Will Wynn- Slow and steady and straight to the top

Just might. What a powerhouse. Actually, the only reason I'm still going with this one is the hope of getting the UConn job and building them to the same level.

12/5: Down 2, 14:44. Up 2, 9:23. Down 2, 3:22. #2 on Wall, 1:11, up 2. 33-29 at the half.

+11, +1, 33-25%. Fouls are 7-8.

15, 5, 2 for Sharp.

Up 11, 15:05. Up 19, 11:22. 68-40 at the end.

+28, +4, 38-28%. Fouls were 10-20.

Sharp hurt his hand. Out about a week. Stidham will take the Point. #10, 6-1 Georgetown is in. Weak competition.

12/8: We get the first 19. Up 25, 7:07. 42-17 at the half.

+15, -5, 50-23%. Fouls are 3-7.

8, 8, 3, 1, 3 for Reed. Stidham is doing great.

Up 33, 14:44. Up 37, 4:12, I clear the bench. 79-43 at the end.

+27, -4, 51-25%. Fouls were 8-17.

16, 15, 6, 2, 4 for Reed, 12, 9, 1, 3 for Wall, 13, 2, 2 for Hare, 9, 3, 1, 1 for Thurman, 7, 5, 3 for Stidham.

Sharp is 100%.

#18, 6-4 Arkansas is in. Up and down. Not good with the ball.

I’m going to shorten reports unless the game is close.

12/13: 67-50. There was never a danger. +21, +2 (but 19 TOs), 48-41%.

Fouls were 8-20.

23, 6, 3 for Sharp, 14, 8, 1, 2 for Wall.

We keep winning

Postby Wayne23 » Tue Apr 09, 2013 11:36 am

7-2 UNLV is next. 1 good win. They don’t play enough D.

12/15: 70-45. They never came close. +29, +4, 47-34%. Fouls were 7-17.
28, 10, 5, 1 for Wall, 20, 13, 2, 1 for Reed, 7, 8 for Thurman, 9, 3, 4, 1 for Sharp.

We’re outrebounding opponents 39.1-21.7. Scary!

#1, #1.

#14 Syracuse, 7-3, is in. Great wins, surprising losses. These guys hit the boards so let’s see how our terrific rebounders do against them.

12/19: 87-52. +13, +7, 55-30%. Fouls were 12-10. Rebounding margin was smaller than usual but not a problem.

26, 12, 2 for Wall, 13, 8, 4, 2, 2 for Thurman, 15, 2, 2, 1 for Hare.

Rematch with #24, 8-5 Purdue, at home. They’ve alternated wins and losses for their last 10 games. They won their last game. Their 3 is their scorer but their 2 lit us up last time, when we won by 35. This is the last game before conf. play starts.

12/22: 61-31. About like our first game against them. +18, +10, 44-25%. Fouls were 9-17.

16, 14, 4, 2, 1 for Wall, 13, 7, 4, 2, 3 for Reed, 1`2, 7, 5, 1, 1 for Thurman, 12, 6, 4 for Sharp.

14-0 going to conf. play.

7-4 Clemson is first, there. 61-41. +8, +6, 44-30%. Fouls were 8-19.

12/26: 24, 10, 1, 2 for Wall, 13, 5, 3 for Thurman, 5, 10, 6, 1, 1 for Reed, 8, 4, 7, 2, 1 for Sharp.

4 more wins

Postby Wayne23 » Tue Apr 09, 2013 1:24 pm

9-3 Virginia is in. Their 2 can score.

1/2: 67-34. +21, even, 52-26%. Fouls were 12-15.

27, 9, 4, 4 for Wall, 8, 11, 3 for Reed, 7, 4, 7 for Sharp.

At 9-4 Maryland. Balance but they don’t play great D.

1/5: 68-53. They hung with us for quite a while. It was tied at the half. We finally broke it open.

+10, +5, 42-37%. D could have been better.

19, 12 for Wall, 17, 4, 8, 2, 4 for Sharp, 9, 13, 3, 3, 3 for Thurman, 13, 6, 2, 3, 2 for Reed.

9-5 Florida State is in. Playing well lately. Better inside than out.

1/9: 61-44. We may have hit the “tired” portion of the season, we’re not as sharp as we’ve been.

+3, +4, 40-28%. D won this one.

20, 12, 2 for Wall, 14, 4, 5, 1 for Sharp, 11, 7, 2, 1, 3 for Thurman.

Next could be a challenge, at #10 11-4, 3-1 North Carolina. 2 and 3 average a combined 39 per game.

1/12: 60-53. Yep, first single digit win of the year.

We took a big early lead and they kept chipping away at it. In truth, we were never threatened as the final score was as close as they ever got.

+18, -3, 33-35%. Fouls were 9-21, huge diff. Their D did a great job on us, but ours was a little better.

26, 17, 1, 1, 3 for Wall- their D didn’t do much with him! 12, 7, 2, 1 for Thurman, 5, 15, 1, 2, 3 for Reed, 11, 4, 3, 2, 2 for Sharp.

62, but 5 years left on the contract. They keep making it to the big dance, going out in the 2nd round or the Sweet Sixteen (last 5 years), so that may be enough for him to keep his job. Double digit losses every year of the last 5 except one, (9 that year). He has great Attribute numbers though. I may be wasting my time waiting for him to exit. On the other hand they're 7-8 right now.

We keep going

Postby Wayne23 » Tue Apr 09, 2013 3:48 pm

BC is in, 13-3, 4-1. I don’t think they play enough D.

1/16: 76-39. They led by as much as 9 early but we turned it around and then ran away and hid.

+13, +7, 53-26%. Fouls were 9-9.

All 5 starters had good numbers.

At #25, 12-5, 4-2 NC State. They don’t seem to beat the good teams.
1/19: 72-61. It was close for almost 30 minutes. Wall was the difference, his numbers were scary!

+23, even, 36-39%. Fouls were 7-22. They needed to foul to stop us and that caught up with them.

28, 22, 4 blocks for Wall, 14, 10, 2, 1, 3 for Thurman, 9, 8, 1 for Reed, 11, 5, 4, 1, 1 for Sharp.

12-7, 2-5 Wake Forest is in.

1/23: 76-50. We were never challenged.

+20, -5 NOT happy with 17 TOs), 52-34%. Fouls were 10-19.

25, 12, 4 for Wall, and the rest of the starters put up good numbers.

At 9-10, 2-6 Miami. No.

1/26: 84-59. It took a while. They were in it for the entire first half. I kicked butts and made a couple of changes at halftime and we blew by them.

+24, -4 (only 10 TOs), 50-35%. Fouls were 5-20.

28, 15 for Wall, averaging 20.9 and 11.4. 13, 15, 3 for Thurman.

Rolling along

Postby Wayne23 » Tue Apr 09, 2013 11:24 pm

23-0, 9-0. We’re simply dominating everyone. Our starting five is scary good and at least 4 guys on the bench are just about as good as the starters.

Reed is #6 on the Norton list, Sharp #10, Thurman #16. The best player in the country, Mo Wall, is not on the list.

7-14, 3-6 Va. Tech is in. It’s on the schedule so we have to play it.

1/30: 67-31. I would have played the kid who brings the players water, but there wasn’t a uniform that fit her.

+27, +1, 58-27%. Fouls- 6-12.

Hare had an off night. The other 4 starters did whatever they wanted to do. The end of my bench was better than their starters.

At #24, 15-8, 6-4 Georgia Tech. Another up and down team.

2/2: 65-58. Our second challenge of the season. They hung in all the way.

With 93 seconds left it was tied. We scored the last 7. The great thing about that is now I know what my guys are made of. When the chips were down they responded.

+12, -4, 41-45%. Worst D of the year. Fouls were 15-30, which won it for us, but they had to foul us. Their coach didn’t complain that much at the post game press conference.

This was Chad Sharp’s game, 30, 4, 3, 3, 3, and all of the last 7 points plus a key steal late.

We have a 3 game lead.

9-13 Clemson is in. Beat them by 20 there.

2/6: 64-43. They led by 7 early. I called a TO, ripped my guys and things straightened out.

+19, +2 (17 TOs- that kind of thing is going to hurt us one of these nights), 44-32%. Fouls- 8-21.

20, 14, 2, 3, 4 for Reed. My guys seem to be taking turns.

At 12-11, 4-8 Virginia. Won by 33 at our place.

2/9: 76-61. Again, and this is getting to be a habit, we were down 7 early, then came back and dominated the rest of the game.

+13, +8, 42-48%. D was awful. Fouls- 16-21.

21, 10 for Thurman, and the other starters all put up numbers.

Reed still #6 on the Norton, Sharp up to #8, Thurman #16.

A scare, but an undefeated regular season

Postby Wayne23 » Wed Apr 10, 2013 9:17 am

14-10, 6-7 Maryland is in. Beat them by 15 there.

2/13: 70-41. +20, +11, 48-35%. Fouls- 8-14.

24, 9, 2 for Wall, 15, 10, 1 for Thurman, 14, 9, 2, 1, 4 for Reed.

At 14-11, 8-6 FL ST. Beat them by only 17 at home so this could be a challenge.

2/16: 50-47. Whew! One of those nights when we went cold- ice cold. In the 2nd half we shot 5-27. They took a 4 point lead early in the first and we came back, going up by 10 at the half. We made our first 2 shots in the 2nd and it was 34-20 (they played slow down all night).

And then the drought started and never stopped, 3-25 from then on. The 3 point margin was as close as it got, and it got to 3 when they hit a three at the buzzer, so we were never truly in danger, but it was an awful feeling. We must have blown 5-6 layups.

-9 on the boards, which may trouble me more than anything else, +9 TOs, 33-39%. Fouls- 10-17. We only shot 64.7 from the line!

16, 4, 1, 3, 3 for Reed, 10, 10, 1, 2, 3 for Thurman, 10, 8, 2, 1 for Wall. WE’ll work to fix it in practice.

#12 North Carolina, 18-8, 10-5, is in for the last regular season game. Means nothing tom us but a lot to them, 3rd place is at stake. We’ll see how well we bounce back from our worst performance of the year. Only won by 7 at their place.

2/23: 71-45. MUCH better! +22, -3 (only 10 TOs), 48-26% so our shot was back. Fouls- 9-20. Just the way I want to go to the post season!

22, 11, 4, 1, 3 for Wall, 17, 10, 2, 1, 3 for Thurman, 15 RBs for Reed.
Lots of time off to heal bruises, small injuries, and to rest.

3/5: Colin Reed drops to #7 on the Norton List. He and Mo Wall should be 1st team All Americans.

3/9: Play in day. We’ll play 14-14, 5-11 Virginia, the #9 seed. They upset Va Tech. We beat them by 33 and 15, and they lost two starters to grades.

The ACC tourney

Postby Wayne23 » Wed Apr 10, 2013 11:19 am

3/10: 74-40. . Ugly, 44-12 at the half, which kind of tells the story. +31, -2 (only 11 TOs), 47-31%. Fouls- 7-20.

14, 13, 1, 1, 1 for Wall, 21, 9 for Thurman, 8, 13, 7, 2, 4 for Reed, 17, 3, 4, 1 for Sharp.

17-12, 9-7 FL ST upset Ga. Tech, so they’re next. This was the 3 point game so we’re taking it seriously. Their starting SG turned an ankle and may not play.

3/11: 67-42. They went up early but not for long. We turned it into a rout before halftime.

+26, -2 (12 TOs), 47-30%. Fouls- 10-16.

23, 15, 4 for Wall, 15, 7, 3 for Thurman, 12, 8, 3 for Reed, 14, 6, 7 for Sharp.

It’s North Carolina for the title. Beat them by 7 and 26. They’re healthy, we’re healthy so let’s get it on!

3/12: Down 3, 17:01. #2 on Reed, 14:37, down 5. Down 7, 7:44. That’s it, man, level 8, doubling their 2 and 3, who are too open. Down 1, 4:03. We go on a late run, 45-39 at the half. Where’s the D!

+1, +1, 48-49%. Fouls- 6-7.

10, 2, 1 for Wall, 7, 2, 2 for Sharp, 7, 1, 2 for Hare, 5, 4 for Thurman. We’re in a war, and if we don’t defend our turf we won’t win it. Not happy.

Up 1, 16:44. #3 on Reed, 13:28. Damn! Down 3.

Up 2, 6:21. #4 on Reed, 4:14, up 2. I was trying to get him out but the stoppage didn’t come in time.

Going O/D. We get a steal, lay it in, get another one, lay it in, up 6, 2:03.

They miss, we miss, they miss, we turn it over. :44, up 6.

We knock it OB. We knock it OB again.

They hit a 3, :14. They foul Sharp, :12.

He hits the 1st. And the 2nd, up 5.

We go full court man which slows them down. They take a 3 at the buzzer and it misses. 78-73.

+4, +5, 50-47%. Fouls- 9-21. As has happened in every close game this season, we won it at the line.

24, 6, 2 for Wall, 18, 4, 4, 1, 1 for Sharp, 15, 3, 4, 1, 1 for Hare, 10, 8, 3, 2, 3 for Thurman, 6, 1, 4 for Stidham.

9 more points than we gave up in any other game this year. We’ll be working on that!
