Playoff time!

#1 Las Vegas (61-21) VS. #8 Denver (46-36)

PG - Derrick Rose - 24.4 ppg, 4.0 rpg, 8.5 apg, 1.0 spg and 0.2 bpg
VS.
PG - Ty Lawson - 13.2 ppg, 2.7 rpg, 5.1 apg, 0.8 spg and 0.0 bpg

The Aces should win this matchup easily. Look for Rose to have a good series. Ty Lawson does play great defense so if somehow Denver can slow Rose down, it could lead to difficulties for the Aces.

Advantage - Las Vegas

SG - Mitchell Boswell - 16.4 ppg, 4.7 rpg, 3.1 apg, 2.1 spg and 0.9 bpg
VS.
SG - J.R. Smith - 12.4 ppg, 2.5 rpg, 2.0 apg, 1.2 spg and 0.2 bpg

The Ace's rookie of the year (he better be after winning every rookie of the month award) Boswell should have a great series considering J.R. Smith is not the best defender. On the other side, look for Boswell to really trouble J.R. Smith and hold him under his average in this series. I really don't see how Denver can do much to slow down Boswell unless someone else guards him.

Advantage - Las Vegas

SF - Bernard Pearson - 5.8 ppg, 2.9 rpg, 1.8 apg, 0.8 spg and 0.4 bpg
VS.
SF - Carmelo Anthony - 26.2 ppg, 6.5 rpg, 2.6 apg, 1.4 spg and 0.3 bpg

This matchup with have Las Vegas crying uncle in about 2 minutes of play. Look for Pearson to have huge issues with Melo. Even though Pearson is a great defender, he is a rookie in his first playoff series going up against one of the superstars of the NBA. Da'Sean Butler should see more minutes at SF then Bernard but that will still not be enough.

Advantage - Denver

PF - Kevin Garnett - 13.8 ppg, 5.9 rpg, 1.5 apg, 1.0 spg and 0.9 bpg
VS.
PF - Al Harrington - 11.1 ppg, 5.4 rpg, 1.8 apg, 1.0 spg and 0.3 bpg

This matchup could help decide this series. Both players are very evenly matched and neither one has a real advantage. I see this as a wash but if one person decides to rise up to the challenge it can tilt this series.

Advantage - Draw

C - Enes Kanter - 13.8 ppg, 12.2 rpg, 2.0 apg, 0.9 spg and 2.4 bpg
VS.
C - Kenyon Martin - 6.9 ppg, 8.7 rpg, 1.4 apg, 1.0 spg and 0.9 bpg

This should be a matchup that Las Vegas can take advantage of. Kanter should have some huge rebounding numbers this series. Kenyon Martin is in the twilight of his career while Kanter is not even at his prime. Kenyon could surprise everyone and put up a fight here but don't hold your breath.

Advantage - Las Vegas

Bench

Las Vegas - Da'Sean Butler, Paulo Prestes, Jerome Randle and Kevin Seraphin are the big contributers for Las Vegas.
VS.
Denver - Hedo Turkoglu, Josh Howard, Chris Andersen and Drew Marshall are the key bench players for Denver.

Denver has more experience and more points coming off the bench. Las Vegas has better defense and rebounding. In my opinion, Denver has the better bench and should outscore the Aces.

Advantage - Denver

Series - While Denver has some battles they should win, Las Vegas will win the war. The only chance I see Denver having (barring an injury to a star) is for Las Vegas to get into foul trouble.

Prediction - Las Vegas in 5.

Game 1 - 4/21/13 - Denver (0) @ Las Vegas (0) - Las Vegas 100 - Denver 85. Denver showed they had been in the playoffs before by taking a 23 -18 lead after the 1st period. At the half the still had the lead 43 - 41. Coach Tomjanovich tore into the Aces at halftime and it showed as they went on to outscore Denver in the 3rd and 4th periods 59 - 42. Derrick Rose had a great game scoring 29 points and handing out 7 assists. Kevin Garnett decided to show up and had 17 points while Enes Kanter had 15 points, 13 rebounds and 3 blocks. Carmelo had a double, double with 28 points and 10 rebounds. J.R. Smith struggled, shooting 4 of 12 from the floor as Boswell plays great defense.

Game 2 - 4/22/13 - Denver (0) @ Las Vegas (1) - Las Vegas 104 - Denver 89. Well it took one playoff game to get the Aces to understand you have to come out strong at home. The Aces are up 33 - 26 after 1 period. The Nuggets close within 1 at half trailing by a score of 54 - 53. The third period sees the Aces outscore the Nuggets 26 -19 and there is no looking back. Derrick Rose again comes up big with 21 points and 7 assists. Enes Kanter does a good job in the middle with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Mitchell Boswell while scoring 20 points once again does a stellar defensive job on J.R. Smith holding him to 1 of 7 shooting for a total of 3 points. Carmelo has 31 points and goes to the free throw line 20 times! The entire Ace's roster goes to the free throw line 20 times in this game! Where is the home court calls ref?????

The Aces board the plane and get ready to head to Denver. The fans believe in us and are looking for us to come back with a sweep. I'm much more realistic and think if we can get one game in Denver, I will be happy.

Game 3 - 4/24/13 - Las Vegas (2) @ Denver (0) - Denver 85 - Las Vegas 83. What a loss...by a basket. Carmelo had 29 points and 6 rebounds to help the Nuggets get a win in this series. Kenyon Martin had 11 rebounds and Hedo Turkoglu comes up with 8 rebounds! How does that happen????? Derrick Rose leads the way with 16 for the Aces. Enes Kanter has 14 points, 13 rebounds and 6 blocks. The Aces shoot under 40%, only hitting 38.3% of their field goals.

Game 4 - 4/25/13 - Las Vegas (2) @ Denver (1) - Las Vegas 86 - Denver 85. Denver is down 70 - 62 going into the 4th period and go on a run but come up a shot short. Mitchell Boswell is the player of the game with 16 points, 5 assists, 9 rebounds, 2 blocks and 2 steals. Kanter only scores 7 points but has 15 rebounds and 5 blocks. Carmelo keeps Denver in it with 24 points and 10 rebounds and we have a Al Harrington sighting as he puts up 23 points and 9 rebounds. Denver now heads to Las Vegas facing elimination.

Game 5 - 4/27/13 - Denver (1) @ Las Vegas (3) - Las Vegas 108 - Denver 105. Close for the Nuggets who turn a 58 - 47 defecit into a near win. Derrick Rose is too much for the Nuggets as he scores 28 points and hands out 7 assists. Enes Kanter dominates inside and puts up 25 points and gathers 9 rebounds. The Nuggets once again have Melo lighting it up for 28 points. Melo just signed a max deal with the Nuggets this season so I am sure they will be looking to build for the future around him.

East

Chicago over New York 4-1
New Orleans upsets Philadelphia 4-3
Orlando over Indiana 4-1
Boston over Miami 4-1 (no Wade, no Bosh...James couldn't do it all)

West

Las Vegas over Denver 4-1
Portland sweeps Golden State 4-0
Oklahoma City upsets Sacramento 4-1
LA Lakers over Utah 4-2
Well the good news is I will not have to face Sacramento who had my number all season. The bad news is we now face Portland who next to Sacramento was a huge matchup problem all season.

EAST

#1 Chicago VS. #5 New Orleans
#2 Boston VS. #3 Orlando

WEST

#2 LA Lakers VS. #6 Oklahoma City

and

#1 Las Vegas (61-21) VS. #4 Portland (55-27)

Playoff Stats

PG - Derrick Rose - 21.6 ppg, 4.6 rpg, 6.6 apg, 0.8 spg and 0.0 bpg
VS.
PG - Brandon Roy - 25.3 ppg, 3.3 rpg, 7.3 apg, 0.3 spg and 0.0 bpg

This was a matchup that in the regular season we won. In the playoffs though Brandon Roy has been on fire. He is averaging more points and even more assists than Rose. Both point guards are good defenders so this matchup is going to be pivotal in this series.

Advantage - Draw

SG - Mitchell Boswell - 14.4 ppg, 5.0 rpg, 3.6 apg, 1.6 spg and 0.6 bpg
VS.
SG - Nicolas Batum - 17.5 ppg, 4.5 rpg, 2.0 apg, 0.5 spg and 0.3 bpg

Boswell's points are down but that is because Coach Tomjanovich asked him to be a lock down defender on J.R. Smith. He most likely will play the same role this series. Nicolas Batum is also a shutdown defender. It will be interesting to see who can actually score some points on the other player in the matchup.

Advantage - Draw

SF - Bernard Pearson - 6.8 ppg, 3.6 rpg, 1.6 apg, 0.6 spg and 0.4 bpg
VS.
SF - Luke Babbitt - 9.0 ppg, 8.0 rpg, 2.5 apg, 0.8 spg and 0.5 bpg

Bernard Pearson had to guard Melo in the Denver series and he took a beating. Luckly, he now faces Luke Babbitt who is not much of a scorer but can rebound very well out of the SF position. This matchup will be the least important of the series and any points out of either of these guys is a bonus.

Advantage - Draw

PF - Kevin Garnett - 11.6 ppg, 7.8 rpg, 2.0 apg, 1.0 spg and 0.2 bpg
VS.
PF - LaMarcus Aldridge - 12.5 ppg, 7.5 rpg, 3.3 apg, 2.0 spg and 0.5 bpg

LaMarcus did not have a great 1st round series. Look for him to bounce back against an aging KG. I think this is the series where KG is exposed.

Advantage - Portland

C - Enes Kanter - 15.6 ppg, 12.2 rpg, 1.2 apg, 0.8 spg and 3.2 bpg
VS.
C - Greg Oden - 18.0 ppg, 11.0 rpg, 1.3 apg, 0.3 spg and 1.8 bpg

Well both players had similar series, Kanter is the younger, healthier player. Oden has been a beat against us this year and often gets Kanter into foul trouble early on. I still think Kanter will take this matchup though.

Advantage - Las Vegas

The bench for both team looks very equal. Camby could create some problems for the Aces but we counter with Paulo Prestes who is very capable at the C position.

Advantage - Draw

Prediction - Portland in 6 - I just have a feeling this isn't the year for us yet. If LaMarcus wakes up this series, it's over.

5/3/13 - Portland (0) @ Las Vegas (0) - Las Vegas 92 - Portland 89. Mitchell Boswell has 21 points, 3 assists, 3 rebounds, 2 blocks and 4 steals to bring home the win for the Aces. Rose adds 20 points and 9 assists while Kanter scores only 6 but grabs 16 rebounds. Brandon Roy has 22 and LaMarcus has 18 points and 8 rebounds. Portland goes 10 of 18 from the free throw line to hit 55.6% of their shots.

5/4/13 - Portland (0) @ Las Vegas (1) - Portland 110 - Las Vegas 102. Brandon Roy does the damage with 27 points, 6 rebounds and 8 assists. Greg Oden puts up 19 points and 14 rebounds. For the Aces Derrick Rose has 20 and Boswell adds 17 with 4 steals. Portland has 19 seconds chance points to only 9 for the Aces.

5/6/13 - Las Vegas (1) @ Portland (1) - Portland 109 - Las Vegas 71. OUCH... This game was just ugly. The only 2 players for the Aces in double digits are Rose with 17 and Boswell with 19. LaMarcus has 24 points and Brandon Roy has 19. Portland shoots 53.8% from the floor while holding the Aces to only 30.8% shooting. Not much else to say about this game. We need the next game...bad.

5/7/13 - Las Vegas (1) @ Portland (2) - Portland 99 - Las Vegas 92. LaMarcus Aldridge dominates KG for 17 points and 10 rebounds. Nicolas Batum also has 17 for the Blazers. Derrick Rose has 21 points but also has 9 turnovers. Da'Sean butler has 17 off the bench for the Aces.

It is a long flight back home to Las Vegas after this game. I have started looking over the roster and believe that a shakeup may be necessary. I am not in love with anyone in the draft yet so I may package a player and pick to bring in another big name if needed.

5/9/13 - Portland (3) @ Las Vegas (1) - Portland 113 - Las Vegas 89. Embarassed on our own court. It's bad enough we lose but when Andre Miller comes off the bench to score 23 points, what more needs be said? There will be some big changes on this roster as I am not happy with my punch off the bench and I will look to upgrade at a starting spot as well.

East

Chicago over New Orleans - 4-0
Orlando upsets Boston - 4-1

West

Portland upsets Las Vegas - 4-1
LA Lakers over Oklahoma City - 4-0

Chicago sweeps Orlando 4-0
LA Lakers beat Portland 4-3

Your NBA finals are Chicago vs. Los Angeles

The Purple and Gold are your NBA Champions as the Lakers beat the Bulls 3-1.

Time for the Lottery. Still willing to move this pick for the right player. No one stands out to me in this draft as a guaranteed superstar.

Here are the odds

Dallas 0.4%
San Antonio 0.5%
LA Clippers 0.7%
Toronto 0.8%
Columbus 0.9%
Atlanta 1.2%
New Jersey 1.8%
Cleveland 3.2%
Milwaukee 3.3%
Detroit 5.8%
Memphis 6.3%
Houston 9.5%
Las Vegas 9.6%
Washington 14.4%
Phoenix 18.4%
Charlotte 23.2%

Here we go...

Dallas
San Antonio
LA Clippers
Toronto
Columbus
Atlanta
New Jersey
Cleveland
Milwaukee
...
Detroit has moved up
...
Memphis
...
Houston has moved up and did someone fall
...
Washington
...
Las Vegas has moved up
...
Phoenix
...
3 spots with Las Vegas, Memphis and Houston all moving up.

#3 pick goes to - Detroit
...
#2 pick goes to - Houston
...
#1 pick goes to - Las Vegas!

Well at least this is a little bit of joy after being whipped by Portland. Still may package this pick. Will need to be blown away by someone in the draft to keep the #1 pick.

I was shocked with how many teams moved around this time. Last year it was just me, this time I think it was 4 of us who made a jump. Bad thing though is this draft is really now appealing to me so I will really be looking to move the pick.

What did Charlotte do with their pick? Didn't they have the best odds? I can't remember if they had given away their pick in a trade...

Well it is draft night once again. I am really interested in trying to make a move with the #1 pick. I am sure Rylan Davis is going to be the pick but he does not thrill me for my team. I am heading to the war room to try and make a move.

TRADE

Las Vegas sends - PG Derrick Rose, SF Da'Sean Butler, C Dexter Pittman, 2013 1st round pick (#1) and 2015 1st round pick
TO
Toronto for PG John Wall, SF Tobias Harris, SF Luol Deng and 2013 1st round pick (#13)

Why for Las Vegas? It gives us an upgrade now and in the future at SF. Deng will walk after this year and Harris is a great starter at SF after that. I have wanted John Wall as an Ace since I became GM. Now hopefully he doesn't test free agency. I also feel I can get a PF who will be ok at #13.

Why for Toronto? They have a PG in a long term contract so Rose can't bolt on them. They also get a good defensive SF and have the chance to take Rylan Davis (at least they better!).

Winner - Las Vegas - Wall is a better PG for this team and Deng will give us a nice empty salary to try and resign Wall if he does test FA.

1st - Toronto - Rylan Davis - PF - 6'11" - 247lbs - Connecticut - Easy choice for number 1 selection. The guys love the pick. Should be a great scorer and shot blocker. His rebounding is ok and he has Shaq like free throw shooting skills. Add that if he makes it through an 82 game season it will be a sign of the Apocalypse!

2nd - Houston - Elan Winter - SF - 6'10" - 211 lbs - Western Kentucky - Long, lanky SF who will make a defensive team at one point. Should be in the top 3 in rebounding in regards to SF. He is a bit of an issue in the locker room which could bring on additional problems. The guys like the pick other than his off the court antics.

3rd - Detroit - Awvee Simmons - C - 6'11" - 262lbs - Oklahoma State - If you remember Detroit took Ben Micheals - C last year and I hated the pick. As you can see, I was right and they go after another C again. Rebounding is much better than Micheals and he can score a lot better as well. Still, this guy is not a great defender and in my book, not the best C in the draft.

4th - Charlotte - Chris Anderson - SF - 6'7" - 203 lbs - DePaul - These guys are beanpoles! This guy will also be a very good rebounder in the league. He can light it up as well, scoring wise that is. Will not stop anyone defensively. Good pick for Charlotte.

5th - Phoenix - Dante Lockhart - SG - 6'5" - 210lbs - Memphis - RAW as hell. Will take time to develop but will score from anywhere. Decent defensively and will get his fair share of steals. Good passing skills for a SG.

6th - Washington - Steven Cambridge - C - 7'5" - 278lbs - UT-Chattanooga - I almost traded Kanter to take this guy. This guy will lead the league in rebounding one day. In my opinion, this guy will be the next Dwight Howard. I still may make a move for him if I can get value in return for Kanter. The guys love this pick and say he should have been off the board earlier.

7th - Memphis - Jimmy Boston - SF - 6'5" - 205lbs - Oklahoma State - Not impressed, thought this guy would be late lottery. Jack of all trades player. Does a little of everything and nothing great. Most likely will be a good bench player.

8th - Milwaukee - Estell Taylore - SF - 6'6" - 221lbs - Wisconsin - Bad defender, bad rebounder. Has no inside game. Will be a jump shooter without much range. Bad work ethic on top of it all.

9th - Cleveland - Gale Thompson - PF - 6'8" - 234lbs - UC Riverside - Has an above average inside post game. Crashes the offensive boards well. Not a great defender. Will turn the ball over often.

10th - New Jersey - Jesse Thorne - PG - 6'4" - 179lbs - Villanova - Good defender with NBA range from outside already. Has good ball handling skills but must improve passing game to make it as a starting PG in the NBA. Should not have been a lottery pick.

11th - Atlanta - Cameron Jackson - C - 6'9" - 251lbs - Florida - Not much of a scoring threat but decent defender and very good rebounder. I think Atlanta felt the pressure here to land a C and jumped the gun early.

12th - Columbus - Jo Jo Hill - SF - 6'6" - 217lbs - Miami (OH) - A little short for me as a SF. Decent scorer and the guys feel he is a steal at 12. Decent defender and rebounder. Ball handling is an issue and can be a bit of the off court issue.

13th - Las Vegas - Jack Burks - PF - 6'10" - 238lbs - North Carolina - Decent rebounder and has an offensive game that will maybe be in double digits. Great defender though and has an excellent work ethic.

14th - LA Clippers - Brian Wooley - SG - Xavier

15th - San Antonio - Robert Coulter - SG - Tulsa

16th - Dallas - Corey Trotti - SF - Charlotte

17th - New York - D.A. Williams - PG - Fresno State

18th - Denver - Brad Knight - SG - Miami (FL)

19th - Miami - Brad Anderson - PF - UT-Chattanooga

20th - Indiana - Ryan Quinn - PG - Minnesota

21st - Utah - Andy Inge - PF - North Florida

22nd - Oklahoma City - Cordell Adams - SF - Pepperdine

23rd - Detroit - James Bollman - PF - Wisconsin

24th - Golden State - Dennis Claxton - SF - Florida

25th - Philadelphia - Kelvin Mannion - PG - California

26th - Indiana - Teremun Sullivan - PG - Kent State

27th - Boston - Cuonzo Elliott - SF - Purdue

28th - Portland - Terrell Leib - SG - Indiana

29th - Sacramento - Vernard Montgomery - SF - Tennessee

30th - Detroit - Kelvin Russell - PG - Pepperdine

31st - Chicago - Delawn Caldbeck - PF - UCLA

32nd - Minnesota - Greg Graves - SG - Texas

Only listing my picks in the 2nd round.

34th - Las Vegas - Frank Hartfield - SF - 6'8" - 232lbs - North Carolina - Very raw but this guy gobbles up steals. Decent rebounder with NBA 3 range. Not much of an inside game. Should be a decent bench player.

TRADE

Las Vegas trades 2013 2nd round pick (#44) and 2013 2nd round pick (#64)
to
Washington for 2013 2nd round pick (#35)

Why for Las Vegas - Better pick and had a player we wanted available.

Why for Washington - More picks.

Winner - Las Vegas - Able to land the scoring PF we wanted.

35th - Las Vegas - Albert Reis - PF - 6'8" - 244lbs - Alabama - This guy can flat out score. Doesn't do much of anything else but will be a spark plug off the bench for us.

All other trades from the night...

LA Lakers send PG Steve Blake and 2013 1st round pick (#30)
to
Detroit for PF Greg Monroe

New Orleans sends SG Kurt Whiteman
to
Memphis for C Mike Ragin

Orlando trades 2013 1st round pick (#26)
to
Indiana for PG Ryan Quinn

Atlanta sends SG Joe Johnson
to
Washington for SG Gilbert Arenas

Portland sends SG Elliot Williams
to
Charlotte for SF Scott Stone

Boston sends SF Paul Pierce
to
Detroit for SG Ben Gordon

Phoenix sends PF Hakim Warrick
to
Columbus for SF Ron Artest

Oklahoma City sends C Anthony Ford
to
San Antonio for PG Brookes Lee
