Run N Gun: A Golden State Warriors Story

Postby Myles Nelson » Wed Mar 21, 2012 5:56 pm

Vs. Utah: 111-106 L
@ LA Clippers: 104-85 L
@ OKC: 105-100 L
Vs. LA Clippers: 114-93 W

Our first win of the year came at a price, as Anthony Randolph got injured and will be out for two weeks. Brandan Wright is also hurt, but he'll be able to play.

Vs. Dallas: 100-94 L
@ San Antonio: 119-98 L
@ New Orleans: 108-106 W
Vs. Milwaukee: 137-96 W

We finally play up to our full potential against Milwaukee. As a run and gun team, I was hoping to score a ton of points. We got it this time. Also, beating New Orleans on the road was huge!

Vs. Detroit: 136-116 W
@ Phoenix: 103-95 L

Monta and Steph Curry are killing it so far, combining for 42 points, 10 assists, 3.5 steals per game. They are turning it over 6.5 times per game, but since they handle the ball 90% of the time it tends to happen. They are also shooting around 47% combined, and their defense has been pretty good too.

Reggie Williams is also shooting very well, hitting on 46% and 39.5% 3PT. Azubuike's defense is no better and his offense is really poor, so Reggie will be getting more minutes. Biedrins is actually playing very well, averaging 7.5/6.8 in 20 minutes on 64% shooting, while Aldrich is averaging 6.6/8.8 on 41% shooting. Biedrins will take over the starting role and get more minutes alongside Randolph.

New Depth Chart and Rotation
PG Stephen Curry (36)
SG Monta Ellis (34)
SF Reggie Williams (34)
PF Anthony Randolph (26)
C Andris Biedrins (30)

PF Brandan Wright (20)
C Cole Aldrich (20)
SG Anthony Morrow (16)
PG Jason Williams (12)
SF/SG Kelenna Azubuikie (12)
C Nazr Mohammed (0)
SG Charlie Bell (0)

Vs. Oklahoma City: 105-83 W
Vs. LA Lakers: 101-82 W
Vs. Philadelphia: 100-96 L
Vs. San Antonio: 119-111 W
Vs. New York: 120-109 W

Since the change and during our homestand, we went 4-1, which is definitely a good sign. We have a short Eastern road trip coming up, though, but sitting at 8-7 is a good sign for a rebuilding team like ourselves.

November Evaluations

Ellis: 22.9 ppg, 4.0 apg, 1.9 spg, 3.3 topg, 46.8% fg, 100% STOP. Ellis is carrying this team with his scoring, shooting at a high clip and forcing turnovers. I love it.

Curry: 18.4 ppg, 6.2 apg, 1.7 spg, 3.3 topg, 49.1% fg, 38% 3PT, 92.4% STOP. Curry is very inconsistent. He has some games where he gets 7 assists and 1 turnover, and others with 4 assists and 8 turnovers. He also fouls a LOT. He's averaging 4.7 fouls per game.

R Williams: 13.5 ppg, 4.3 rpg, 47.8% fg, 41.3% 3PT, 78% STOP. Williams is a great spot up shooter and is playing solid defense, exactly what I need from him.

Morrow: 9.7 ppg, 54.9% fg, 44% 3PT, 88.2% STOP. The only thing with Morrow is that he doesn't do much else besides score. He doesn't rebound or pass particularly well, so he's best as an off the bench spark.

Biedrins: 9.4 ppg, 7.1 rpg, 1.3 bpg, 64.8% fg, 0.9 PA/SF. Biedrins has been an anchor down low, with very efficient scoring, good rebounding, and tough defense. He's still overpaid but he's doing well.

Azubuike: 7.9 ppg, 38.9% fg, 12.8% 3PT, 80% STOP. Azubuike's shooting is horrid, but hopefully it will pick up over time.

J Williams: 7.1 ppg, 4.3 apg, 8.1 A/TO, 48.3% fg, 39.5% 3pt, 53.9% STOP. Williams offense is fantastic, with great shooting percentages and efficient passing. The only downfall is his horrible defense.

Wright: 7.1 ppg, 4.7 rpg, 45.7% fg, 1.1 PA/SF. Wright plays some pretty good offense, but his defense isn't that great.

Randolph: 6.6 ppg, 6.1 rpg, 35.7% fg, 0.7 PA/SF. The only thing keeping Randolph on the court is his great defense.

You might notice someone missing here. Someone by the name of Cole Aldrich.

Cole Aldrich was traded to the Toronto Raptors for their 2011 1st round pick.

WTF?! Our center for the future traded?? Are you kidding me Larry Riley??

Aldrich: 6.1 ppg, 7.5 rpg, 2.6 bpg, 41.9% fg, 0.9 PA/SF. Aldrich was doing well too! This is ridiculous.

The Raptors are 5-11 and like, 4th to last in the East. But we didn't get anyone in return. Come on Larry Riley.

Maybe Larry Riley can retire Chris Mullin's jersey and get booed when he tries to introduce Chris during the halftime honors.

@ Cleveland: 101-85 W

Biedrins had 16 points and 18 rebounds, Curry had 19 points and 12 assists, and Ellis had 30 points. Talk about big games.

@ New Jersey: 118-103 W

Talk about a HUGE win! LeBron and CB4's team! Then again, LeBron was in suit and tie for the game, sitting out a one game suspension for chucking the ball at the refs head the game before. Still though, beating a 15-3 team is no small matter. Curry had 17/11, Biedrins had 19/11, and Reggie Williams had 23 points on an amazing 11/11 shooting night.

@ Atlanta: 133-122 W

Curry and Ellis each had 34 points.

Vs. Indiana: 101-83 W
@ LA Lakers: 108-102 L
Vs. Phoenix: 143-140 W (OT)

The Suns had 9 players in double figures. We had 3 players (Curry, Ellis and Williams) who had 28 points each.

Vs. LA Lakers: 94-83 W
Vs. Portland: 107-94 W
Vs. Toronto: 111-80 W

In Aldrich's return to Golden State, he shot 2/12, but did block 5 shots and grab 9 rebounds.

@ Washington: 108-101 L

Since we started 1-5, we have gone 15-4. We are doing so well.

@ Miami: 93-88 W
@ Houston: 118-108 L
@ New Orleans: 102-88 W
Vs. Boston: 105-98 W
Vs. Sacramento: 126-113 W

Warriors Evaluations

Ellis: 24.6 ppg, 3.7 rpg, 3.6 apg, 2.4 spg, 44.3% fg, 100% STOP
Curry: 19.0 ppg, 3.6 rpg, 6.7 apg, 1.8 spg, 3.7 topg, 3.8 fouls per game, 52.8% fg, 44.4% 3PT, 89.3% STOP
R Williams: 12.9 ppg, 4.0 rpg, 1.0 spg, 49.2% fg, 37.8% 3PT, 81.3% STOP

J Williams: 6.8 ppg 3.9 apg, 6.9 A/TO, 47.6% fg, 39.8% 3PT, 52.5% STOP
Wright: 6.7 ppg, 4.0 rpg, 1.0 bpg, 44.8% fg, 1.0 PA/SF
Azubuike: 5.6 ppg, 38% fg, 86% STOP
Mohammed: 2.1 ppg, 39.3% fg, 1.1 PA/SF
Turiaf: 2.0 ppg, 77.8% fg, 0.9 PA/SF

Ellis is doing everything very well, scoring at a high clip, stealing the ball, and stopping players from getting to the basket. Curry has high turnover and foul rate but he's been great as well. Reggie has been a steady shooter, as well as Morrow. Biedrins and Randolph are quite the duo down low, with good defense and solid offense. Jason Williams has a great shooting touch and solid ball handling. Wright has done a good job in extended minutes, and Azubuike, Mohammed and Turiaf have done well enough while giving players breathers.

lets hope that toronto pick ends up being top 5! If I was the GM based on Torontos record I would have probably taken the gamble too. Is it hard trying to get the best out of Monta and Curry in the same backcourt?

Not really, actually, because of their varying styles of play. Ellis spends about 40% of his time driving to the basket, whereas Curry spends about 30% of it behind the arc and 50% of it hitting jump shots. The way I have it set up is that one of the two is on the court at any given moment, but they play together a lot as well.

As for the trade, I always prefer having a body over the pick when it comes to first rounders. Cole Aldrich was the 7th pick and he had a ton of potential as the defensive center we needed. In fact, I'd go so far as to say he was the player Golden State really needed, just a little raw. Who's to say we'll get something better in next year's draft? Quite the gamble, IMO.

Hmm, hard to say. I have the most DDSPB 1 dynasties and jksander rules the DDSCB dynasty universe.

Edit: And 41.9% shooting is unacceptable for a big man, so that wasn't a bad trade by your GM, esp. given TO's current record.

Okay, I have the most DDSPB2 dynasties then, for sure.

And yeah, his shooting was terrible but as a rookie I felt he had nowhere to go but up in terms of offensive production, but his defense was awesome!
