Jess Wynn, to do the impossible

3 more wins

Postby Wayne23 » Sun May 05, 2013 7:53 pm

At 3-9, 1-2 IUPU- Fort Wayne. They’re pretty awful.

1/5: 1st half was a rerun of last game, up 26-23 at the half.

Their 2 was lighting us up (18 pts). I put in a D that was aimed at stopping him. I got a little loud about our 12 TOs.

We came out strong and built the lead to 15. They tried to get back in but never got closer than 6. At the end it was 61-53.

+6, -2 (only 5 TOs in the 2nd), 45-32% shooting.

14, 4, 4, 2 for Slak, 12, 6 for Carth, 10, 3, 2 for Henry, 6, 6 for Holden. Another game that was not very well played.

Dad and I talked for a long time. He thinks the midseason fatigue may be setting in. He suggested practices with short intense bursts followed by chalk talk, shooting practice, walk throughs, things like that, at least for awhile. I’ll give it a try.

7-6, 4-0 South Dakota, tied with us for 1st place, are in next. Lost their 1st 5 this year, 7-1 since. If we play we should win but if we’re like we’ve been in the last two there could be trouble.

1/9: The usual close first half. Slak got his 2nd foul at 10:22, but their PG had already gotten his. Rein was hitting every shot (19 in the half).

As has happened lately we took over in the 2nd but it took awhile. At the 7 minute mark it was tied but from there on it was all us. We built to a 15 point lead and won 74-63.

31, 5 for Rein, 7, 12, 1, 1 for Bean, 8, 5, 5 for Slak, 12, 2 for Henry.

Dad and I talk about our TOs, 14.2 per game. No obvious solutions but there are things to try. It’s a good discussion.

At 5-9, 0-5 ORU. Not their usual team or season. No D, sloppy.

1/12: We jumped out to an early lead for once. Did it mostly without Rein, who picked up 2 quick fouls. We owned the boards and hit most of our shots.

In the second Rein’s foul woes continued. He fouled out playing only 14 minutes. It didn’t matter. We led by as much as 29 before winning 88-70. The bench got lots of time.

+19, -6 (16 TOs so no change there), 58-42%.

11, 7, 9, 1 for Slak, 18 for Bean, 17 each for Alex and Henry. Carth and Holden also played well.

Alex hurt his back and could miss a game.

14-1, 6-0.

Still winning but not always playing great ball

Postby Wayne23 » Mon May 06, 2013 4:06 am

8-7, 4-2 Oakland is in. They’re alone in 3rd place. Beat Michigan, there, which is pretty impressive. They’re inconsistent.

1/16: We could do no wrong in the 1st, 37-13.

I played a lot of bench in the 2nd. The final was 66-42. Never a game.

+8, +5 (6 TOs), 47-29%.

26, 6, 3, 2 for Henry.

Evans hurt his back, out about a week. Alex is 100%.

At 4-12, 2-5 IUPU-Indianapolis. Weak schedule, not much D.

1/19: We led all the way in the 1st but we couldn’t shake them. Finally built the lead to 33-22 at the half. D was fine.

We got it to 16 early in the 2nd then they came back, but never closer than 4. 70-60 at the end. Never any danger.

+12, +1, 43-35%.

19, 10 for Alex, 11, 6, 7, 1, 2 for Slak, and the other starters and Henry all put up numbers but it didn’t feel like we were at our best.

Dad says not to push too hard in practice. It’s a long season and the legs need to rest. Use practice for teaching and run what we need to run, at full speed, but don’t burn out the legs for no good reason.

11-6, 5-3 Southern Utah is in. Another team that really didn’t play anyone in the pre-conf. season. They’re good for this conf., but if we play we should be fine.

1/23: We played like we were running in wet cement. 21-21 at the half.
I climbed all over them at the half. D was fine but they stood around on O. I told them I wanted to see movement and sharp cuts.

Didn’t really get what I wanted. We were completely flat. Slak was in foul trouble throughout the 2nd half.

With 3:28 left we were down 2. At the media time out I jumped on the guys again. Henry scored a 3, then Slak scored another one and we were up 4.

I thought we’d gallop away but we didn’t. At the end it was 55-52 but it didn’t feel like a win.

Dad and I talk all night yet again. He says not to overreact but instead to find things to praise. Hm. Oh well, I’ll try it. He didn’t win all those games and titles by being wrong.

A loss and a big bounce back

Postby Wayne23 » Mon May 06, 2013 4:52 am

At 11-7, 4-5 UMKC. Not doing as well as they expected to do. Starting SF flunked off the team, starting PG tore his ACL, backup PF broke an ankle, which explains it. They’ve lost 4 of 5. We won by 13 at home.

1/26: Flat again. We can’t get anything going in the 1st and we never lead. We get it to 25-27 at the half but except for rebounding we aren’t doing much well.

I talk about TOs (11), lack of ball movement and offensive movement.

The usual 2nd half bounce back never happens. We go down 10, it stays between 5-10 for the entire half and it’s 60-67 at the end. We never showed up.

+11, -15 (18 TOs and they had 3, which means we put no pressure on the ball).

Time to do some serious thinking. I ask Dad to come here for a couple of weeks and he agrees.

After a long staff meeting with Dad we decide we’ll go small for awhile and give Henry as many of Moon and Evans’ minutes as possible and even some of Holden’s. We’re essentially going to play 6 guys.

1/29: SAT scores are out. Some of the guys we were hoping wouldn’t hit the score did but we’re chasing a few new guys who didn’t. We’ll see what happens.

10-9, 6-4 North Dakota State is in. We won by 14 there. They’ve won 4 straight and 6 of 7. They didn’t play a lot of D for most of the year but they’re playing well now. We’re hoping for a bounce back game.

1/30: And what a bounce it was! 51-28 at the half. We did everything well.

In the 2nd I played a lot of bench but we held our lead. The final was 81-58.

+11, +9, 47-38% shooting.

23, 4, 4, 4 for Rein, 17, 5 for Henry, 13, 7, 9, 2 for Slak, 14, 6, 1 for Alex, 8, 7, 4, 2, 1 for Carth.

Part of it is Dad. Having him around seems to energize my guys, as it did last year and the year before. The guy’s a legend and the kids know it and want to look good for him.

We’re up 2 on South Dakota and at least 4 on everyone else.

At 6-14, 4-7 Western Illinois next. Beat them by only 7 at home but they’ve been losing more than winning lately. D is a big problem.

2/2: Slak picks up 2 in the first minute. We go down by 13 before we can turn it around but we finally do when I raise the D level to 8. At the half we’re almost there, 29-31.

I tell the guys to work it inside and I tell Slak to stay in the game.

We do and he doesn’t. Slak plays a total of 10 minutes for the game but we work it inside regularly in the 2nd and take control of the game. The lead gets to 16 late and we win by that margin, 71-55.

+7, +1, 45-38%.

18, 5, 4, 2 for Bean, 16, 7, 1, 1, 1 for Alex, 9, 11 for Carth, 12, 5, 4, 1 for Rein. The bench bailed Slak out.

Now our lead is 3 games with 6 to play.

Ranked! For the first time in program history, #21, RPI #14. BIG news in Brookings.

We keep winning

Postby Wayne23 » Mon May 06, 2013 9:19 am

8-13, 6-6 IUPU-Fort Wayne is in. We won by only 8 there. They’ve won 4 straight. Their 2 can score but they don’t play much D and they’re sloppy.

2/6: Solid 1st half. We shot well, played good D and took care of the ball, 39-28.

More of the same in the 2nd, extending the lead to as many as 25. The final was 70-51.

+6, +9, 45-37%. Fouls were 11-18.

17, 6, 3, 4 for Rein, 17, 6, 1 for Bean, 11, 6, 2, 1 for Henry.

Lead is now 4 games.

At 11-11, 8-5, 2nd place South Dakota. Lost their last 3. Beat them by 11 at home. They can be tough on their own turf.

2/9: They went up by as many as 5 in the 1st. Then both their 1 and 4 picked up foul #2 and we closed in, leading 39-35 at the half. #2 for Rein came at 1:01.

We talked about stopping the 3, they got 7 of them in the 1st.

We got out on the 3 point shooters and held them to 3 threes in the 2nd. We built the lead to 19 before winning 80-68.

+8, -1 (11 TOs), 45-31%, fouls were 14-24.

22, 5, 3 for Slak, 15, 12, 2, 1, 1 for Alex, 17, 5, 2, 1 for Rein.

We’re up 4 with 4 to play.

#17, RPI #14. 21-2, 13-1.

8-15, 3-11, last place ORU is in. Beat them by 18 there. Won their last 2, 1st 2 game win streak of the season. They don’t play D or4 take care of the ball.

2/13: We don’t have a great 1st 1/2. We’re a little flat, and we don’t get out on the shooters. 33-29.

We remind them about getting a hand in the shooter’s face as well as working to get open on O.

Much better in the 2nd. We stop the outside shooters and get lots of open looks. 77-54 at the end.

+13, +3, 48-26%.

22, 11, 1 for Alex, 14, 9, 4 for Henry, 14, 4, 8 for Slak, 12, 6 for Bean, 7, 7, 3 for Carth. Rein was awful, fouled out playing 9 minutes. Holden filled in with 29 minutes, 6, 5, 2 and good D.

We clinched the conference, up 5 games.

End of the regular season

Postby Wayne23 » Tue May 07, 2013 5:08 pm

Dad flies back home. He really turned us around, once again. He says he’ll stay with us for the entire postseason.

At 12-12, 8-7 Oakland. Won by 24 at our place. They won 4 in a row and then lost 1.

2/16: They give us some trouble early, going up by 6. We battle but every time we catch them they hit a 3. Finally, we score the last 6 of the half and go in up 35-32.

At halftime we work on stopping the threes (They hit 6).

And we do stop them (They hit 1 in the 2nd). We own the 2nd half, the final is 71-52.

+15, -1, 46-35%, fouls were 9-18.

18, 4, 3 for Rein, 13, 5, 5 for Slak, 10, 9, 2, 2 for Alex. Carth, Henry, Bean and Holden also had good games.

Still #17, RPI #12.

IUPU-Indianapolis is in. We beat them by 10 there. Lost their last 4, 5 of 6, 8 of 10. Starting PF is hurt.

2/20: No contest. 39-26 at the half and everything was clicking.

It got much better in the 2nd. 83-53 at the end.

+10, +1, 54-35%.

24, 8, 1, 1, 1 for Alex, 15, 8, 3 for Henry, 12 each for Carth and Bean, 11 for Rein, Slak played well. The big 6 were on their game.

Holden sprained a finger. Out about a week.

We close out the regular season at 15-11, 9-8 Southern Utah. Won by only 3 at home. They are 12-0 at home. This could be a challenge.

2/23: They owned us in the 1st. Rein and Slak got in early foul trouble and we couldn’t make shots. Down 21-31 at the break.

I told my guards they needed to stay in the game if we planned to win this one.

They didn’t and we didn’t. Rein fouled out in 24 minutes and Rein in 22. 51-61. WE never made a serious run at them.

-4, +2, 32-43%, 17 fouls to 13. One of our worst games of the season, only the BC game challenges for that title. Dad’s back in a couple of days.

We end the regular season 24-3, 16-2, winning the conf. by 5 games, but I don’t like ending on a loss.

Hm, we rise to #16, RPI #17.

The conference tourney

Postby Wayne23 » Tue May 07, 2013 8:54 pm

3/1: Play in day. Dad is back in town and at our practices as well as with me watching the play in games.

3/2: 2nd round of play ins. The favorites all lose so we’ll play Western Illinois who won 2 rounds of play ins after finishing dead last. 8-21, 4-14; they lost 9 in a row before the play in wins. We beat ‘em by 7 at home, 16 on the road. 2 starters gone, 1 to grades, 1 to ACL.

3/3: We really didn’t think they could stay with us and they couldn’t. 37-22 at the half.

All I could say at halftime was, “Keep doing what you’re doing.”

They did, 80-55.

+5, +6, 54-42%.

26, 10, 1, 2 for Alex, 12 each for Bean and Rein. The other 3 members of the big 6 also played well, as did Holden.

16-14, 9-9, 7th in the conf. North Dakota State for the title. Beat them by 14 there and 23 at home. We know we’re the better team but we want our guys sharp. There are no guarantees.

3/4: Rough start. They take a quick lead and build it to 10 at 11:23. I raise the level to 8 and double their SF, who has already hit 4 threes. We’re turning it over so we talk about that. Things improve, their SF only hits one more three in the half and we go in down only 38-41.

At the half we work on both the D and the lack of offensive movement. I remind the guys that this is for the conference title.

We hold their 3 to three points in the 2nd half, work in and out, and score from both, and take charge of the game fairly early in the half. At the end it’s 74-57 and we’re the champs.

+7, -1 (16 TOs, which we’ll work on), 53-30%.

18, 6, 3, 1, 1 for Alex, whose game has really come together lately, 16 each fro Henry and Rein, 7, 10, 1, 1, 2 for Carth, 11 RBs for Bean. Now to wait to see where we’re going and how high we’re seeded. I can see us getting a #4 or a #5 seed.

#15, RPI #16. 26-3, 16-2, and the title.

The NCAA tourney and the end of the season

Postby Wayne23 » Wed May 08, 2013 3:04 am

3/12: Pete Williams, #38, PG, committed.

Selection Day. Lots of excitement as we all gather around to watch.

#6 East. We’ll Play #11 Fordham, 18-11. #1 seed is #1 UCLA, #2 is #8 Maryland, #3 is #10 Florida, who we’ll probably play 2nd is we win, but Fordham is no pushover. They were 11-5, 3rd in the Atlantic 10 before losing in the first round. They give up points, they score them as well. Their SG gets 22 per. We’ll need to play well. We’re a 2 point favorite.

3/14: UMKC lost in the 1st round of the CHI.

3/16: Big time shoot out in the 1st. We can’t stop their SG, they can’t stop Lance Henry. The lead swings back and forth. They’re up by 8 early, we catch them and take a 6 point lead, they come back and go up 4. At the half it’s 46-42. Their 2 has 20, Henry has 16.

We talk about options for the 2nd. We can either stop the SG and let others score, or stop everyone else and let him score. We decide to stop him because we don’t think their other guys can score enough; we’ll double him.

On O we want to involve more people and spread the scoring around.

For the first ten minutes the score continues to go back and forth.

At that point, since no one is in any foul trouble I raise the D level to 9, and continue doubling the SG, which is working. The other guys are scoring, but not consistently. We’re up only 2, mostly because shots aren’t dropping.

I tell the guys we want back door cuts and drives to the hoop. The plan works, Their 2 gets only 9 for the half and the rest of their guys get 20, which is about what they got in the first.

We score 14 inside and make enough outside shots to hold on. When Henry hits a 3 at 1:01, we’re up 8 and home free. The final is 77-71.

-5, even, 40-34%.

23, 2, 1, 3, 1 for Henry, 14, 6, 7, 1 for Slak, 14, 4, 3, 1, 2 for Rein, 9, 10, 2 for Alex, 11, 3, 1 for Bean, 4, 8, 4, 1, 2 for Carth.

Tough matchup next, #3 seed, #10 ranked Florida, 22-8, 13-3. They lost in the first round or they would have been a #2 or possibly a #1 seed.

They lost 3 of their last 5. They play solid D. Their 2 gets 24.6 per. These guys are tough, very tough.

3/18: We play them even in the 1st, answering every run with one of our own. 27-28 at the half. Their 2 has 18 but no one else is doing much.

At the half we simply want to keep doing what we’re doing.

It doesn’t quite work out that way. Rein picks up foul #3 at 19:02, then Slak follows at 17:57. Slak gets #4 at 14:33 and the Rein at 11, 21, and we’re in big trouble.

Down only 6 but with our 1 and 2 needing to sit, and to be really careful when they’re in. we can’t play our game. Slak fouls out at 7:02, Rein at 5:11, and we simply don’t have the horses. We keep it close, keep getting it to 2 points, 1 point, but we never quite catch up.

At the end it’s 51-60.

The stats were all close, even fouls, but they didn’t have anyone with more than 3 so they played who they wanted to play.

15, 5, 2, 1, 1 for Rein, 12, 1, 3 for Henry, 6, 15, 1 for Alex, but we were outclassed.

27-4, I have to call that a damn good year, all in all.

Aaron Raher, #71 C committed. We’re going after a few other guys.

Dad wonders if I’ll get any decent offers. No way to know until they come, usually a few days after the end of the season in April. He’s heading home but I’ll consult with him if any offers worth considering do come in. My ratings are still low though.

4/1: #1 UCLA vs. #3 North Carolina, and #14 Duke vs. #5 Syracuse in the Final Four. I’m not there though, watching from home. Dad’s there, and he calls to say some A.D.’s are asking about me.

North Carolina and Syracuse win.

4/3: NC by 14 for the title.

4/4: Awards: Rex Alex is freshman of the year, defensive POY, 1st team along with Josh Rein. Josh Slak makes 2nd team. I get Coach of the year which is cool!

4/9: Davin Young, #99 PG commits. Going after 3 more.

Hartford offers. Dad and I discuss it deep into the night. It’s tempting, mostly because it’s home, but in the end it’s not enough of a step up to matter, and I think we’ll do much better here, we’ll have more talent.

4/16: Carl Chang, #57 PG commits.

Need 2 assistants. Mel Davis will be my recruiter and Brooks Lewis my scout. Davis should be decent, not great, and Lewis is the best I could get with the $ I have.

4/23: I want a budget increase. I get $6,550. I’ll take it.

My numbers are: Offense: 11, Defense: 17, Recruiting: 12, Scouting: 3, Player Development: 14, Reputation: 15. My record is 71-25, .740. Hopefully this next season will be my last in South Dakota, but we’ll see. We’re losing Slak and 3 subs who didn’t play a lot so we can be at least as good as we were this year.

5/1 through exhibitions

Postby Wayne23 » Thu May 09, 2013 8:19 pm

5/1: Great Plains Gold, National Basic.

6/5: Going for 2 recruits. Got a PG.

6/25: We decide to go to the Houston Camp.

6/26: 3 scholarships to fill. I’d like 2 bigs and a guard but we’ll see. Looking at 14 guys, 7 PGs, 2 SGs, 2 SFs, 3 Cs. Gotta take what’s out there and not many bigs we felt we would have had a shot at. That can change, of course.

6/29: I got a huge shock. Mom called to tell me that she will be spending the next 9-12 months working at the Cheyenne reservation just outside of Brookings. She and dad are looking to rent a house here.

Dad got on the phone and said he hoped to be my “fourth assistant.” Great news that they’ll both be here and terrific news that dad will be with me for the whole season. The NCAA has a “Director of Basketball Operations” position. We’ve never filled it here but I plan to ask Truck Ford about it tomorrow. It would allow dad to sit on the bench during games.

6/30: Truck says there’s not much in the budget for salary but he’d love to find a way to do this. The publicity of having dad on staff would be great.

7/1: Truck found $25,000. It’s laughable considering the kind of money dad made in the past but since he doesn’t need or care about the money he signs.

7/11: Kid camps start. Both weeks sold out with dad on staff, and some impressive kids will be here.

7/25: I like my team, strong starting 5, and 4 solid guys on the bench. I think we’ll do well. Some kids who we will definitely pursue, others too young for that right now but we’ll follow them, offer scholarships to our camp for next year.

Only one recruit showing any interest at all.

8/14: Still just that one guy.

8/21: We offer to 3, a PG, an SF, a C. Optimistic with the SF (they guy who has shown interest), hopeful with the other two, who are poor students, which can work for us.

8/28: The PG is showing a little interest.

9/11: Visits. We’ll go to four homes and hope.

9/18: Trying to beef up the schedule. Nobody much wants to come to our place but we’re playing stringer teams at home and definitely playing stronger teams on the road. Hope we don’t regret it but I want to build my numbers and leave for a better school and this is the way to do it.

9/25: Nothing but rejection from the recruits but maybe their SAT scores will change that. We’ve got the $ to keep courting them and we will.

10/2: First day of practice, always a great day.
We’re picked to finish 1st in conference.

11/2: First exhibition is vs. Nebraska-Omaha.

42-28 at the half.

71-57. +4, -2, 50-28%. Fouls 20-15. Alex played really well.

11/6: Second exhibition is vs. Nebraska-Omaha.

44-33 at the half. Getting terribly outrebounded.

74-58. -10, +5, 51-40%. Will and Alex played well.

Decision time. No decisions to make, at least for now. We’ll go with the rotation as is.

3-0 to start the season

Postby Wayne23 » Fri May 10, 2013 2:36 pm

Well, we thought it over. We’re going to play Rein, Carth, Raher and Burke about the same amount of time to see who emerges. We’ll go with the rotation as is otherwise.

Dad has been great. He’s been very careful about not taking over for me, and even about not appearing to be the “final authority.” He says what he needs to say but not usually first. He wants all of us to have input into decisions. Of course what he says carries lots of weight. With his experience and success that’s natural. There are times when he says nothing. I think that means he wants me to try something that I’ve talked about and see what happens.

It’s been great having mom around, too. We get to spend time together as a family and I find that I like those times very much. I was never very close to my older brother and sister, not that I don’t get along with them, it’s just that the age difference was too great for us to do much together when I was a kid.

We begin at Wichita State. Not much to go on. PG and SF may be their best.

11/14: Great start. We went down early but not for long. 40-28 at the half.

71-50 at the end. Henry and the starters played well. Rex Alex led us- 19 and 10.

+6 RBs, 12 TOs, 48-35% shooting. Fouls were 7-13. I like what I saw.

At 1-0 Wyoming next. They beat a decent Missouri team by 4 at home. They score outside but they aren’t good with the ball.

11/17: Again we went down early and bounced back. Up 34-25 at the half. Burke got hurt, not sure how badly. Rebounding well but we’re not taking care of the ball.

Wyoming makes it close, coming within 1 or 2 several times, but they never tie or take the lead. At the end it’s 74-68. Will leads us with 11, 8, 6, but Chang, Alex and Bean all play well.

Burke broke a finger and is out for a couple of months. We were rotating Rein, Carth and Raher with him so those three will pick up his minutes until one of them emerges.

Home debut is against 0-1 Detroit. They didn’t look very good in their opener.

11/21: Thought this might be a mismatch and it was. 41-23 at the half.

It got worse in the 2nd and wound up 74-47. Will led us again, with 18, 5, 3, but Bean, Alex and Chang all looked good, as did Henry and Raher from the bench. Rein isn’t giving us much O, and Carth isn’t looking as good as he did last year. Too soon to change anything though, we’ll give it time.

+10 RB, but 15 TOs. 52-28% shooting. Fouls were 13-5.

We need to work on ball handling. The staff meeting produced some ideas and some things to work on.

2 more wins then we finally lose one

West Virginia, 1-2, is in. This one could be a challenge given that they’re from the Big East, but they’ve lost to 2 teams that are not all that impressive and they’ve given up lots of points in all 3 games. Still, we’re preparing for a tough game. Their 2 gets 22 per.

11/24: Easier than expected. We took control early and never let go. 36-22 at the half. Great D.

It continued in the 2nd and got better really. 64-37 at the end, and we gave up 15 points in the 2nd half. It was a group effort. Alex and Bean probably had the best games, both narrowly missing double doubles.

+7 RB, only 10 TOs (Hooray!), 49-28% shooting.

Dad says he’s having lots of fun. I asked if thought about returning to being a head coach. He said not at all, it’s just too much work at this point in his life. At 74 years old, he loves doing what he’s doing, but doesn’t want to be doing more.

Mom often asks the typical mom question about when I’m going to settle down. I don’t tell her this but the answer is probably never. I like “playing the field.” I’m always dating someone but it never seems to last and I’m fine with that. If the woman I’m dating shows signs of wanting to get “serious” I’m out of there. I actually like living alone and I have zero interest in becoming a dad. Of course I’m only 25 so I suppose it’s possible that all of that will change. I kind of doubt it though.

North Carolina A & T, 1-3, is in. This doesn’t look like the most challenging game on the schedule. Their best player is hurt.

11/28: They put up more of a battle than expected. They never led by more than 4 but they hung with us for most of the 1st, 38-31 at the end.

We took over in the second and led by as many as 23. At the end it was 78-55. Alex led us with 18 and 12, Will had 16, 8, 4, Carth had 11. Rein isn’t doing a thing on O. His D is better than Carth’s. Raher plays good D but he doesn’t give us much on O. Staying as is for mow, put the right guy in for the right situation.

+8 RB and 10 TOs again. 51-36% shooting.

Another challenge, at 2-3 UNLV next. They really haven’t looked all that good so far but the potential is there. This could be dangerous if I haven’t convinced my guys that this “shark” could bite.

12/1: We controlled the 1st half. 8 guys contributing and we went in up 37-31.

Then the D forgot to show up for the 2nd half. Their SG hit 7 threes. We doubled him after the 2nd one and it had no effect. After 6 TOs in the 1st we had 12 in the 2nd. We stayed close for most of the way, leading as often as we trailed. Then they went on an 8-0 run after the last media time out to lead by 5, and we couldn’t catch up.

With under a minute left Will hit a 3 to bring it to 2 but the SG hit his final one to get it back to 5 with :07 left. We brought it up, wanting to get it inside to Rex Alex, but the pass was tipped. The buzzer went off as Bean picked it up, 73-75.

18, 6, 6 for Will, and are guys played decent offense except for the TOs, but we had no answer for their SG.

+14 RBs, -7 TOs (18), 47-43%, and 17-8 in fouls. They went 15-18 and we went 6-9. The calls against us weren’t particularly bad so no noise to make there. Oh well, 5-1 at this point isn’t bad at all.
