Good you spelled that as "desert" rather than "dessert". :p

As you may have heard I am suing the NCAA with regard to the fine and suspension they levied against me- or attempted to, relating to my speaking out about the atrocious officiating that has become so common in Division I college basketball. You will shortly receive a letter from the NCAA Division I Head Coaches' Association, soliciting your support for my suit, and asking you whether you support the DIHCA paying legal fees in the suit. In light of your experience in your opening game I am hoping you will support this measure.

Very truly yours,

Will Wynn, Duke University

[Bringing this back to a higher plain...lol]:

Dear Coach Wynn,

The issues you’ve raised and the position you’ve taken could only have been precipitated by a coach of your stature and experience at a major college such as yours. Had anyone with less reputation at a less prominent college done it, the consequences would have been even more dire. This is not to make light of the actions taken against you which certainly are injurious.

Good luck with your suit.

I will give the DIHCA proposal serious consideration when it reaches me.

/s/ QM McMullin, CSU Bakersfield

Note to self, looks like McMullin evaded this issue pretty nicely. I'll put him down as undecided- until he sees which way the majority is going.

With 1-1/2 yrs of coaching and being at incredibly (non)prestigious CSUB, evasion is a wise policy.

Gary Winston will undoubtedly keep his mouth shut entirely on the subject since he's coaching just down the road from Duke, and will eventually have enough problems of his own with the NCAA.

Meet the McMullins

Postby PointGuard » Wed Mar 06, 2013 1:26 am

My father Patrick McMullin, called Pat by friend and foe alike, is a hard-working laborer throughout his life. He becomes a mechanic for the city bus department, making just enough money to barely keep the family from faltering. He comes down with asbestosis, probably from all the brake linings he has worked on throughout his life, but out of necessity continues to work.

My mother’s maiden name was Anne O’Hern. My father and her friends call her Annie. She stays home to care for her large family, but occasionally takes on odd jobs to help make ends meet. She is deeply religious. One of her brothers becomes a priest and a sister a nun. The O’Hern family reveres my mother, though, because of the big family she produces. She is the rock of the McMullin family.

As the first born, Patrick Jr, who is always called Paddy, gets many privileges unavailable to the other children born into the McMullin family. But he is also expected to take on responsibilities for his siblings as well. While he initially fulfills these responsibilities dutifully, he begins to rebel as a teenager and finally drops out of school before graduating. He has his father’s mechanical aptitude and finds work in the engineering department on a laker that hauls ore from one port to another in the Great Lakes. He marries outside the faith, much to the consternation of my parents. He has just one child, again to the consternation of my parents.

Sean inherits many of the insecurities and lack of confidence sometimes seen in a second child. He’s a smart kid, but rather than excel in school, he excels in getting into trouble, nearly being sentenced to juvenile hall. But he escapes that, possibly to his detriment since he doesn’t learn about consequences, and floats through his teenage years by merely getting by in school and hanging out with the wrong group of kids. He finds his challenges in working the edges of society, deserving but eluding punishment. He eventually finds a new friend in the bottle. While not publicly acknowledging their disappointment about Sean, my parents worry incessantly about him.

As the oldest daughter, Katherine, who is called Kate, becomes the stalwart of the family and assumes all responsibilities thrust upon her. She takes care of her younger siblings and even does the same for her two older brothers when they allow it. She graduates from high school, shortly thereafter marrying a man who becomes a police officer, and raises her own brood of 6 children.

Margaret (Meg) and Mary Alice are twins. As such they develop a relationship that is so close they could exist independently of any of the rest of their siblings. They do well in school and both go to junior college, graduating with Associate degrees. Meg becomes a bookkeeper and Mary Alice a nurse. Both remain exceptionally close and refuse to leave Philadelphia. Finally in their mid-30’s first Mary Alice marries, and to no one’s surprise, Meg follows suit a month later. Both have a quick succession of kids, Meg 5 in 6 years, Mary Alice 4 in 7 years.

Daniel (Danny) is a talented musician. He plays piano first, then learns guitar. His abilities at both instruments lead him to become a member of a struggling pop music group. Later he strikes out on his own and makes a good living opening for many star musicians, travelling around the U.S. and world. Danny plays not only instruments, but also the field, remaining a confirmed bachelor, but probably adding children in several places around the earth.

You already know part of my story. As the 7th born, I’m just one of the brood. While I probably could have been a very good student, I prefer to spend my time on basketball courts rather than in libraries. I slide ignominiously through my high school classes, graduating in the middle of my class. If not for the last-minute miracle of being given a basketball scholarship, I would have had to go to work to help support the family. But instead, I become the first of this branch of the McMullin family to ever graduate from a 4-year college. Since I come out of college with no clear career plan, it’s my good fortune that Coach Finnegan stepped in to create a career plan for me. Most of my relationships with women have been short-term, but since entering college I’ve had three serious girl friends with which there have been long-term relationships. As mentioned previously in this dynasty report, the most recent, Jen Proctor, was less in love with me than was I with her and broke things off when I headed for Bakersfield. That doesn’t keep my mother from asking each time I talk with her on the phone about my “girl friends” and mentioning that now that I have a good-paying job, I shouldn’t wait too long to get married and begin having some new McMullins.

Fiona is the true student in our family. She excels in all her classes. She is given an academic scholarship to St. Francis in Philadelphia where she continues to rack up A’s. Upon graduation, she is hired by a top-notch marketing firm from New York and continues to set the world of fire. Far after the beginning of this dynasty report, at the age of 32, she marries a prominent New York attorney. They have three over-indulged children who attend the best private schools and will eventually move on to Ivy League colleges.

Briana (Bree), the youngest McMullin, is not only given the advantages of being the baby of the family, adored by all in our family, but is a knock-out beauty as well. She is given breaks in school and is able to graduate from high school without breaking a sweat. She prefers the social life so opts out of going to college and instead goes to work as a bank teller. While numerous suitors compete for her attention, she prefers short-term relationships.

Since I’m the only member of my family to move to the West Coast, I don’t see my family much, although when Danny has done concerts in Seattle (when I was there) and Los Angeles (the past few years), I get front row seats and an opportunity to catch up on his life in the fast lane.

Game #2

Postby PointGuard » Wed Mar 06, 2013 6:35 pm

Game #2: Nov. 14, 2012; CSU Bakersfield Roadrunners (1-0) at New Orleans Privateers (0-0)

New Orleans PF Jess Dennis is their strongest player and averaged 14.0 ppg last year. But since the Privateers have yet to play a game this year, we’ll see how things unfold rather than double-teaming him initially.

Jerell Brown scored our first 5 points, but soon thereafter picked up his 2nd foul just 4 minutes into the game. Rashun Kamara joined him on the bench with 2 fouls 2 minutes later. We picked up our 7th team foul with 11:16 to play in the first half. Johnny Chase was assessed his 2nd foul at the 9:13 mark. 45 seconds later, after yet another foul, I was charged with a Technical. It was a relief to hear the buzzer sound ending the half. We trailed 37-26, partially due to hitting just 38% of our shots and making 12 turnovers. But picking up 13 fouls (as compared to New Orleans 6) gave the Privateers 12 more free throw attempts that we got and put 4 of our players on the bench with 2 fouls apiece for a good portion of the half. Despite his playing just 4 minutes, Jerell Brown’s 5 points led our scoring.

Fouls continued to pile up against us in the 2nd half. We got our 7th foul charged to us with 9:27 to go. After trailing from 6-12 points throughout the half, we closed to 56-53 with 1:24 remaining. Our shooting let us down at the end, but ultimately we lost the game due to our turnovers and the refs whistles.

Final Score: New Orleans-57, CSU Bakersfield-55. CSU Bakersfield season record: 1-1.

Scoring leaders: Brown-14, Hill-8, Settles-8.

Rebound leaders: Settles-11, Chase-6.

Assist leaders: Hill-5.

Player of the Game: New Orleans’ C Jonathon Ress-14 pts, 8 reb, 3 blocks.

Coach’s Pat on the Back Award: C Mike Settles-8 pts, 11 reb.

Other notes: We outshot New Orleans 40% to 36% and hit 2 more FG’s and 1 more 3-pointer than the Privateers. We also out-rebounded New Orleans 34-25. On the other side of the coin, we turned the ball over 21 times while New Orleans made just 14 turnovers and those numbers were the same for fouls: 21 against us to 14 against the Privateers. That allowed New Orleans to get to the line 14 more times (and make 7 more points) than us. Do you think the refs know I responded to Coach Wynn's letter and are taking some retribution?
