Association background
  • Simmed for 60 yrs
  • Illegal Recruiting: Yes
  • Conference Movement: Yes
  • Declare Early: Yes

Year: 2000

Objective is to rebuild basketball programs of major schools who either have not won an NCAA championship or it has been a while since they last won. As a newly retired NBA player, I can use my "popularity" to get consideration on getting head coaching jobs on such schools - these schools haven't won anything for a long time, so they really have nothing to lose in getting me. At the very least, fans will be intrigued and I can help fill up seats. But more importantly, I can use my reputation to convince prospective recruits.

As someone with no head coaching experience, I have limited skills in areas such as offense sets, defense, scouting, etc.

My head coaching career begins with UCLA.

Game #1

Postby randy » Sun Jan 19, 2014 10:54 am

Nov 16, 2000: Toledo (0-0) @ UCLA (0-0)

We want to play fast, and we want to force a lot of turn overs on our opponents by double-teaming anyone with the ball; we're doing both so far. SG James Davis with 3 triples already off the bench. Up 17-6, 13:46. Davis already with 4 3pt shots. TOL's SG George Carter is also shooting the lights out with 5 from downtown; problem for TOL is that Carter is not getting much help from his team mates. Up 32-17, 7:22. Both teams converted 7 3pt shots. TOL with 12 turn overs already. Halftime, Up 51-29.

TOL made a late rally cutting our lead to 10 but with 3 mins left. C Troy Jones converted back-to-back inside baskets to effectively seal the game for us. Not even TOL's George Carter game high of 35 points was enough to counter our offense today.

Our fans are happy with the display of "show time, run-and-gun" basketball. The excitement is back in UCLA.

Game #2

Postby randy » Sun Jan 19, 2014 11:26 am

Nov 19, 2000: #21 Iowa (1-0) @ UCLA (1-0)

Our big men were unstoppable inside, in particular C Troy Jones (12 pts). Pair that with the outside shooting of SF Anthony Gray and SG James Davis (6-7 3PT), Iowa having a difficult time figuring out how to contain our high-octane offense. Halftime, Up 44-31.

We extended the lead to as high as 17 in the 2nd half. IOWA has worked themselves back with their offensive rebounding, and came close to 8 pts with under 3 mins left. However, IOWA couldn't make enough shots in the end game as we were able to hold on despite scoring only 25 pts in teh 2nd half.

Game #3

Postby randy » Sun Jan 19, 2014 12:02 pm

Nov 23, 2000: Arkansas (2-0) @ #14 UCLA (2-0)

We jumped off to an early 16-2 lead. But ARK able to come back to cut our lead to 2. It was since then, until we came up with a small 6-0 in the last 2 mins to give ourselves a more comfortable lead. ARK had 9 turn overs in the 1st half, and shot only 31% FG. Halftime, Up 44-32. C Try Jones led our scoring with 16 pts.

Both teams scoring well at the start of the 2nd half. ARK resumed their turn over problems, and with the help of C Troy Jones, we find ourselves with a 22 pt lead with 11 mins remaining. ARK with an 8-0 run after their timeout, to cut our lead to 14. We hit them with a barrage of 3pt shots, and it became a one sided shooting exhibition the rest of the game.

Game #4

Postby randy » Sun Jan 19, 2014 1:20 pm

Nov 26, 2000: Brigham Young (1-2) @ #14 UCLA (3-0)

We were shooting blanks from the perimeter early on, until SG James Davis checked in for the 1st time in the game, and Davis converted his 1st 4 attempts from beyond the arc (he added a 5th towards the end of the 1st half). BYU is shooting 29% FG and had 8 turn overs. Halftime, Up 34-23.

C Troy Jones was not effective offensively against BYU's 2-3 zone, but our perimeter players made enough shots from the outside to get the job done, 17-47 3PT. One remarkable stat in this win was that we only had 1 turn over the entire game. The bench warmers played the last 4 mins

Game #5

Postby randy » Sun Jan 19, 2014 2:01 pm

Nov 30, 2000: #10 UCLA (4-0) @ Loyola Marymount (1-3)

We are making more turnovers, and getting out rebounded by LOYCA, the reasons why we are -9 in FG attempts. Our defense limited LOYCA to only 37% FG, including 1-7 3PT, and that more than made up for the difference. Halftime, Up 34-28.

Our defense got lackadaisical at the start of the 2nd half, and we got into penalty with 12 mins still remaining. LOYCA tied the game on at least 4 occasions, but each time, we came up with clutch baskets to regain the lead. After LOYCA puled to within 2 pts of our lead at 55-53, we came away with a 10-2 run capped by a 3pt shot by SF Anthony Gray (13 pts). Up 65-55, 5:48. LOYCA couldn't get their deficit below 9 pts after that, as Gray continued to hit shots, and we did a much better job controlling the def boards.

Game #6

Postby randy » Sun Jan 19, 2014 2:40 pm

Dec 7, 2000: #15 Oklahoma St (5-1) @ #11 UCLA (5-0)

PG Jonathan Carter was a surprise early in the game with 8 pts (including 2 3s), as we raced to an 18-4 led. OKST scored 7 unanswered to cut our lead to 7. However, OKST shot only 31% FG in the 1st half and they were not able to extend their rally. We also out rebounded OKST, and that has contributed to rebuilding our lead further. Halftime, Up 43-27.

Perimeter scoring load was distributed well today, as we had 5 players converting at least 2 3pt shots; we finished 14-34 3PT. C Troy with his 2nd consecutive double double.

Game #7

Postby randy » Sun Jan 19, 2014 3:16 pm

Dec 14, 2000: Butler (3-4) @ #13 UCLA (6-0)

Game was close until we unloaded 23-5 run middle of the 1st half, which turned our slim 1 pt advantage into a 19 pt lead. Game is now a blowout, as FG shooting comparison after the 1st half stands at 63-34%. Halftime, Up 58-28. SF Anthony Gray already with 21 pts.

Only question remaining is if we can reach 100. And yes we did. We shot 16-29 3PT today.

Game #8 - Las Vegas Winter Jam Round 1

Postby randy » Sun Jan 19, 2014 6:41 pm

Dec 16, 2000: (8) Arkansas-Little Rock (5-3) vs (1) #13 UCLA (7-0)

Not even the uneven foul count (12-2 in UALR's favor) was enough to keep in pace with our offense, as we can put up a shot before UALR can properly set their 1-3-1 zone. Halftime, Up 47-28.

2nd half was a drag as both teams shot poorly.
