  • 7:49, Down 18-23.

Game #37

Postby randy » Sun Feb 09, 2014 9:59 am

Nov 26, 1998: Sacramento St (4-1) @ Gardner-Webb (1-2)

1st Half
  • 13:57, Up 12-11.
  • 7:54, Down 24-30. We missed 7 FTs already
  • Halftime, Down 35-47. Aside from our strugles from the FT line (9-18 FT), it's our poor defense that allowed GWEB to shoot 55% FG.

2nd Half
  • 15:49, Down 46-51.
  • 10:11, Down 56-64.
  • 7:12, Down 66-70. We're getting more fast break pts to get ourselves back in this game, but we haven't made much improvements on lowring GWEB's shooting percentage.
  • 2:20, Down 74-66. SF Keith Richerson splits his last trip to the FT line. We have missed 13 FTs already.

Foul called on us. GWEB missed both FTs. We get the rebound. Timeout. Down 74-76, 2:07.

PF Shyrone Franklin and C David Irvin have combined for 36 pts; we need to get the ball to one of them. Franklin gets the pass down low, and Franklin able to convert with a nice move to the basket. Tied. GWEB missed a 3. Timeout. Tied at 76, 1:23.

SF Keith Richerson missed a 3; we should have continued pounding the ball inside. GWEB with the ball. Jumper by GWEB is no good, but a foul is called. GWEB splits. Timeout. Down 76-77, 0:58.

We'll go heavy inside focus. C David Irvin gets the ball. Irvin shoots, missed, but Irvin rebounds the ball. Irvin with his 2nd attempt, and it goes in plus a foul! Irvin missed the FT. But another off rebound, this time by PF Shyrone Franklin. Put back by Franklin is good! Timeout GWEB. Up 80-77, 0:35.

GWEB having difficulty getting open. GWEB put up a forced 3 and missed. That should do it.

Game #39

Postby randy » Sun Feb 09, 2014 11:37 am

Nov 30, 1998: #20 Sacramento St (5-2) @ Lafayette (2-3)

1st Half
  • 13:22, Down 10-12
  • 6:44, Down 14-31. We're shooting just 29% FG, while allowing LAFAY to torch us on 58% FG.
  • Halftime, Down 25-42.

2nd Half
  • 15:55, Down 35-48
  • 10:11, Down 45-49. Our defense allowed us to come back. However, PG Matt Brewer already fouled out.
  • 7:33, Down 48-59. We got into a scoring slump, and LAFAY able to increase their lead again.
  • 2:41, Down 55-63

We cut it down to 4. On LAFAY's next play, we got called for a foul. LAFAY splits. Timeout. Down 59-64, 1:40.

LAFAY locking the paint with their 2-3 zone. PG Steve Hemsley open for the 3, but he missed. LAFAY rebounds. LAFAY wisely killing off some time, before they launched a 3. Missed. Timeout. Down 59-64, 0:57.

We'll go for 3. We missed. No choice but to give up fouls now. We can't connect from the outside, and LAFAY more FTs.

We clearly need a lot of work to do in executing our set plays, and to practice more with our m2m defense.

2nd Half
