Draft Night is finally here....

#1 - Phoenix - Alan Bradley SF - 6'7", 229 lbs from Depaul. Great rebounder at the SF position. Can score inside or out. Passing is sub par but other than that, this guy should be an all star for years to come. Work ethic is so so.

#2 - Las Vegas - Mitchell Boswell SG - 6'6", 223 lbs from Syracuse. Will be a consistent scorer on the NBA level. Free throw shooting is suspect. Lock down defender, could make the all Defensive team in time. Gym rat who rebounds very well for a SG.

TRADE

Cleveland sends PG Ramon Sessions & Daniel Gibson to Houston for Luis Scola

#3 - Memphis - Darius Lay PF - 6'11", 227 lbs from Georgetown. Great inside scorer who will put up his fair amount of shots. Very productive on the offensive and defensive glass. Not a great defender and would rather lift a tv remote than a barbell.

#4 - Washington - Bob Williams PG - 6'1", 180 lbs from California. Was shocked to see him go this high personally. Lacks defensive presence on the floor. Decent rebounder. Will have great assists/TO numbers.

#5 - Charlotte - Herman Zamoyski SF - 6'6", 224 lbs from Poland. Great range, all the way to the 3. Free throw shooting must improve. Not going to get you many steals or blocks.

#6 - Detroit - Ben Micheals C - 6'9", 256 lbs from Utah. This pick to me is not going to pan out. I could be wrong but he doesn't do anything that well. Undersized center who will be pushed around and not going to stop anyone defensively. Add to all of this that the guy is lazy...good luck Detroit with this pick.

#7 - Minnesota - Kurt Wooley SG - 6'6", 185 lbs from Kansas. Deadly 3 point shooter. This guy has ice water in his veins. Was considering this guy if I had ended up staying at 8 before the lottery. Defensive liability.

#8 - Washington - Greg Greer SG - 6'7", 190 lbs from Brown. Great outside shooter. May witn NBA Long Distance Shootout one day. Does not pick up many steals.

#9 - Cleveland - Ryan Jones PF - 6'10", 252 lbs from LSU. Does not appear to have the game to be a real offensive threat on the pro level. Does not get many offensive rebounds or block shots well.

#10 - New Jersey - Edmund Reed SF - 6'7", 232 lbs from North Carolina State. Decent scorer all over the floor. Solid free throw shooter.

#11 - Houston - Steven Rogers SF

#12 - Milwaukee - Quintin Lockhart PG

#13 - Indiana - Devin Hays SG

#14 - Columbus - Ziven Grishuk PG

#15 - Oklahoma City - Anthony Ford C

#16 - Sacramento - J.T. Trotti SG

#17 - Atlanta - Brian Samnick C

#18 - Atlanta - Aaron Head PG

#19 - Dallas - Ryan Crispin C

#20 - New Orleans - Kurt Whiteman SG

#21 - San Antonio - Brooks Lee PG

#22 - Los Angeles Clippers - Isaac House SF

#23 - New York - Aaron Hansen SF

#24 - Golden State - Donovan Simmons PF

#25 - Utah - Russell Dove SG

#26 - Orlando - Zach Johnson PF

#27 - Denver - Drew Marshall PG

#28 - Denver - Eric Hazelton PG

#29 - Portland - Dennis Lockwood PF

#30 - Chicago - Ronald Gravitt PG

#31 - Los Angeles Lakers - Greedy Gresham PF

#32 - Miami - Jeramy Richardson PF

Will enter in trades and my picks for the rest of the draft.

TRADE

Detroit sends PG Will Bynum & PF Jason Maxiell to Washington for PF Lamar Odom.

Las Vegas selects - Bernard Pearson SF - 6'7", 214 lbs from Mississippi. Can play great defense. Work ethic is through the roof, should be seeing minutes off the bench.

TRADE

Phoenix sends SG Jordan Hamilton & SG Tony Allen to Charlotte for Gerald Wallace

Las Vegas selects - Dennis Bennett SG - 6'8", 208 lbs from Kansas State. Great NBA 3 point range. Should see some time coming off the bench. Possibly spend some time in the D league based on Free Agency.

TRADE

Utah sends SG Raja Bell to Houston for SF Peja Stojakovic

That wraps up the draft. I'm pretty happy with my selections for the Aces, now we have a TON of work to do in FA.
Not sure how the ownership is going to feel about this constant re-vamping of the roster. This needs to be a year where I make some smart moves and keep some people around. My current roster consists of...

SG - Mitchell Boswell - this year's 1st round pick
SG - Dennis Bennett - one of this year's 2nd round picks
SF - Bernard Pearson - one of this year's 2nd round picks
C - Enes Kanter - last year's 1st round pick

Time for summer camp...

Sending all 3 draft picks from this year but keeping Kanter at home.

Here is the Summer League Roster

SG - Mitchell Boswell
SG - Dennis Bennett
SF - Bernard Pearson
PF - Jarvis Vanrardo
C - Solomon Alabi
PG - Gary Neal
SF - Jonas Jerebko
PG - Tyrese Rice
C - Paulo Prestes
PF - Kevin Seraphin
C - Hasheem Thabeet
PF - Matt Strong

Summer League Play

7/4/12 - Miami @ Las Vegas - Las Vegas 106 - Miami 93. Great first game for Boswell as he connects on 10 of 19 shooting for 21 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals for player of the game honors. Other notables include Gary Neal with 6 points and 8 assists as well as Kevin Seraphin with 16, Solomon Alabi with 15 and Paulo Prestes with 14. Only real bright spot for the Heat is Nolan Smith dropping 23 on us.

7/6/12 - Las Vegas @ Chicago - Las Vegas 98 - Chicago 90. Boswell once again shines in his 2nd outing. He scores 21 on 10 of 16 shooting with 9 rebounds as well. Easily earns him the player of the game award. Gary Neal makes the most of his time with 10 points and 6 assists. Kevin Seraphin once again has a good game with 15 points and 6 rebounds. DeJuan Blair plays well for Chicago with 18 points and 13 rebounds.

7/13/12 - Las Vegas @ Phoenix - The battle of the #1 & #2 picks. The 1st round goes to Las Vegas with a 89 - 82 win. Boswell puts his stamp on the game going for 30 points on 13 of 24 shooting. He also adds 5 rebounds and 2 blocks. Number 1 pick Alan Bradley has 9 points and 8 rebounds in the loss.

7/14/12 - Las Vegas @ Oklahoma City - Oklahoma City 112 - Las Vegas 110 in OT. 9 of 20 shooting nets Boswell 22 points as well as 6 rebounds, 6 assists, 3 steals and a block. James Harden dominates with a 36 point night to beat Las Vegas in Oklahoma.

7/15/12 - Denver @ Las Vegas - Denver 107 - Las Vegas 98 - Boswell goes 7 for 17 to finish with 19 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists and 1 steal...not to mention 5 turnovers. Ty Lawson scores 21 for the Nuggets.

7/16/12 - Free Agency

Will need to build this team to stay together for a bit this year. Keeping my fingers crossed as to who will be on the market.

This gives the Aces 11 people under contract. Need to pick up a pg/sg combo type player either via a trade or in free agency.

We sign Manny Harris a 6'5", 185 lb SG from Michigan. Has good range, ball handling and can play solid D.

Training camp moves forward and we are prepared for the 2012-2013 season.

Here are the top 5 rankings by conference.

Western Conference
1. Golden State
2. Sacramento
3. Los Angeles Lakers
4. Oklahoma City
5. Utah

We come in ranked as 15 out of 16. If we finish that bad, I need to be fired.

Eastern Conference
1. Miami
2. Philadelphia
3. Chicago
4. Indiana
5. New Orleans

Halloween Night is here and the Aces open on the road in Utah. Picked as the 5th seed in the West this should be a challenge.

10/31/12 - Las Vegas (0-0) @ Utah (0-0) - Utah 96 - Las Vegas 87. The loss for the Aces comes with both teams shooting under 40% from the floor. Enes Kanter has a monster game for the Aces with 25 points, 6 assists, 23 rebounds, 6 blocks and 2 steals. Earning player of the game honors in the loss. Derrick Rose has 26 in his Aces debut and rookie Mitchell Boswell has 10 points to go along with 8 rebounds and 5 assists. Kevin Garnett thinks he is still a top 5 player putting up 18 shots and making 3 of them! Mehmet Okur leads the way for Utah with 15 points. Al Jefferson also contributes with 11 points and 15 rebounds.

11/1/12 - Los Angeles Clippers (0-1) @ Las Vegas (0-1) - Las Vegas 117 - Clippers 71. Was a tale of two teams tonight. The Aces shoot 55.4% from the floor while the Clippers would have lost to a girls junior varsity team shooting a pathetic 29.7%. Derrick Rose goes off for 40 points on 15 of 23 shooting. He also dishes out 6 assists and grabs 8 rebounds to earn player of the game honors. Enes Kanter scores 18 with 11 boards and Mitchell Boswell scores 14. Baron Davis scores 18 and Chris Kaman gets 13 points and 11 rebounds.

11/2/12 - Golden State (0-0) @ Las Vegas (1-1) - Golden State 93 - Las Vegas 90. Golden State is predicted to be the #1 seed in the West and they showed they mean business by outscoring the Aces 22-16 in the 4th quarter. Monta Ellis paces the Warriors with 25 points earning player of the game honors. Rookie Mitchell Boswell drops 25 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists, 4 steals and 3 blocks for a great night. Enes Kanter also scores in double figures with 14 points and 14 rebounds.

11/4/12 - Las Vegas (1-2) @ Boston (1-0) - Las Vegas 116 - Boston 99. KJ's return to Boston nets a win for the Aces. Garnett has a decent game with 13 points and 6 rebounds. It is the Aces backcourt of Rose and Boswell to be marveled at. Derrick Rose scores 34 points with 6 rebounds and 9 assists earning him player of the game honors. His rookie teammate puts up 30 himself with 3 steals. Kanter continues to be a double double machine with 16 points and 10 rebounds.

11/6/12 - Minnesota (0-2) @ Las Vegas (2-2) - Las Vegas 102 - Minnesota 79. Enes Kanter leads the way in holding Minnesota to 33.3% shooting. Kanter earns the player of the game after scoring 20 points, gathering 15 rebounds and blocking 4 shots. Derrick Rose leads the way with 23 points and 6 assists while Mitchell Boswell adds 15. The only bright spot for Minnesota is Kevin Love with 14 points and 10 rebounds.

11/9/12 - Las Vegas (3-2) @ Milwaukee (4-2) - Las Vegas 108 - Milwaukee 85. Derrick Rose leads the way with 28 points, 10 assists, 6 rebounds and 2 steals. Kanter has 11 points, 13 rebounds and 5 blocks. Stellar play continues from Ace's rookie Boswell as he scores 20 points. Andrew Bogut has 16 points and 12 boards for the Bucks. Jennings struggles against Rose going 3 for 14 from the floor and scoring 9 points with 4 turnovers.
11/17/12 - Las Vegas (4-2) @ Indiana (6-3) - Las Vegas 114 - Indiana 112. Las Vegas wins a nail biter against the Pacers. Derrick Rose comes up huge with 36 points and 12 assists. Kanter once again has a great night with 12 points, 12 rebounds and 5 blocks. Boswell contributes 15 points in a great win on the road. Danny Granger did all he could do to keep the Pacers in it with 34 points and going a perfect 12 for 12 from the charity stripe.

TRADE

Las Vegas trades it's 2013 1st round pick to Minnesota for it's 2013 1st round pick. Sometimes you have to love the hype around magazine articles. Minnesota feeling they were picked as the 11th best team in the West parts ways easily with Las Vegas for a swap of 1st round picks since Las Vegas was seen as the 15th best. Thanks Minnesota!

11/18/12 - Las Vegas (5-2) @ Philadelphia (5-2) - Las Vegas 94 - Philadelphia 72. Rookie Mitchell Boswell puts on a performance with 20 points, 3 assists, 12 rebounds, 4 blocks and 2 steals while giving Evan Turner fits by holding him to 2 of 13 shooting. Garnett finally contributes with 21 points on 9 of 12 shooting. Mike Bibby and Reggie Williams both have 13 for the 76ers who are held to 34.2% shooting.

11/19/12 - Detroit (5-5) @ Las Vegas (6-2) - Las Vegas 104 - Detroit 92. All 5 starters for the Ace's score in double figures. Derrick Rose has an outstanding game scoring 28 points, 11 assists, 7 rebounds, 1 block and 2 steals to be named player of the game. Boswell lights it up for 23 points and 7 rebounds. Kanter scores 13 with 10 rebounds and 3 blocks. Ben Gordon comes off the bench for the Pistons to score 20. Lamar Odom scores only 8 points but does grab 15 rebounds, 8 of them offensive.

11/20/12 - Boston (2-4) @ Las Vegas (7-2) - Las Vegas 110 - Boston 106. Mitchell Boswell is starting to become a great defensive player for the Ace's as a rookie. He is the player of the game with 18 points, 2 assists, 4 rebounds, 4 blocks and 3 steals. KG and Rose both contribute with 20 points each. Nene and Kendrick Perkins also contribute 20 apiece for the Celtics.

11/21/12 - Las Vegas (8-2) @ Portland (7-1) - Portland 112 - Las Vegas 95. After taking a 1 point lead after the 1st quarter the Aces are outscored 30 - 23 in the 2nd quarter and can never come back. Portland is DEEP! They have 8 players score in double figures with Brandon Roy leading the way with 16 points, 12 assists and 4 rebounds. Greg Oden has a solid game with 10 points, 11 rebounds and 4 blocks. Las Vegas has Derrick Rose with 24 points and little used Bernard Pearson off the bench scores 21.

11/22/12 - Phoenix (4-4) @ Las Vegas (8-3) - Las Vegas 103 - Phoenix 99. Phoenix has us down by 6 entering the 4th quarter before we take over outscoring them 28 - 18. Derrick Rose comes up big with 36 points, 11 assists and 4 rebounds. Kanter has 12 points to go along with 7 rebounds and 5 blocks. Overall number 1 pick Alan Bradley goes for 10 points with 7 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 blocks.

11/24/12 - Las Vegas (9-3) @ Golden State (9-2) - Golden State 109 - Las Vegas 93. All of Golden State's starters score 16 or more as the Warriors shoot 50.0% from the floor. Stephen Curry leads the way with 23 points, 6 assists, 4 rebounds, 1 block 2 steals for player of the game honors. Ekpe Udoh also has a great game with 16 points, 10 rebounds and 5 blocks. Only 2 Ace's get into double digits with Derrick Rose scoring 26 with 6 assists and Kanter scoring 15 and 16 rebounds to go along with 2 blocks. Boswell struggles only taking 7 shots to total 8 points but does snag 4 steals.

11/25/12 - Las Vegas (9-4) @ Phoenix (4-5) - Las Vegas 100 - Phoenix 88. KG must have drank from the fountain of youth as he goes 13 from 19 to score 28 points to earn player of the game honors. Derrick Rose pours in 25 to go along with 7 assists. Alan Bradley the overall #1 pick paces the Suns with 19 points and 5 rebounds.

11/27/12 - Las Vegas (10-4) @ Houston (2-9) - Las Vegas 102 - Houston 94. On the flight over from Phoenix I pull Enes Kanter aside and tell him he needs to post up more. I explain that in my opinion he is one of the most dominant big men I have seen play in the post. Kanter responds with going 9 for 12 and scoring 24 points to go along with 14 rebounds, 6 assists, 3 steals and a block. Derrick Rose puts up 32 points to help with the effort. Yao Ming does all he can with 28 points and 15 rebounds but that can't save the Rockets. Jimmer mania is alive in Houston though as he goes for 10 points along with 6 assists, he does foul out in 22 minutes of play as well.

11/29/12 - Oklahoma City (9-9) @ Las Vegas (11-4) - Las Vegas 102 - Oklahoma City 79. Another stellar defensive performance by the Aces. All-Star Kevin Durant is held to 3 of 14 shooting to notch 15 points for the game. Derrick Rose is your player of the game with 27 points, 7 assists and 3 rebounds. Kanter scores only 4 points but has 11 rebounds and 3 blocks. Mitchell Boswell has a great game across the board with 13 points, 8 rebounds, 2 assists, 4 steals and 4 blocks.

Everything is looking amazing as we head into December. Sitting at 12-4 after being picked to be 15th in the conference is a great feeling. I sit back at my desk and my secretary tells me I have a call on line 1. I answer and it is Jeremy Lin complaining about the staff. Yes, that Jeremy Lin, the guy who plays 14 minutes a game while scoring 3.3 points and handing out 2.6 assists. I let him vent then tell him to calm down a bit. He tells me I should think about it being other people. You have found your way to the trade block my friend, once I'm allowed to move you!

January rolls around and Rudy Tomjanovich and I are invited to dinner with Mr. Adelson to talk about the state of the team and our goals for the rest of the season.

"I was thinking back Jeff to last year at this time" Mr. Adelson begins. "It seems I was very concerned at that time. We were 10-20 and you had won a contest to be the GM for the Aces. Now, only a year later we sit atop the Northwest Division with a 24-7 record. With the shrewd acquisitions you have made, we are a contender in only our second year of existence."

"Well sir, I do thank you but without coach Tomjanovich's input with the drafts as well as amazing luck with minor injuries we would not be where we are." I replied.

"Coach Tomjanovich, how would you evaluate the team?" Mr. Adelson asked.

"To be honest sir, we have a good core right now. I believe we are one of the best defensive teams in the league. We are third in the league in points allowed at 94.5 as well as third in opponents field goal percent allowed at 0.424%" Coach Tomjanovich replied.

"Jeff, you are happy with the current moves in the off-season and where the roster sits?" Mr. Adelson asked.

"Well sir, to be honest I will be exploring a few moves when the time comes. I believe that while Jeremy Lin does contribute on the court, his off court run ins with the staff are something to be watched. I think we have a great core but we cannot just sit back and watch other teams improve. If the right move is there, I will make it." I said honestly.

"Well Jeff, you have proven to the ownership group that you know what you are doing so we will leave that to you. Gentlemen, thank you for your commitment to the Ace's organization and we look forward to the rest of the season and for the winning to continue!"

Love how you don't have pressure directly placed on you, just indirectly!

1/2/13 - Las Vegas (24-7) @ Atlanta (14-16) - Las Vegas 113 - Atlanta 95. The backcourt of Rose and Boswell dominate this game. Derrick Rose earns player of the game honors with 28 points, 11 assists and 5 rebounds. Meanwhile, teammate Mitchell Boswell has 23 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 steal and 1 block. Enes Kanter has 11 points and 13 rebounds. Joe Johnson takes it to rookie Boswell with a 27 point outburst but other than him, the Hawks are flat. PG Carlos Arroyo struggles with foul trouble all game only playing 12 minutes and drawing 5 fouls while guarding Derrick Rose.

1/3/13 - Columbus (12-15) @ Las Vegas (25-7) - Columbus 107 - Las Vegas 97. The Cats pull the upset, coming into Las Vegas and beating the Aces. Raymond Felton leads the way missing a triple double by 2 rebounds. He is your player of the game with 21 points, 10 assists and 8 rebounds. Brendan Haywood has a great night at the center position scoring 18 points and pulling down 19 rebounds. Mitchell Boswell leads the way for the Aces with 15 points and 2 steals while Enes Kanter scores 14 with 12 rebounds. This game looked to be a blowout with the Cats up by 33 in the 2nd but the Aces fought hard, just not hard enough.

Rookie guard Mitchell Boswell does a great job on Evan Turner causing him to go 4 for 20 from the field. Your player of the game is Derrick Rose with 24 points, 11 assists, 3 rebounds and 2 steals. Enes Kanter has a solid game with 19 points and 15 rebounds. For the 76ers, Al Horford has a nice game with 15 points, 16 rebounds and 4 blocks.

1/6/13 - Las Vegas (26-8) @ Utah (19-14) - Las Vegas 104 - Utah 99. Derrick Rose scores 34 points and adds 8 assists to be named player of the game. Enes Kanter adds 26 points and 15 rebounds not to mention 4 steals to help with the win. Al Jefferson leads the way for Utah with 21 points and 7 rebounds. The Jazz have a deep bench, the Aces were lucky to go into Salt Lake City and steal this win.

Should have known this wouldn't last. Even though Jeremy Lin said he was going to chill out...here he is crying again over the staff. This guy needs to grow some thicker skin. How much longer till I can put him on the block?

1/8/13 - Las Vegas (27-8) @ Detroit (15-22) - Las Vegas 95 - Detroit 85. Great game by Enes Kanter with 15 points, 21 rebounds and 6 blocks to earn player of the game honors. Derrick Rose had 23 points and 8 assists but did turn the ball over 7 times. Second year forward Jan Vesley leads the Pistons with 15 points. How Detroit has won 15 games with their roster is amazing.

1/9/13 - Las Vegas (28-8) @ Sacramento (20-11) - Sacramento 101 - Las Vegas 91.
