Feb 15, 2011: #2 Clemson (23-2, 13-1) @ #5 Georgia Tech (19-7, 10-4)
Expect another low scoring game here. We're winning the rebounds battle, but it was offset by our 3 turn overs.
Up 10-8, 13:37. We were enjoying a 7 pt lead earlier, but it was easily erased by GT, no thanks to our 6 turn overs.
Down 22-25, 7:50. We were not able to keep up with GT's speed in transition, and they are +8 on fast break pts.
Halftime, Down 29-42.
We got some baskets early in the 2nd half. GT has yet to convert a FG in the 2nd half, but we're being called for too many shooting fouls on the defensive end, allowing GT to score from the FT line.
Down 40-48, 12:56. We scored 2 baskets, but GT able to score 3 more FTs. GT's 1st 9 pts in the 2nd half came from the line, until they scored on a fast break, again coming from our turn over.
Down 44-53, 9:36.
4 turnovers by GT on their next 4 possessions. We got an inside basket from C Michael Jackson, and a jumper by SF Frank Dewitt, and we're knocking on the doors.
Down 48-53, 7:49. A drive by GT was answered by a 3 from PG Chris Hunter. Down 4. After a turnover by GT, we had the opportunity to cut the lead further, but we failed to convert. We got called for anotehr (we're in the penalty), and GT converts 2 FTs again.
Down 51-57, 6:08.
We turned the ball over and GT punished us again with another 2 pts in transition. We were able to score inside. GT missed and we get the ball back. SG Brett Homes missed a 3, but C Wesely Hickman with the off rebound. Hickman missed the putback but got fouled. 2 FTs. Wickman splits.
Down 54-59, 4:46.
PG Chris Hunter gets a steal. Hunter with an outlet pass to PF Adam McLean who scored on the break. Another foul called on us. 1-and-1 for GT. They miss the front end. We get the rebound. We go to C Michael Jackson inside. Jackson missed. Loose ball goes to GT. Last media timeout.
Down 56-59, 3:53.
Another foul on us. I wanted to curse the refs in front of their face, but a technical would be disastrous at this point. 1-and-1 for GT. They hit both this time.
Down 56-61, 3:46.
SF Dennis Johnson drives, gets fouled. 2 FTs. Johnson gets both FTs to fall.
Down 58-61, 3:32. We forced a turnover on GT. We run another play on C Michael Jackson. Jackson powers his way inside, and this time he scores!
Down 60-61, 2:54.
GT shoots a 3. Missed. We get the rebound. SF Dennis Johnson called for traveling. I am cursing myself why I didn't call a timeout on that play. GT also took too many steps. This time, I called a timeout.
Down 60-61, 1:56.
We'll go favor inside. SG Brett Holmes forced a pass inside. Stolen by GT! A jump shot attempt by GT didn't go in, but the refs there was contact. I felt like storming to the court and punching the ref in the face, but I don't think that's a good idea. GT converts both FTs. Timeout.
Down 60-63, 1:28.
We go back to a more balanced offense. PG Chris Hunter missed a jump shot. But C Michael Jackson to the rescue once again, getting the off rebound and scoring on the put back.
Down 62-63, 1:07.
GT taking some time off the clock. They attempt a 3. Missed. But they get the off rebound. They passed around. Attempts a jump shot. Another foul on us! GT scored 2 FTs again. Timeout.
Down 62-65, 0:35.
I put in a 3 guard lineup. No need to force a 3, but if someone is open, we'll take it. We'll foul intentionally in case we missed. GT quickly fouls us. Its their 7th, so 1-and-1 for PG Chris Hunter. Hunter sinks both.
Down 64-65, 0:31.
We want them to force to pass to one of their big men, before we foul. We can't foul their PG, as he is 6-6 FT today. GT wisely passing the ball around only to their perimeter players. We have no choice but to foul, before they run out the clock. 2 FTs on their SF who is 4-6 FTs today. But they hit both. Last timeout.
Down 64-67, 0:22.
We'll go for 3 now. We have 4 potential 3pt shooters in the floor now. But GT elected to foul again. Proves to be a good strategy as PG Chris Hunter missed the front end of his 1-and-1. GT gets the rebound, and we no other choice but to give up fouls quickly. GT added 2 more FTs, before we hit a 3pt shot but with barely any time left
We had our chances to win. But that big run by GT in the 1st half proved to be the difference, as we played catch up the rest of the game
