I'll Be a Son of a Shark

A legitimate 1 seed and perhaps the best team in the country, and perhaps the only team that deserved to be seeded ahead of us. This one will take quite an effort. Sadly, we should not have had to face them before the final 4.

#2 Connecticut L 67-69 OT
It was a war, but we shot ourselves in the foot by blowing an 8 point lead with 1:38 to go in Regulation with a couple of huge turnovers under pressure. We had a 4 point lead with 2 minutes to go in the overtime but couldn't make that stand up either. Give the Huskies credit, they did deserve to be one of the 2 top-seeded teams in the tournament along with us. Besides the turnovers we just let them get to the offensive boards too easily late. This should have been for the national championship, not the regional final.

POG: Isaac Garren 16 points, career high 6 asts, career high 8 rebs, 1 stl. Played what was probably the best game of his career thus far.
Notable Lines:
Travann Ohl 8 pts, 2 asts. 3 rebs, 5 steals, 2 Blocks. but we really needed him to go harder on the defensive glass. At least he stayed out of foul trouble for the first time in the tournament.
Martin Ray 5 pts, 9 rebs, 4 asts. 1 stl, 2 blocks. Good luck in the NBA...we'll miss you big guy.
Kendrick English 10 pts, 3 rebs but got into serious foul trouble trying to guard their All-American Vincent Blackman

The only 2 legitimate 1 seeds Duke and Connecticut make it to the final 4 and play each other. Over-rated and over seeded at 3 UCLA will play surprising 6 seed Georgia Southern.

We finish the season 32-4, and despite not getting to the final 4 this year which we richly deserved, it was undeniably a successful season.

Martin Ray is all-conference 1st team. Houston, Angelli, and Travann Ohl are all 2nd team. I'm given coach of the year in the MWC.

Next year bring the NCAA selection committee down to New Mexico, take them into Carlsbad Caverns, and turn out the lights so they won't find their way out to make such lousy seedings.

I think there should be a minimal IQ score to be on the committee. Something higher than 10.

That last season was ridiculous. Even in real life New Mexico wouldn't have been denied a 1 seed.
