The AI really needs to make "smart" adjustments on their end-game lineup. In my last game, our opponents backup PG was unconscious shooting 5-7 3PT, and ended up with 21 pts. But he played only 13 mins. If he was on the floor during the last few minutes of the game, it could have been a different result for us

Postby randy » Tue Mar 26, 2013 1:23 am

1/2/96: #23 Sam Houston St (13-0, 0-0) @ Nicholls St (4-9, 0-0)
NIC is -6 in team prestige

Scouting Report
1. Primary defense: Man
2. Offense focus: Inside
3. Key players: PF Zac Smith, 9.3 ppg

Initial instructions
1. Offense Sets / Focus: Auto / Balanced
2. Offense Pace / Freedom: 7 / 65%
3. Off / Def Rebounding Crash: 9 / 8
4. Defense Sets / Intensity: Auto / 8
5. Pressure Set / Frequency: Auto / 9
Tip off (1st Half)

15:17, Up 9-5
NIC shooting 3s early, going 1-4

11:19, Down 11-14
NIC 4-8 from 3PT

7:55, Down 15-17

Halftime, Up 41-37
Both teams perfect from the line; we shot 14-14, NIC 8-8. NIC is 7-15 from 3PT. Burditt has 14 pts, Rowles with 12 and 4. Increasing defense intensity

Start of 2nd Half

15:44, Up 50-47
We got off to a good start, but NIC recovered. Burditt scored 7 of our first 9 pts in the half.

11:55, Up 58-53
Burditt continues to carry the load, with 26 pts. He'll get a rest

7:14, Up 72-64
Rowles and Jeffries took over the scoring while Burditt is out. I'll bring back Burditt and Thomas. F Griffin is back on the floor also, with 4 fouls

3:27, Up 76-68
F Griffin fouls out

NIC turned it over. Both teams with 12 turn overs. Our ball

Doss receives the pass from Slater. He spins and drive to the basket. Slam dunk!

3:05, Up 78-68

NIC's PG Glendon Egans connects on a 3 from the top of the key. He has 19 pts. We'll go man defense rest of the way.

2:48, Up 78-71

They foul Slater. NIC with 9 team fouls. 1-1. Slater hits both

2:40, Up 80-71

NIC's SG Kevin Robinson scores on a jumper.

2:16, Up 80-73

Burdiit has the ball. He shoots but couldn't convert. K Griffin gets the off rebound. He passes to Burditt. Burditt is looking to make a pass, but was stolen by NIC's Zac Smith. It's our 13th turn over

NIC sets up a play. Smith receives the pass from Egans. Smith throws a terrible pass to Robinson. NIC turn over #13. I called a time out. We'll slow down the pace. I want the ball in the hands of Burditt.

1:34, Up 80-73

Thomas receives the inbound pass. Burditt can't get the pass. Thomas electing to pass to Rowles. Rowles to Slater. Slater attempts to pass but was stolen by NIC's Egans. Egans with the outlet to SF Holcomb, and Holcomb lays it in on the break. NIC's home crowd on their feet. I call another time out. I replaced Slater with Jeffries. Burditt will play the 2 spot

1:10, Up 80-75

The ball is inbounded to Burditt. Burditt is looking to make a pass. K Griffin catches the pass. K Griffin passes back to Burditt. Burditt makes his move. Traveling! It's our 15th turn over. NIC called a time out.

0:59, up 80-75

NIC's C Jeremy Baker receives the pass in the low post. Baker takes a shot. Missed but got fouled by Rowles. 2 FTs. Baker is 1-1 from the FT so far

He missed the 1st. Missed the 2nd. Burditt grabs the rebound. I elected not to call a time out. NIC had no choice but to foul Thomas. 2 FTs

Hits the 1st, but missed the 2nd. K Griffin gets the offensive board, but instead of bringing out the ball, he elected to shoot quickly (why?). He missed and NIC with the def board. NIC called a time out. Def rebound crash now maxed out. We'll go 1-2-2 zone

0:35, Up 81-75

As expected, NIC puts up a 3. They miss. We rebound. They foul Thomas again. 2 FTs. If he makes 1, it will be a 3 possession game, and this game is over

Thomas connects on both FTs

NIC missed again. We get the rebound. And to add insult to injury, Thomas hits a 3 at the buzzer. The NIC crowd showed their displeasure

Final score: #23 Sam Houston St - 86, Nicholls St - 75
1. Not happy with the turn overs. Our starting back court combined for 10
2. We were +22 in FTAs; we ended up shooting 29-33, while NIC is 9-11. Those 2 missed FTs by Baker came at the wrong time for NIC, as they could have cut down our lead to 3 with 1 minute remaining
3. NIC connected on 10-23 3PT, while we shot 7-14
4. NIC's PG Glendon Egans finished with 19 pts, 3-3 3PT, and 5 asts

Game #15

Postby randy » Tue Mar 26, 2013 2:41 am

1/5/96: Lamar (5-9, 1-0) @ #23 Sam Houston St (14-0, 1-0)
Lamar is -5 in team prestige

Scouting Report
1. Primary defense: Man
2. Offense focus: Balanced
3. Key players: Familiar faces such as SG David Blossom (11.6 ppg) and C Jake Forrest (9.7 ppg, 5.8 rpg). Forrest was a 1st-team All Conference player last season
4. Lamar plays a high-tempo game. They are also a good offesnsive rebounding team

Initial instructions
1. Offense Sets / Focus: Auto / Balanced
2. Offense Pace / Freedom: 7 / 65%
3. Off / Def Rebounding Crash: 9 / 8
4. Defense Sets / Intensity: Auto / 8
5. Pressure Set / Frequency: Auto / 9
Tip off (1st Half)

13:22, Tied at 7
With no fouls being called, and lots of misses on both sides, it was endless running. Were shooting 33%, Lamar at 27%

8:44, Up 19-9
Burditt heating up with 9 pts. Lamar continues to shoot poorly at 25%

Halftime, Up 37-25
Both teams scored well in the last 8 mins of the half. Burditt has 12 pts, Thomas with 10. Lamar's leading scorer was Blossom with 6. Lamar already has 21 rebs (7 off). We'll increase our rebounding and defensive intensities in the 2nd half

Start of 2nd Half

17:55, Up 48-29
After trading a couple of baskets each and the score at 41-29, we went on a quick run. Momentum clearly on our side, which forced the Lamar coach to call a time out

15:47, Up 48-33
Just as the team was getting "comfortable" again, Lamar came up with 4 unanswered pts. The media time out came at a right time. I reminded the boys not to "sleep" similar to what happened in previous games, or else that lead would soon be gone

15:07, Up 51-33
Lamar quickly in the penalty

12:42, Up 51-39
And it's Lamar's make a run again!

9:00, Up 64-43
And then, we go on a 13-4 run of our own. What a crazy game

4:17, Up 78-51
This is over. I'll start clearing the bench; everyone will play

Final score: Lamar - 63, #23 Sam Houston St - 86

1/9/96: #18 Sam Houston St (15-0, 2-0) @ Texas A&M Corpus Christi (6-9, 1-1)
TAMCC is -5 in team prestige; we lost at their home court last season

Scouting Report
1. Primary defense: Man
2. Offense focus: Outside
3. Key players: SG Tony Driver (15.5 ppg) and man-mountain 275-lb C Regie Kamouna (7.2 ppg, 5.7 rpg). Both Driver and Kamouna were named 1st Team All Conference last season. They are deep though, with 5 other players capable of scoring

Initial instructions
1. Offense Sets / Focus: Auto / Balanced
2. Offense Pace / Freedom: 7 / 65%
3. Off / Def Rebounding Crash: 9 / 8
4. Defense Sets / Intensity: Auto / 8
5. Pressure Set / Frequency: Auto / 9
Tip off (1st Half)

15:16, Up 11-4
Rowles relishing the challenge of going up against Kamouna; he has 4 pts and 3 rebs. TAMCC shooting 1-6 FG

11:58, Up 13-10
TAMCC's Driver with 2 fouls.

7:33, Up 22-19
Rowles with 9 and 6. TAMCC already with 9 team fouls

Halftime, Up 39-30
It's old-school basketball out there, with 2 opposing big men batling each other out. Rowles having a monster game with 15 and 6; his counterpart, Kamouna, has 8 pts on 4-4 FG for TAMCC. Burditt contributed 7 pts, while TAMCC's leading scorer, Tony Driver, only with 2 pts on 1-5 shooting. We need to do a better job on the FT line; we shot only 9-14

Start of 2nd Half

14:48, Up 47-36
Off rebounds are 11-2 to our advantage; K Griffin, Rowles, and Doss just muscling their way against the big men of TAMCC

9:40, Up 51-44
This is far from over. We're shooting poorly than TAMCC, 42-44%

5:45, Up 58-53
I'm bringing back Burditt after a short rest. Rowles now with 21 and 9.

3:29, Up 60-57
Slowly but surely, TAMCC has climbed back to this game

Burditt drives to the basket and knocks down the shot. Burditt has 13 pts, but only 6-17 FG. We'll go man defense all the way, and increase defense and rebounding intensities

3:18, Up 62-57

We fouled their PF Wormley on the act of shooting. 2 FTs. He hits both

3:00, Up 62-59

F Griffin throws a terrible pass over the head of Thomas. His 4th turn over. TAMCC ball

TAMCC's SG Driver only has 4 pts, 2-11 FG. But he's their go to guy. He drives to the lane and got fouled by Burditt. 2 FTs. Driver missed the 1st. Gets the 2nd

2:39, Up 62-60

We go to Rowles at the post. he puts up a shot. Block by Kamouna! TAMCC recovers the ball. It's now with their PG Hunter. Hunter attempts to make a pass. A horrible pass by Hunter! Turn over #14 for TAMCC. I called a time out. We'll run motion, hoping to get the ball to Rowles at the low post again, with Thomas as the passer

1:39, Up 62-60

Thomas has the ball. He sees the open lane. He drives and puts up a shot. It was a little strong. Thomas gets the offensive rebound. Looks for the open man. Finds K Griffin. K Griffin shoots, and hits a tough shot in traffic! Not the play we had in mind, bu we'll take it

1:23, Up 64-60

TAMCC's SF Richardson missed. TAMCC's SG Driver didn't even touched the ball on that possession; he was visibly pissed with his team mates. Thomas grabs the offensive rebound. I call another timeout. This time, Burditt will get the inbound pass, and just do his thing

0:57, Up 64-60

They immediately foul Burditt. Only their 3rd team foul. Four more fouls given up by TAMCC. And boy, the clock seems to run very slow during these situations. 5 successive fouls by TAMCC only took 5 secs off the clock!

0:52, Up 64-60

F Griffin missed the front end of the 1-and-1. But Rowles with another offensive rebound; his 10th rebound. They immediately foul Rowles

Rowles gets the 1st. And the 2nd. Rowles has 25 pts. TAMCC calls a time out

0:40, Up 66-60

Burditt picks off the bad pass from TAMCC's PF Wormley. Long outlet to Thomas who is ahead of everybody else. Slam dunk! TAMCC calls another time out

0:28, Up 68-60

Kamouna missed the shot. Driver gets the offensive rebound. Thomas fouls Driver immediately. Smart play; it's only our 4th team foul. 0:10 left. They missed a desperation 3. Game over

Other Notes
1. After cutting down our lead to 2 in the 2:39 mark, 62-60, TAMCC went scoreless for the remainder of the game. Their inability to get the ball to their main men, Driver and Kamouna, cost them the game.
2. Both teams failed miserably from the outside; TAMCC shot 4-21 (19%) from 3PT, ours only a little better at 3-11 (27%)
3. TAMCC's C Regie Kamouna went scoreless in the 2nd half, while SG Tony Driver finished with only 5 pts

Tip off (1st Half)

15:35, Up 14-6
Rowles very aggressive on offense early, with 13 pts and 4 rebs.

10:24, Up 24-11
UTA's C Seabrooks got into foul trouble early, which is the reason why we are dominating the boards, 13-3

7:12, Up 29-13

Halftime, Up 45-24
Rowles and Brurditt with 15 and 14 pts respectively. Off rebs are 8-2. We have a big lead again; I reminded the guys not to fall asleep in the 2nd half, as it seems to become a habit of ours

Start of 2nd Half

15:27, Up 49-28
UTA scored 4 quick pts, and I thought here we go again. Good thing we quickly answered back. F Griffin has 4 fouls

11:38, Up 54-32
Both teams trading too many turnovers. We somehow lost our aggressiveness on the off boards

7:44, Up 66-42
Our seldom-used SG Paul Slater just hit a 3 to push the lead to 24. UTA is not coming back on this one. Will start resting my starters.

1/16/96: #15 Sam Houston St (17-0, 4-0) @ Texas San Antonio (8-9, 3-1)
UTSA is -3 in team prestige

Scouting Report
1. Primary defense: 2-3 zone
2. Offense focus: Balanced
3. Key players: SG Keith Anderson (16.2 ppg); the addition of FR C Chris Smith (8.4 ppg, 6.1 rpg) gives them an inside game to complement Anderson's outside shooting
4. For the past 2 seasons, UTSA had always given us problems with their 2-3 zone. Now that we have shifted to more outside shooting team, let's see what happens

Initial instructions
1. Offense Sets / Focus: Auto / Favor Outside
2. Offense Pace / Freedom: 7 / 65%
3. Off / Def Rebounding Crash: 9 / 8
4. Defense Sets / Intensity: Auto / 8
5. Pressure Set / Frequency: Auto / 9
Tip off (1st Half)

15:09, Tied at 4
We're shooting 1-8 FG, with Burditt going 0-5. Clearly, our worst start this season

9:53, Up 13-12
Burditt is 1-9 FG. I'll take him out for a while. Doss already grabbed 4 off rebounds

4:01, Up 26-17
Slater picked up where he left off the last game, providing 8 pts off the bench. I'll let Burditt stay in the bench for the rest of the half

Halftime, Up 32-22
Slater connected on 2-2 3PTs. F Griffin was the only other consistent shooter we had, with 9 pts. Burditt played only 11 mins, scoring 3 pts. UTSA is shooting 34% FG; SG Keith Anderson with 6 pts.

Start of 2nd Half

14:09, Up 36-32
UTSA's SG Anderson already with 5 pts in the 2nd half. Burditt continues to struggle with 2-14 FG. I'll bring in Slater again, to play alongside Burditt

9:08, Down 44-47
We'll switch to use man exclusively, and increase defensive intensity

We regained the lead at 7:24 mark, 52-51, while Burditt was resting on the bench.

UTSA connected on a 3. They are suddenly hitting those outside shots now. Down 2 again.

F Griffin threw the ball away; his 4th turn over. On the other hand, UTSA gets 2 pts inside the paint. Down 4. I'll bring Burditt back on the next deadball

Burditt is in the game. Burditt missing again from 3; he is 0-6 beyond the arc. Rowles grabs the off board. Missed the follow up but he got fouled. Split his charities. Down 3

F Griffin commits another foul. His 4th. 2 FTs for UTSA. They sink both. Down 5. I'll bring back Thomas for Slater. Also in is K Griffin, so my entire starting lineup is on the floor

5:39, Down 53-58

Finally, Burditt sinks one from deep. His 1st 3 of the game, after missing his first 6 attempts. Down 2

UTSA missed. Rowles with another rebound. We setup a play. But Birditt was called for traveling. UTSA ball.

UTSA having difficulty putting up a shot. 7 secs on the shot clock. BUrditt stole the pass! Burditt outlets to Thomas. Good transition defense by UTSA. Thomas passes back to Burditt. Burditt lets one go. It's good. We're tied

4:06, Tied at 58

UTSA's PG Hamp Smith drives to the basket. He puts up a shot, but he got rejected by F Griffin. F Griffin recovers the ball. Pass to Thomas. Thomas to Rowles on the low post. Pass back to Thomas. Thomas with the shot, and he rattles one home! We're on a 7-0 run

3:32, Up 60-58

UTSA turns the ball over again. Doss with the steal. Rowles, with his 6-11 frame, running on the break. Doss with the long pass to Rowles. Rowles is taking it straight to the hole. Slam dunk!

3:17, Up 62-58

UTSA's Smith on the low post. Smith puts up a shot, but Rowles swatted the ball away. UTSA calls a time out (their timeout was somehow late, IMO). I'll bring back Slater for Thomas, who is tired

On their ensuing play, another badd pass by UTSA. Ross with the steal. Outlet to K Griffin, but K Griffin missed the easy layup. Last touch on us. UTSA ball. Wasted opportunity there

UTSA opting to go to their C Smith again at the post. He makes a move. Too many steps said the ref. Another turn over for UTSA

Burditt with the ball. Traveling violation also on Burditt. Both teams wasting their chances

UTSA's leading scorer SG Anderson can't put up a shot. Slater doing a good job on defense. Anderson forced to pass to their PF Carey. Carey with an ill-advised 3. Miss. Burditt rebounds

Rowles on the low post. Rowles put up a shot. Block by UTSA's C Smith. But Rowles recovers the ball. He shoots again. It's good!

1:18, Up 64-58

And yet another turn over for UTSA. Rowles with the steal. Pass to F Griffin. I call timeout. Settle things down. 1:02, Up 6

K Griffin hits a short jumper. Timeout UTSA. Up 8

Finally UTSA's Anderson able to get up a shot. Long 3. It's good. Lead down to 5.

UTSA immediately fouls. But only their 6th. I'll put in a 4 guard lineup. They foul K Griffin. 1-and-1.

K Griffin missed the front end of the 1-and-1. UTSA rebounds, and call a time out. My defensive and rebounding unit goes back in

F Griffin fouls their PG. Not a good foul. It put us in penalty. F Griffin fouls out

UTSA missed the froent end of their 1-and-1 as well. Doss rebounds. I immediately called for a time out, to bring in my guards

Thomas got fouled. He makes both. That should do it. 0:16 left, Up 7

Other Notes
1. Burditt shot 4-17 FG, but his 5 straight pts with about 5 mins left in the game were very timely, which brought us back in the game after UTSA took a 5 point lead. That was enough to inspire the whole team as we go on a 13-0 run, turning a 5 pt deficit into an 8 pt lead.
2. UTSA had every opportunity to win this game; they just didn't execute in the end with those barrage of turn overs.
3. UTSA's SG Keith Anderson finished with 21 pts, 3-4 3PT.

Halftime, Up 35-24
TEXST committed 14 fouls, which lead us shooting 16-21 FTs. Both teams shooting 30% FG

Halftime, Up 33-22
Our 41% FG allowing NIC to be within striking distance. Burditt in double figures with 11 pts

Start of 2nd Half

15:39, Up 44-30
Both teams beginning to shoot a little better.

10:57, Up 50-39
NIC is actually shooting better than us.

7:32, Up 58-47
Burditt back on the floor. I would have expected less playing time for my starters today, but NIC simply won't go away; they are all on the floor now

Our transition game went up a notch in the final stretch in the game, allowing us to pull away from NIC.
