New York, New York! Bringing a championship home

November Player of the Month – Russell Westbrook, Oklahoma City Thunder – 28.8 points, 4.6 assists, 5.7 rebounds, 0.8 steals and 0.1 blocks per game.

November Rookie of the Month – Ledaryl McMillian, Golden State Warriors – 17.7 points, 5.5 assists, 3.5 rebounds, 1.5 steals and 0.9 blocks per game.

McMillian is already looking the goods but his potential is off the charts. If he looks dangerous now, just check on him in two years.

Our first game for December had Kevin Durant and nothing but Kevin Durant. Our captain had 47 points and 10 rebounds as we blasted the Timberwolves 112-100 behind Kevin Durant. Seriously, Kevin Durant. Matt Brown helped out with 14 points, 10 assists and 7 rebounds. Gabe White has finally found a team that will let him start and he isn’t wasting that opportunity, scoring 26 points in the loss.

Dallas Mavericks 17-1

**TRADE**

Philadelphia trade:
C Dustin Harris
2023 2nd round pick

Atlanta trade:
PF Larry Robinson

Winner – Philadelphia. Addition by subtraction and getting rid of Harris is a huge addition. Say goodbye to the Hawks’ title chances.

Seriously, this guy is the worst teammate you will ever have. EVER. He might get through all 32 teams at this rate.

Kevin continues his fine form with 30 points but it was our young’uns who stole the 111-76 win over Portland. Marcus Randle had 19 points and 15 rebounds while Matt Brown nearly caught him with 13 points and 12 assists. We have a lot of older guys but with these two we should be in good hands in the future. Crazily enough, Earl Oliver was the only Blazer player to get into double figures with 20 points, the next highest was Alec Burks with nine points in 10 minutes off the bench.

Dallas Mavericks 18-1

I can’t believe the start to the season we are having, as we win again 115-108 over Seattle. Kevin Durant had a lazy 39 points on 24 shots while Matt Brown was achingly close to a triple double with 9 points, 12 assists and 9 rebounds. Hayletts Smith makes a cameo appearance with 12 points in 11 minutes off the bench for us. Carl Farmer was great with 33 points and 8 rebounds while Bret Davis tallied 25 points, 9 assists and 6 rebounds. If they keep everyone together (which they haven’t, trading Ross Lampley for peanuts) this Seattle team should be an elite team soon.

Dallas Mavericks 19-1

Hmm, my old favourite Ricardo Marquardt is on the trading block. If Kevin Seraphin and Danilo Gallinari keep complaining I might make an inquiry.

Another win for this team and if you haven’t noticed from our record we are on a tear. The Bulls didn’t stand a chance as we stomped them 114-84. Marcus Randle was amazing with 16 points and 20 rebounds while four other Mav players were in double figures but crazily enough Kevin Durant wasn’t one of them. Durant finished with 8 points, 11 rebounds and 6 assists while only shooting 3/7 from the field. Strange. Robert Arnold was the best for Chicago with 13 points and 7 rebounds as the Bulls shot 33% from the field.

Dallas Mavericks 20-1

That’s ten wins on the trot as Kevin Durant actually tried to score the ball in our 109-84 victory. Durant finished with 36 points and 7 rebounds as Marcus Randle, Andre Drummond and Matt Brown doubled up. David Forney got some burn off the end of the bench with 12 points in 20 minutes. We will need him to step up when Sean Gilmore fails.

Dallas Mavericks 21-1

As long as Detroit still has John Johnson and Greg Monroe they are still an elite team and they flexed their muscles in a 110-92 streak breaker. Johnson had 18 points but it was Derek Thomas, brought over from New Orleans who did the damage with 27 points and 13 rebounds. I have never seen a 6’9”, 200lb SF playing C do so much damage as Thomas. Marcus Randle was our best with 23 points and 9 rebounds.

Dallas Mavericks 21-2

The next night we took our frustration out on Portland, as we led from start to finish to record a 113-97 win. Andre Drummond didn’t like the way Derek Thomas played him last game so took up the challenge here with 17 points, 15 rebounds and 5 blocks as Kevin Durant’s 25 points led the way. Earl Oliver had 31 points and he has quietly become one of the best SGs in the league. If the Blazers can surround him with quality players they could go far.

Dallas Mavericks 22-2

Our next three games are the Texas Trifecta, with Houston and then San Antonio twice. It didn’t start well as Kyrie Irving torched the living daylights out of us with 46 points and 9 rebounds as the Rockets breezed past us 120-88. They shot 57% from the field as Irving went 18/25 and 9/12 from three point land so there was no way we were coming back from that, especially as we shot 36% as a team. Andre Drummond was our best with 18 points and 11 rebounds.

Dallas Mavericks 22-3

My old nemesis came to Dallas, but we didn’t give Brandon Jennings the satisfaction of a win as we held the Spurs to 34% shooting, taking the win 101-85. Andre Drummond was lights out with 22 points and 18 rebounds while James Harden finally showed up with 28 points, 7 assists and 6 rebounds. Kevin Love was the best for the Spurs with 19 points and 8 rebounds but was held to 6/15 shooting. Oh yeah, Jennings only had 9 points and 9 assists.

Dallas Mavericks 23-3

The next night we travelled to San Antonio we were outplayed, losing 112-89 as Marcus Randle strained an abdominal muscle and will be out for the better part of two weeks. Unfortunately for me Brandon Jennings had a blinder with 36 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists with Kevin Love playing back-up with 21 points and 19 rebounds. Randle finished with 11 points and 11 rebounds but Kevin Durant was held to 12 points on 6/15 shooting. Tristan Thompson will take Randle’s place in the starting line-up.

Dallas Mavericks 23-4

After starting 21-1 we have dropped four of our last six games with a 103-95 loss to Milwaukee. Steph Curry had 26 points and 11 assists while our old friend Iman Shumpert put up 16 points, 8 assists and 4 steals. It didn’t help that Marcus Randle thought he was healthy enough to play and shot 3/13 for 9 points. Disappointing game as we were up at three quarter time.

Dallas Mavericks 23-5

Kevin Durant makes sure that we don’t drop three in a row with 25 points and 14 rebounds but sprains his ankle in the process but should be ok for the next game as we beat Toronto 101-81 in Canada. Andre Drummond was also great with 22 points and 10 rebounds and Matt Brown chipped in 10 assists. Jake Chase, Paul Orvis and Jeremy Lin, the Raptors’ big three, combined for 14/55 for only 39 points.

Dallas Mavericks 24-5

Even with a few guys banged up we slaughter the Thunder 108-68 as Kevin Durant finally gets past Michael Kidd-Gilchrist for 47 points, 7 rebounds and 5 blocks. Matt Brown went 1/8 from the field but did hand out 15 assists. Russell Westbrook was the only OKC player in double figures with 27 points, going 10/25, as the rest of the starters went 11/37 from the field. It was on their home court as well which makes the loss sting much, much greater for their fans.

Dallas Mavericks 25-5

Even though Kevin Durant went 9/28 we still beat my old team Memphis, taking a 30-17 third quarter to finish the game at 111-93. Sure Durant finished with 27 points and 11 rebounds it would just be better if he shot better. James Harden is nursing a sprained ankle so David Forney got the start tonight and relished it with 18 points. John Wall and Morris Simmons combined to shoot 15/43 and 10/30 from three for 41 points in the loss.

Dallas Mavericks 26-5

Our last game of the month is a pretty easy 97-84 victory over Denver where we got out to a 32 point lead before Denver’s bench player brought it back to a respectable score. Andre Drummond was outstanding all night with 23 points, 14 rebounds and 7 blocks while Marcus Randle pulled down 19 rebounds in the win. Chris Drexler was the best for the Nuggets with 22 points and 8 rebounds but the team shot 33% from the field to make sure the game was out of their reach.

Dallas Mavericks 27-5

We may have lost four games this month but we are still on top of the West, with a three game advantage over the Phoenix Suns at 23-8. San Antonio are behind them at 14-10 and then a logjam of ten teams that are only four or five games apart. The Trailblazers are sitting last in the conference at 10-21.

We are actually beating the Hornets at the moment as New Orleans have a record of 24-6, with Orlando at 20-7 and then daylight. There is still five more teams with a .600 record or better it’s just New Orleans and Orlando are over .700. New York have only won 3 games all season at 3-22 but they have company as Washington are 4-24.

Blocks – Marlon Haymon (MEM) – 1.5
Steals – Joey Thunell (SAS) – 1.6
Efficiency – Ledaryl McMillian (GSW) – 21.2

First Round of NBA Draft Prospects
1. PG Camah Williams (Washington State), Freshman, 6’3”, 186lbs
2. SF Tiburcio Tommasini (Italy), 17 years old, 6’5”, 228lbs
3. PF Robert Jackson (Gonzaga), Junior, 6’11”, 226lbs
4. SF Michael Graham (Alabama), 6’9”, 220lbs
5. C Ryan Wadley (Ohio), Senior, 6’9”, 260lbs

Thoughts – ITTaly as Tommasini is being called (notice the two ‘Ts’) is an absolute bull of a player and at only 17 years old he might even get bigger. He is still learning but looks the goods. Wadley will be a great defensive centre in the league and loves inhaling rebounds.

December Player of the Month – Derrick Favors, Utah Jazz – 24.8 points, 15.0 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 1.7 steals and 3.0 blocks per game.

December Rookie of the Month – Ledaryl McMillian, Golden State Warriors – 22.2 points, 3.7 rebounds, 4.3 assists, 1.4 steals and 0.4 blocks per game.

Our first game of 2023 was a shocker, as the Lakers stormed out of the gate on our home court to a 23 point lead in the third quarter. We pegged it back to seven but this was a terrible game, losing 109-102. Josh Jackson led five Laker players in double figures with 18 points and 12 assists as LA hit 18 three pointers in the win. James Harden was our best with 26 points and even though we shot a better field goal percentage than our opposition and shot twelve more free throws those three pointers killed our chance of winning.

Dallas Mavericks 27-6

The Sonics are the next team to try their hand on our home turf but unlike the last game against the Lakers we torch them. We got out to a 35-19 first quarter lead and blew that out to 23 points at the long break and never looked back, winning the game 106-79. Kevin Durant was back to his best with 31 points and 12 rebounds and while Matt Brown scored only two points he handed out 13 assists and grabbed seven rebounds. Bret Davis was the best for the losers but that isn’t saying much as he scored only 14 points on 22 shots.

Dallas Mavericks 28-6

The Jazz are starting to slip from their elite status with Lebron James firmly in his twilight years. His season output is the lowest it’s ever been and at 37 years old that’s understandable. Sure they still have Derrick Favors and Mark Lewis but their guards of Anton Palmer and my personal favourite Changa Hendricks their championship window looks to have closed. We showcase that with a 108-79 smattering of the Jazz behind Kevin Durant’s 38 points and James Harden’s 17 points and 12 assists. Mark Lewis had 15 points, 11 rebounds and 7 blocks but shot 3/10 from the foul line as he still hasn’t learned.

Dallas Mavericks 29-6

Danilo Gallinari again has a go at Jaymes and confronts me to take a side. Should I side with the coach who just won me a championship or the guy who came aboard and plays all of six minutes per game? Yeah, you know the answer to that. I go shopping for guys on the trading block and find one of my old favourites who will still be a great player off the bench.

Dallas trade:
PF Kevin Seraphin
SF Danilo Gallinari
C Al Horford
2025 2nd round pick

LA Lakers trade:
C Ricardo Marquardt
SF Royce White

Winner – Dallas. Sure Seraphin is a decent player but the three guys coming to Los Angeles are now slotted in the 10th, 11th and 12th positions in the depth chart so they really didn’t get much. White is the surprise packet here, now sitting as the Mavericks’ seventh man.

Ricardo is one of my favourites over the years and he should fit right in with Andre and Marcus.

Royce and Ricardo only played 10 minutes combined but it didn’t matter as we beat the Neon fairly easily. James Harden had a blinder with 30 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists while Andre Drummond put up 28 points and 11 rebounds. Darren Banks was the best for Nevada with 19 points and 7 assists but the team shot 36% from the field. Good to see another one of my former players, Antoine Martin, getting quality court time with Nevada, averaging nearly 20 points per contest.

Dallas Mavericks 30-6

Hell Week has come again, I think we are up to number four since it was introduced. It’s a great time for the team to bond and get grievances out in the open to be a better unit for the future. Like San Antonio’s Rodeo Road Trip. Game one is an amazing display of basketball from one team while the other didn’t look like they showed up. Luckily we were the former, as our biggest lead in the game was 40 points as we smashed Ron Winston and the Cavs 106-66. Kevin Durant had 34 points and 10 rebounds while Marcus Randle doubled up with 15 points and 13 rebounds. In fact, every Dallas player scored at least once. Winston was the best for Cleveland with 21 points but his running mate Brooks Badu had a horrible game with 4 points on 2/19 shooting. My old draftee JD Lawson who I traded with Winston to Cleveland is now starting for the Cavs which is fantastic, because I thought he would be a long way from contributing. He had 2 points, 8 assists and 7 rebounds in the loss and is doing very well for himself at the moment.

Dallas Mavericks 31-6

Game two was a tale of two halves, as we got out to a 20 point lead before seeing that evaporate after the break to see Portland take a two point lead. Fortunately for us we have the best closer in the business with Kevin Durant finishing them off as we take the 106-102 win. Durant finished with 27 points and 11 rebounds while Matt Brown was close to a triple double with 12 points, 13 assists and 7 rebounds. Earl Oliver is probably the best SG in the league now as he put in 24 points and 9 rebounds. Marco Barker went toe-to-toe with Brown with 17 points, 11 assists and 7 rebounds in the loss.

Dallas Mavericks 32-6

It was the Kevin Durant vs. Steph Curry show when we took on the Bucks in Dallas. Curry came out of the gate like a house on fire on his way to 40 points on 14/20 shooting and 12/18 three pointers. The Bucks were also on fire with a 41-21 first quarter lead. We chipped back in the second and third quarters (29-19 and 35-13 respectively) before keeping the status quo to win 114-100. Kevin Durant nearly matched Curry with 35 points and had Royce White to lean on with the newest addition having nine points and five rebounds in only eight minutes of play.

Dallas Mavericks 33-6

Durant continued his great form the next night, pouring in 40 points as we again win by 40, this time 114-69 over Washington. It was strange because apart from Durant Matt Brown was the only player on our team to get to double figures, but there was seven players with six points or more. DeShaun Worley top scored for the Wizards with 15 points but we outscored them in every quarter, winning easy.

Dallas Mavericks 34-6

We just can’t stop Steph Curry but he sure did stop our winning streak as the Bucks exact their revenge 119-102 in Milwaukee. Curry had 29 points and 8 assists, ably assisted by Corry Hackworth’s 22 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. I was trying desperately to trade for Hackworth at the draft but the Bucks’ wouldn’t budge and now I see why. Marcus Randle was outstanding with 26 points and 10 rebounds and even though we didn’t play badly, Milwaukee just played better hitting 20 three pointers in the game.

Dallas Mavericks 34-7

All of our starters played really well in our 105-91 win over Minnesota but for some reason Jaymes had Matt Brown play all 48 minutes at PG which can’t be good for his body. Brown had 17 points and 13 assists while his backcourt mate James Harden had 24 points and 9 rebounds to do the damage. Gabe White was the best player on the court with 34 points and 11 rebounds but didn’t get any help, with #6 pick Enrique Mendez going 4/16 for 11 points off the bench.

Dallas Mavericks 35-7

Our last game of Hell Week 4 put us at 6-1 after we wiped the floor with the Lakers 123-109. Andre Drummond walked all over Jeff Cunningham for 23 points and 9 rebounds as our guards combined for 33 points and 17 assists. Joe Holmes and Josh Jackson have been sharing the PG duties, leaving the actual good PGs in Kendall Marshall and Tate McKenzie to rot on the bench. Jackson and Holmes can fill it up though as they combined for 39 points. Out of the three players I traded away to LA only Danilo Gallinari played, and he only had five minutes for five points. Royce White on the other hand had 9 points, 3 rebounds and 3 assists in 15 minutes off the bench.

Dallas Mavericks 36-7

Our last game was a 105-95 easy win over Philadelphia as Marcus Randle showed the whole world how good he is now, with 27 points and 9 rebounds. Kevin Durant (22 points, 8 rebounds) and James Harden (23 points, 8 rebounds) had nearly identical statlines in the win. Andrew Owens, the guy who kicked Gabe White out of Philly had 17 points and 9 rebounds in the loss as Vitaly Ekomov only played four minutes because of injury.

Dallas Mavericks 37-7

After an amazing 10-2 January which included Hell Week I’m very happy where this team is heading. We’ve opened up a four game lead over Phoenix who are 33-11 with Houston a whopping six games behind them. Seattle are last at 13-27 but have had some big injuries.

We are even beating the Hornets who are one game behind us at 36-8, and have opened up a seven game lead over second place Detroit. For some reason Atlanta are all the way down in eighth spot at 24-21. I’m pretty sure it has to do with Dustin Harris killing the team vibe as he is a toxic, cancerous player and I would never go for him in a million years. New York have fallen way back, now five games behind Washington and Miami at 5-40 and staring down the barrel of the worst record in the league.

Dallas Top Points
Kevin Durant – 26.9
James Harden – 16.2
Andre Drummond – 15.1

Dallas Top Assists
Matt Brown – 9.6
James Harden – 5.3
Mike Conley – 3.2

Dallas Top Rebounds
Marcus Randle – 10.9
Andre Drummond – 9.0
Kevin Durant – 7.1

Matias Perez shook off a slow start in the D-League and is now averaging 14.5 points, 7.2 assists and 3.3 rebounds per game.

League Leaders
Points – Kevin Durant (DAL) – 26.9
Assists – Reggie Dobbins (PHO) – 12.0
Rebounds – Derrick Favors (UTA) – 11.3
Blocks – Anthony Davis (NOH) – 4.3
Steals – Ernest Davis (PHI) – 2.8
Efficiency – Anthony Davis (NOH) – 29.1

Rookie Leaders
Points – Ledaryl McMillian (GSW) – 18.2
Assists – Ledaryl McMillian (GSW) – 5.0
Rebounds – Joey Thunell (SAS) – 7.5
Blocks – Marlon Haymon (MEM) – 1.5
Steals – Joey Thunell (SAS) – 1.7
Efficiency – Ledaryl McMillian (GSW) – 18.6

Second Round of NBA Draft Prospects
1. (2) SF Tiburcio Tommasini (Italy), 17 years old, 6’5”, 228lbs
2. (1) PG Camah Williams (Washington State), Freshman, 6’3”, 186lbs
3. (4) SF Michael Graham (Alabama), Sophomore, 6’9”, 220lbs
4. (3) PF Robert Jackson (Gonzaga), Junior, 6’11”, 226lbs
5. (NR) PF Charles Means (Duke), Sophomore, 6’9”, 240lbs

Thoughts – It’s not a draft if you are looking for at SG, as the first one is North Carolina State’s Lamoni Daniels all the way down at #17. Only small movements in the top five but I can definitely see Tommasini hold onto the #1 spot for the rest of the season.

Man, you guys are killing it right now. I have also realized that Antony Davis seems to develop into a legend no matter what.

I'm excited about this season even if James Harden is starting to slow down. It seems Anthony Davis always becomes a legend and right now he is only 29 years old. Phoenix are also becoming a contender, finally.

January Player of the Month – Anthony Davis, New Orleans Hornets – 23.3 points, 9.7 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 3.4 steals and 4.6 blocks per game.

January Rookie of the Month – Ledaryl McMillian, Golden State Warriors – 14.7 points, 2.3 rebounds, 4.9 assists, 1.3 steals and 0.2 blocks per game.

The Suns are probably our most dangerous competition in the West at 33-11, and if our first game of February was an indicator of what’s to come I’m excited. Phoenix got out to a dozen point lead before we reeled them back in, closing the gap in the third quarter. Four Dallas players had 20 points or more as we took the win 112-107. Kevin Durant led the way with 25 points, but Marcus Randle (22 points, 11 rebounds), Andre Drummond (21 points) and James Harden (20 points) all had great games. Jared Arenas was the best for the Suns with 32 points and 14 rebounds while Kwame Cravens also torched us with 30 points at SG. This may be a rivalry in the making if all goes to plan.

Dallas Mavericks 38-7

It was our defence that won our match-up against Brooklyn because it definitely wasn’t our offence. We shot 31% from the field compared to the Nets’ 28% as we ground out a 87-72 win. Tristan Thompson was huge for us tonight as Andre Drummond fouled out early, as TT put up 15 points and 14 rebounds off the bench. Marcus Randle had his worst shooting night in his career going 3/17 for 8 points and 13 rebounds. Donte Rock also had a night to forget, going 2/18 for 7 points and five fouls. How about we all agree to forget this game ever happened?

Dallas Mavericks 39-7

We have a four game away trip, so it will be good for the team to be on the road together. It didn’t help our season record as the Atlanta Hawks demolished us 125-116. For such a high scoring game, only seven players in the whole contest got into double figures, including Marcus Randle’s 10 points. Raoul Dumas led the way with 37 points and 12 assists while his running mate Brad Beal had 25 points. It was Rasheed Miller who killed us off the bench though, with 30 points on 6/8 3P shooting in only 27 minutes. Andre Drummond was our best with 28 points and 10 rebounds while Kevin Durant had 27 points and 8 rebounds with James Harden being the other double figure scorer with 20 points.

Dallas Mavericks 39-8

Game two of our away trip was much easier, as we were close to home and close to our best with a 105-84 victory over San Antonio. Kevin Durant was on fire all night with 36 points as Matt Brown helped out with 10 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists. Jon Mitchell was the best for the Spurs with 23 points but Kevin Love and Brandon Jennings combined for 28 points on 10/31 shooting.

Dallas Mavericks 40-8

The Suns try and get their revenge as we go to the desert and they start quickly, scoring the first two points. That was their only lead as we blow them out by 20, 118-98. Kevin Durant blitzes the very good defender in Ryan Garris for 45 points while Matt Brown goes toe-to-toe with Reggie Dobbins with 19 points and 8 assists, with Dobbins putting up 17 points and 14 assists. Garris played well apart from defending Durant with 20 points and 10 rebounds but Jared Arenas was held to only 10 points and 7 rebounds.

Dallas Mavericks 41-8

The night after we had to travel to Florida to play the Heat this is a massive flight for anyone. It didn’t have any ill effects as we took out Miami 106-92 to keep our season rolling on. James Harden top scored for the game with 26 points while Andre Drummond played distributor with 14 points, 7 assists and 6 rebounds. Gary Gravitt was the best for the Heat with 23 points in 24 minutes off the bench, going 8/9 from the field and 4/4 from three. Great use of his time.

Dallas Mavericks 42-8

I lied, we were on a five game away trip, our last one against Houston before the All Star break. Even though Kevin Durant had 29 points and 12 rebounds it was our two big guys who did the damage in our 104-94 win over the Rockets. Marcus Randle had 17 points and 18 rebounds but Andre Drummond stole the show with 24 points, 9 rebounds and 9 blocks to come agonisingly close to his fifth career triple double. Kyrie Irving did his best with 34 points but went 14/31 and Jay Warren had a stinker with a 3/14 night.

Dallas Mavericks 43-8

The trade deadline is coming up but as we are currently sitting at 43-8 I’m obviously going to sit tight with the team.

I can’t remember the last time one of my players participated in either the slam dunk contest or the long distance shootout and again we miss out. Minnesota’s Brian Jenkins came from second in the preliminaries to first in the final, beating Cleveland’s Paul Bickerstaf 73-66.

Portland’s Earl Oliver on the other hand came out hot and stayed hot to win the Long Distance Shootout, beating Milwaukee’s Steph Curry and Detroit’s John Johnson. Great trifecta right there.

In one of the most lop sided rookie/sophomore games in recent history, the second years guys blasted the rooks 152-118. There were seven players with over 12 points for the sophomores, led by Reggie Dobbins’ 23 points, 12 assists and 6 rebounds to take the MVP award honours. Willis Owens had 17 points in 16 minutes off the bench while Varlam Chavchavadze scored 22 points in his native SG position. Ledaryl McMillian was the stand out for the rookies (as usual) with 20 points, 12 assists and 7 rebounds while #1 pick Rowan Taylor had 19 points off the bench. All in all, not a good night for the rookies.

Speaking of Rowan Taylor, the #1 pick for Washington is a very unique player, but not in a good way. He has the potential to be an extremely good scorer and defender but his rebounding skills and instincts are woeful. Beyond terrible. He may have a prime of 22-27 points per game but he won’t ever get even five rebounds a contest which is terrible for a 6’11” centre.

In the All Star game, it was the starters of the West vs. the bench of the East and the bench actually won. John Johnson was the only starter for the East in double figures (he still had 31 points and won the All Star MVP award) but the bench had Andrew Owens with 20 points, Raul Lopez with 18 points and Ron Winston scoring 15 points and grabbing 8 rebounds as the visitors won 126-110. John Wall shot 2/23 from the field but handed out 13 assists. Over to the West, Kyrie Irving led the way with 22 points as Earl Oliver scored 12 points and 11 assists. The West’s starters were all in the double figures but the bench combined for only 30 points, to the East’s 65 bench points. We had Kevin Durant starting with Andre Drummond and James Harden coming off the bench for 14 and 16 minutes respectively.

Eastern Conference All Star Starters
John Wall, Memphis Grizzlies
John Johnson, Detroit Pistons
Paul Orvis, Toronto Raptors
Anthony Davis, New Orleans Hornets
Eryk Charnowski, Miami Heat

Team with most All Stars – Detroit (John Johnson (starting), Greg Monroe) and Cleveland (Ron Winston, Brooks Badu) with two.
Teams represented – Ten (Detroit, Cleveland, Toronto, New Orleans, Miami, Memphis, Boston, Orlando, Philadelphia, Brooklyn).

Western Conference All Star Starters
Kyrie Irving, Houston Rockets
Earl Oliver, Portland Trailblazers
Kevin Durant, Dallas Mavericks
Chris Drexler, Denver Nuggets
Mark Lewis, Utah Jazz

Team with most All Stars – Dallas (Kevin Durant (starting), Andre Drummond, James Harden) with three.
Teams represented – Nine (Dallas, Los Angeles Clippers, Denver, Utah, Portland, Houston, San Antonio, Oklahoma City, Phoenix).

Marcus Randle has his best game as a Maverick with 30 points and 10 rebounds but still doesn’t win the player of the game award in our 105-80 victory over the Clippers. That went to James Harden who put up 13 points, 14 rebounds and 10 assists for his fifth career triple double. Kevin Durant also chipped in a lazy 21 points and 14 rebounds. The Clippers’ two All Stars had a horrible night with Damian Lillard going 6/26 for 16 points and Christopher de Castro shooting 1/15 for 3 points. The honeymoon is over for those two after their All Star appearances.

Dallas Mavericks 44-8

I didn’t think there was going to be any trades but only one day before the deadline they have come flooding in.

Boston trade:
SF Shawn Latimer

New York trade:
SG Eric Gordon
2023 2nd round pick

Winner – Boston. Gordon may be 33 years old but he is still an explosive scorer off the bench and will accelerate Varlam Chavchavadze’s growth with his knowledge. It’s funny because New York had to include a second round pick to trade the better player.

Denver trade:
C Chris Watkins
PF LaMarcus Aldridge

San Antonio trade:
PG Brandon Jennings
2023 2nd round pick

Winner – Denver. As much as I hate Jennings he is far, far better than the combined output of Watkins and Aldridge. LMA is nothing but a $7 million expiring contract while Watkins is a third string big man. Absolute steal by the Nuggets.

Denver trade:
SG Igor Lepinat

Portland trade:
SF Jamaal Watson

Winner – Portland (just). The Blazers have a lot of SGs on the squad but at 6’7” Lepinat is truly capable of playing SF and is now starting there. Watson will be an asset for Denver as he is their new 6th man.

Houston trade:
SF Rudy Gay
2023 1st round pick

Memphis trade:
PF Chad Barrow

Winner – Houston. Gay goes back to his first home but as a shell of his former self. The first rounder will be in the 20s while Barrow is the Rockets’ starting SF. Decent by Memphis, good by Houston.

Detroit trade:
PG Brandon Knight

Chicago trade:
PF Marquis Brown
2023 2nd round pick

Winner – Chicago. Sure the Bulls now have six PGs on their roster but Knight is good enough to be their starting SG. He is small but the combination of Knight and the taller Ricky Rubio shouldn’t be much of a problem. I can see Knight breaking out in the Windy City.

Boston trade:
2023 1st round pick

New York trade:
SF Kent Harris

Winner – New York. The Knicks suck at 8-49 and Harris isn’t someone that a team should always hold onto so trading him for a first round pick makes sense. They are just stockpiling assets for the future as they have a terrible roster at the moment.

Our biggest lead against my old team, Memphis, was 47 points as we embarrass the once elite team 123-76. Kevin Durant led the way with 29 points in only 29 minutes as every one of our players had at least 10 minutes. Hayletts Smith took advantage of his 10 minutes with 11 points, 5 rebounds and 5 fouls so he had a busy night. The Grizz shot 32% from the field with the starters going 21/62 with Kenneth Faried leading the way with 19 points and 4 blocks.

Dallas Mavericks 45-8

It’s the worst and best of the Eastern Conference in two nights, with the 9-49 Knicks coming to town first. That was easy, as our largest lead was 39 points in our 116-81 swatting of my other old team New York. Kevin Durant had 41 points and 10 rebounds while Tristan Thompson dominated with 16 points and 13 rebounds in only 22 minutes off the bench. Camara Brinker is the Knicks’ best player and he is coming off a broken ankle, but still led the way with 16 points and 11 rebounds.

Dallas Mavericks 46-8

The next night was the opposite end with a visit to the 46-9 Hornets. Anthony Davis wanted to get revenge for the NBA Finals with 29 points, 16 rebounds and 9 blocks while Lewis Vines was also close to a triple double with 13 points, 10 assists, 8 rebounds and 4 steals. Too bad he shot 4/15, Bryan Plowman went 1/11 and Bill Gearhart shot 3/20 as we beat them 107-102 in a massive “come at us” game. Kevin Durant had 31 points and 9 rebounds, Andre Drummond was electric with 21 points, 14 rebounds and 6 blocks but it was Matt Brown who took the lead with 11 points, 16 assists and 8 rebounds to get us the win.

Dallas Mavericks 47-8

Our last game is a surprising 119-110 home loss to Minnesota, even with Kevin Durant and James Harden scoring 29 points each. It was all Gabe White though as the superstar had 35 points (12/19 FG, 9/15 3P!), 8 assists and 5 rebounds with rookie Enrique Mendez scoring 16 points off the bench. Tonight it was all Gabe White unfortunately.

Dallas Mavericks 47-9

After a fairly average month by Phoenix our conference lead has ballooned out to seven games, with the Suns at 41-16 and hopefully we will be able to rest some players at the end of the season. Third placed Houston are now six games behind Phoenix as it is now our number one seed to lose. Portland are definitely looking forward to next season at 21-41.

The Hornets also have a huge lead in their conference at 49-10 with Orlando in second place at 37-17, with Detroit slightly behind them at 42-20. New York are gunning for that tenth win at 9-52 and play us next game but I really hope it doesn’t come tomorrow.

Dallas Top Points
Kevin Durant – 27.5
James Harden – 16.5
Andre Drummond – 15.0

Dallas Top Assists
Matt Brown – 9.6
James Harden – 5.2
Mike Conley – 2.8

Dallas Top Rebounds
Marcus Randle – 10.6
Andre Drummond – 9.0
Kevin Durant – 7.3

League Leaders
Points – Kevin Durant (DAL) – 27.5
Assists – Reggie Dobbins (PHO) – 11.4
Rebounds – Derrick Favors (UTA) – 10.7
Blocks – Anthony Davis (NOH) – 4.2
Steals – Paul George (ORL) – 2.8
Efficiency – Anthony Davis (NOH) – 28.6

Rookie Leaders
Points – Ledaryl McMillian (GSW) – 18.5
Assists – Ledaryl McMillian (GSW) – 5.3
Rebounds – Joey Thunell (SAS) – 7.3
Blocks – Marlon Haymon (MEM) – 1.6
Steals – Joey Thunell (SAS) – 1.6
Efficiency – Ledaryl McMillian (GSW) – 18.8

Third Round of NBA Draft Prospects
1. (1) SF Tiburcio Tommasini (Italy), 17 years old, 6’5”, 228lbs
2. (2) PG Camah Williams (Washington State), Freshman, 6’3”, 186lbs
3. (3) SF Michael Graham (Alabama), Sophomore, 6’9”, 220lbs
4. (NR) SF Marlo Graham (Notre Dame), Senior, 6’9”, 204lbs
5. (5) PF Charles Means (Duke), Sophomore, 6’9”, 240lbs

Thoughts – This could be very similar to last year’s draft with Enrique Mendez and Ledaryl McMillian. Tommasini is the higher profiled player but Williams looks amazing. I can definitely see Williams breaking out in his first year if he lands on a team that will give him the keys from the get go. Interesting fact, Michael and Marlo Graham are brothers and Michael wanted to go to Notre Dame but they used their scholarships too early and missed out.

Hey welcome to the forums! Always good to see new blood around here.

As to Williams' stats -
21.8 points, 9.6 assists, 4.6 rebounds, 1.0 block and 2.2 steals per game playing as a freshman at Washington State. I could see him being the number one pick this draft and having a Ledaryl McMillian type rookie season.

February Player of the Month – Kevin Durant, Dallas Mavericks – 29.8 points, 8.0 rebounds, 1.7 assists, 0.7 steals and 1.3 blocks per game.

February Rookie of the Month – Ledaryl McMillian, Golden State Warriors – 19.7 points, 4.3 rebounds, 6.2 assists, 2.0 steals and 0.1 blocks per game.

McMillian has been so good this rookie season that he has been given a nickname by the media, “Buzzsaw”. He may only be 6’0”, 179lbs but he slices through defences and chops them up like a buzzsaw. I like it.

We make sure that the Knicks don’t get their tenth win on the season with a simple 105-88 victory behind Kevin Durant’s 30 points and 10 rebounds. James Harden also filled the cup up with 24 points and 7 assists. Ty Lawson was the leader for New York with 20 points but they shot 31% from the field but on the plus side went 18/18 from the line.

Dallas Mavericks 48-9

Chicago versus Miami. Wow, just wow.

Image

You would think that in a 137-110 win over Houston that Matt Brown would have more than nine assists but apparently not. Andre Drummond was the star with 24 points, 9 rebounds, 5 blocks and 4 assists as we had seven players in double figures and shot 53% from the field. Hayletts Smith went 6/7 for 12 points in 11 minutes and Mike Conley shot 5/8 for 15 points off the bench. As usual Kyrie Irving was the leading scorer with 31 points but Dwayne Knight was excellent off the bench with 27 points (12/15 FG) in 28 minutes.

Dallas Mavericks 49-9

It’s great to get to 50 wins before our tenth loss as we have a rollercoaster game against Seattle. Our biggest lead was 20 points but the Sonics weren’t ever out of the game, clawing back to five points before we steadied for the 131-124 victory. Kevin Durant led the way with 29 points as Marcus Randle helped with 23 points and 10 rebounds and James Harden chipped in 20 points, 11 assists and 7 rebounds. Travis Ross led the way for the Sonics with 22 points, 10 rebounds and 6 blocks and it’s great to see a guy I personally drafted do so well.

Dallas Mavericks 50-9

Well, it didn’t take long to get our tenth loss as Utah held on to a large lead to win 99-86. We fought back, outscoring the Jazz by ten in the final term but it just wasn’t enough. Derrick Favors led the way with 17 points and 10 rebounds as Mark Lewis, Jan Vesley and Issiah Hemhill all had double figure rebounds. Kevin Durant top scored for us with 25 points but Marcus Randle and James Harden combined to shoot 11/34.

Dallas Mavericks 50-10

What’s great about this team is that we don’t let losses turn into losing streaks, and this time was no different. Our first half was legendary, outscoring Philadelphia 69-31 and then cruised to a 124-84 victory. Kevin Durant had 30 points and 8 rebounds, Marcus Randle put up 24 points and 17 rebounds but they were all small fry compared to Matt Brown’s night. Our Playoff Warrior had 14 points, 14 assists and 12 rebounds to record his second ever triple double in an amazing performance. Vitaly Ekomov was the best for the Sixers with 18 points and 12 rebounds but their starting backcourt killed their chances as Ernest Davis went 0/10 and Marcello Locatelli shot 2/13 for a combined five points. Eww.

Dallas Mavericks 51-10

No triple double for Brown against Nevada but it was still a win, with Andre Drummond leading the way with 26 points and 10 rebounds as we again cruised 119-91. James Harden could have been the star of the night with 25 points, 8 assists and 7 rebounds but negated all of that with eight turnovers. It’s a golden age of point guards lately with Darren Banks another star in the making with 18 points and 10 assists. And he is Australian which makes him so much more relatable. All Americans love Australians.

Dallas Mavericks 52-10

Ouch. That was the sound of the Mavericks being forced into the Buzzsaw as the Warriors snap our streak with a 105-96 win in the Bay Area. Ledaryl McMillian had 15 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 steals in a fantastic all around game. Kevin Durant tried his best with 31 points but when we shoot 39% from the field and 68% from the line we aren’t winning many games.

Dallas Mavericks 52-11

Chav-chav has arrived. The second year Estonian exploded for 46 points and 8 assists, going 15/28 from the field and a whopping 13/20 from three but we still took the 115-110 win. The reason is even tough Chavchavadze shot over 50% from the field, the rest of his team didn’t far too well, going below 40%. Andre Drummond was a major reason for that with 24 points, 8 rebounds and 5 blocks but also altering a lot more. Marcus Randle chipped in 15 points and 16 rebounds.

Dallas Mavericks 53-11

The Kings shot 37% from the field and we were only equal at three quarter time. It didn’t help that we shot 34% for the game, as Sacramento ripped our heart out with 25-13 last quarter to give us our 12th loss on the season 103-91. DeMarcus Cousins demolished Andre Drummond with 18 points, 12 rebounds and 8 blocks, with Lisandro Perez helping out with 18 points and 11 rebounds. I’m glad that I got rid of Joe Abney though as he shot 6/21 for 21 points which is just terrible. Marcus Randle was our best with 17 points and 12 rebounds but Tristan Thompson went 3/14 from the foul line for 9 points in 12 minutes. That is Mark Lewis type shooting there.

Dallas Mavericks 53-12

It was a whole team effort in our 116-107 win over Denver as seven players were in double figures and Hayletts Smith had 8 points in 7 minutes as our depth overcame the Nuggets. Kevin Durant led the way with 27 points and 8 rebounds but went 9/26 from the field which is below par. Brandon Jennings has fit in nicely with his new team, scoring 23 points and dishing out 7 assists before fouling out.

Dallas Mavericks 54-12

Golden State came to town and we finally dulled the Buzzsaw in our 111-70 win. McMillian had 21 points but shot 8/19 and only had one rebound, one assist and four turnovers. A lot of pressure to put on a rookie but his play this season has been exciting and there isn’t that much talent on that roster. Andre Drummond led the way with 24 points and 7 rebounds while shooting 10/13 from the field. Very nice output from AD.

Dallas Mavericks 55-12

Another blowout, this time a 98-78 run away win over Minnesota. It was our second half that won it for us which is strange, as we outscored the Wolves 59-34. Marcus Randle destroyed all in his path with 23 points and 13 rebounds while holding Mike Bailey to a 0/8 night. James Harden chipped in 21 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists. Gabe White top scored for Minnesota with 21 points but shot only 7/22 as the team went 33% from the field. In fact, they shot better from three (16/41, 39%) than from two point land (13/45, 29%).

Dallas Mavericks 56-12

If Matt Brown wasn’t in the argument as the best PG in the league then this performance in our 113-101 win over Indiana should do it. Brown was amazing, with 17 points, 13 assists and 10 rebounds for his second triple double in two weeks. Andre Drummond was also great with 16 points, 13 rebounds and 5 blocks but he was a distant second. John Weir tried to run with Brown but fell short, scoring 22 points in the loss. Former #1 draft pick Casey Floyd seems to have found his groove after a very rocky start to his career. Coming over to Indiana last season after a terrible 2020 in Toronto he is now averaging 16 points and 6 rebounds a game which good defence. Not #1 pick stats but at least he has shaken off the ‘bust’ tag.

Dallas Mavericks 57-12

What. A. Game. The equally awesome Detroit Pistons came to town and it was a massive dogfight from start to finish. There were a whopping 28 lead changes and 22 ties. Strangely enough, for the last three and a half minutes of regulation there was no scoring whatsoever, with the game ending at 118-118. Kevin Durant took over in the overtime period like usual, but he didn’t get it all his way as Detroit’s superstar John Johnson went point for point in extra time, before Marcus Randle hit a three and then Matt Brown hit two free throws to give the edge to us permanently, 135-130. Kevin Durant finished with 39 points with Andre Drummond throwing in 23 points and Matt Brown scoring Jrue Holiday for 21 points (8/11 FG) and 15 assists. John Johnson didn’t do much in the regulation but eventually finished with 29 points while Greg Monroe was his running mate with 23 points and 10 rebounds. Amazing game and really reinforced us as THE team to beat this post season.

Dallas Mavericks 58-12

After that massive effort against Detroit it was disappointing to lose against Orlando in Florida 111-107. Klay Thompson did the damage with 21 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists but we were pooped after the Detroit struggle and only shot 40% from the field. Marcus Randle was the main offender with a 1/15 night for 9 points and 15 rebounds as Kevin Durant shouldered the scoring load with 43 points in the loss. Matt Brown tried his best with 8 points, 14 assists and 8 rebounds but turned the ball over five times.

Dallas Mavericks 58-13

Earlier in the month we went 3-3 over a six game stretch (gasp, how shocking) which put us out of the running for the best record ever but we did finish March with a 11-4 record which puts us eight games ahead of Phoenix. With eleven games left in the season the Suns would need a catastrophic implosion for us to lose the top seed and hopefully we can sew it up so our bench can get a run. Seattle are down the bottom but at a respectable 24-47.

New Orleans have overtaken us as the best team in the league with a 59-13 record, half a game ahead of us. Detroit may as well not even be in the picture, as they are at 52-24, eleven games behind. I think all of New York’s staff are now on the draft trail as they have pretty much locked up the worst record in the league at 12-62.

Thoughts
– It seems that the top two are set in Williams and Tommasini while Jackson, Means and the Graham brothers will round out the top six. Good to see the first SG on the list bump up to #12 in Reggie Blake from Auburn.

March Player of the Month – Kyrie Irving, Houston Rockets – 27.4 points, 5.4 rebounds, 6.6 assists, 1.3 steals and 0.9 blocks per game.

March Rookie of the Month – Ledaryl McMillian, Golden State Warriors – 18.6 points, 3.3 rebounds, 5.2 assists, 1.5 steals and 0.2 blocks per game.

We’re eight games ahead of Phoenix with eleven games left in the season so if we can win the next three or four we should wrap up the one seed and let our stars relax on the bench.

It’s a good start as we blast the Neon 105-84 after a 31-12 final quarter to really rub salt in their wounds. James Harden led the way with 28 points but it was Matt Brown with the best game of the night. He finished with 12 points, 12 assists and 10 rebounds and he is becoming a walking triple double. Antoine Martin led the way for Nevada with 16 points.

Dallas Mavericks 59-13

When Sacramento shoots 33% from the field there is bound to plenty of rebounds to be had, and our 65-55 rebounding edge won us the game, 102-78. Andre Drummond was our best with 19 points, 13 rebounds and 5 blocks but there was also Marcus Randle (20 points, 16 rebounds), James Harden (20 points, 13 rebounds) and Matt Brown (10 points, 11 assists, 7 rebounds) who did the damage. Lisandro Perez made up for a terrible shooting night by DeMarcus Cousins with 26 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists as DMC shot 5/20 for 12 points, 15 rebounds and 5 blocks.

Dallas Mavericks 60-13

In our 124-107 win over the Clippers Kevin Durant and Andre Drummond combined for 73 points on 29/35 shooting which is simply phenomenal. For two top tier players to miss six shots in a whole game is amazing, no wonder the Clippers couldn’t keep up. James Harden and Matt Brown did the distributing, combining for 23 assists. Damian Lillard top scored for LA with 34 points with Stefan Nitschke putting up 21 points and 8 rebounds off the bench. Honestly, this game’s highlights would feature nothing but Durant and Drummond plays, that’s how dominant they were.

Dallas Mavericks 61-13

With our 110-88 beat down of Washington we have claimed the number one seed in the West. Andre Drummond was our best with 19 points and 13 rebounds but we also had great contributions from Kevin Durant (27 points) and James Harden (20 points, 10 assists). Alton Hardy had 21 points and 8 rebounds for the losers while #1 pick Rowan Taylor had a night to forget with 5 points and 1 rebound before fouling out.

Dallas Mavericks 62-13

Our new starting five is –

PG – Matias Perez
SG – Sean Gilmore
SF – Davis Forney
PF – Tristan Thompson
C – Ricardo Marquardt

The first game was not pretty as the Bobcats destroyed us 116-79. Tristan Thompson led the way with 17 points and 8 rebounds while Matias Perez handed out nine assists. Jacob Alexander was the top scorer with 25 points while Thomas Cooper and Harrison Barnes combined for 33 points and 17 rebounds.

Dallas Mavericks 62-14

It was probably silly of me to take all of our starters out as Matt Brown and Marcus Randle still want to play. Marcus came up to me after the Charlotte game and told me that he doesn’t want to sit on the bench for the rest of the season as it was his first real season and wants to get as much game time as he can. That sounds fantastic to me, a young guy wanting to play just to get his minutes up so Jaymes grants his wish.

What a difference a bit of trust does, as Tristan Thompson went supernova in our 120-113 win over San Antonio. Our best bench big had 35 points and 17 rebounds, making a scary combination with Marcus Randle who had 20 points and 15 rebounds. Matt Brown helped them both out with 18 points, 15 assists and 7 rebounds and Sean Gilmore put in 15 points. Jon Mitchell led the way for the Spurs with 27 points and it seems that Kevin Love is on his way down, tonight only having 15 points and 10 rebounds.

Dallas Mavericks 63-14

In a game where none of our guys had standout games, we lost 100-92 to Golden State. As you could have guessed, the Buzzsaw lit us up with 24 points, 8 assists and 5 rebounds. Marcus Randle had our best game with 24 points and 10 rebounds.

Dallas Mavericks 63-15

Jaymes brings all of our starters back for our game against New Orleans, because it seems if we win this game we should get home court advantage for the playoffs. We do just that, grinding out a 99-89 win where we had a 24 point lead in the third quarter, just to see it disappear. We have grown as a team and our experience helped us hold onto the lead. Kevin Durant had 33 points while James Harden and Matt Brown combined for 31 points, 17 rebounds and 14 assists. Anthony David did what he usually does with 21 points, 14 rebounds, 7 blocks and 5 steals but the rest of the team shot 28% from the field.

Dallas Mavericks 64-15

We didn’t want to leave anything to chance so the starters played in our next game against Atlanta. It didn’t really matter because they didn’t play many minutes as we got out to a 30-17 first quarter lead and 64-43 first half lead. Matt Brown was close to a triple double with 10 points, 12 assists and 9 rebounds but it was James Harden who led the way with 26 points, 8 assists and 7 rebounds. Tyreke Evans had the most points for the Hawks with 19 points but needed 19 shots to get them.

Dallas Mavericks 65-15

We now officially have the best record in the league after we took care of Utah 100-88. James Harden had 34 points and 7 turnovers while Marcus Randle forced Derrick Favors into shooting 7/23 on the night.

Dallas Mavericks 66-15

Oh well. The Thunder flog us 104-83 as our big three have a rest. Sean Gilmore fills in admirably for James Harden with 25 points and 7 rebounds while David Forney scored 17 points. Russell Westbrook torched Matt Brown for 37 points while our old friend Michael Kidd-Gilchrist had a great all around game with 19 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists.

Dallas Mavericks 66-16

Western Conference Final Standings
1 – Dallas Mavericks – 66-16 (.805)
2 – Phoenix Suns – 55-27 (.671)
3 – Houston Rockets – 50-32 (.610)
4 – Milwaukee Bucks – 47-35 (.573)
5 – Denver Nuggets – 46-36 (.561)

2023 NBA Playoffs

Eastern Conference
#1 New Orleans vs. #8 Charlotte
#2 Detroit vs. #7 Indiana
#3 Boston vs. #6 Philadelphia
#4 Brooklyn vs. #5 Orlando

Western Conference
#1 Dallas vs. #8 Los Angeles Lakers
#2 Phoenix vs. #7 Utah
#3 Houston vs. #6 Oklahoma City
#4 Milwaukee vs. #5 Denver

We swept the season series against the Lakers 3-0, in fact we didn’t lose a game against either Los Angeles team which sounds good.

Western Conference First Round – Los Angeles vs. Dallas

Point Guard
Joe Holmes vs. Matt Brown
17.2 points, 2.3 assists, 4.6 rebounds vs. 11.0 points, 9.6 assists, 5.3 rebounds

This match-up couldn’t be more different with Holmes being scoring first, second and third while Matt Brown excels in making that sweet dish. The biggest difference is on the other end of the floor, as Holmes is a terrible defender which doesn’t bode well for the Lakers with Brown in the key with his head up is a headache that won’t go away.

Winner - Dallas

Shooting Guard
Josh Jackson vs. James Harden
11.2 points, 7.8 assists, 4.2 rebounds vs. 17.1 points, 5.4 assists, 5.6 rebounds

Here is the distributor of the Lakers’ starting five (their two best passers are languishing on the bench). Too bad he is a worse defender than Holmes and Harden has a point to prove after the media has called him ‘over the hill’ during the season. Look for the Beard to light up Jackson.

Winner - Dallas

Small Forward
Andrew Seitz vs. Kevin Durant
12.8 points, 1.8 assists, 5.0 rebounds vs. 26.9 points, 1.6 assists, 7.2 rebounds

Durant is on the hunt for another title after leading the Mavericks last season, and reports are that he desperately wants two titles to get one ahead of Lebron James, his Bird to Durant’s Magic. Seitz is LA’s best defender but that’s not saying much, look for Durant to carry the load.

Winner - Dallas

Power Forward
Chad Dickenman vs. Marcus Randle
15.4 points, 1.4 assists, 7.4 rebounds vs. 14.5 points, 1.1 assists, 10.6 rebounds

Young star versus younger star there are two guys you are going to hear from for years to come. Dickenman does pretty much everything as he is an above average scorer, rebounder, defender, shot blocker and thief and will need to play huge against the flavour of the month in Randle. Randle’s season has been exceptional for someone so young and if he plays well in these playoffs look for his stock to rise astronomically.

Winner - Draw

Centre
Jeff Cunningham vs. Andre Drummond
20.1 points, 1.2 assists, 7.1 rebounds vs. 15.7 points, 1.6 assists, 8.9 rebounds

Offence versus defence and offence won last season in the first round. Drummond had no answer for Cunningham, getting in foul trouble in nearly all of their games. If the Lakers’ want to cause a huge upset then Cunningham really needs to play out of his skin.

Winner - Draw

Bench
Bryce Metcalf, Tate McKenzie, Kendall Marshall vs. Tristan Thompson, Gerald Henderson, Royce White

All three Los Angeles players could be starters in any other team, and good starters to boot. Kendall Marshall is an amazing passer and has led the league in assists as soon as last season. Metcalf will be needed for inside defence while McKenzie is a ball hawk. Thompson has been instrumental this season as the leader of the second unit and even though Henderson was brought in late his leadership has had a calming effect on the team.

Winner – Los Angeles

Prediction – Dallas in four. Just like last year this has all the markings of a sweep.

The first half of game one was a tight one, with sixteen lead changes as the Lakers held the lead at the main break 60-56. Andrew Seitz went blow for blow with Kevin Durant as LA’s SF had 32 points and 8 rebounds compared to Durant’s 35 points and 8 rebounds and this game was on a knife edge. After half time that knife fell in the Lakers’ back as we ran off a 29-13 third quarter and 25-18 final term to take first blood 110-91. Defence beat Offence tonight with Andre Drummond putting up 20 points and 7 rebounds compared to Jeff Cunningham’s’ 9 points and 9 rebounds on 2/14 shooting. Matt Brown was electric with 22 points and 10 assists while causing Joe Holmes to turn the ball over eight times in the loss.

Dallas leads 1-0

Jeff Cunningham was held again to only 14 points and 11 rebounds (and six blocks) as we won every quarter by a fair bit to take game two 131-92. Our second quarter was the best, as we outscored our opposition 40-25. James Harden led the way with 27 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists as Matt Brown handed him plenty of gimmes with 15 points, 17 assists and 6 rebounds. Chad Dickenman was the best for Los Angeles with 21 points and 9 rebounds but when the shooting percentages are as wide as 57% to 34% then it’s going to be a long night.

Dallas leads 2-0

Jeff Cunningham had a better game in their first home stand for the playoffs with 15 points, 14 rebounds and 5 blocks while Joe Holmes put up 24 points but Andre Drummond had his best game I have ever seen in a Dallas uniform as we take the Lakers to the brink with a 113-91 victory. Andre torched Cunningham for 40 points, 8 rebounds and 7 blocks to practically win the game on his own back. Marcus Randle didn’t shoot well put hauled in 19 rebounds in the win. One more game and we move on.

Dallas leads 3-0

Los Angeles didn’t want to get swept for the second consecutive year so brought their A game tonight, staying with us for most of the battle. Jeff Cunningham had a better night with 17 points, 11 rebounds and 7 assists while Bryce Metcalf was let loose after Chad Dickenman fouled out early with 14 rebounds. Unfortunately they couldn’t handle Kevin Durant and Matt Brown as we bring out the brooms again 105-100. Durant had 30 points while Matt Brown put up 15 points and 17 assists but the biggest surprise was Tristan Thompson’s 10 points and 7 rebounds off the bench. It was good to get past the Lakers early so we can rest up and look forward to the next series.

Dallas wins 4-0

#1 and #2 seeds New Orleans and Detroit both swept their series pretty easily and moves on with a big wind behind their sails. The next day #4 Milwaukee took out #5 Denver in five games, going through to the next round to play us. #3 Houston took care of #6 Oklahoma City in six games while #6 Philadelphia and #5 Orlando caused the upsets over their higher seeded opponents in six games each. The biggest upset in the playoffs so far was the #7 Utah Jazz taking care of #2 Phoenix in game seven and they look like the Jazz of a couple of years ago.
