With All-Star weekend now done, there was a lot of focus on the Feb 22nd Trade Deadline for every team.

Our front office did discuss looking to try and move Tyrus Thomas and Ben Gordon, mainly because of the bad contracts they both have, and their role, or rather lack of a real role on this current roster. IF we were to try and move either player, we then also had to decide whether we try to stack up on future draft picks, try to find equal or better value for them, or whether to trade them for expiring contracts to free up more cap space for the future.

We quickly ruled out the idea of taking on some more expirers. Lets face it, we're not going to be in the Dwight Howard sweepstakes, nor any other big name free agents.

In the end, no deal was made by us. We did shop Gordon and Thomas around, and had brief discussions with Indiana about David West, and also Portland about an increasingly unhappy LaMarcus Aldridge, but we simply didn't have the assets to make a fair deal, without giving up a bunch of our very valuable looking draft picks. We really pushed for a deal for Aldridge, who was on their trading block, but whatever deal we threw at Portland, they didn't budge. I don't blame them either.

Below are just some of the main trades that took place just before the deadline:

Knicks Trade: Jason Kidd + 2nd Rounder (2013)
Nets Trade: Carlos Delfino

Thoughts: So Jason Kidd gets his wish to play with Deron Williams afterall. Which makes me wonder why he didn't sign for Brooklyn in the first place. New York had too many PGs, and needed a solid backup for Carmelo.

76ers Trade: Evan Turner
Suns Trade: Channing Frye + 2nd Rounder (2013)

Thoughts: Odd trade for the Sixers, who have been playing well this season. They have a real logjam at Power Forward now, and now have a rather thin backcourt. Frye isn't on a great contact either. Suns win this one easily, absolutely puzzling trade for the Sixers.

Magic Trade: Glen Davis + Lester Hudson
Blazers Trade: Raymond Felton + 2nd Rounder (2013)

Thoughts: Doesn't make a whole lot of sense for either team. Blazers are stacked at PF spot now. Orlando have been playing well too, so it's surprising they've done this.

Spurs Trade: Manu Ginobili + Matt Bonner
Bulls Trade: Luol Deng + 2nd Rounder (2013)

Thoughts: Chicago have been struggling thus far this season for whatever reason, and get a great expiring contract in Ginobili, who will definitely help them short-term as well. Spurs are as ever looking to make a championship run, and while they don't really get any better, they get a little younger. Good trade for both I think.

Clippers Trade: Eric Bledsoe + Charlie Villanueva
Nets Trade: Gerald Wallace

Thoughts: Bledsoe was getting lost in the rotation behind CP3 and Billups, and it's no surprise they wanted to offload Charlie V. Gerald is an expirer, and provides short-term help on a strong playoff team looking to make the jump to championship contenders.

Magic Trade: Jameer Nelson
Nuggets Trade: Al Harrington

Thoughts: Magic picking up Raymond Felton made Nelson somewhat expendable. Harrington fills a need for Orlando too. Don't see too much benefit for Denver.

Well, Kemba Walker certainly didn't lose any momentum through the All-Star break! Another monster game from the 2nd year player, who is really coming to the fore and emerging as a star for us, after a so-so start to the year. MKG also had a monstrous game for us, unbelievably good. Just what we wanted after the break!

Greg Monroe, the All-Star once again went off against us, and we rarely had an answer for him individually, but a really balanced scoring effort from our guys saw us take this tight game by 4 points, a good character building win I think. AD bounced back nicely after the last game beatdown from Dwight Howard. Odd game to win though. We shot the ball poorly, were killed on the boards, but Detroit's turnovers were what killed the game for them.

Really great road win for us against a tough Wizards team, who are improving all the time. Defensively we smothered them all game long. Defence is something the Bobcats of a few seasons ago took pride in, and were one of the best teams in the league at that end, which included their first Playoff appearance, so it's nice to see our young guys hopefully adopting that hard-nosed defensive approach which is needed to succeed in this league.

The Kings are becoming the OKC Thunder of a few seasons ago, going from one of the worst teams in the league, to becoming a dead cert for a Playoff spot in a very short time. DeMarcus Cousins is finally realising his potential, and the Kings have let some of last season's other knuckleheads go, and replaced them with good character guys. We gave them a good game, and Andre Drummond had a real breakout game, actually outplaying All-Star Cousins, but in the end we didn't have enough to get it done. Some pleasing things to take from this game though.

Wow, what a win! Our young guys went into MSG and really put in a great effort. We took the game over in the final quarter, which left the Knicks, and their passionate fans shell-shocked. Kemba and Gerald led the way for us all game long. 'Melo fouled out of the game with about 8 minutes to go, a crucial factor in us taking over the game in the 4th.

D-League Update

We decided not to send Quincy Acy down to the D-League in the end, and his role is slowly increasing as part of our team. Cory Higgins is there though, playing for the Albuquerque Thunderbirds.

There are definitely some growing pains for Higgins, who isn't really showing out, which is what we hoped he would be capable of doing. 9 games down, he's averaging 34 minutes a game as a starter, and his stats are 8.2PPG, 4.9RPG, 3.3APG and 1SPG. He's also having a torrid time shooting the ball. Hopefully he can show some more, but right now he doesn't look NBA ready, which is a shame to see.

Charlotte Bobcats (15-46) @ Chicago Bulls (29-32) - Mar 10th 2013

Since the All-Star weekend, the Bulls are on a mini recovery session right now after their horrible start to the season, so we knew we'd be in for a game, especially remembering the beatdown they gave us just 5 days previously. The acquisition of Manu Ginobili has helped the team no end, and he really gave us hell in this one. We did keep it close all game long, but Manu hit some big shots down the stretch.

Unbelievable game! We let the home crowd roar us on to a great start to the game, and at half-time we comfortably led by 18 points. Seemingly over? Definitely not. Somehow, we held them off just enough to take a great 1 point win.

Miami are on course for one of the best regular season records in NBA history, and going into Miami, I told the guys just soak everything up and enjoy the experience. While of course still trying to win! Would you believe it.... we did it! Unbelievable performance from the guys, taking down the best team in the league on their own court. LeBron, Wade and Bosh didn't really get limited minutes either, so this was a real scalp for us. Very proud of the guys!
