Game #202 - Start of 2006-07 Season

Postby randy » Sun Nov 16, 2014 10:57 am

Nov 14, 2006: Rice (0-0) @ Boston (0-0)

Tip off

It was close game, until our 2nd unit came in, and gave us a double-digit lead midway in the 1st half. SG Daniel Aylsworth exploded for 19 pts off the bench. Our defense could use some improvement, but I can't complain with the excellent offense we've shown

Halftime, Up 48-35

Start of 2nd half

We have 4 early turn overs, allowing BU to make a run.
15:10, Up 50-45

Our offense has hit a brick wall, as we have only made 2 FGs in the 2nd half so far
10:47, Tied at 54

We have 10 turn overs already in the 2nd half.
6:28, Down 62-64

We have taken the lead momentarily with a basket from SG Daniel Aylsworth (25 pts), but BU hit a 3 to get back in the driver seat
3:43, Down 66-67

We committed our 12th turn over. BU gets a basket inside. We miss, and BU scores again. Timeout
2:55, Down 66-71

Teams traded FGs. We miss, and BU sank 2 FTs. We get a quick 2. BU splits their charities. Down 6 with about a minute left. I called a timeout. We'll shoots 3s if they are available. SG Daniel Aylsworth hits a 3. We're still in this game
0:48, Down 73-76

BU missed. I called my last timeout
0:30, Down 73-76

BU is guarding our shooters well. C Ruben Edgerson drives instead and got fouled on the act. Edgerson missed both. We have to foul. BU added 2 more FTs. Time ran out. Very poor defense and ball handling in the 2nd half, and we wasted a 17 pt lead during the 1st half

Final Score: Rice - 73, Boston - 78

Game #203

Postby randy » Sun Nov 16, 2014 11:45 am

Nov 14, 2006: Rice (0-1) @ Cincinnati (1-0)

Tip off

We only committed 1 turn over in the 1st half, but couldn't take full advantage, as we shot only 36% FG. Last season's 1st team All Conference SG Jevon Wilson, who was scoreless in our last game, had 20 pts in the 1st half to lead all scorers

Halftime, Up 37-28
Good job on keeping the ball. Hoping we don't get into another 2nd half meltdown just like in the last game

Start of 2nd half

It is CINCY who's having problems keeping the ball, already with 12 turn overs. Our shooting still cold though (0-9 3PT).
13:58, Up 45-34

CINCY has stayed close. Both teams shooting below 40% FG. We're able to get just enough scoring support from our other players, to remain in front
6:58, Up 54-46

SG Daniel Aylsworth scored our next 5 pts (all of his 8 pts scored in the 2nd half). But we made consecutive turn overs, and CINCY breathing into ou necks again. We have 6 turn overs in the 2nd half, after only making 1 mistake during the entire 1st half. Timeout
4:42, Up 59-52

After a split FT by SG Jevon Wilson (26 pts), CNCY hits a 3. We turned it over again, allowing another CINCY fast break. Here we go again. Another timeout.
3:49, Up 60-57

C Ruben Edgerson has hit 2 jumpers against CINCY's 2-3 zone, over our last 3 possessions. Edgerson gets a steal on the defensive end, allowing PG Quyn Kante to an easy 2.
2:26, Up 67-59

CINCY still not done as they hit another 3. On our next play, we threw the ball once again (9 turn overs in the 2nd half)
1:41, Up 67-62

CINCY hits another 3! Timeout
1:28, Up 67-65

SF Speedy Hancock missed a 3, but C Ruben Edgerson to our rescue and his offensive put back is successful.
1:05, Up 69-65

Foul called on us. Both team sin penalty. CINCY hits both FTs. I called my last timeout
0:53, Up 69-67

We go to C Edgar Edgerson again, and he delivers with an inside basket. Edgerson (14 pts, 10 rebs) scored 8 of our last 11 pts. Timeout CINCY.
0:41, Up 71-67

CINCY finally missing some 3s, and we shot some FTs to ice the game. Almost blew this one.

Final Score: Rice - 74, Cincinnati - 67

Game #204

Postby randy » Sun Nov 16, 2014 12:32 pm

Nov 21, 2006: Fairleigh Dickinson (1-1) @ Rice (1-1)

Tip off

Another strong 1st half, but this time it was because of our defense, forcing FAIR to 14 turn overs, resulting to 20 fast break pts on our end. SG Jevon Wilson with 18 pts in the 1st half.

Halftime, Up 41-23

Start of 2nd half

FAIR tried to shoot their way back in the 2nd half, both from beyond the arc (6-17 3PT) and at the line (17-22 FT), but their 25 turn overs meant they didn't have enough opportunities to score. Our big men did much of the scoring in the 2nd half.

Final Score: Fairleigh Dickinson - 49, Rice - 67
