Game #1

Postby randy » Wed Feb 05, 2014 7:24 am

Nov 15, 1997: (Conf V) Sacramento St (0-0) @ (Conf F) Bradley (0-0)

We want to play fast, and we want to shoot plenty of 3s. On defense, we will force turn overs by double-teaming anyone with the ball.

1st Half
  • 12:33, Up 9-7. We're 2-4 3PT. Both teams with 4 tos
  • 7:25, Up 21-20. We're shooting 62% FG. We're in the penalty, and BRAD is +8 FTA
  • Halftime, Down 29-31. We committed 13 fouls, resulting in BRAD's +11 advantage in FTAs.

2nd Half
15:35, Down 31-39. Our shoots not falling in the 2nd half, 1-7 FG
11:49, Down 35-44.
7:30, Down 40-46. BRAD with 18 turn overs, and our advantage in possessions keeping us in this game despite our foul troubles
3:20, Down 45-40

BRAD converted 2 FTs, and we answered back with a FG. Down 5. BRAD committed another turn over (#22) and we scored on transition. Down 3. After a BRAD miss, PF Jordan Davis knocks down a jumper on our end. Another turn over by BRAD (#23). Timeout. Down 51-52, 1:08.

PG Steve Hemsley missed a jumper, but PF Jordan Davis comes away with an off rebound and the put back! Timeout BRAD. Up 53-52, 0:44.

BRAD hits a quick jumper! Timeout. Down 53-54, 0:37.

SF Shawn Reid converts only his 2nd FG of the game! Timeout BRAD. Up 55-54, 0:24.

BRAD responds by knocking down a jumper also. What a game! Timeout. Down 55-56, 0:10.

We go to C Mike Holiday on the post. holiday can't get up a shot. Holiday kicks out to SG Morrow Tiggs on the outside. Tiggs goes for a 3 in the deep right corner. Contested shot. Missed. Time expired

Good effort by the players. We executed our defensive game plan by forcing 23 turnovers on BRAD, and we scored 14 pts on fast break. We just committed too many fouls the entire game. We were able to catch up, but BRAD just executed one more play than us in the end.

Game #2

Postby randy » Wed Feb 05, 2014 8:32 am

Nov 18, 1997: Sacramento St-V (0-0) @ Davidson-Q (2-0)

1st Half
  • 12:30, Down 10-11. We're 2-3 3PT, but only 1-8 from inside the arc.
  • 7:51, Down 19-22.
  • Halftime, Down 28-34. We committed only 4 turn overs, but couldn't take advantage with our 32% FG shooting. We got into penalty, and DAV took advantage by hitting 12-13 FT.

2nd Half
  • 15:35, Down 30-43. Our turn overs have doubled already, by committing 4 in the 1st 4 minutes of the 2nd half
  • 11:54, Down 33-46.
  • 7:30, Down 41-52. It's not an insurmountable lead, but our 8 2nd half turn overs preventing us from making a rally.
  • 3:24, Down 48-65

Our poor shooting can be expected on road games, but we would have this a different game if not for our break down in ball handling during the 2nd half. The discrepancy in fast break points tells the story, and the effect of our turn overs.
