Read something from the UConn A. D. just the other day that said he is no longer seeking out a conference to join. That has to mean he was rejected by the ACC (which we knew, Boston College will never let us in), and the Big Ten, and there's really nowhere to go. As to football I am NOT a football fan, and UConn isn't going anywhere in that sport, at least for the foreseeable future. I guess I want to return to a world that no longer exists- thus DDS:CB2 and I'll probably skip any update or mod that gets me into the new conference alignments. I like this world, even if it's only a fantasy world. But then reality is overrated.

ACC won't be an NCAA conference 5 years from now either. They are no more bowl division football conference than the America East is, of for that matter the new Big East is! UConn just needs to hang on, like the other 340 some odd teams in the NCAA not being serviced by them. When it all irons out, a lot of the early puddle jumpers like Creighton are going to be sorry they affiliated themselves with a conference half a continent away. you want to return to a world that no longer exists and I want to jump forward to the world that is going to exist! lol

Time Warp

Postby PointGuard » Fri Sep 27, 2013 5:46 pm

This was the longest “4 days” between games that’s ever been…so long that I had to re-acquaint myself with this dynasty. I figured that if I had to do that, others probably would need some reminders about what’s occurred thus far and what’s up with the present team.

Background snapshot:

Perry “QM” McMullin grew up up in a large Catholic working-class family in Philadephia, playing high school base at Roman Catholic High School, then college ball at Seattle University. He then became an assistant to his college head coach at two Jesuit colleges, Seattle U and Loyola Marymount. At the age of 28, he was hired at CSU Bakersfield to take over a moribund basketball program at a low-prestige college.

Coach QM McMullin’s record:

2011-2012: 16-16, 8-6 (2nd place tie in conference), Won conference tourny, 1st Round of NCAA
2012-2013: 15-14, 8-6 (3rd place tie in conference)
2013-2014: 18-10, 9-5 (1st place tie in conference)
2014-2015: 26-6, 11-3 (2nd place in conference, Won conference tourny, 20th ranked, 2nd Round of NCAA
2015-2016: 23-8, 9-5, 2nd place in conference, Won conference tourny, 20th Ranked, 1st Round of NCAA

The 2016-2017 CSU Bakersfield Roadrunners Starting Lineup:

Point Guard: Jerry Yearwood, 6-1, Jr, Juco transfer from Mount Dora, FL—4.0/4.5 stars.
Shooting Guard: Brett Holt, 6-2, Jr, Juco transfer from Beaufort, NC—3.0/4.0 stars.
Small Forward: Mitchell Jarmond, 6-6, Jr, El Monte, CA—3.0/4.0 stars.
Power Forward: Awvee Calton, 6-8, Sr, Chicago, IL—4.0/5.0 stars.
Center: Jeff Gilbert, 6-8, Jr, Juco transfer from Volga, SD—4.5/5.0 stars.

Game #11

Postby PointGuard » Fri Sep 27, 2013 5:48 pm

Game #11; Dec. 20, 2016: CSU Bakersfield Roadrunners (8-2) at #10 Florida State Seminoles (9-2)

We jump out of the frying pan and into the fire as we move on to play #10 Florida State on their home court. Their SG Jamar Seals is scoring 24.6 ppg and their center Tyrone Jordan is scoring 11.3 ppg and hauling down 10.6 rpg. Both are sophomores. The Seminoles beat our last opponent, Iowa, 76-53.

We took an early lead as our defense clamped down on the Seminoles. But our offense sputtered throughout the half and we gradually fell behind to end the half down 34-26. Jeff Gilbert led our scoring with 9 points.

In the second half our offense went into hibernation allowing Florida State to steadily pull away for an easy victory.

Final Score: Florida State-67, CSU Bakersfield-46. CSU Bakersfield season record: 8-3.

Scoring leaders: Gilbert-13, Calton-8, Little-8.

Rebound leaders: Gilbert-16, Calton-6.

Assist leaders: Holt-4.

Player of the Game: Florida State’s SF Andy Guyton-18 pts, 1 steal.

Coach’s Pat on the Back Award: C Jeff Gilbert-13 pts, 16 reb, 1 assist, 2 steals, 1 block.

Other notes: We hit just 29% of our shots while allowing Florida State to can 48% of theirs. While Jeff Gilbert played very well, no one else did and the only other thing we did well was hold Florida State's high-scoring SG Jamar Seals to 9 points on 2 for 7 shooting.

One of my assistant coaches advised me that Mark Saunders and Marcelle Pastner got into a loud argument after the game, but I figured they were just letting off some steam following our lopsided loss, so took no action.

Game #12

Postby PointGuard » Sat Sep 28, 2013 12:36 am

Game #12; Dec. 23, 2016: Charleston Cougars (3-7) at CSU Bakersfield Roadrunners (8-3)

Charleston has yet to win on the road, but nearly upset #24 UCLA, losing by just 2 points. Scoring is spread evenly among their starters.

Hitting 7 of our first 9 shots, we jumped out to a 16-6 lead. Although our shooting cooled somewhat after that, we still finished the half hitting 54% of our shots plus we forced the Cougars to make 13 turnovers (while making just 3 ourselves). The halftime score stood at 46-29. Brett Holt’s 12 points led our scoring. When I looked over the halftime stats though, I found that we had been out-rebounded 22-13 and the Cougars had pulled down 9 offensive rebounds while we had just 2. I tore into our guys about their failure to box out and lack of tenacity on the boards.

We continued to pull away in the 2nd half and cruised to an easy win while playing our entire bench.

Final Score: CSU Bakersfield-80, Charleston-56. CSU Bakersfield season record: 9-3.

Scoring leaders: Holt-14, Yearwood-12, Calton-11, Jarmond-10, Gilbert-8, Masters-8.

Rebound leaders: Pastner-6, Gilbert-6, Calton-5.

Assist leaders: Yearwood-4, Jarmond-3, Gilbert-3.

Player of the Game: PG Jerry Yearwood-12 pts, 2 reb, 4 assists, 2 steals, 1 block.

Coach’s Pat on the Back Award: SF Mitchell Jarmond-10 pts, 2 reb, 3 assists, 1 block.

Other notes: My half time diatribe worked as we asserted dominance on the boards in the 2nd half and nearly erased the rebounding advantage they had built in the first half, finishing with 34 rebounds to Charleston’s 36. We held a 21-10 turnover advantage and outshot the Cougars 49% to 39%.

PF Mike Dotson sustained another injury, straining his calf and will likely miss the next 2 games.

Our RPI is 27th best in the nation.

Game #13

Postby PointGuard » Mon Sep 30, 2013 8:25 pm

Game #13; Dec. 27, 2016: CSU Bakersfield Roadrunners (9-3) at Fresno State Bulldogs (6-6)

While Fresno State doesn’t have any wins against strong teams, they nearly beat #6 Florida and #11 New Mexico. They employ a 1-2-2 zone defense which may cause us problems. Their top player is SF Nick Johnson who is scoring 12.6 ppg and pulling down 4.3 rpg. Fortunately their PG Marcus Davis doesn’t shoot too much since he’s hitting 55% of his FG attempts including 51% from 3-point distance.

We fell behind 9-2 before finally making our first FG 4 minutes into the game. Fresno State took us to school in the first half. They outshot us 50% to 43% (and 55% to 17% from outside the arc) and pulled down 19 rebounds to our 10. We fell behind by 20 before cutting their lead to 45-31 at the buzzer. Lionel Benjamin led our scoring with 7 points.

Things didn’t improve for us in the 2nd half (ok, ok, we sucked!). The Bulldogs opened a 28 point lead and we could never make a big enough run to put a scare into them.

Final Score: Fresno State-73, CSU Bakersfield-55. CSU Bakersfield season record: 9-4.

Scoring leaders: Gilbert-12, Jarmond-8, Pastner-8.

Rebound leaders: Gilbert-6

Assist leaders: Yearwood-7, Masters-3, Jarmond-3, Benjamin-3.

Player of the Game: Fresno State’s C Jabahri Holdan-13 pts, 6 reb, 1 assist, 2 steals.

Coach’s Pat on the Back Award: C Jeff Gilbert-12 pt, 6 reb, 1 steal, 1 block.

Other notes: Fresno State outshot us 46% to 40% (and also hit 46% of their 3’s while we could only convert 10% of ours). They held a 36-27 rebounding advantage.
