Charlotte, the MJ story

Charlotte, the MJ story

Postby dietpleh » Wed Jun 26, 2013 1:09 pm

Hi guys,

I Only played the game for a week, but i'm hooked on it already...

I also like this thread alot!
Great to see how you guys are making a franchise.

So I wanted to post my own story, just for fun.
(I'm not a great writer or something like that, I'm not going to tell stories...just going to post how every season goes).

Started with Charlotte, because I wanted to start with a bad team...
+ I like the fact that MJ is the owner, and how bad he wants to be young again to make this team into a contender (so I was thinking about using the rookies of the 84' disk, try to draft MJ...see if i can manage to pull that off)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In my first season, I tried to tank as much as possible (without being sacked)
Trying to lose those big contracts (Diop, ...).
Creating as much as possible free salary.

After the first season I ended up with a record of 12-70 (same record as Toronto, but I managed to get their draftpick by trade also)
Players: Rip Hamilton, Larry Sanders, Kemba Walker, Kirk Hinrich, Tmac, Tinsley, Tyrus Thomas, Radmandovic, Ben Wallace, Derrick Brown, Najera, CJ Miles, Redick.

Traded a bunch of draft picks, so I ended up with the 2nd pick, 8th & 12th pick in the upcoming draft. (missed the 1st pick, despite having the best %'s with toronto and myself...)

2nd season, DRAFT/offseason

-drafted MKG, Dion Waiters & John Henson

-they offered me a trade: Waiters + pick for Vazquez & Barnes (couldn't refuse this one, even if this gives me 2 SF's)

Free agents:
-pryzbilla on 2yr deal 1,3m/yr
-Oden on 3yr deal 1,6m/yr
-Delonte West on 3yr deal 1,6m/yr

Reason I picked those guys is because I needed C's and a backup SG.
I didn't want to go after big names or high paid players, because I'm trying to get Olajuwon or Jordan in the next draft...
That's why I'm not going all-out this year in the free-agency.
Will be hard offcourse, but gotta give it a try
.

TEAM:
PG: Kemba Walker, Vazquez
SG: Redick, West
SF: MKG, Barnes
PF: Henson, Thomas, Markief Morris
C: Pryzbilla, Oden

going to try to trade Thomas for a draft pick...

Going to be very interesting to see how the next year's draft plays out. Very cool concept to add these legends back into the current NBA. I hope they all dominate the new crop of players haha.

SEASON 2

I Made a trade in November: Thomas + Redick <--> Biedrins + 1st round pick (golden state)

Redick was complaining about me in the press because of his playing time & Thomas was someone I never used anyways...

Also had to sign 2 free agents because I needed 12 players on the roster.

signed:
Nazr Mohamed 1yr deal / 1,3m
Arenas 1yr deal / 1,3m

Also changed my starting line-up/minutes a little
PG: Kemba Walker (44min)
SG: Vazquez (34min)
SF: MKG (34min)
PF: Henson (36min)
C: Oden (28min)
6th: Markief Morris (26min)
role: Barnes (14min)
role: West (12min)
bench: Arenas (6min)
bench: pryzbilla (0min)
bench: biedrins (0min)

Letting Vazquez play the backup-PG and a couple minutes at SG changed my team completely...
I first lost 3 games in a row at the start of the season. After changing the line-up I went for 6 wins in a row.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

TRADE on 30 november
I managed to trade with Toronto

my 1st round pick + 1st round pick from portland (got that in last years trade) <--> 1st round pick Toronto + 1st round pick in 2015

Did this because i'm starting to win alot of games, not going to be in the lottery if I continue like this + Toronto is in last place at the moment
I also still got the 1st round pick of New Orleans, so i gives me 2 good chances to be in the lottery i hope...
All my other draft picks are gone (except for one 2nd rounder for this year)...

picks:
1th round 2013 NO
1th round 2013 Toronto
2nd round 2013 Charlotte
1th round 2015 Toronto

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
TRADE on February 12

I decided to trade Markief Morris, he constantly was in a fight with Delonte West...
So I had to pick one of them to part ways.

Markief Morris <--> D.Motiejunas

actually really like the trade... Motiejunas gives me a very good shooter with high court intellegence
So I now have Henson for the hard work, defence and rebounds. And i got Motiejunas if I need a big that spreads the floor with good shooting

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
REGULAR SEASON
We had a great regular season, never thought we would play this good...
We ended up with a record of 47W-35L and finished with the 3th seed in the east!

This is the year I fell in love with Kemba Walker, the little general I call him :-)
Last year I was thinking about maybe trading him and drafting Lillard, but I'm glad I kept him.
He averaged 22,4 PTS/5 AST/4,5 REB/1,3 STL/0,6 blks/2 TO
Big upgrade from last year, when he only managed to score 12 PTS/0,5 STL/3,5 TO (other stats remaind almost the same)

MKG also did great in his first year, bringing me what I need from him --> defence, defence, defence (and nicely playing along in offense with high intellegence)
He averaged 10 PTS/3,3 AST/5,5 REB/2 STL/1,3 BLK/1,5 TO
I need him to be that ugly player, doing the little things, playing Dennis Rodman Defence and grabbing boards.

The 3th player that had alot to do in this years succes was John Henson.
Many doubted drafting him, but he came through with 13 PTS/8 REB/1,5 AST/1 STL/2,3 BLK.
When Henson is in the paint people get scared nowadays...

Also a shoutout to Vazquez! His statline isn't THAT great with 12 PTS/5 AST/5 REB/1,5 STL/2,5 TO.
But what I like about him is that he fits in so well with the team (defence first is how we play the game).
He plays backup PG and also alot of minutes as a SG. Gives me good D and alot of REB for a guard.

On the other hand, Harrison Barnes didn't meet my expectations...
Tried to bring him as much as possible in the rotation, but my team just played better when he was on the bench.
He only averaged 7PTS/1 AST/2 REB/ 0 BLK/ 0,5 STL.
I could use him as a role player, but the guy has the talent to play a starting role someday and the problem is he knows it...
Playing him simply as a backup SF, he will get mad about his minutes.
So I'm wondering if the team is better of, trading him for a less talented guy?
For now I'm keeping him as a possible asset for draft day...Trying to get MJ and Olajuwan would be epic! (and it's possible with some luck)

So, I had 2 draftpicks in the 1th round:
New Orléans: they finished with the 6th worst record in the league
Toronto: they finished with the worst record in the league
Hopefully the lottery gods will be in my favor this year!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

PLAYOFFS
The playoffs showed how young & inexperienced this team is...
We got swept in the first round by Indiana.
At home we had 2 close games, but in the 4th quarter Indiana used their experience. So they took both games with 5 points.
In Indiana we just got murdered...Losing both games with 20 points.
Hibbert dominated those 2 games.
Which made me even more hungry to get Olajuwan :-)

In the playoffs the finals were the same as last year: Miami v LA Clippers
Last year Miami won 4-3, this year the Clippers got their revenge and won 3-4

3th Season DRAFT/OFFSEASON

So the lottery went pretty good--> I got the 1th and 6th pick in the draft. (Which was 'normal' having those %'s with my 2 picks)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

First we had to bring in new coaches (contracts of old coaches were finished)
So we hired:
-Rahim Thomas (Head Coach) 3year deal for 680.000/yr
-TR Dunn (1th assistent) 3year deal for 350.000/yr
-Mike Brown (2nd assistent) 3year deal for 360.000/yr
-Kim Hughes (3th assistent) 3year deal for 300.000/yr

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

DRAFT
In the war-room I went straight to work.
Talking to teams about trading picks.
I managed to get what I wanted, traded:
2nd pick in the draft <--> my 6th pick + 1st round pick 2015 (this one is from Toronto, so will probably be a lottery pick)

I give away 2 lottery picks for 1, but this give me the pleasure of drafting 1th and 2nd in the 1984 rookies!!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Drafted: (I'm as happy as a little kid in a candy store)
1th pick: MJ!!
2nd pick: Olajuwan!

-Barkley went 3th to the Lakers
-Stockton went 7th to Houston (surprised he went that low...)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Free Agents

-After the draft I put Barnes on the clock, see what I could get in return.
Traded him for the 1th round pick of Toronto in 2014

-Signed Jamario Moon in a 2year deal worth 1,5m/yr
-Signed Kyle Korver in a 3year deal worth 1,5m/yr
Signed Moon because he is a great defender and 3pt shooter, could use him as a backup SF for 6min/game
Signed Korver because he is deadly from outside, and doens't want alot of playing time...he will be a bench-filler

-Last I've cut Biedrins out my roster. I had 4 Centers on my roster, so 1 needed to go...decided to cut the one that wanted the most playing time (because face it, Olajuwan is going to play almost everything).

My team now looks like this:
PG: Kemba Walker (38min)
SG: MJ (40min)
SF: MKG (40min)
PF: John Henson (34min)
C: Olajuwan (38min)
6th: Vazquez (16min)
6th: Motiejunas (14min)
role: Korver (8min)
role: West (8min)
bench: Moon (0min)
bench: Oden (0min)
bench: Pryzbilla (0min)

I smell a Dynasty in the making, with DRAFTED players, that I will never trade. Those players will be the core that will always remain the same...

Delonte West was bashing me in the media for his playing time...
Cut him instantly & signed C. Eyenga in his place for 800.000/yr

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ALL-STAR weekend:
-Jordan came in 2nd in the dunk-contest

-Jordan & Olajuwan were selected as rookies (both starting)
sophemores won the game, bradley beal MVP

-Jordan selected as starter in allstart game, Olajuwan selected for the bench
east won, Monta Ellis MVP

That starting five will be INSANE! The only one who is not a very good-to-elite level defender is Kemba Walker. I have a feeling when it is time to re-sign MKG, he may be a cap casualty.

Yeah it could be a cap problem in the long run, hope that the GM is willing to spend money :)
