February 2016

The Wolves are sitting pretty at 35-22 at the end of February. McDermott again is having nagging injuries, but Pekovic has been playing the best he has all year to make up for McDermott's decreased performance.

The Timberwolves are 45-28 but currently only 5th in the Western Conference. To get home court advantage they will have to play extremely well in the coming months. The West is super competitive this year. The Lakers are back on top with the acquisition of MVP candidate Walter Johnson and Carlos Boozer.

The Timberwolves finished the season with a respectable 51-31 record. They however did not secure the 4th seed, instead the Nuggets got the 4th seed despite their identical record. It looks like the Timberwolves will face Carmelo Anthony and the Nuggets in the first round of the playoffs!

Playoffs Round 1 Matchups

Postby brutusbrutus » Sun Jun 12, 2011 5:50 pm

PG: Chris Beasley Vs. Ronald Sandler: Beasley is a 6'6" PG that can defend very well, he takes too many three point shots and isn't too much of a factor on offense. Ronald Sandler is an Amazing shot and a borderline star in the league. Sandler is the clear winner at PG.

Winner: Timberwolves

SG: Andre Iguodala Vs. David McDermott: McDermott is the better scorer, Iguodala is the better defender. Recently McDermott has had nagging injuries, but seems to be recovering.

Winnter: Draw

SF: Shang-de Teoh Vs. Carmelo Anthony: Anthony is the leading scorer in the league, Shand-de Teoh is a jack of all trades that is mostly known for his defense. Anthony is the clear winner here.

Winner: Nuggets

PF: Taj Gibson Vs. David West: West seems to be reaching the twilight of his career but he is a better overall player than Taj Gibson who is essentially a glue guy for the Nuggets.

Winner: Timberwolves

C: Nene Vs. Nikola Pekovic: Nene and Pekovic are very similar players that do the same things right, both score at an efficient rate and grab an average amount of rebounds for their position.

Winner: Draw

Results: This is anyone's game, without home court advantage I really think that the Timberwolves are the underdogs here.

Round 1

Postby brutusbrutus » Sun Jun 12, 2011 5:52 pm

Game 1(L): 114-83 This game as a complete disaster for the Timberwolves they lost by 21 and Pekovic was injured and will be for the rest of the series. Przybilla will have to face up against Nene, the Timberwolves are going to need an incredible performance from the hometown hero Przybilla to win this series. To make things more dramatic this may be Przybilla's last season in the NBA. Carmelo Anthony scored 38 points to win the game MVP.

Game 2(W): 107-92, The Wolves played a stellar defensive game. Anthony was held to 7-25 shooting and McDermott took over late scoring 29. Przybilla scored only 7 points but made up for it with stellar defense against Nene. This series is still in our grasp.

Game 3(W): 130-104, The Wolves did what they do best, score! They played a fast paced game and played very efficiently. Aaron Affalo scored 22 points in 22 minutes off the bench. In the end it was Ronald Sandler who had 29 points with 8 assists who won player of the game.

Game 4(W): 94-83, the T-Wolves and the Nuggets brought their best defensive games, McDermott led all scorers with 25, but the real hero of this game was Teoh who contained Anthony to an extremely inefficient 9-30 performance. Teoh also added a game high 13 rebounds to his 18 points.

Game 5(L): 115-87, Anthony made a statement scoring 39 points in this Route, Nene added 18 points and 14 rebounds. Most of the Timberwolves had very ugly shooting nights.

Game 6(W): 105-89, a knock down drag out fight for the win occurred, with Ronald Sandler taking over at just the right time, scoring 26 points with 6 assists.

The series MVP goes to David McDermott for scoring over 20 PPG the entire series, this however was really a team effort.

Round 2 Matchups

Postby brutusbrutus » Sun Jun 12, 2011 6:16 pm

The Timberwolves will face off against the Trailblazers in round 2.

PG: Ronald Sandler Vs. Rodney Stuckey: Stuckey is a penetrator and Sandler is a shooter, they put up similar numbers but overall Sandler's youth and defensive ability put him a shade above Stuckey.

Winner: Timberwovles

SG: Brandon Roy Vs. David McDermott: Another duo that puts up similar numbers, unfortunately Roy's superior defense puts the Timberwolves at a disadvantage.

Winner: Trailblazers

SF: Ron Sanders Vs. Shang-de Teoh: Unfortunately for Minnesota Ron Sanders has been a force to be reckoned with this year for the Trailblazers, he grabs over 7 rebounds a night at the SF position and he frequently scores more than 15 points a night. His defense isn't too bad either.

Winner: Trailblazers

PF: Pau Gasol Vs. David West: Even in his old age Pau Gasol is a good defender scorer and rebounder for his position. Again this matchup goes to the Trailblazers.

Winner: Trailblazers

C: LaMarcus Aldridge Vs. Nikola Pekovic:
Aldridge is a superior rebounder, Pekovic is a more efficient scorer, this matchup is probably a draw.

Winner: Draw

This will be a hard series for the Timberwolves to win, most experts agree Portland is the favorite here.

Round 2 Games

Postby brutusbrutus » Sun Jun 12, 2011 6:27 pm

Game 1(L): 101-82, this game was a defensive route by the Trailblazers, to add insult to injury David West was injured in the game Louis Scola will have to start for the remainder of the series. Scola has been more than a solid backup/6th man over the year, but this will be his biggest test as a pro in years.

Game 2(L): 115-89, the same formula worked again for the Trailblazers, their physical defense really got to the Wolves. The Timberwolves really hope that bringing the series home will help them pull out some wins.

Game 3(W): 107-98, it was the 4th quarter that decided the game the Trailblazers were shocked to be outscored in the quarter by 17 points. It was Pekovic that held the game close by scoring 27 on 12-13 shooting, but it was McDermott who scored 12 in the fourth, which was more than half of his total points. The T-Wolves hope this game will signal a change in the series momentum.

Game 4(L): 119-103, the Timberwolves are on the ropes, Brandon Roy is exploiting the matchup with McDermott to a tee, he scored 40 points to spoil the game for the T-Wolves. The Timberwolves need to win 3 games in a row to win the series.

Game 5(W): 110-102: The Timberwolves showed great heart and stayed alive for another game Louis Scola was the unlikely hero scoring 18 points and grabbing 11 rebounds in the victory.

Game 6(L): 102-99: The Timberwolves ended the season in the worst possible way, losing in the playoffs at home in a close game that they controlled until the 4th quarter. Shang-de Teoh scored 30 but it wasn't enough in the end the team fell to the Trailblazers.

The Rest of the Playoffs

Postby brutusbrutus » Sun Jun 12, 2011 6:29 pm

The Trailblazers were defeated by the Hornets and the Hornets went on to face Miami. Chris Paul's championship remains elusive as Miami who went 71-11 during the season dominated the Hornets to take their 4th NBA championship in 6 years.
