are still in tank mode at 6-40.

Toronto Top Scorers – Kevin King (24.8), Blake Griffin (18.9), Tim Mozgov (13.9), DeMar DeRozan (12.4), Rajon Rondo (12.2)
Toronto Top Rebounders – Tim Mozgov (10.3), Blake Griffin (10.2), Kris Humphries (5.8), Kevin King (4.6)
Toronto Top Assisters – Rajon Rondo (10.6), Kevin King (4.8), Steve Nash (2.9)

League Top Scorers – Kevin Durant OKC (27.4), Carmelo Anthony CLE (25.5), Dwayne Wade MIA (25.3), Danny Granger IND (25.0)
League Top Rebounders – Dwight Howard ORL (14.1), Chris Kaman POR (11.5), Andrew Bogut MIL (11.2), Kevin Love MIN (11.2)
League Top Assisters – Rajon Rondo TOR (10.6), Chris Paul PHI (10.2), Derrick Rose CHI (10.0), Darren Collison IND (8.8)

Rookie Top Scorers – Marlon Zinn PHO (18.3), Ted Ballinger ATL (12.0), Zack Arthurs DEN (11.7), Dontonio Seymour WAS (10.8)
Rookie Top Rebounders – Jordan Cole HOU (8.9), Marcus Mickens MIN (8.2), Claudio Carrera MEM (7.2), Marlon Sanden NYK (6.0)
Rookie Top Assisters – Clark Kimm CLE (6.4), Marlon Zinn PHO (6.3), Tony Rein BOS (5.6), Travis Howard NOH (3.9)

Second round of draft prospects (number in brackets previous rank):

1 (2) – PF Reggie Young (South Carolina) Freshman
Takes his rightful place on top of the rankings and believe it or not but increased his gaudy numbers to 31.0 points and 19.7 rebounds. Look out Dwight Howard Reggie Young is coming for your rebounding crown.

2 (3) – PF Scott Channing (North Carolina) Freshman
Is getting looked over again, with good reason though, but is putting up great numbers. Has great hands and leading North freaking Carolina to a perfect season (so far).

3 (1) – SG Jeff Brown (Texas A&M) Freshman
Drops a bit but the scouts must be seeing something that I don’t. There is better players but he is the best SG in a very bad guard draft.

4 (NR) – C Eric Archibald (Michigan State) Sophomore
Can you say pressure in training? Archibald overtakes teammate Dexter Floyd in the rankings and this columnist would love to be in a Spartan training day. The two Cs are averaging 44.7 points, 30.1 rebounds and 6.5 blocks per game in the tough Big Ten conference.

5 (5) – C Dexter Floyd (Michigan State) Senior
Now has competition for the best C in the draft with Eric Archibald leap frogging him. This is a very interesting battle.

Tyreke Evans is living up to his massive contract by winning the January Player of the Month title, by averaging 27.4 points, 6.9 assists, 4.9 rebounds and 1.6 steals, topped off with a 53 point outing in their one point overtime win over Miami.

For the third time this year, Marlon Zinn has won the Rookie of the Month award. He averaged 16.9 points, 6.5 assists and 2.9 rebounds as the Suns went 1-14 in the month.

It might be karma but all of the big 3 in Miami are out injured –
Dwayne Wade – broken finger – out 31 days
Lebron James – torn Achilles – 34 days
Chris Bosh – broken wrist – 14 days

It will be interesting to see how they fit together when all of their stars get healthy.

There were no trades last month, but there should be more as the trade deadline gets nearer.

We get one back on Indiana as we win in Indiana 110-98. Kevin King had 28 points, Blake Griffin added 16 points and 10 rebounds while DeMar DeRozan snapped out of his slump with 27 points. Eric Gordon top scored for the vanquished with 22 points.

Toronto Raptors 41-5

Sacramento had no answer for us as we stomp them 121-91 as Ed Davis shows who’s boss with 26 points in 28 minutes. Tyreke Evans is still going strong with 28 points.

Toronto Raptors 42-5

It’s 8 on the trot with a 128-105 win over Detroit. Kevin King serves it up to Joe Taylor with 35 points and Chuck Hayes unglues himself from the bench with 19 points and 9 rebounds as Kris Humphries is injured for a few days. Al Jefferson had Tim Mozgov in foul trouble all game and scores 17 points and grabs 9 rebounds.

Toronto Raptors 43-5

Another day, another win, and another 25 point game from Kevin King as we monster New Jersey 116-97. Rajon Rondo has 15 points and 16 assists while Ed Davis continues his form with 11 points and 5 rebounds in 19 minutes. Brook Lopez is their best player with 24 points and 10 rebounds.

Toronto Raptors 44-5

We keep the Nuggets to 37% shooting as we win 97-72 in Denver. Kevin King (21 points, 11 rebounds, 7 assists and 4 steals), Blake Griffin (28 points) and Tim Mozgov (20 points, 14 rebounds and 4 blocks) carried us to the win as well as our stifling defense. Nene top scored with 23 points but they only had 2 players in double figures.

Toronto Raptors 45-5

It’s the 45-5 Raptors against the 6-46 Clippers which seems like the biggest David and Goliath battle in recent memory but there wasn’t any stones to the head as we win 105-86. Kevin King has 29 points, 7 assists and 6 rebounds, ably helped by Blake Griffin’s 28 points and 10 rebounds. DeMar DeRozan misses only 3 shots on his way to 16 points, while Xavier Henry is the best for the Clippers with 15 points.

Toronto Raptors 46-5

We turn around the next night with a 114-100 win over Golden State, as our top 2 show the way again. Blake Griffin has 29 points, 17 rebounds and 3 blocks while Kevin King gives his best with 23 points, 10 rebounds and 7 assists, while Rajon Rondo dishes his usual 10+ assists with 11. Monta Ellis tries his best with 29 points but wasn’t helped by Steph Curry, who only had 7 shots (9 points) and turned it over 5 times.

Toronto Raptors 47-5

It’s All Star Weekend time again; hopefully we can have a few all stars and maybe someone in the skills games.

Stanley Robinson (NOH) wins the Slam Dunk Contest over Rodney Benoit (SAC) who seems to be in every Slam Dunk Contest since he was drafted, while Mike Miller (MIA) dominated the Long Distance Shootout, beating Arron Afflalo (MIL) and Anthony Morrow (NJN). We didn’t have any contestants in either contest.

An actual game was played in the Rookie/Sophomore game; usually it’s just a dunk competition. The rookies come back from 9 down in the 4th before losing in overtime 116-111. Cherokee Oquin was named MVP of the game with 29 points and 11 rebounds but Travis Randolph was slightly snubbed as he had 16 points, 11 rebounds and 9 blocks. Zack Arthurs was the best for the rookies with 24 points and 9 rebounds, while Claudio Carrera had 17 rebounds and 6 blocks. For some reason ROY leader Marlon Zinn didn’t play, even though he is not injured.

It was a barn-burner in the All-Star game as the Eastern Conference won 147-130 as Dwight Howard took home the MVP honours with 27 points and 7 rebounds. We had two All-Stars in Kevin King (23 points, 5 assists and 4 rebounds) and Blake Griffin (7 points and 12 rebounds). Both players were starters. Golden State had two starters in Monta Ellis and Steph Curry, with the latter being the Western Conference’s best player with 27 points.

One interesting statistic is that we lead the league in team points per game at 110.3, while we also lead the league in opponent points per game with 93.0 points. So our average winning margin is nearly 17 points a game. Wow.

The first game after the All Star weekend was a 108-89 win in our direction over Dallas. DeMar DeRozan had 20 points while Ed Davis filled in for foul troubled Blake Griffin with 17 points, 8 rebounds and 5 blocks while holding Dirk Nowitzki to 6/20 shooting for 16 points.

Toronto Raptors 48-5

We beat the very good New York Knicks 114-100 as we have 3 players over 20 points. They were Rajon Rondo (21 points, 13 assists), Blake Griffin (22 points, 15 rebounds and 4 blocks) and Kevin King (22 points). We turn it over 20 times to their 15 but we shoot over 51% from the field. Steve Nash had 14 points and 5 assists in 14 minutes. Varlam Bebutov had 9 points, 5 assists and 4 turnovers off the bench which is a poor showing for his usual output. If it wasn’t for Raymond Felton, Bebutov would be starting and putting up big numbers.

Toronto Raptors 49-5

It’s a home and home as we go to New York to play the Knicks again, and again we beat them, this time 103-95 to bring up our 50th win already. Our dynamic duo had 58 points, 15 rebounds and 9 assists, helped out by Tim Mozgov’s 14 points, 11 rebounds and 4 blocks. Amar’e Stoudemire had 20 points and 16 rebounds but they shot only 40%.

Toronto Raptors 50-5

This game shows how good we are, as we disintegrate the very, very good Indiana Pacers 111-71, with Danny Granger had 30 of those points. A rare cameo from Luc Richard Mbah a Moute with 10 points and 4 rebounds in 15 minutes as Blake Griffin lead the way with 29 points and 9 rebounds.

Toronto Raptors 51-5

The last game of February is our 17th win in a row with a 118-100 win over Atlanta. We have 6 players in double figures with the highlight being Steve Nash’s 12 points in 9 minutes, while Rajon Rondo had 12 points, 10 assists and 6 rebounds. Boleslav Silajdic had 19 points on 20 shots as it looks like he is still getting used to Atlanta’s gameplan (traded in the month, recap at the start of next month).

Toronto Raptors 52-5

Thus ends the month of Feb, and we still have only lost 1 game away from home. Philadelphia is at .724 yet is 10.5 games back, and Orlando is a staggering 15 games behind in third place. Detroit hasn’t got any better without Travis Randolph as they are last with a 17-38 record.

Portland and Utah are still in a tie for first place in the West at 35-22 with Golden State being 1.5 games behind them. Los Angeles Clippers still need to win 3 more games to be safe from the worst record in history. Can we have to record breaking teams in one season?

Toronto Top Scorers – Kevin King (24.8), Blake Griffin (19.3), Tim Mozgov (13.7), DeMar DeRozan (12.7), Rajon Rondo (11.9)
Toronto Top Rebounders – Tim Mozgov (10.3), Blake Griffin (10.0), Kris Humphries (5.8), Kevin King (4.9)
Toronto Top Assisters – Rajon Rondo (10.6), Kevin King (4.9), Steve Nash (2.9)

League Top Scorers – Kevin Durant OKC (26.9), Carmelo Anthony CLE (25.6), Danny Granger IND (25.0), Kevin King TOR (24.8)
League Top Rebounders – Dwight Howard ORL (14.1), Andrew Bogut MIL (11.7), Chris Kaman POR (11.5), Amar’e Stoudemire NYK (11.4)
League Top Assisters – Rajon Rondo TOR (10.6), Chris Paul PHI (10.4), Derrick Rose CHI (10.0), Darren Collison IND (8.5)

Rookie Top Scorers – Marlon Zinn PHO (18.2), Ted Ballinger ATL (12.1), Zack Arthurs DEN (11.5), Dontonio Seymour WAS (10.4)
Rookie Top Rebounders – Jordan Cole HOU (8.8), Marcus Mickens MIN (8.0), Claudio Carrera MEM (7.4), Marlon Sanden NYK (5.8)
Rookie Top Assisters – Clark Kimm CLE (6.6), Marlon Zinn PHO (6.5), Tony Rein BOS (5.4), Travis Howard NOH (4.0)

Third round of draft prospects (number in brackets previous rank):

1 (1) – PF Reggie Young (South Carolina) Freshman
Numbers have dropped and his defense looks a little suspect, but is a pure a scorer as you can get.

2 (2) – PF Scott Channing (North Carolina) Freshman
The numbers are getting closer and closer the longer the season drags on, and Channing is a better passer and defender.

3 (3) – SG Jeff Brown (Texas A&M) Freshman
Bootsy Nelson at #17 is the next SG on the rankings and looks more polished than Brown, but Brown shows that special little word – potential.

4 (4) – C Eric Archibald (Michigan State) Sophomore
He is the only non-freshman in the top 5 and his numbers have dropped but still looks very good and very nimble.

5 (NR) – PF Joey Kouser (Southern Illinois) Freshman
New player to the top 5 is the opposite of all the other big men in the draft. Sure he is tall (6’11) but he is only 216lbs and uses his speed and skills to get past his man.

We finally have a Player of the Month, with Kevin King winning the February’s title. He averaged 24.8 points, 5.8 rebounds, 5.2 assists and 2.2 steals as the Raptors went perfect in the month going 12-0.

Marlon Zinn again won Rookie of the Month and is the favourite to win the Rookie of the Year. This time he averaged 17.9 points, 7.2 assists, 3.0 rebounds and 1.2 steals as the Suns went 7-5 including a 5 game winning streak.

February trades –

Atlanta trades:
2014 1st round pick (ATL)

Memphis trades:
PG Boleslav Silajdic

Why for Atlanta:
Sure the Hawks are not in the playoff picture they shouldn’t be in the high lottery so getting someone of Silajdic’s play is fantastic. He is tiny and can’t really play defense but he is a great floor general and can score at will.

Why for Memphis:
Very iffy trade here by the Grizzlies, as they only have one PG on the roster in Grevis Vasquez and only one more player on the bench that can play the position in ancient Peja Stojakovic, and he is injured! Very baffling trade and Memphis is going to go downhill after this.

Winner – Atlanta
Sure the pick will be in the lottery but at this stage they won’t get a player of Silajdic’s talent where they are slotted.

Orlando trades:
2014 1st round pick (ORL)

New Jersey trades:
PF Jarian Turner

Why for Orlando:
That pick will be low 20s so getting a player like Turner is a steal. Sure Turner won’t set tongues wagging but he will be a good piece on their bench.

Why for New Jersey:
The Nets have a surplus of big men so they decided to stock up on picks to either swing a deal or get some young players.

Winner – Both
The Magic got a bench piece while the Nets relieved their glut of PFs. Win/win.

That’s 18 wins in a row as we beat Boston again 114-101 behind not Kevin King, not Blake Griffin but Tim Mozgov and Rajon Rondo. Tim had 33 points and 13 rebounds while Rajon Rondo flirted with a triple double again with 10 points, 15 assists and 9 rebounds as Andrea Bargnani was their only resistance with 30 points.

Toronto Raptors 53-5

Charlotte’s top scorer was only 15 points in Louis Williams as we stomp them 116-85 behind Tim Mozgov’s 23 points and 15 rebounds as we had 7 players in double figures in a fantastic team game.

Toronto Raptors 54-5

That’s win number 20 as we beat Washington 115-87 behind Blake Griffin’s 28 points and 13 rebounds, while Kevin King had 22 points. Steve Nash had a cameo with 13 points in 10 minutes. There were no standouts for the Wizards.

Toronto Raptors 55-5

This is a big test against the full strength Heat and we win 112-99 as Kevin King schools Lebron James to 39 points, while Rajon Rondo had 17 assists and kept Dwayne Wade to 1/9 shooting for 6 points and 8 turnovers. Tim Mozgov had 24 points by just towering over shorter Udonis Haslem.

Toronto Raptors 56-5

Another tough game against Chris Paul and the 76ers as we lose for the first time in 22 games 110-98 as Wesley Johnson had 30 points, helped by Chris Paul’s 28 points and 11 assists. Blake Griffin tried hard with 22 points and 18 rebounds but we were drained from last night’s game against Miami.

Toronto Raptors 56-6

We have a losing streak for the first time in the season as we go down hard against Milwaukee 121-110. Kevin King is held to 7/27 shooting as Larry Sanders nearly has a triple double off the bench with 16 points, 10 blocks and 9 rebounds and Marcus Thornton has 30 points. Blake Griffin has 30 points and 15 rebounds but we only shot 40%.

Toronto Raptors 56-7

That’s three in a row and I feel that we are going to lose the best record ever as we lose in Chicago 114-107. Derrick Rose schools Rajon Rondo with 28 points and 14 assists while Rondo fouled out in 26 minutes. Kevin King shoots badly again going 8/22 for 28 points. We wasted DeMar DeRozan’s 20 points.

Toronto Raptors 56-8

We finally win again with a 106-95 win over Utah which shows which conference is the best as Rajon Rondo got angry with his showing against Derrick Rose and goes off against Deron Williams with 21 points and 12 assists, helped by Tim Mozgov’s 20 points and 19 rebounds. Kevin King snaps out of his funk with 25 points.

Toronto Raptors 57-8

OK, I’m worried now. We lose to the woeful Pistons 110-100 and our fatigue is starting to show. Kevin King has 30 points, while Al Jefferson shows up Tim Mozgov with 18 points and 14 rebounds. Chuck Hayes has 11 rebounds in Mozgov’s absence.

Toronto Raptors 57-9

We monster the second place 76ers 117-79 to show that we still have it as DeMar DeRozan goes 12/13 for 30 points and Rajon Rondo has 2 points and 14 assists. Chris Paul is held to 4/16 shooting for 9 points and 5 assists.

Toronto Raptors 58-9

Another win, this time over the Lakers 105-91 as Kevin King tears away Ron Artest for 36 points, while Steve Nash has 8 points in 10 minutes. The Lakers’ top scorer was Kobe Bryant with 14.

Toronto Raptors 59-9

Well, all we can do is tie the record as we lose to Atlanta 97-90 behind Joe Johnson’s 33 points and Josh Smith who had 4 points, 10 assists, 7 rebounds and 5 blocks. Tim Mozgov tries his best with 23 points, 14 rebounds and 5 blocks but Rajon Rondo fouls out once again.

Toronto Raptors 59-10

We play the Hawks in Toronto and we whip them 100-89 behind Blake Griffin’s 31 points and 17 rebounds and not much else. He really did carry us on his shoulders. Rookie Ted Ballinger had 20 points while Joe Johnson had 22 points on 22 shots.

Toronto Raptors 60-10

Kevin King has 26 points and Kris Humphries has 11 rebounds as we win 106-98 over Golden State. Even though they shot 50% to our 44% we won because of our 20 free throw advantage. Their stars, Monta Ellis and Steph Curry, scored 10 points apiece which never helps.

Toronto Raptors 61-10

That’s three games in a row as we win against Memphis 103-96 behind Kevin King’s 30 points and Blake Griffin’s 20 points and 11 rebounds. Marc Gasol beats up Tim Mozgov for 28 points and 4 blocks but we shoot an astonishing 50 free throws, making 31 of them.

Toronto Raptors 62-10

Our last game for the month is a 123-96 drubbing at the hands of the Miami Heat. Dwayne Wade had 27 points but 10 turnovers while Chris Bosh had 22 points and 14 rebounds. DeMar DeRozan had the best of Lebron James with 20 points but didn’t get any help.

Toronto Raptors 62-11

That month was disappointing by our standards as we went 10-6 in the month and the record is out of our reach. I guess that is a good thing so we can now focus on winning our first championship. Philadelphia is still light years behind, meaning 8.5 games back and Orlando is 11.5 games behind us for third. Detroit is still last with a 20-52 record.

Portland has broken away from Utah and is now 1.5 games in front for first place, while Dallas is 4 games behind the Trailblazers. The Clippers have also beaten history as they are now 11-62.

Toronto Top Scorers – Kevin King (24.7), Blake Griffin (18.9), Tim Mozgov (14.2), DeMar DeRozan (12.6), Rajon Rondo (11.3)
Toronto Top Rebounders – Tim Mozgov (10.3), Blake Griffin (10.1), Kris Humphries (5.8), Kevin King (4.8)
Toronto Top Assisters – Rajon Rondo (10.5), Kevin King (4.8), Steve Nash (2.9)

League Top Scorers – Carmelo Anthony CLE (26.5), Kevin Durant OKC (26.3), Danny Granger IND (25.2), Kevin King TOR (24.7)
League Top Rebounders – Dwight Howard ORL (14.2), Andrew Bogut MIL (11.7), Amar’e Stoudemire NYK (11.5), Chris Kaman POR (11.2)
League Top Assisters – Rajon Rondo TOR (10.5), Chris Paul PHI (10.5), Derrick Rose CHI (9.9), Darren Collison IND (8.5)

Rookie Top Scorers – Marlon Zinn PHO (18.2), Ted Ballinger ATL (12.3), Zack Arthurs DEN (11.9), Travis Howard NOH (10.6)
Rookie Top Rebounders – Justin Cabrera LAC (11.1), Jordan Cole HOU (8.6), Marcus Mickens MIN (7.9), Claudio Carrera MEM (7.5)
Rookie Top Assisters – Clark Kimm CLE (6.6), Marlon Zinn PHO (6.5), Tony Rein BOS (5.7), Travis Howard NOH (3.8)

Fourth and last round of draft prospects (number in brackets previous rank):

1 (1) – PF Reggie Young (South Carolina) Freshman
Is now averaging nearly 30 points (31.0) and 20 rebounds (19.9) which is just unheard of. If he isn’t the number one pick then the team is picking the wrong player.

2 (3) – SG Jeff Brown (Texas A&M) Freshman
Is now filling into his body and learning how to play the game properly. Upped his numbers from 12 points, 3 assists and 4 rebounds to 17 points, 4 assists and 5 rebounds. Look out for Brown.

3 (2) – PF Scott Channing (North Carolina) Freshman
Drops not because of his poor play, but because Brown is playing fantastic.

4 (NR) – PF Darrell Holtz (Florida State) Sophomore
Similar in play to last month’s Joey Kouser put not quite as polished. Very, very skinny and will need to put bulk on to be effective in this league.

5 (NR) – C Dexter Floyd (Michigan State) Senior
Back into the top 5 with some great play but Archibald is still nipping at his heels. These two will be joined for their whole career because of this battle.

The highest ranked PG is at #24 which is ridiculous, so hopefully no-one really needs a PG badly *cough* Memphis *cough*.
