2019 Hornets

2019 Hornets

Postby OldSchool » Fri Dec 10, 2010 4:16 pm

Took over the Hornets as GM at the beginning of my game, and was faced with a tight-fisted owner and a heap of salary. Although it crushed me, the only way out that I could see was to trade off CP3. Ended up making a blockbuster trade with Chicago that brought us Derek Rose.

As time wore on that owner got replaced by a tremendously laid back owner with fat purse strings. We ended up building a team around the back court of DRose and Evan Turner, with fat Kevin Love at PF. While we put together some nice runs and got 1st seed in the west a few times, we only made one finals prior to 2019, losing to the Nets (in this universe DWade and Lebron went there instead of South Beach) as Lebron went crazy on Ronald Harringon (a solid SF we drafted who unfortunately has no D)

Anyway, 2019 comes around, we go 59-23, getting first seed in the West but getting taken to 7 games by the Clips in round one. Looked grim, but we ended up making the finals and the stage was set for DRose's Hornets vs CP3's Bulls, ultimately validating the huge trade from almost a decade earlier for one team or the other.

DRose and CP3 alternated dominating games pushing the series to 3-3, and then a 45 pt performance by Evan Turner in the final game won it for us! Good stuff, really enjoying the game.

e: Also pretty cool was getting head coach Shane Battier a ring in his first year :D

Battier, the new Phil Jackson, adds two more rings in 2021 and 2022.

2021 was a sweep of the Wizards. 2022 was a much more tense seven game series against the Sixers. Rose strained his calf in game six, and replacement starter Eric Bledsoe lit Philly up for 34 in the game 7 win.

This team has a real Spurs vibe, every year it seems we're over the hill (Rose is 35 and Turner 36 now coming into 2025), but they keep winning. 2023 and 2024 were both victories over the Wizards despite John Wall playing out of his mind.

Its now five championships in six years since Battier took over for Rudy T, with three of the victories coming over the Wiz (my real life favorite team)...looking like the Wizards might be the 90s Jazz of my universe.

I could really see Shane Battier ending up as a great coach. I think he'd prefer the college realm though.

Good dynasty, though the Bulls would never trade Rose for CP3.....Rose is dominating in my Bulls universe bringing a four-peat to my bulls.

Many thanks for the update.

Personally, I would never trade CP3 for Rose. While I rate Rose, he is a relatively low percentage high usage player and is more suited for the role of shooting guard. Like real-life, Rose is a combo guard, similar to Wade. Meanwhile, CP3 could raise an average offense to truly elite levels due to his lethal combination of low-turnover playmaking and high percentage shooting.
