Mar 12, 2002: (3) #12 UCLA (25-6, 12-6) vs (8) Stanford (20-11, 8-10)
A tough regular season was rewarded with an appearance in the Pac 12 tournament finals, something we weren't able to achieve last year.
A rough shooting start for us, 0-6 FG. 2 FTs and a couple of 3pt shots by SG James Davis kick started our offense. Down 8-10, 13:31. We had 3 fast break opportunities that resulted in 2 offensive fouls, and a missed layups; we're wasting our chances to take control of this game. Down 17-19, 6:59. Our 7-12 3PT shooting helped us take the lead after the 1st half. Overall, both teams shot below 35% FG, and had a lot of turn overs each, but we rebounded slightly better. Halftime, Up 38-30.
We went more to C Troy Jones at the start of teh 2nd half, and JOnes has delivered scoring 9 of our 1st 13 pts after the break. Up 51-38, 13:41. Quality minutes for the comebacking SG Steve Bradford, 6 pts, 2 rebs in 6 mins of action. Up 61-46, 7:30.
Last ditch rally for STAN. Up 65-56, 3:07. We have dominated the boards on both ends of the floor, which prevented STAN from getting more opportunities to score. Up 70-58, 0:33. That should do it.
UCLA wins their 10th Pac 12 title. It was 14 years ago (1988) since UCLA won the title.
Final Score: UCLA - 73, Stanford - 58
