Lighting up Las Vegas!

Lighting up Las Vegas!

June 20th, 2011
The NBA announced last week that it would be adding two new franchises and vowing that the total number of 32 would be the end of the leagues’ expansion efforts.

One team would return to Seattle, the biggest untamed market where fans saw their beloved team leave just years ago. The newly formed Sonics would play in the beautiful new Sonics Arena, a sparkling 20,000 seat arena on the grounds where Key Arena used to sit.

The other team – would be in Las Vegas.

It was an experiment many where not comfortable with, and the league warned the new owner and Las Vegas’ board that if problems arose, the NBA would have no issue forcing a relocation. But that’s where I come in.

My name is Leo Ridjugi. I’m the new general manager of the Las Vegas Aces, who will play in the Aces Arena as part of the Vegas strips newest high rise Casino. I see the entertainment capital of the world out there, certainly a distraction and a vice to many of the rich and famous athletes in this world. But this in an untapped market. No big league team will play here. I will make this world.

(A few notes –
1. I’m using a default file that my buddy made from the basic, updating player potential. I’ve also done extensive work on this file, so many players will not play as they would in the default game.
2. I’m using a 2011 draft file I made myself, which is available in the mod section.

I didn’t want to take on a bunch of huge contracts and ruin our future FA chances, so I took primarily young guys with a hope of building up after the 2011 Draft and 2012/2013 FA.

Post-Expansion Draft Roster
Code: Select all
6 Keith Bogans SG 6-5 215 31 Kentucky 8 $1,600,000
50 Emeka Okafor C 6-10 255 28 Connecticut 7 $12,541,812
21 Daniel Orton C 6-10 269 21 Kentucky 1 $1,105,560
19 Wayne Ellington SG 6-5 190 23 North Carolina 2 $1,154,040
7 Kyle Lowry PG 6-0 205 25 Villanova 5 $5,750,000
22 A.J. Price PG 6-2 190 24 Connecticut 2 $884,293
23 Byron Mullens C 7-0 260 22 Ohio State 2 $1,288,200
32 Renaldo Balkman PF 6-8 208 26 South Carolina 5 $1,675,000
9 Tony Allen SG 6-4 213 29 Oklahoma State 7 $3,150,000
12 Hakim Warrick PF 6-9 219 28 Syracuse 6 $4,320,000

We’ll start that by finding a coach who can both command the respect of players, has a history of taming wild guys and holds a strong winning percentage.

Rudy T, Jeff van Gundy, Mike Fertello all interview well, but there is one name that catches my eye. I have no idea why Rick Adelman doesn’t have a job. Houston apparently fired him after a decent season… But, good for us, since he’s a history of working with problem players and getting the best out of them with respect. That is what we need.

We sign Rick Adelman, 4 years 4 million a year, while Minnesota hires Mike Fratello, Seattle signs Jeff Van Gundy and Houston recovers by hiring local legend Rudy Tomjanovich. Two days later, we hire Kevin McHale as 1st assistant, Brent Barry as 2nd assistant, and T.R. Dunn as 3rd assistant.

The mock comes out and is listed as follows –
Code: Select all
1.   Toronto Raptors – PG Kyrie Irving
2.   Minnesota Timberwolves – SG Josh Selby
3.   Indiana Pacers – PF Derrick Williams
4.   Seattle Supersonics – SF Terrance Jones
5.   Las Vegas Aces – SF Harrison Barnes
6.   Washington Wizards – C Jonas Valanciunas
7.   Memphis Grizzlies – C Enes Kanter
8.   Detroit Pistons – C Donatas Motiejunas
9.   Charlotte Bobcats – SF Chris Singleton
10.   Philadelphia 76ers – SG Jordan Hamilton
11.   Phoenix Suns – C Lucas Nogueria
12.   Cleveland Cavaliers – PG Kemba Walker
13.   Los Angeles Clippers – PG Brandon Knight
14.   Golden State Warriors – C Mason Plumtree
15.   Houston Rockets – SF Jeff Taylor
16.   Sacramento Kings –PF John Henson

I really, REALLY wish we weren’t #5. The guy I want most is the projected #1 pick, Kyrie Irving, out of Duke. Why Josh Selby is #2 is out of here. Terrance Jones, Derrick Williams, Harrison Barnes all look solid but we’d need to work them out first.

But first is first. I want to find a star before the draft to anchor my team around. I call up teams, letting them know that our 2013 1st is available for a youngster with potential I like. If we suck by 2013, I’m out of here anyways with a pink slip. I need to find my star. And after about 29 calls, I find one.

Las Vegas trades –
2013 1st Round pick
Hakim Warrick
Byron Mullens
Wayne Ellington

New Jersey trades –
Derrick Favors

Why for us:
NJ gives up on Favors after a disappointing 6/6 rookie year, but I see untapped and unlimited potential. I’m risking a pick that’s only two years removed from a team starting at scratch, but as I said I realllllyyyy don’t think with an owner with low patience I’ll be here if we haven’t won decently in two years.

For NJ, they get a first, a viable PF in Warrick and two young guys.

Immediate effect – got a future PF, a decent win now center, and no talent at guard. So, there goes taking a PF… can basically cross out Derrick Williams, but Jones, Barnes, and Irving all still look promising.

Some of the guys – Singleton, Jordan Hamilton, Taylor are written off immediately. My staff recommends we look at Perry Jones, even with our bigs, so while we only invite a few bigs, we’ll try them out.

After workouts –
1. If we didn’t have Favors, Jones could be the pick. Guy shouldn’t go 20, as the mock has him.
2. Kyrie Irving is the best player by far, and I’d love to get him, but I doubt it could happen.
3. If we can’t get the #1 pick from Toronto, I’ll call up Minny, because Terrance Jones is pretty damn good and could play SF easily. He should go #2.
4. Josh Selby, Hamilton, Taylor shouldn’t be in the top 15.
5. John Henson (Mock 16), Brandon Knight (Mock 13), Tobias Harris (Mock 17), Jarred Sullinger (Mock 22) should all go in the top 10.

We so desperately need a PG that if Kyrie and Terrance Jones are gone, I’d trade down and discuss Kemba Walker or Brandon Knight. Both are shadows of Irving but they’re both gonna be solid NBA players.

June 29th, 2011

We have been unable to convince either Toronto or Minnesota to trade down with us. We’re pretty much set on trading down to get Knight or Walker.

1. Toronto Raptors – PG Kyrie Irving
The talking heads, of course, love the pick. I do too. The one legit star in this class.

2. Minnesota Timberwolves – SF Terrance Jones
Damn. Both my favorites off the board. I’m about to call up Charlotte or Philly when I get two calls – one from NY for a simple swap –

Las Vegas trades –
Daniel Orton

New York trades –
2011 1st Round Pick (#24)
Ronnie Turiaf

Why for us: We waste some cap, but and I’d rather have the first.

The second deal was actually proposed to us… well, let’s say it fixes our PG problem.

Las Vegas trades –
2011 1st Round Pick (#5)
AJ Price

Golden State trades –
Stephan Curry

Why for Us: I’m in shock at this deal, and not sure WHAT Golden State is thinking. We get a fantastic all around PG, better than any player we could get in the draft. Golden State must LOVE some guy and thought they needed to overpay…

But we’ve got our PG now! Stephan Curry is a perfect fit for Coach Rick’s offense. Only question is, who goes where?

3. Indiana Pacers – PF Derrick Williams
Smart pick! Williams gives the Pacers a PF threat to go with Danny Granger, Paul George and Darren Collison. Very set young team.

4. Seattle Supersonics – PF Perry Jones
Knew there was no way that Jones could fall to #20. Very, VERY nice pick.

Now, the moment of truth -

5. Golden State Warriors – Harrison Barnes
Well, now. A decent pick, a solid pick, a good young kid at a position they needed. But, giving up Curry? I’d rather have Curry than Barnes any day.

6. Washington Wizards – C Jonas Valanciunas
Too high in my book. Kid is solid, but not amazing. I’d have rather had Sullinger, Henson, or Knight/Walker.

7. Memphis Grizzlies – PG Kemba Walker
Memphis signals the failure of the Mike Conley selection and takes a somewhat local star.

8. Detroit Pistons – PF Christopher Phillips –
Holy COW. WHAT IS THIS PICK?! Who is this guy?! Our scouts are going crazy, we didn’t even scout him. Is he the biggest diamond in the rough, or a dumb dumb dumb selection?! The talking heads say he “slipped below their expectations” – considering he’s not in the 30 in your mock, how is that FALLING?

9. Charlotte Bobcats – C Enes Kanter
Bobcats looking for a big, but I’d have taken Sullinger if they wanted a scorer or Henson if they wanted a defender.

10. Philadelphia 76ers – PF John Henson
Finally, now I’ll shut up about him.

11. Phoenix Suns – PF Tobias Harris
Not Sullinger, but a very nice selection.

Next up is CELEVELAND! Are they gonna take the hometown hero and the guy I thought should have gone 7 picks ago?!

12. Cleveland Cavaliers – PF Jared Sullinger
It’s like a match made in heaven. The proud and bruised Cleveland fans get a new hometown hero to love.

13. Los Angeles Clippers – PF Jeremy Tyler
Tyler is talented but poor attitude and low work ethic.

14. Golden State Warriors – PG Brandon Knight
Well, this makes the deal way better for them in my estimation. They get Barnes as the star next to Monta Ellis and then fix he PG selection with the super underrated Knight. Went from a really questionable move to a semi-smart one.

15. Houston Rockets – SF Chris Singleton
Singleton is a decent defender, I think of him as a poor man’s Josh Smith.

16. Sacramento Kings – PF Marcus Morris
Well, they do need a PF next to DeMarcus Cousins but I’m honestly surprised they didn’t go with BYU PG Jemmer Fredette, a shooting/scorer PG who I think would be solid next to Tyreke Evans.

17. New Jersey Nets - C Mason Plumtree
Bout time he got picked, he fell hard. Solid player next to Brook Lopez.

18. Milwaukee Bucks – SG Josh Selby
From #2 projected to #18. Someone didn’t impress in workouts…

19. San Antonio Spurs – PF Jan Vesley
Another foreign prospect to the Spurs, and a decent one at that.

20. Oklahoma City Thunder – SG Jordan Hamilton
A good pickup here, but wouldn’t have been if he’d gone where the mock had him.

21. New Orleans Hornets - C Lucas Nogueria
Nice pickup, kid is a very solid defender and they draw in the Brazil crowd.

22. Atlanta Hawks – SF Kyle Singler
J.P is going nuts, saying Singler should have gone WAY earlier, but I viamently disagree and think he is a fine college kid with no NBA potential.

23. Chicago Bulls - PG Mickey McConnell
Interesting selection but one I like. Solid college kid with great intelligence and decent potential. But then, again… what is Jemmer Fredette still doing on the board?

It’s not even a question. We want BPA and he is the highest rated in our book.

24. Las Vegas Aces – PG Jemmer Fredette
Should have gone sooner than this. At least a very good 6th man. If he wasn’t 6/2 I could see him as Curry’s backcourt mate, but he is kinda too short for that.

25. Dallas Mavericks - C Donatas Motiejunas
Ouch. Hard fall for a decent prospect.

2nd Round picks by us- thanks to 2nd rounders forfeited to convince us to pick up guys in the Expansion draft – include SG Alec Burks (#33) and a bunch of scrubs who won’t make the team. The depth in this draft ended at #25.

Post draft, I call up some teams looking to swap out my second round talent and strike a deal with Sacramento:

Las Vegas trades –
Alec Burns
Eddie Howard
Marcus Davis

Saramento trades –
Omri Casspi

Why for us: In exchange for three worthless seconds, we get a decent SF. Not really a future star, but a good player.

Two deals that went down on draft day of note –

Nuggets trade PG Ty Lawson for Trailblazers SF Luke Babbitt (WOW. Fantastic for the Blazers).

Heat trade SG Eddie House for Celtics C Shaquille O'Neal (WOWZERS. I mean. What can you say?!)

Immediate post draft thought – WOW, Jimmer Fredette looks better than advertised! Then again, so do a lot of guys.

Toronto made a fantastic decision. Kyrie Irving is God.

Terrance Jones could be very well rounded, but he’s not gonna be a star in any one area.

Indiana made a great pick with Derrick Williams.

Harrison Barnes doesn’t look like the stud GS was expecting, but Brandon Knight should have apparently been a top 5 pick.

Detriot messed up hard with Christopher Phillips. Greg Monroe is far better and Phillips is nothing special - at ALL.

Cleveland is already lining up to crown Jared Sullinger the new King of Ohio.

We’ve got a MLE to use, and I’m gonna use it wisely… hopefully on a young SF/C who fits well with our established players. Gotta work that out.

Good start, I would have definitely done that Curry deal. Do you have someone in mind with the MLE?

What the hell? You got Curry off the Warriors?! I've been trying to do that in every single game of DDS:PB 2 I've played and never succeeded!

And the Jimmer is incredible.

I can always manage to get Curry. I honestly considered NOT doing it when it was OFFERED, only because I use him so much, lol

July 2nd, 2011

Fredette, Casspi and Favors all get their calls to head to the summer league, but thats it for our team so we actually have to worry about the rest of the roster.

One guy I’m VERY interested in as a potential long term man at center next to Favors is the much imporved DeAndre Jordan, so he gets my first nod.

Other invites include: SG Rudy Fernandez, SF Luc Richard Mbah a Moute, C Jerome Jordan, PG Sergio Llull, PF Mike Berrett, SF Victor Claver, SG Ryan Thompson..

We’re very light on players, so I could most definitely see guys playing their way onto this team. And if DeAndre plays well, he could be the future C next to Favors, if we can sign him. Rudy Fernandez plays a position we’re very ligh on, and he could get his way in. I really wanted Marcus Thornton in camp, or Landry Fields, but they had already signed in before I could get them.

Keys to 2011 Summer League:
1. Derrick Favors – is the potential I see incorrect, or can he truly dominate?
2. Jimmer Fredette – will his 27.6 PPG transfer over to the NBA well?
3. Is DeAndre Jordan a future stud at C?

July 5th, 2011 –Timberwolves @ Aces - Win 120-107
Holy cow! What a game for a summer league! DeAndre Jordan is the player of the game, scoring 18 points and eight boards with two blocks, while Favors has 17/8, Jimmer 16 and six assiss. Fernandez and Jordan both are very impressive.

The Puppydogs are led by 15/7 from Kevin Love, but for some reason, 2nd overall pick Terrance Jones gets a DNP – Coach’s Decision. Wow.

By the way – I know I keep talking about this guy, but Jared Sullinger had 22/12/3 debut in a summer league victory as the Cavs bested the Knicks. This guy could end up as the 2nd best player in this draft and he’s giving the diehard Cavs fans something to cheer for.

With our trade for Curry we have forever established a rivalry with the Warriors, so here’s the Warrior Watch - Harrison Barnes had 18/6, while Brandon Knight had 12/6 in their debuts.

July 6th, 2011 –Nuggets @ Aces - Win 133-109
8 players score in double figures, absolutely incredible. Favors led the way with 19/8/2, and DeAndre got 13/9/3. Jimmer had 15/7.

July 8th, 2011 – Warriors @ Aces - Win 122-98
Boy, was this satisfying! DeAndre is definitely getting a big offer from us. 22/10 on 10/11 shooting, while seven guys finished in double figures.

Harrison #5 Pick Barnes had 20 points but Brandon “I’m better than Curry” Knight had just 12/5.

July 12th, 2011 – Aces @ Bobcats - Win 127-103

A week off for practice does us a world of good as we slaughter the hapless cats. Favors simply dominates with 27/7/2, while Jimmer has 14 points and 13 assists. I’ve all but written out the MLE contract for DeAndre Jordan who had 23/9 and two blocks and fits fantastically with Favors.

DJ Augustin had 23/6 for the Cats, while first rounder Enes Kanter had 18/7.

July 15th, 2011 – Aces @ Bulls - Win 122-83

A perfect summer league gets me fired up for FA. DeAndre has 19/11/3, while holding Omer Asik, who had been averaging 20/8, to just 4 and 5 boards. I’m gonna throw everything and the kitchen sink to convince him to stay. Jimmer has 17/8 and looks like a serious steal at #24.

Summer League Notes:

Favors averaged 17.8, 7.2 and 1.8 for us while Jimmer averaged 13.6 points and a strong 8.2 assists, very impressive. DeAndre was the leader with 19.88 and 8.5 boards, while Rudy Fernandez made a strong case for a roster spot at 12.8 PPG.

Cavaliers future-star Jared Sullinger averaged 15.6 and 8.6, should have gone WAY before #13 but great for the Ohio fans.

Maybe I was wrong about Pistons big Christopher Phillips. I’d still have take Tobias Harris, Jared Sullinger or a few others over him even post SL, but he averaged 15.3 and 7.8 boards.

Golden State combo Harrison Barnes and Brandon Knight each averaged 13 points and 6 – Knight with 6 assists and Barnes with 6 boards. Still rather have Curry than either of them. Maybe even combined.

I wish we’d played Indiana – three 16 PPG scorers with Daren Collison, Paul George and Roy Hibbert. Meanwhile, #3 overall pick Derrick Williams struggled a bit with just 8/5.

Miami may have gotten a steal with late first Elias Harris, who averaged 20 PPG.

Terrance Jones didn’t play a minute in the summer league. Um, what Minnesota? What?

Suns’ guard Goran Dragic played fantastic, averaging 17 points and 6.2 assists. I could definitely see him as a strong fit next to Curry.

Our friends in Seattle have to be happy with Perry Jones. While I’d still have taken Jared Sullinger, Jones was impressive with 18.6 and 6.8.

Kyrie Irving is already Canada’s great hope, averaging 20.0 and 5.6 assists. Add DeMar DeRozan to my want list, with 13.8 PPG and an athletic slashing side that would be perfect next to Curry.

Oh, and John Wal is a beast. 20.5 and 7.2.

Our FA Want list:
1. DeAndre Jordan – We want him. Badly. His potential is huge and he’s proven himself to us.
2. Marcus Thornton – a solid slasher who would fit well next to Curry, but not MLE talent and he’s restricted so he’s likely no go.
3. Rudy Fernandez – Solid outside shooter and hopefully a tiny contract.
4. Landry Fields – 14PPG in summer league, a solid all around talent.
5. Shane Battier – likely out of our price range but a very solid veteran presence.

Others we’d like, but are unlikely to have the dough for – AKA the MLE won’t cut it include – Al Horford, Greg Oden, Marc Gasol, Kendrick Perkins

July 26th, 2011

Well, there goes our top hope. DeAndre turns down more money to stay in LA with the Clippers. We offered him max MLE, while he accepts 4 years and $27 – almost $10 million less – to stay with the Blakers. I’m very, VERY discouraged but I’ll try to recover with Marc Gasol.

Day later – Thornton signs with the Spurs for MLE. Damn. We sign a pair of former Saint Mary’s players – Patty Mills and Omar Samhan – to round out our depth. Both get two year minimums.

Two days later – And there goes Gasol back to Memphis.

No one left worth the MLE. Horford signed with Cleveland – a Sullinger/Horford big core will work wonders – Oden signed for more than the MLE, as did Perkins while they both stayed home.

A day later – Success! We have a few guys sign with us. First big name is Landry Fields, the SG who made a name for himself with super determined play last year for the Knicks. He signs for the 2 year LLE.

The next day, we agree to a two year min deal with both Tiny Gallon, a decent young big and veteran forward Grant Hill, who should be great for us as a leader.

And that’s how FA ends for us. Somewhat of a disappointment. Really missed out on DeAndre

September 4th, 2011

In an effort to keep costs to a minimum, we traded Ronny Turiaf and Keith Bogans to the Rockets for a 2nd rounder. They Rockets think they can compete with some veteran leadership while they just wasted space for us.

Post-Training Camp Thoughts

1. Favors is gonna be an absolute BEAST. I mean, BEAST.
2. Curry has far better passing skills than expected.
3. Jimmer is gonna be a fanastic scorer and a very very solid player – wish he was taller, but Coach Rick plans to play him at starting SG with Fields off the bench.

We’re down to 12 guys, so no DLeague players for us.

I agree with Coach Rick’s starting decisions. Fields is a better all around player, but Jimmer is a dynamic scorer and at worst we’re showing him off while looking for a better fit. Hill, veteran leader, should get the nod based on seniority over Fields and Casspi.

The 2011 Predictions guide has the league as follows –

West:
1. Utah Jazz (?)
2. Los Angeles Clippers (?!)
3. Los Angeles Lakers
4. Sacramento Kings
5. Denver Nuggets
6. Portland Trailblazers
7. Oklahoma City Thunder
8. Dallas Mavericks
East:
1. Miami Heat
2. New York Knicks
3. Chicago Bulls
4. New Jersey Nets
5. Orlando Magic
6. Boston Celtics
7. Cleveland Cavailers (?!)
8. New Orleans Hornets
With us as the 3rd worst in the conference. I figured as much – in fact, I’m actually HOPING for another top selection this year.

Notable Late October/November contests –

Oct. 31, 2011 – Blazers @ Aces – Win 119-109, (1-0)

Holy cow! A win to start our franchise and our franchise player – that Stephan Curry guy – scores 48 points, 9 assists and 6 boards in the win! Landry Fields scores 16 off the bench, while Favors has 15/5.

Brandon Roy scored 26 in the loss but couldn’t contain Curry, who shot 17/26, 7/11 from distance and 7/7 from the FT.

[u]Nov. 2, 2011 – Nuggets @ Aces – Loss 113-95, (1-1)

Well, the loosing starts. Three Nuggets drop 27 on us, led by Big Shot Chauncey’s 27/8. No one plays well for us.

Nov. 7, 2011 - Lakers @ Aces – Win 120-107, (2-2)

Holy cow (again!) Curry lights up the Lakers for 26/11/4, Grant Hill gets 21 and Favors 19/4! Kobe has just 15 points as we shoot 57% on the once dominant Lakers!

After the game, I’m told Omri Casspi and Patrick Mills got in an argument. Called them both and told them that wasn’t gonna fly here.

Coach has decided to bench Jimmer, start Hill at SG and Casspi at SF.

Nov. 20, 2011 - Grizzlies @ Aces – Win 126-90 (3-8)

Stops a 6 game loosing streak with a win over the hapless Grizzlies, with Favors and Fredette have 16 a piece.

Nov. 29, 2011 – Knicks @ Aces – Win, 125-111 (6-10)

Curry drops 32/10 on the Knicks as we end the month on a hot streak. Amare dominanted with 29/10 but our depth was just far too much.

Patrick Mills PG 1.6 0.4 0.0 0.1 0.0

We currently sit in 11th in the West, and I’m really thinking of trading down.

And, boy. Fredette is doing really, really good. Now is probably a good time to start looking for a real SG to take his place.

Scouts 2012 Draft Top 5:

1. PF Josh Tucker (Xiavier)

Averaging 29.6/15.5 for Xaiver. Too bad he’s at a position we don’t need.

2. PG Teddy Wilden (Mississippi State)

26.6 PPG and 8.8 assists. Very nice PG, but again, at our set position.

3. PF Quincy Lutz (Cal)
22.2/13.3 and tall enough to play center.
4. SG Kevin Colt (Florida)
League leading 29.9 PPG and a very solid dominating force who could play both SG/SF.
5. SF Shamel Hamilton (Florida State)
Well rounded 18/9/5.

Notable December contests –

Last month, scoring leader Kevin Durant won Player of the Month, while Kyrie Irving, averaging 15.8 and 5.4 for the Raptors, won Rookie of the Month.

We call up our conference buddies in Phoenix. They’re willing to dance, and we strike a risky bet -

Las Vegas trades –
2012 1st Rounder

Phoenix trades –
2012 1st Rounder

We’re 6-10. They’re 3-13. They think they’ll improve. We don’t, and we think we will.

Immediately afterwards, I start seeking a true SG in exchange for sharpshooting 12PPG Jimmer Fredette. Doesn’t take me too long –
Las Vegas trades –
Jimmer Fredette
Tiny Gallon

Toronto trades –
DeMar DeRozan

Why for us: Jimmer (12/5) is outplaying DeMar (10 on 45%) this year, but I think a outside shooter in Curry fits well with the slasher athletic DeMar. You’d think that Toronto would think that too, since they have dynamic shooter in Kyrie Irving. Alas, the struggles of DeMar to take over apparently ushered his exit from Toronto.

To get to 12 guys, we sign PF Jon Brockman.

Really excited about a slasher/deep shooter combo like Curry/DeRozan, and I’m thinking the only two positions left without a future for sure starter are now SF and C for us.

Dec. 2 2011 – Cavaliers @ Aces – Win 103-91, (7-10)

Coach Rick decides to play DeRozan off the bench for now, but he has 10 points in 15 minutes. Curry had 21/8 and Kyle Lowry takes off for 17 in the win. Al Horford had 18/20 boards for the Cavaliers, while fan favorite Jared Sullinger only played 9 minutes and is getting limited time his rookie year.

Dec. 5, 2011 – Aces @ Raptors – Loss 113-95, (7-12)

Kyrie Irving goes off on us for 21/7/5, including the game winner as we fall in Toronto. Fredette has 14 for the Raps off the bench, while DeRozan and Fields each drop 15 off the bench. Curry gets 21 and 14 assists.

Dec. 7, 2011 – Aces @ Warriors – Loss 113-102, (7-13)

Curry is held silent in his homecoming with just 14/5, while Monta Ellis drops 31/7 in the Warriors win.

Meanwhile, fifth overall pick Harison Barnes has been sent to the DLeague for the Warriors, while Brandon Knight is the default PG due to the lack of anyone else. Currently, even with this loss, we’re winning that deal.

Dec. 17, 2011 - Aces @ Bobcats – Win 126-90 (10-15)

Stops a bit of a slide and our future superstars are on fire. Curry lights up with 25/12 and Favors with 24/10. Charlotte is a really weak team, so.

DeRozan is quite the bench sparkplug – he hit 18 tonight and has capped 15 or more off the bench in 6 of his 10 games with us so far. Coach Rick likes the leadership of Hill and the energy off the bench from DeRozan and it doesn’t seem like the highflying youngster minds it.

Dec. 29, 2011 – Thunder @ Aces – Loss 115-113 (10-20)

Curry is shutdown and lit up by Russell Westbrook, who gets 37/10/5 in the win. Kevin Durant has 31, but the Thunder are kept from being a real contender by their lack of size. Favors had 28/14 proving that theory.
Ironic! The first DEAL of the year happens IMMEDIATELY after I wrote that, and… BOY. BOY.

Thunder Deal:
Jeff Green
Nenad Kristic
Alonzo Gee
Sergio Rodreguez

Spurs Deal:
Tim Duncan
Dejuan Blair

Winner: Um, what? DDSPB2 is messing with my head. STEAL for the Thunder, who just a minute after I was bashing their lack of bigs, GET a hall of famer and a very solid youngster.

Happy with our two deals. Phoniex is just 4-18, worst in the league, and DeRozan is really, really good.

Utah sits at first in the league at 24-3, with Orlando best in the East at 23-9.

Curry still in the top five in APG – bu #1 in TPG. Ugh.

Meanwhile, in rookieland:
1. Kyrie Irving – still God. 14.5/5.4 and showing everyday that he is Chris Paul 2.0.
2. Ricky Rubio – technically a rookie, getting 13.6 and 5.4 but getting outshined by the better Irving
3. Jimmer Fredette – 12.6 PPG for Toronto. Still like our deal.
4. John Henson – Called it. 11.6 and 8.7 as the best – or getting the most minutes, anyway – big in the draft.
5. Kemba Walker – fan favorite for Memphis with 11.3 PPG.

Scouts 2012 Draft Top 5:

1. PG Teddy Wilden (Mississippi State)

24.7 PPG and 8.6 make him the predicted favorite – for now.

2. PF Josh Tucker (Xiavier)

Still getting godly stats at 29.5 and 15.5, but scouts are beginning to question his work ethic.

3. PF Quincy Lutz (Cal)

If he stays as he is he may be my favorite since he’s big enough for center. 24.7, 14.4 but a low 1.1 blocks is a bit sad.

4. SG Kevin Colt (Florida)

Still a lights out scorer with 27.7 PPG.

5. C Bucky Abney (Louisville)

New to the list with potential that belies his low 12/7 stats.
