Charlotte Bobcats - Mission Improbable?

Postby ukballer » Mon Jul 16, 2012 6:27 am

Charlotte Bobcats (2-23) @ Brooklyn Nets (8-17) - Dec 23rd 2012

Where the hell did this one come from? Nets look a bad team anyway, but we went on the road and decimated them by 21 points. Deron Williams was their one bright spot, the rest of their team played horribly. Gerald Henderson was a monster, and Kemba put up Rondo like numbers. This is the first game I've seen us really take a stranglehold of and dominate in every quarter, and not falter at the end. Excellent win.

Final Score: Bobcats 99-78 Nets

POTG: Gerald Henderson (CHA) - 34 pts, 4 rebs, 2 ast, 2 blk

Notable Mentions: Deron Williams (BRO) - 23 pts, 4 rebs, 6 ast, 2 stl
Kemba Walker (CHA) - 13 pts, 9 rebs, 10 ast, 2 stl
Derrick Brown (CHA) - 18 pts, 8 rebs, 2 stl

Golden State Warriors (13-16) @ Charlotte Bobcats (3-23) - Dec 26th 2012

I gave the guys Christmas Eve and Day off to spend some time with their families and have a small break from ball before starting up again on Boxing Day. Sadly though, they'd clearly been eating too much Christmas pudding, and were horribly slow out of the gates, pretty much deciding the outcome of the game with only one quarter down. We pretty matched them from then on, but made no inroads into their lead. Disappointing. Without the terrible start there is no reason why we wouldn't have won this one. Even more disappointing is the fact Gerald Henderson had a hamstring strain and might miss a game or two. That's up to the coaching staff.

Final Score: Warriors 115-93 Bobcats

POTG: David Lee (GSW) - 27 pts, 9 rebs, 2 ast

Notable Mentions: Klay Thompson (GSW) - 18 pts, 4 rebs
Michael Kidd-Gilchrist (CHA) - 18 pts, 5 rebs, 3 ast, 5 stl
Andrew Bogut (GSW) - 17 pts, 10 rebs, 3 ast, 2 stl, 3 blk

Indiana Pacers (9-19) @ Charlotte Bobcats (3-24) - Dec 29th 2012

Another team that had a good season last time round, but are having a tough time in 2012, despite keeping all their main pieces and adding some more. This game was an absolute battle. We built up a good lead, but of course things slowed down in the 4th and they tied the game with a few seconds left. We ended up in Overtime, and the guys found a second win, and somehow we will pulled it off! Gerald did play, but 'only' 28 minutes, do D.J. Augustin and Ben Gordon came off the bench and played extended minutes, and did a great job.

Final Score: Pacers 94-99 Bobcats (OT)

POTG: Kemba Walker (CHA) - 21 pts, 9 rebs, 6 ast, 2 stl

Notable Mentions: Danny Granger (IND) - 21 pts, 4 rebs, 3 stl
Derrick Brown (CHA) - 17 pts, 12 rebs
Paul George (IND) - 18 pts, 12 rebs, 2 stl
D.J. Augustin (CHA) - 17 pts, 6 ast
Ben Gordon (CHA) - 15 pts, 5 rebs

Charlotte Bobcats (4-24) @ Chicago Bulls (14-15) - Dec 31st 2012

Another real battle against a very underachieving Bulls team so far. Once again we had Gerald on limited minutes, meaning D.J. and Ben saw more minutes again, and both did a reasonable job. Sadly though, we haven't laid our 4th quarter demons to rest, and we let a 3 point lead turn into a 6 point loss with just 6 minutes of the game left. Seeing the damage BG did in limited minutes though, I hope Coach Dunlap will give him more chances to give us some offense we so often clearly lack.

Final Score: Bobcats 90-96 Bulls

POTG: Joakim Noah (CHI) - 21 pts, 14 rebs, 2 ast, 4 blk, 3 stl

Notable Mentions: Derrick Rose (CHI) - 26 pts, 5 rebs, 5 ast, 3 blk
Ben Gordon (CHA) - 18 pts, 3 rebs in 17 minutes of play

Chicago Bulls (15-15) @ Charlotte Bobcats (4-25) - Jan 2nd 2013

Our turn to host the Bulls now. We took hold of this game and never looked back, and really stamped home our authority. Kemba continues to flirt with a triple-double, hopefully he can get one before the season is out. Chicago's bench production was terrible, with only 17 points, while our bench dropped 39 in total. An extremely pleasing, and balanced scoring effort from the guys. Happy new year Bobcats nation!

Final Score: Bulls 96-109 Bobcats

POTG: Kemba Walker (CHA) - 20 pts, 6 rebs, 8 ast, 3 stl

Notable Mentions: Joakim Noah (CHI) - 25 pts, 11 rebs, 2 blk
Michael Kidd-Gilchrist (CHA) - 16 pts, 3 rebs, 7 ast, 3 stl
Chris Wilcox (CHI) - 18 pts, 13 rebs, 2 ast

Charlotte Bobcats (5-25) @ Orlando Magic (24-8) - Jan 5th 2013

Back down to earth in a big way against a very stacked Orlando team, who we were just completely out of our depth against. Andre Drummond fouled out in 12 minutes of play trying to guard Dwight Howard, who was a monster. Welcome to the league, rook. Gerald Henderson played ok, everyone else sucked. (Note: Lester Hudson starts over Ray Allen...)

Final Score: Bobcats 91-121 Magic

POTG: Dwight Howard (ORL) - 36 pts, 14 rebs, 2 blk, 4 stl

Notable Mentions: Ray Allen (ORL) - 22 pts, 6 rebs, 3 ast off the bench
Gerald Henderson (CHA) - 22 pts, 4 rebs, 2 ast
Jameer Nelson (ORL) - 17 pts, 4 rebs, 10 ast

Brooklyn Nets (12-21) @ Charlotte Bobcats (5-26) - Jan 6th 2013

We were the victors last time against the Nets, and is so far our only road win of the season. However, the tables turn here, and our offense was non-existent most of the game. Gerald Henderson once again was our lone bright spark in the scoring department, while the rest of the team were left lagging behind.

Final Score: Nets 102-89 Bobcats

POTG: Deron Williams (BRO) - 26 pts, 12 ast

Notable Mentions: Gerald Henderson (CHA) - 20 pts, 7 rebs, 4 ast
Omer Asik (BRO) - 18 pts, 14 rebs, 3 ast, 3 blk

New Orleans Hornets (16-17) @ Charlotte Bobcats (5-27) - Jan 8th 2013

Not one of my better birthday's tonight. Our offense is just disgustingly bad right now, and one of the things I actually thought we might be half decent at, defending, is just as bad too. Thought we'd turned the corner after a couple of wins around New Year, but it seems worse than ever now.

Final Score: Hornets 101-79 Bobcats

POTG: Jason Smith (NOH) - 20 pts, 6 rebs, 2 stl, 3 blk

Notable Mentions: Kawhi Leonard (NOH) - 14 pts, 7 rebs, 2 ast, 4 stl
Gerald Henderson (CHA) - 14 pts, 7 rebs

Charlotte Bobcats (5-28) @ Denver Nuggets (24-12) - Jan 10th 2013

Another complete rout. Our top scorer was D.J. Augustin off the bench with 13 points. Our inability to score lately is deciding the outcome of all our games far too early. Denver were on fire too which compounded our misery.

Final Score: Bobcats 89-126 Nuggets

POTG: Kenneth Faried (DEN) - 21 pts, 12 rebs, 4 stl

Notable Mentions: Avery Bradley (DEN) - 18 pts, 4 rebs
Ty Lawson (DEN) - 16 pts, 7 rebs, 7 ast, 2 stl

Charlotte Bobcats (5-29) @ Los Angeles Clippers (25-11) - Jan 12th 2013

Unsurprisingly we lost, but we were more competitive in this one than we had been in any game for a while, even against a strong team like the Clips. Still lacking some offense, but we kept the game as close as we could.

Final Score: Bobcats 85-98 Clippers

POTG: Blake Griffin (LAC) - 27 pts, 11 rebs

Notable Mentions: Chris Paul (LAC) - 20 pts, 4 rebs, 10 ast
Gerald Henderson (CHA) - 20 pts, 2 rebs, 3 ast, 3 stl
Michael Kidd-Gilchrist (CHA) - 18 pts, 6 rebs, 4 ast

Charlotte Bobcats (5-30) @ Los Angeles Lakers (16-19) - Jan 14th 2013

Well, that came out of nowhere! The Lakers have looked very average so far this season, and that trend continued. We were able to stay with them all game long, and it appeared the shoe was on the other foot, and the Lakers offense was non-existent in the 4th Quarter, and we were able to pull it off. For whatever reason, the Bobcats have often had the Lakers number in the last few seasons, and even with our bad team, we pulled off a win at Staples Center. Kobe and Bynum were strong, the rest of their team sucked. Gerald Henderson didn't start as he's struggling with an injury, and played just 1 minute. We had D.J. Augustin starting at the 2, which surprised me a little with Kobe being the other 2 guard, but he did ok.

Final Score: Bobcats 90-83 Lakers

POTG: Derrick Brown (CHA) - 16 pts, 10 rebs

Notable Mentions: Kobe Bryant (LAL) - 28 pts, 3 rebs, 2 ast, 3 stl
Andrew Bynum (LAL) - 20 pts, 13 rebs, 5 blk
Michael Kidd-Gilchrist (CHA) - 18 pts, 5 rebs, 3 ast
Kemba Walker (CHA) - 17 pts, 5 ast

Charlotte Bobcats (6-30) @ Portland Trail Blazers (10-26) - Jan 16th 2013

Thought we'd have a chance at making it 2 road wins in a row against a struggling Blazers side, but once again our offense was terrible. Our one bright spark was D.J. Augustin, the rest of the team struggling badly. It was nice to see Bismack Biyombo playing well, but shame he completely outplayed Drummond, who seems to have hit the rookie wall, and has struggled a lot lately. He needs the experience and minutes, and we'll keep faith in him, but we had hoped for a little more by this point.

Final Score: Bobcats 80-107 Trail Blazers

POTG: LaMarcus Aldridge (POR) - 25 pts, 8 rebs, 2 blk

Notable Mentions: D.J. Augustin (CHA) - 23 pts, 4 rebs, 6 ast
Bismack Biyombo (POR) - 17 pts, 13 rebs, 5 blk

Charlotte Bobcats (6-31) @ Milwaukee Bucks (20-20) - Jan 17th 2013

Disgustingly bad. I was embarrassed for everyone involved.

Final Score: Bobcats 77-110 Bucks

POTG: Brandon Jennings (MIL) - 33 pts, 6 rebs, 7 ast

Notable Mentions: Ben Gordon (CHA) - 23 pts, 3 rebs, 3 ast
Ersan Ilyasova (MIL) - 18 pts, 7 rebs, 2 stl
Andre Drummond (CHA) - 16 pts, 7 rebs

Charlotte Bobcats (6-32) @ Memphis Grizzlies (14-26) - Jan 20th 2013

Close game all the way, neither team playing particularly well, but sadly we choked in the 4th quarter again. Good to see Gerald Henderson back playing his usual role again, wasn't his best game but he'll be back to his best very soon.

Final Score: Bobcats 78-83 Grizzlies

POTG: Marc Gasol (MEM) - 23 pts, 11 rebs, 3 stl, 4 blk

Notable Mentions: Mike Conley (MEM) - 19 pts, 3 rebs, 5 ast
Derrick Brown (CHA) - 18 pts, 5 rebs, 2 stl

Charlotte Bobcats (6-33) @ Utah Jazz (18-23) - Jan 21st 2013

End of a tough road trip. Another poor, poor effort, outrebounded by 20. We've got a few days off before playing against the Raptors, so I ask Coach Dunlap to crack the whip in practice.

Final Score: Bobcats 70-107 Jazz

POTG: Paul Millsap (UTA) - 32 pts, 16 rebs, 4 stl

Notable Mentions: Gerald Henderson (CHA) - 18 pts, 3 rebs, 3 ast, 2 stl

Toronto Raptors (8-35) @ Charlotte Bobcats (6-34) - Jan 24th 2013

Officially the two worst teams in the league, by record, matched up tonight. Our first home game in a little while, and we really wanted to give the ever decreasing crowd something to cheer about for once. Finally, we put our shooting woes behind us, and Gerald Henderson led a very balanced scoring output from our guys. Was great to see the ball dropping for us, and we played with much confidence throughout the game. I've seen teams in the past that often can steal a few games against strong opposition, but tend to blow against teams with similarly bad records, so this is a big win for us.

Final Score: Raptors 98-108 Bobcats

POTG: Derrick Brown (CHA) - 17 pts, 7 rebs, 4 ast, 3 stl

Notable Mentions: Andrea Bargnani (TOR) - 22 pts, 10 rebs
Gerald Henderson (CHA) - 20 pts, 4 rebs, 3 stl

Orlando Magic (28-14) @ Charlotte Bobcats (7-34) - Jan 27th 2013

Boy oh boy, we crushed them in the final quarter! Game was close all the way until the 4th, where we outscored them 30-11! Great performance at both ends of the floor from our guys, very proud. Andre Drummond in particular played great, and made Dwight Howard's day very difficult. Howard ended the game 4-15, and only got to the FT line 6 times. We look a different team compared to last week, very pleasing.

Final Score: Magic 79-90 Bobcats

POTG: Gerald Henderson (CHA) - 18 pts, 6 rebs, 3 ast, 3 stl

Notable Mentions: Andre Drummond (CHA) - 13 pts, 7 rebs, 2 ast, 3 stl, 2 blk - While guarding Dwight Howard
Ryan Anderson (ORL) - 15 pts, 6 rebs, 2 stl

Washington Wizards (22-22) @ Charlotte Bobcats (8-34) - Jan 29th 2013

Our home stand was going really well, and who'd have thought we would have a shot at 3 wins in a row? Unfortunately we came up short against the Wizards, but didn't disgrace ourselves against them. They look like a different team compared to their former selves last season, which can only be a good thing.

Final Score: Wizards 95-88 Bobcats

POTG: Trevor Ariza (WAS) - 20 pts, 4 rebs, 5 ast, 2 blk, 3 stl

Notable Mentions: Thomas Robinson (WAS) - 20 pts, 8 rebs, 2 ast, 2 stl
Michael Kidd-Gilchrist (CHA) - 16 pts, 4 rebs, 2 ast, 4 stl
John Wall (WAS) - 18 pts, 10 rebs, 5 ast

Miami Heat (39-5) @ Charlotte Bobcats (8-35) - Jan 31st 2013

This was a very open, flowing game against the defending champions, and again we didn't disgrace ourselves, but we never really had a realistic chance.

Final Score: Heat 119-102 Bobcats

POTG: Dwyane Wade (MIA) - 26 pts, 9 rebs, 6 ast, 4 stl

Notable Mentions: LeBron James (MIA) - 25 pts, 5 rebs, 5 ast
Kemba Walker (CHA) - 20 pts, 2 rebs, 7 ast
Derrick Brown (CHA) - 20 pts, 2 ast

safe to say your not going to be as historically bad as the cats were in real life so good job really. Have you allowed yourself to think ahead to the draft and what you want to bring in?

Not yet. I'm waiting until the All-Star break which isn't too far away to have a real reflection on what has happened, and what our plans are going forward.

Coming off the back of 2 pleasing wins, I could finally allow myself just a little time to relax, but of course something else had to intervene.

Ben Gordon has been growing increasingly unhappy at the lack of playing time he currently gets from Coach Mike Dunlap. BG's frustration grew so much eventually he let it slip to the media that things were not good between himself and Dunlap. When asked about his comments myself from the media, I made it clear that we'd have an in-house discussion about this, and refused to make any further comment.

After having a one-on-one discussion with BG, he made it very clear that he's actually very happy being in Charlotte, loves his teammates, and has utmost respect for the franchise. But he's butted heads with Dunlap a few times over playing time, or rather the lack of it. Ben is averaging just over 19 minutes a game, scoring just over 9 points a game in that time, which considering his minutes is a very good clip.

While I'm no advocate of player power in any sense, I actually have to side with Ben on this one. His lack of court time is not the only puzzling decision I've seen from Coach Dunlap this season, and I myself have privately questioned some of Dunlap's rotation decisions. While I don't think me having a say in the coaching staff's decisions is right, I will at least be keeping an eye on things a bit more, and see what we do going forward.

Charlotte Bobcats (8-36) @ Cleveland Cavaliers (14-32) - Feb 2nd 2013

Not a good offensive output from us once again, but we did keep this close for most of the time. Ben Gordon plays just 17 minutes in this game. Coach seems to be standing his ground then, just have to hope this doesn't build up into something really ugly.

Final Score: Bobcats 83-97 Cavaliers

POTG: Kyrie Irving (CLE) - 24 pts, 9 rebs, 3 ast

Notable Mentions: Tristan Thompson (CLE) - 22 pts, 12 rebs
Alonzo Gee (CLE) - 18 pts, 6 rebs, 2 stl
Gerald Henderson (CHA) - 17 pts, 4 rebs, 3 ast, 2 stl

Houston Rockets (20-25) @ Charlotte Bobcats (8-37) - Feb 3rd 2013

Great performance by the team, kept in control of this one the whole game. BG plays only 17 minutes again, but dropped 20 points in that time. Point proven, Coach? Tyrus Thomas and Byron Mullens both got into double figures off the bench too, which was nice to see.

Final Score: Rockets 87-103 Bobcats

POTG: Ben Gordon (CHA) - 20 pts, 5 rebs

Notable Mentions: Michael Kidd-Gilchrist (CHA) - 16 pts, 2 rebs, 3 ast, 2 stl
Luis Scola (HOU) - 17 pts, 9 rebs, 2 ast

Phoenix Suns (19-28) @ Charlotte Bobcats (9-37) - Feb 5th 2013

Heartbreaking loss in this one, an absolutely fantastic game to watch, trading the lead numerous times. Kemba Walker, who had a monstrous game after struggling a little these past few weeks, went for the game winning 3, but it just rattled out at the end, gutted. Very fun game though, glad we could put on a show for the fans. MKG had a monster game too.

Final Score: Suns 100-98 Bobcats

POTG: Marcin Gortat (PHX) - 23 pts, 14 rebs, 2 stl

Notable Mentions: Kemba Walker (CHA) - 26 pts, 3 rebs, 5 ast, 2 blk
Michael Kidd-Gilchrist (CHA) - 21 pts, 9 rebs, 4 ast, 6 stl
Gerald Henderson (CHA) - 20 pts, 3 rebs, 3 ast

Charlotte Bobcats (9-38) @ Detroit Pistons (19-27) - Feb 7th 2013

We got absolutely murdered against a very average Pistons team. We had no energy, came out flat and didn't show anything positive in this game. Even in our losses during the last few games, we've shown great flashes of play, but this was just disgustingly bad.

Final Score: Bobcats 77-111 Pistons

POTG: Greg Monroe (DET) - 22 pts, 13 rebs, 5 ast

Notable Mentions: Corey Maggette (DET) - 18 pts, 4 rebs, 2 ast, 2 stl
Chris Kaman (DET) - 15 pts, 6 rebs, 2 ast, 4 blk
Andre Drummond (CHA) - 14 pts, 9 rebs, 2 stl

Charlotte Bobcats (9-39) @ Philadelphia 76ers (33-15) - Feb 10th 2013

We didn't expect much against a scarily good looking Sixers team. We fought hard, but the shots didn't fall, and Philly had no real trouble beating us.

Final Score: Bobcats 81-94 76ers

POTG: Andre Iguodala (PHI) - 22 pts, 4 rebs, 3 ast, 3 stl

Notable Mentions: Jrue Holiday (PHI) - 18 pts, 5 rebs, 8 ast, 2 stl
Kemba Walker (CHA) - 18 pts, 6 rebs, 5 ast

Atlanta Hawks (29-20) @ Charlotte Bobcats (9-40) - Feb 11th 2013

WHAT THE? We just scored 126 points in one game, against a strong Hawks team. Hello incredible offense! This was totally out of the blue, and nothing something we should get used to, but this was a beatdown, we really shot the ball well. We led by as much as 32 points, just showing our dominance in this one. With these out of the blue wins we sometimes get, it just confuses me even more, each time.

Final Score: Hawks 102-126 Bobcats

POTG: Kemba Walker (CHA) - 25 pts, 6 rebs, 10 ast

Notable Mentions: Ben Gordon (CHA) - 21 pts, 3 rebs
Derrick Brown (CHA) - 20 pts, 8 rebs, 2 ast
Joe Johnson (ATL) - 22 pts, 4 rebs, 2 ast, 3 stl

Denver Nuggets (32-19) @ Charlotte Bobcats (10-40) - Feb 13th 2013

Another win against a strong, playoff team, and very comfortably too! Kemba Walker was starting to get some criticism for his play over the previous few weeks, but he's been an absolute beast these last few games. Such an impressive win, we're playing our best Basketball for a long, long time, and long may it continue! Andre Drummond finally got his first double double in the NBA, and had a great game.

Final Score: Nuggets 85-103 Bobcats

POTG: Kemba Walker (CHA) - 21 pts, 8 rebs, 3 ast, 3 stl

Notable Mentions: Andre Drummond (CHA) - 19 pts, 11 rebs, 5 blk
Gerald Henderson (CHA) - 19 pts, 4 rebs, 4 ast, 2 stl
Kenneth Faried (DEN) - 23 pts, 12 rebs, 2 stl, 4 blk

Charlotte Bobcats (11-40) @ Indiana Pacers (17-35) - Feb 15th 2013

Final game before the All-Star weekend, we really wanted to keep our good momentum going and give the kids something to smile about going into the break. Sadly, the Pacers, who have been struggling mightily this season to many people's surprise, had one of their better games against us. It was a really close game most of the way though, but Indiana just had too much for us in the end. Still, we're looking like a different team now to the one that started the season.

Final Score: Bobcats 100-109 Pacers

POTG: David West (IND) - 22 pts, 16 rebs, 3 ast, 2 blk, 2 stl

Notable Mentions: Kemba Walker (CHA) - 23 pts, 5 rebs, 5 ast
Danny Granger (IND) - 21 pts, 8 rebs, 4 ast
Jamal Crawford (IND) - 20 pts, 5 rebs, 2 stl
Michael Kidd-Gilchrist (CHA) - 20 pts, 6 rebs, 7 ast, 3 stl, 2 blk
