New York, New York! Bringing a championship home

Postby zike_42 » Mon Mar 17, 2014 2:30 am

I’m pretty excited for this team of expirings as we still have loads of talent, book ended by Mike Taylor and Shoo. So for us to shoot 54% from the field to take care of Detroit 130-112 in our first game was very comforting. Mike had 25 points and 10 assists but was ably assisted by Shoo’s 12/15 night for 25 points and 9 rebounds and Raul Lopez’s 26 points. Even Wiz had a good game with 17 points, 8 assists and 4 steals. James McDaniel is still toiling away in Detroit with 31 points in a losing effort.

Brooklyn Nets 1-0

Even though Mike had 28 points we didn’t stand a chance against the very good Indiana Pacers as we go down 122-104 as Ish Faye showed why he was MVP with 31 points, 14 rebounds, 4 blocks and 4 steals. Josiah Williams might also be turning a corner with 21 points and 18 rebounds as those two killed us in the paint.

Brooklyn Nets 1-1

Raul Lopez may be 34 years old but he can still fill up the cup and showed it with 30 points in our 114-102 win over the Hornets. Of course Mike was great with 21 points and 9 assists as we seem to be more dependent on our starters than usual years. Vlado Prazina led seven New Orleans players in double figures with 17 points and 8 assists.

Brooklyn Nets 2-1

We ride a 35-21 last quarter to steal a 105-97 win over Chicago in Chicago. Mike took home the player of the game award but the result hinged on Wiz who had his seventh career triple double with 10 points, 12 assists and 10 rebounds. Tom Bryant of all people nearly won it for the Bulls with 31 points and 8 rebounds but couldn’t keep it up as Patrick Blizzard is battling a sprained ankle.

Brooklyn Nets 3-1

Cort Majishun had a game for the ages, so good that he made Mike’s 36 points seem like an afterthought. The Memphis leader had 28 points, 20 assists, 6 rebounds and 5 steals as the Grizz smash us 121-97. Joe Curry chipped in 22 points and 9 rebounds. Antonio Henderson was our only other player in double figures with 15 points and 10 rebounds as Shoo and Wiz combined for 4/17 shooting.

Brooklyn Nets 3-2

To make matters worse, Ron Murphy started complaining about playing time. Really? You’re like the worst player on the squad and you whinge about court burn? I told him to pull his head in or he’ll be out of a job.

We have six players in double figures but we still go down as Frank Slaughter had a great night with 23 points, 10 rebounds and 6 assists with the Cavs taking the game 108-101. I’m not happy with this game so I’m moving on as quickly as possible.

Brooklyn Nets 3-3

It’s good to play the Knicks as they just aren’t good enough yet and we heap more misery on them with a 118-90 win. It’s great to have such a potent scorer that isn’t a headcase with Mike having 23 points and 7 assists in the win. Wiz had another great game as the sidekick with 17 points, 9 assists and 6 rebounds. John Brown led the way for New York with 22 points as the Knicks top draft pick, Aaron White had a shocker going 1/5 from the field.

Brooklyn Nets 4-3

Wow I did not expect this as the Wizards shoot 58% from the field and hit 30 free throws to torch us 142-111. Rowan Taylor and JD Lawson combined to shoot 23/29 for 52 points which just goes to show how hot they were. Tony Myers had a great cameo with 18 points in 11 minutes for us.

Brooklyn Nets 4-4

The Rockets are good this year but we have their number as we ground Houston 112-97 behind a great team effort, with six players with more than 12 points. BB Henderson led Houston with 27 points but young star Cameron Brown was held to only 17 points, seven less than his average.

Brooklyn Nets 5-4

Great, two of my more valuable players in Brad Largent and Antonio Henderson have some words about their respective mothers which was quickly broken up. As most of you know, infighting is not allowed so I tell them to settle down or look for a new home.

It seems to have worked as Henderson and Largent combined for 28 points and 16 rebounds (and no fights) as we brush off the Bobcats 118-105. Shoo finally had a god game with 20 points and 10 rebounds after a very slow start to the season. Charles Means led Charlotte with 20 points and 11 rebounds.

Brooklyn Nets 6-4

We lose again with Ryan Obrien and James McDaniel combining for 62 points as the Pistons take care of us pretty comfortably 121-100. Antonio Henderson had 20 points and 10 rebounds for us in the loss but he had another fight with Brad Largent so it’s time for one or both of them to go. Infighting will not be tolerated if we are to create a winning atmosphere.

Brooklyn Nets 6-5

I hate to burn such a good trade asset for nothing but no-one wants a sixth man who has problems co-operating with his teammates. I finally deal Brad Largent along with Ron Murphy (two birds with one stone) to the Lakers for SF Ben Herrion who has an expiring and will give us some performance off the bench so it’s a win in my books.

I sign two of my old favourites to round out the 15 man squad. Sure, Isaac Holdan and Kevin Dixon won’t get any court time but they are as basketball smart as they come and will be a massive asset to training and coaching.

It seems that our removal of Brad Largent has done well for us as we torch the Magic 127-104. Shoo goes 15/19 for a whopping 38 points while Mike and Wiz combine for 29 points, 22 assists and 14 rebounds as they are getting used to each others games. Shaun Tebbs is coming along nicely and had 27 points for Orlando but Reggie Smith had a shocker, going 3/12 for 19 points and 11 rebounds.

Brooklyn Nets 7-5

Eight Net players were in double figures as we ride a 33-19 last quarter surge to take the game from Cleveland 116-100. Even though Shoo was named player of the game with 16 points and 10 rebounds it was the Wizard who stole the show with 11 points, 13 assists and 10 rebounds for his second triple double in five games. Even Ben Herrion had a cameo with 10 points in 6 minutes. Jamil Fleming led the Cavs with 16 points, 10 rebounds, 7 assists and 5 steals.

Brooklyn Nets 8-5

It’s really good having Wiz on the squad as it gives Mike the chance to do what he does best as we win again, this time in Salt Lake City over the Jazz 122-102. Mike still had 9 assists to go with his 22 points but Wiz finished with 9 points, 14 assists and 7 rebounds. Raul Lopez is putting together a nice little season with 24 points tonight as Robert Jackson and Traves Parker are loving the added minutes with the departure of Brad Largent with 33 points and 17 rebounds combined. Nathaniel Jackson went 4/23 from the field and even though he shot 14/18 from the line and finished with 22 points when Jackson isn’t shooting well the Jazz usually lose.

Brooklyn Nets 9-5

We go for revenge in our first match up against Dallas in Brooklyn. Unfortunately for us, Kresimir Balas is turning their big three (McMillian, Dawkins and McKenzie) into a big four as they had no troubles in beating us 132-111. The Buzzsaw was on target with 36 points and 16 assists as the Big Four combined for 106 points on 62% shooting. So yeah, it’s pretty obvious why we lost. Mike tried his best with 23 points and 11 assists but when a team is that hot and as good as Dallas we aren’t beating them.

Brooklyn Nets 9-6

For some reason the Neon are 11-2 behind a really good all around attack. And a few former Nets. They beat us in Brooklyn 120-109 which is pretty disappointing as Mike Joseph led the game with 27 points and 12 rebounds. Pat Sola (4 points (1/13 FG), 14 rebounds) and Phillip Rude (11 points (5/16 FG) didn’t have good nights tonight but they are both starting and are pivotal pieces of the team. Wiz led us with 21 points, 9 rebounds and 8 assists but Mike went 3/17 from the field, killing our chances.

Brooklyn Nets 9-7

Our second last game of the month was a horrible one. Not only did we get down to the 3-14 Spurs on our home turf we didn’t look like coming back. It was only a bit of Mike Taylor magic and some sprinkling of Antonio Henderson that we got out of the building in front, taking the game 128-125. Mike had 24 points and 8 assists while Antonio Henderson had 23 points and 6 rebounds to pace us. There were two bench performances of note with Traves Parker scoring 18 points in 16 minutes while Donta Punt dished out 9 assists in only 11 minutes which is madness. Kenny Cyrus was the man for San Antonio with 20 points in 29 minutes.

Brooklyn Nets 10-7

The Wizard had some food poisoning so came off the bench this game but it didn’t really matter as Mike exploded for 41 points as we take care of the Magic 105-93. Jones’ replacement, Donta Punt, didn’t do much with 5 points but the game was over by three quarter time. Mike’s opponent in Jarron Campbell had a shocker, going 0/12 from the field while giving up those 41 points. Reggie Smith was their only shining light with 28 points and 16 rebounds and he deserves a better team.

Brooklyn Nets 11-7

Playing a crazy 18 games for a team that only had a handful of returning players is harsh, so finishing November with a record of 11-7 and being fourth in the East is fine with me. Indiana are racing away at 15-1 and are looking like a dynasty in the making. Washington and Philly are behind them but falling away already. New York are struggling at 1-15 and not looking like they’ll get any better.

Nevada have continued their team game at 14-2 and have been rewarded with the best record in the West with Milwaukee right on their tails at 11-2. Houston are third at 13-4 and Dallas are only fourth but have only played eight games. San Antonio and Seattle are battling for the worst record in the conference at 4-16 and 3-11 respectively.

November Player of the Month – Ish Faye, Indiana Pacers – 28.3 points, 1.6 assists, 9.4 rebounds, 2.3 steals and 3.0 blocks per game.

November Rookie of the Month – Zan Tepavac, Oklahoma City Thunder – 19.0 points, 0.9 assists, 4.4 rebounds, 0.8 steals and 0.1 blocks per game.

Apart from our trade of Brad Largent there wasn’t any others in the league.

Even though I’m now with the Nets I’m always going to a Knicks fans after being there for so long (I was employed there for 10 years before I started general managing) so it’s never fun to see New York at it’s lowest, especially when we beat them 106-98 at the Garden. Shoo was dominant with 23 points and 13 rebounds to make up for Mike’s below average game of 11 points and 6 turnovers. The Knicks had Julius Hobbs with 17 points and 14 rebounds but not much else.

Brooklyn Nets 12-7

Another away game, this time against the Bobcats. We got down early primarily caused by Adarrial Faye’s 20 points, 10 rebounds and 6 assists but to our credit we didn’t back down and clambered back to win 116-110. Shoo was again unstoppable but had loads of help from Antonio who combined for 42 points, 23 rebounds and 9 blocks. It seems that removing Brad Largent from the team was a good move.

Brooklyn Nets 13-7

They’ve been the talk of the league since the season started and now it’s our turn to battle the 17-1 Pacers. It was a close game all throughout as neither team got to a double digit lead but we withstood a 25 point, 9 rebound, 6 block outing from Ish Faye to give them their second loss of the season 123-116 to make the league take notice of us. Mike was our star, going 12/16 from the line for 24 points while Shoo continued his great form with 21 points and 7 rebounds in only 23 minutes before fouling out.

Brooklyn Nets 14-7

After such a big game against the Pacers I thought we would relax and slip up against the Sonics but such problems as we take care of them 108-98. Mike is starting to get it together again with 31 points and 8 assists while Shoo continued his fine form with 26 points and 9 rebounds. I know I might harp on it but getting rid of Brad Largent was a great thing for all of our big guys. Robert Williams led Seattle with 24 points and 10 rebounds.

Brooklyn Nets 15-7

Every one of our starters had more than 14 points as we come from a 14 point last quarter deficit to beat the Sixers 115-112. Mike led the way with 22 points on 18 shots while Wiz added 20 points and 8 rebounds. Philly only had two decent players with Chris Canal having 30 points while Jamaal Lewis added 31 points, 11 rebounds, 6 assists, 4 steals and 3 blocks but they couldn’t stop our end game charge.

Brooklyn Nets 16-7

This team really has some great spacing as everyone enough room in their right spots to really get the best out of their game. It helps that we have two great passing guards who play off each other like they’ve been doing it for years. The most recent team to feel our wrath was Boston, as we took them down after a slow start 117-103. Shoo was our best with 23 points, 13 rebounds and 5 blocks while Mike and Wiz combined for 34 points and 16 assists. Jimmy Forrest was the best for the Celtics with 22 points but Chav-chav was held to only 19 points.

Brooklyn Nets 17-7

After an eight game winning streak we finally lost our legs as the Cavs blasted us 135-96 but I’m not even mad. This team has been playing well and we’re allowed to have an off game here and there. There were four Cleveland players with 20 points or more, led by Jamil Fleming with 28 points and 9 assists while Torraye Driggers had 26 points in 22 minutes. Our best was Mike with 20 points but we were tired.

Brooklyn Nets 17-8

It’s been like it ever since I joined the league but I just can’t get past Washington, no matter what team I GM for. This time the Wizards go off for a 46-30 last quarter to steal the 134-127 win. Michael Graham and Rowan Taylor combined for 48 points as they shot 54 free throws to our 33. Mike did his best with 36 points while four of our bench guys were in double figures but we let this game slide.

Brooklyn Nets 17-9

Tony Myers again started to mouth off and I’ve had enough. He had a little scuffle with Donta Punt but they were both apologetic so I let it slide but it’s obvious he doesn’t want to be here. I trade him to Dallas for 38 year old rookie Damone Gailey and their first round pick, giving us five in this coming draft (Brooklyn, Dallas, Portland, Phoenix, and Philadelphia). I didn’t really mean to stock pile so many but it just happened that way.

That’s three losses in a row as Shoo, Wiz and Raul combine to shoot 10/41 as we go down to Chicago 112-108. Patrick Blizzard had 24 ponts but it was their big guys who killed us as Damon Ashburn and Ryan Wadley combined for 36 points and 30 rebounds.

Brooklyn Nets 17-10

Phew, that’s more like it. We notch 50 points in the third term to blow out the Suns 135-99. Mike still isn’t shooting well, going 7/24 but still ended with 19 points, 10 assists and 7 rebounds with Raul leading the way with 23 points. Even Robert Jackson had a blinder with 19 points and 8 rebounds in only 17 minutes. Jason London is still doing his thing, having 35 points but alienating his teammates and I’m so glad we are shot of him. I’m still hurting that I traded Cliff Havens for him as Havens looks the goods.

Brooklyn Nets 18-10

Well that was disappointing. We go to the desert two days later and get stomped as London still shot well for 34 points as we go down 111-98. Earl Harris helped him out with 22 points, 13 assists, 6 rebounds and 6 steals as we shot 42% from the field in a terrible display after our hot game last time. Antonio was our best with 16 points and 12 rebounds and our eight game winning streak is long gone.

Brooklyn Nets 18-11

I did not expect this type of game when we played the Raptors. Mike went 7/30 from the field while Wiz went 7/20 and the other starters weren’t any better. Eddie Harris and Brandon Oliver for Toronto combined for 9/36 shooting as neither team shot above 35% from the field. They had 60 rebounds, we had 59 as we ground out a 84-74 win that no-one will ever watch again because it was so ugly. Mike was the game top scorer with 19 points but when he took 30 shots I expect at least double figures. Eddie Harris was horrible for the Raptors with 9 points (4/20 FG), 9 rebounds and 10 turnovers. Moving on…

Brooklyn Nets 19-11

Another tough watching game awaited us against Minnesota but to our credit we won that again, holding the Wolves to 37% shooting to win 98-82. Mike shot better for 25 points but was undone by 7 turnovers as Wiz and Antonio doubled up. Enrique Mendez had 24 points but was also undone by his 8 turnovers.

Brooklyn Nets 19-11

There were a few anxious people out there when Toronto came to town but those fears were unfounded as we blast them 122-103 with Mike coming close to a triple double with 25 points, 13 assists and 9 rebounds. I’m kicking myself for not signing Antonio Henderson to a multi-year deal as he has been great and tonight had 13 points, 13 rebounds and 4 blocks. The bad news was that Shoo sprained his wrist and will be injured for about two weeks. Andrew Graham was the best for the Raps with 18 points and 7 rebounds off the bench.

Brooklyn Nets 20-11

Our last game of 2033 was an away battle against the very disappointing 16-18 Heat. That didn’t stop them from giving us a scare as Kenneth Long was back to his best with 22 points and 12 assists but we held on to win 117-113. Mike took out the player of the game award with 22 points and 9 assists but it was a whole team effort with six players in double figures. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Kenneth Long leave Miami after nine years because they are just getting too old to be contenders unless they do something about it. Losing Adarrial Faye was massive for them.

Brooklyn Nets 21-11

What a up and down month that was with an eight game winning streak, then going 1-4 and now on a four game winning streak it’s doing my head in. We’re third in the East behind the streaking Pacers (26-4) and our bogey team Washington (22-10). New York has bottomed out and they just need to start again at 3-25 and might be in the running for the worst record ever.

Milwaukee and Dallas are leading the West at 19-5 and it’s strange to see the Mavericks not way out ahead. Houston are far behind at 22-10 in third. San Antonio, Seattle and Oklahoma City are fighting it out for last in the conference with seven wins apiece.

Brooklyn Top Points
Michael Taylor – 22.5
Raul Lopez – 15.7
Schuyler Vanderwerken – 14.3

Brooklyn Top Assists

First Round of NBA Draft Prospects
1. SG Pete Edgerson (Oregon State), Freshman, 6’4”, 214lbs
2. SF Marshod Anderson (Stanford), Sophomore, 6’5”, 200lbs
3. PF Abel Williams (High Point), Freshman, 6’8”, 223lbs
4. PF Matt Hackett (Kentucky), Freshman, 6’9”, 242lbs
5. PG Axel Rancik (Alabama), Freshman, 6’4”, 156lbs

Thoughts – Edgerson is an absolute bull driving to the basket as many defenders just can’t handle his strength. So far this draft looks good but the odd man out would be Williams who is extremely raw and has a lot of growing to do.

December Player of the Month – Mike Bickerstaf, Oklahoma City Thunder – 35.2 points, 3.8 rebounds, 6.8 assists, 0.7 steals and 0.0 blocks per game.

December Rookie of the Month – Apolinary Dembowski, Golden State Warriors – 15.7 points, 8.3 rebounds, 1.2 assists, 0.7 steals and 0.0 blocks per game.

There was only one other trade for the month and it was extremely one sided.

Charlotte trade:
SF Padorin Ivelitsch

Philadelphia trade:
SG Lamoni Daniels
2034 2nd round pick

Winner – Philadelphia. I don’t understand this from a Charlotte perspective. Sure Padorin is young but he is oozing with potential and could get there as close as next year. Daniels is a very average player who isn’t even an expiring. Stupid, stupid deal from the Cats.

I’m really contemplating making a massive trade but not sure if it will work out. I’ve been looking over next season’s free agency crop and it’s simply, honestly one of the best I’ve ever seen in all my life. Here is a small sample –

Ish Faye (IND)
Cort Majishun (MEM)
Jack Dawkins (DAL)
Kenneth Long (MIA)
Mike Bickerstaf (OKC)
Reggie Smith (ORL)
Terry McKenzie (DAL)
Jami Fleming (CLE)
Josiah Williams (IND)
Chris Canal (PHI)

They are all solid four star players and the top seven of these guys are arguably five star, superstar players in the league. Have you ever seen a crop that had this much talent? This doesn’t take into account all of the other very good players that were probably three and a half star players who can contribute loads to a team. That’s it, I go shopping.

What I’m looking for is a young guy that hopefully is on his rookie contract but the team also needs

to have some expiring contracts for this off season. I nearly deal for Michael Harmon but I don’t want to help the Pacers any more than I have to. So I talk to Dwyane Wade, the General Manager of Milwaukee. I tell him that I have a superstar that he can have for some expirings and his young stud. After pitching it like that, he was all over it.

Brooklyn trade:
PG Michael Taylor
2034 1st round pick (DAL)
2034 1st round pick (POR)

Milwaukee trade:
PG Lou Beck
PG Darren Banks
PG Alfred Rice

Winner – Milwaukee. Everyone knows what the Nets are trying to do but trading a guy who averages 23 points a game on his career was not the way to go. The Bucks just got a gimme and for a team that is already 19-5 they should be in everyone’s radar as the team to beat with Indiana.

I don’t care. I cut Banks and Rice and I’m in love with Beck and his talents. He’s an amazing passer and could average over 14 assists for a season in the near future and to make things better he’s on a two year deal for a total of $4.7 million so I should be able to afford two superstars this off season.

We get eased into our new team with a smashing of New York 111-88 as Wiz continued on his fine form with 17 points, 13 assists and 11 rebounds for his third triple double of the season Raul led us with 33 points as our new recruit Lou had 17 points and 12 assists. All in all, a good first game. Julius Hobbs led the Knicks with 20 points and 12 rebounds but they shot 34% from the field.

Brooklyn Nets 23-11

Oh my God what have I done? I’ve traded away Michael freaking Taylor, a five time All Star and four time All NBA player! Lou Beck is good but I’ve put a hell of a lot of faith in my recruiting skills. What if I fail? I’ll be fired for sure. This better be worth it.

Our 98-78 washing of the Raptors has made me feel a little better but honestly, they suck. What did make me happy was Lou and Wiz combining for 33 points, 16 rebounds and 15 assists as Raul led us with 21 points. The only decent player for Toronto was Mark Ransom with 14 points in 13 minutes as their starters went 12/56 from the field. Yikes.

Brooklyn Nets 24-11

Michael Taylor’s first game as a Buck couldn’t have gone any better as Milwaukee shot 60% from the field to destroy the Wizards 143-127. Mike was pretty good, going 14/21 for 37 points and 8 assists. I’m sure he’ll do just fine in the West.

Another game against a lowly opponent and another great combined stat line from Lou and Wiz, this time a 124-106 win over Detroit and 48 points, 29 assists and 13 rebounds. Wow, talk about moving the ball. Robert Jackson was the main beneficiary of their generosity with 27 points and 9 rebounds on 12/16 shooting in only 29 minutes. Joe Moore was the Pistons’ best with 20 points and 15 rebounds but it was our play that won the game, not their’s.

Brooklyn Nets 25-11

Right, well that didn’t go as planned. Chris Horvath shot badly for 31 points but it was the now bench Magnus Carlsson who did the damage with 24 points (7/8 FG) in 19 minutes as we went down to Golden State 121-115. I guess age has finally caught up to the 36 year old in his fourth season. Our dynamic duo was only firing on one cylinder as Wiz fouled out in only 22 minutes, negating a 22 point, 9 rebound outing from Antonio Henderson.

Brooklyn Nets 25-12

We won the game 131-111 over the Bulls with Wiz nearly having a triple double with 18 points, 12 assists and 9 rebounds but he also sprained his ankle and will be out for over a week which sucks. We had seven players in double figures and all of our guys scored at least once which is cool. Damon Ashburn was the best for the Bulls with 31 points and 14 rebounds.

Brooklyn Nets 26-12

Wiz actually starts the game but I really wish he didn’t as we played 33 minutes to lay a goose egg as we go down to Charlotte in overtime 116-112. Joe West was fantastic with 33 points and 15 rebounds as we shot 41% from the field, way down from our average. Shoo was our best with 32 points and 17 rebounds but this just wasn’t our night.

Brooklyn Nets 26-13

We seem to play well at home but away, not so much. Luckily we played Philly at home and crushed them 120-102. Lou Beck is becoming better than I’d imagined with 27 points and 16 assists as Shoo and Antonio doubled up as well. Donta Punt started this game at SG and had 11 points and I’m just realizing that we don’t have a quality bench SG, only PGs and SFs who can pitch in here and there.

Brooklyn Nets 27-13

Oh dear, it’s the match up I’ve dreaded. Milwaukee has come to town. And boy did they give it to us as Michael Taylor had 19 points, 10 assists and 6 rebounds as the Bucks amassed a 26 point lead. A little comeback by us at the end was futile as they ran us out of our own building 109-99. They are going to be hard to beat this season. Shoo was our best with 24 points and 11 rebounds but needed 25 shots while Lou was decent with 15 points and 10 assists and Wiz horrendous, laying another goose egg.

Brooklyn Nets 27-14

Finally we get past our bogey team, and on their home court no less as we rout the Wizards 125-111 behind great ply from Antonio (20 points, 12 rebounds), Lou (23 points, 16 assists) and Donta Punt (12 points, 9 assists and still starting). We shot 53% from the field compared to their 41% and it was a fantastic feeling to finally nail this damn team.

Brooklyn Nets 28-14

I don’t know why Wiz just doesn’t sit out a few games because he was awful in our game against Boston. Playing 12 minutes he laid his third goose egg in not long but we still won 126-86. Lou was amazing with 27 points and 16 assists while Antonio had 24 points, 14 rebounds and 4 blocks to lead the way. Chav-chav was Boston’s best with 16 points but this game was over after half time.

Brooklyn Nets 29-14

And so begins one of our worst Hell Week’s in history – nine games in ten days with seven away games. Oh, my, God. It’s starts out easy enough with a 107-86 win over Cleveland as Shoo finally has a good game with 27 points, 11 rebounds and 6 blocks as Wiz is also finally back to healthy with 24 points, 9 assists and 6 rebounds in the win. Frank Slaughter went 8/22 for 18 points and he was one of the better shooting Cavs out there.

Brooklyn Nets 30-14

In a night of good and bad, Lou Beck notched up a massive triple double with 21 points, 11 assists and 10 rebounds while Robert Jackson was great with 23 points off the bench as we continue our fine form with a 127-115 win over Denver. The bad news is that Raul Lopez hurt his hamstring and will be out for around a week and a half. Damn. Jason Harriman (remember him?) had 20 points for the Nuggets and he’s doing pretty well for himself in the mile high city so I’m not that upset over trading him.

Brooklyn Nets 31-14

Well here’s the tough part, seven away games in seven nights, starting in San Antonio. Robert Jackson started for Raul Lopez and had 25 points but we let the Spurs score 43 points in the final term as they stole a 136-129 win. The Spurs had six players with 16 points which was just too much balance for us.

Brooklyn Nets 31-15

We lose again against another underachieving team in the Lakers by the score of 120-116. To make matters worse, Shoo had 23 points in 27 minutes because of foul trouble and then bitched about it to the media that he didn’t get enough minutes! What, I don’t even know what to do about that. Brad Largent didn’t like us cutting him from the team and had 29 points and 9 rebounds as he’s starting for LA.

Brooklyn Nets 31-16

Oh dear it’s a full on losing streak. The Blazers outscored us 41-26 to snatch a 105-102 win from within our fingers as another one of my trades came back to bite me as Mark Lyday top scored with 28 points and 9 rebounds. To make things worse, we lost with the Blazers missing Tiburcio Tommasini and Tobe Slaughter. Sucks. Shoo pulled his head in from the last game with 18 points and 15 rebounds.

Brooklyn Nets 31-17

It’s OK everyone, you can breathe again as we take care of the Hornets 128-117 to snap our streak as Lou led the way with 18 points, 14 assists and 7 rebounds. Wiz chipped in 23 points while Robert Jackson is enjoying starting with 17 points and 13 rebounds. Jerry Benton had 24 points for NO but they’re on the way out at the moment as an ancient Mark Lewis is taking up a massive chunk of their salary.

Brooklyn Nets 32-17

Next up is a trip to Philadelphia and even though we fought bravely, this Hell Week is killing us. Justin Robinson went 13/17 from the field for 38 points and 9 rebounds while our old friend Chris Canal had 30 points and 13 assists as the Sixers take care of us late, scoring 16 of the last 20 points to beat us 140-128. Antonio was our best with 28 points while Ben Herrion did his best to keep us in the game with 15 points in only 6 minutes.

Brooklyn Nets 32-18

Oh dear, after the battering we have taken on this Hell Week we still have to travel to Indiana to play the Pacers. Of course Ish Faye got his, putting up 37 points and 12 rebounds but he didn’t really get much help. Antonio Henderson fought back against the MVP with 24 points and 11 rebounds but tragedy struck as Shoo broke his wrist five minutes into the game and will be out for two months. Damn. The game lost a little steam after that but we just couldn’t get them back, going down 110-104 after a spirited fightback in the third term.

Brooklyn Nets 32-19

Antonio slides over to the centre position while Robert Jackson moves to PF and the now healthy Raul Lopez goes back to SF. I recall Marlin Bain from the D-League because we don’t have any centre depth now Robert Jackson is starting.

Good news, it’s the last game of the month and the most hellish of Hell Weeks. Bad news is that we travel to Milwaukee against Michael Taylor and the Bucks. To the game, Mike Taylor had 24 points and 12 assists to pound Lou, who only had 5 points and 11 assists. The Bucks also had six other players in double figures as they got out to a half dozen lead early. After that we took over as Wiz led the way with 20 points and 9 assists and Marlin Bain had a blinder as we overcame another injury to our starting centre (Antonio Henderson out with a strained hamstring) to win 123-121. Bain was everywhere, going 9/14 for 20 points and 9 rebounds but needs to work on his free throw shooting as he went 2/14 from the line. That’s right, two from fourteen. Ouch.

Brooklyn Nets 33-19

With that outburst, Marlin is now our starting centre as Shoo and Antonio are in no shape to play. In all the confusion of the centre woes, Robert Jackson is also injured with a sore wrist and will be out for at least the first game of February. Traves Parker has been chosen to start at PF. What is going on?

So after traveling 8,800 miles in seven nights and playing seven games in those seven nights the team is exhausted. I don’t blame them for going 2-5 in that stretch after the first half of the month was decent, especially as we played a whopping 20 games that month. After all of that we are still in third place behind the fantastic Pacers at 35-9 and the very close Bulls who sport a 33-18 record. In fact, there are six teams with either 18 or 19 losses so it’s going to be close. New York are woeful at 7-34 and will probably be that bad for a long time to come.

Of course Dallas are leading the West at 33-10 with Houston and Milwaukee right behind them at 29-15 and 26-14 respectively. San Antonio, the team we lost to at the start of the away trip, are last at 11-34.

Brooklyn Top Points
Lou Beck – 21.2
Marlin Bain – 20.0 (one game)
Raul Lopez – 15.9
Schuyler Vanderwerken – 15.4

Brooklyn Top Assists
Lou Beck – 10.8
Chris Jones – 7.2
Donta Punt – 4.2

Brooklyn Top Rebounds
Antonio Henderson – 9.1
Marlin Bain – 9.0
Schulyer Vanderwerken – 8.3
Raul Lopez – 6.0

League Leaders
Points – Mike Bickerstaf (OKC) – 33.1
Assists – Kevin Epps (SDR) – 12.2
Rebounds – Julius Hobbs (NYK) – 11.0
Blocks – Ish Faye (IND) – 3.3
Steals – Kenroy McPherson (DEN) – 2.4
Efficiency – Ish Faye (IND) – 31.5

Rookie Leaders
Points – Zan Tepavac (OKC) – 17.4
Assists – Rob Hearns (SEA) – 2.1
Rebounds – Apolinary Dembowski (GSW) – 7.9
Blocks – Jim Meeking (LAL) – 1.8
Steals – Jim Meeking (LAL) – 0.9
Efficiency – Apolinary Dembowski (GSW) – 14.7

Second Round of NBA Draft Prospects
1. SG Pete Edgerson (Oregon State), Freshman, 6’4”, 214lbs
2. PF Abel Williams (High Point), Freshman, 6’8”, 223lbs
3. PF Ipolitas Margolis (Latvia), 19 years old, 6’9”, 232lbs
4. PG Axel Rancik (Alabama), Freshman, 6’4”, 156lbs
5. PF Tarrell McMahon (Auburn), Junior, 6’10”, 224lbs

Thoughts – It seems that Edgerson is going to be the number one pick at this stage but it’s strange to see Williams so high for how raw he is. The young Latvian has come out of nowhere and looks to be a great passer to go with his great rebounding and scoring.

January Player of the Month – Ish Faye, Indiana Pacers – 28.4 points, 10.4 rebounds, 1.2 assists, 1.9 steals and 4.0 blocks per game.

January Rookie of the Month – Zan Tepavac, Oklahoma City Thunder – 19.9 points, 5.5 rebounds, 1.7 assists, 0.2 steals and 0.2 blocks per game.

Still no decent trades last month, with the only one being New York trading their second round pick for someone so not really important. We have three days off before our next game which is a godsend because this team is so, so tired.

I don’t know how the Thunder have only 15 wins to their name with the likes of Mike Bickerstaf, Zan Tepavac, Victor Brinker and Jason Collins but unfortunately for us they decided to play like they should. We had a 14 point lead evaporate as they outscored us 39-29 in the final term to steal a 125-122 victory. Mike Bickerstaf was everywhere with 42 points, 8 assists and 7 rebounds as his new partner in crime, Zan Tepavac, had 21 points. Raul Lopez is back and had 29 points and 9 rebounds on 33 shots while Marlin Bain continued on from last game with 11 points and 10 rebounds but he did go 1/6 from the foul line.

Brooklyn Nets 33-20

I cannot believe this. Yes we won 116-94 to regain some dignity against OKC but we must have pissed off someone as Marlin Bain had 27 points and 9 rebounds and tore his knee tendon and will be out for nearly a whole calendar year. So all of our proper centres are injured. Luckily Antonio Henderson is almost healthy but Marlin and Shoo are out for a long time. Geez, we can’t catch a break. Mike Bickerstaf went 6/21 from the field to lead the Thunder with 19 points.

Brooklyn Nets 34-20

I recall Juia Henchoz from the D-League to give us another body off the bench because we’re dropping like flies.

He did pretty well in his first NBA game with 11 points and 4 rebounds as we take care of the Magic 111-101 at home. Raul Lopez is still shooting badly, going 9/27 for 23 points and 8 rebounds while Wiz was close to a triple double with 15 points, 8 rebounds and 8 assists. Shaun Tebbs is doing really well in Orlando and had 28 points and should be an All Star soon. Orlando’s real All Star, Reggie Smith, shot badly but still had 15 points and 15 rebounds but I’m going to guess that he will demand a trade very soon because he is a little brat.

Brooklyn Nets 35-20

The Timberwolves are another underachieving team that beat us, this time behind Enrique Mendez’s 37 points to the score of 126-110. Juia Henchoz was again great with 19 points in 19 minutes but we shot 41% from the field as our starting backcourt went 12/33.

Brooklyn Nets 35-21

That’s it, I give up. In our 128-114 win over Detroit with Lou Beck leading the way with 31 points, 13 assists and 5 rebounds, freaking Robert Jackson breaks his wrist and I’m pulling my hair out. Oh yeah, Raul Lopez had 29 points and 9 rebounds but what THE HELL!

Brooklyn Nets 36-21

Ok here is the infirmary occupants –

Chris Jones, sore shoulder – less than 100% but still good to go but will come off the bench
Ben Herrion, sprained wrist – limited minutes
Robert Jackson, broken wrist – out for at least a month and a half
Schuyler Vanderwerken, broken wrist – out for over a month
Marlin Bain, torn knee tendon – out for a calendar year

The only silver lining is that through all the big man injuries Juia Henchoz has been thrust into the starting line-up at PF. Trial by fire I guess.

We tried our best but we were overpowered by the Kings 105-96. Juia struggled against the better Shannon Barker with 13 points and 9 rebounds while Barker had 18 points and 11 rebounds, who played well in tandem with Diego Acosta who had 21 points and 16 rebounds. Raul Lopez was our best with 26 points and 11 rebounds. Lastly, Wiz went 1/13 off the bench and he’s really hurting.

Brooklyn Nets 36-22

It’s the All Star weekend so we’ll get some much needed rest and recovery.

As usual we don’t have any contestants in the skills challenges as OKC’s Aaron Thorne led from start to finish in the Slam Dunk Contest, beating out Phoenix’s Darnell Kimbrough 62-56 in the final. Interesting tidbit, those two scores were the lowest of the whole competition. In the Long Distance Shootout, Ledaryl McMillian from Dallas also led from start to finish, beating other stars of the NBA in Magnus Carlsson and James McDaniel with a total of 18 points in the final.

It’s a bit sketchy that after only four games Juia Henchoz gets to play in the Rookies/Sophomores game and even worse to let him start but he didn’t let us down, scoring 24 points and 10 rebounds. Too bad the Rookies got flogged as Joe West hit eight threes to take home the MVP award as the second year guys took this without breaking a sweat 149-114. Chris Waters was also good for the victors with 23 points and 14 rebounds and JT Kresse scoring 16 points in 22 minutes. Jim Meeking and Apolinary Dembowski helped out Juia with 20 and 23 points respectively but the Rookies turned it over 18 times to six.

The All Star game was closer but not a close game as the East won every quarter to take the game 149-139. Cort Majishun claimed his third All Star MVP award with 26 points and 8 assists while Patrick Blizzard top scored with 27 points. We had one participant, Lou Beck, and he didn’t disappoint with 12 points in 12 minutes off the bench. It was great to see Art Stevenson get a nod as now all of the fabled Rookie Six players have made it to an All Star game. Ledaryl McMillian did nearly all for the West, going 12/15 for 28 points but the East shot 22/45 from three which is just ridiculous.

Eastern Conference All Star Starters
Cort Majishun, Memphis Grizzlies (fourth selection)
Varlam Chavchavadze, Boston Celtics (eighth selection)
Patrick Blizzard, Chicago Bulls (second selection)
Michael McQuay, Atlanta Hawks (fourth selection)
Rowan Taylor, Washington Wizards (seventh selection)

Eastern Conference All Star Reserves
Jamil Fleming, Cleveland Cavaliers (fifth selection)
Reggie Smith, Orlando Magic (second selection)
John Brown, New York Knicks (first selection)
Chris Canal, Philadelphia 76ers (first selection)
Art Stevenson, Cleveland Cavaliers (first selection)
Lou Beck, Brooklyn Nets (first selection)
Frank Slaughter, Cleveland Cavaliers (first selection)

Western Conference All Star Starters
Ledaryl McMillian, Dallas Mavericks (ninth selection)
Mike Bickerstaf, Oklahoma City Thunder (sixth selection)
Lars Ray, Los Angeles Lakers (fourth selection)
Nathaniel Jackson, Utah Jazz (third selection)
Diego Acosta, Sacramento Kings (second selection)

Western Conference All Star Reserves
Kevin Epps, San Diego Riders (first selection)
Jack Dawkins, Dallas Mavericks (sixth selection)
Michael Taylor, Milwaukee Bucks (sixth selection)
Jaymes Kincaid, Sacramento Kings (fifth selection)
Chris Horvath, Golden State Warriors (first selection)
Terry McKenzie, Dallas Mavericks (fifth selection)
Jason Harriman, Denver Nuggets (first selection)

Our first game back from the break was a good one as we beat a very good San Diego team 111-103. Lou was fantastic with 30 points and 13 assists while Wiz chipped in 18 points and 8 rebounds. Juia had a horror first start, going 1/8 from the field and fouling out in 20 minutes. Ouch. The one that got away, Cliff Havens, torched us with 29 points and 10 rebounds and I’m regretting that trade every day.

Brooklyn Nets 37-22

We go to Dallas and I’m really not expecting anything and that’s what we get, defeat. The Mavericks outscore us in every quarter to win 115-91. Ledaryl had a great game with 23 points and 7 assists as Terry McKenzie went 10/12 for 24 points and 12 rebounds. Raul Lopez was our top scorer with 19 points but needed 21 shots to get them.

Brooklyn Nets 37-23

Justin Robinson had 30 points and 12 rebounds and Chris Canal added 15 assists but we still somehow got the win as we take the game in Philly 117-114. Lou was amazing as usual with 32 points, 10 rebounds and 4 steals as Juia had his best pro game with 11 points, 11 rebounds and 7 assists. Even Traves Parker had a blinder with 18 points in 22 minutes.

Brooklyn Nets 38-23

I still can’t believe that with all of these injuries we are still in third place but we need to keep on our toes as there isn’t much breathing room from second to seventh in the East. Indiana are on top of course at 43-16 but there are six teams with between 21 and 25 losses so it’s anyone’s conference from second down. Toronto have fallen in a heap and have crashed to the bottom of the conference at 11-47.

It’s Dallas and Milwaukee at the top again with Dallas at 42-16 holding a slim lead over the Bucks who hold a 37-17 record. San Antonio are looking for next season at 15-43.

Brooklyn Top Points
Lou Beck – 21.2
Raul Lopez – 17.0
Schuyler Vanderwerken – 15.4

Brooklyn Top Assists
Lou Beck – 10.6
Chris Jones – 7.2
Donta Punt – 4.1

Brooklyn Top Rebounds
Antonio Henderson – 8.8
Schuyler Vanderwerken – 8.3
Juia Henchoz – 6.6

League Leaders
Points – Mike Bickerstaf (OKC) – 33.3
Assists – Kevin Epps (SDR) – 12.5
Rebounds – Julius Hobbs (NYK) – 10.8
Blocks – Ish Faye (IND) – 3.2
Steals – John Brown (NYK) – 2.5
Efficiency – Ish Faye (IND) – 30.9

Rookie Leaders
Points – Michael Harmon (IND) – 17.9
Assists – Michael Harmon (IND) – 5.5
Rebounds – Apolinary Dembowski (GSW) – 8.5
Blocks – Jim Meeking (LAL) – 1.8
Steals – Michael Harmon (IND) – 1.3
Efficiency – Michael Harmon (IND) – 19.0

Third Round of NBA Draft Prospects
1. SG Pete Edgerson (Oregon State), Freshman, 6’4”, 214lbs
2. SF Alan Patton (Purdue), Freshman, 6’5” 224lbs
3. PF Abel Williams (High Point), Freshman, 6’8”, 223lbs
4. PF Ipolitas Margolis (Latvia), 19 years old, 6’9”, 232lbs
5. PF Matt Hackett (Kentucky), Freshman, 6’9”, 242lbs

Thoughts – It’s the draft of the young guys as if the draft was done today only two Juniors and one Senior would make the lottery and that’s at #7, #8 and #14 so if you’re in this draft then you’ll need patience. Patton’s come out of nowhere but is playing like a pro while Edgerson, Williams and maybe Margolis have solidified their spot in the top five.

I haven’t done a Rookie Six update for a while so I thought I’d do one before I forgot.

Rookie Six Update – Mid year, season nine

Cort Majishun, Memphis Grizzlies
Season – 24.6 points, 9.4 assists, 4.8 rebounds, 1.3 steals, 0.4 blocks
Career – 19.7 points, 9.3 assists, 3.8 rebounds, 1.1 steals, 0.3 blocks

At 28 years old he’s now in the prime of his life and isn’t he enjoying it. He’s probably the premier point guard in the league and it’s slowly bringing Memphis back to relevance. He’s a free agent this off season but he doesn’t look like going anywhere.

2025 - Rookie Game Starter
2025 - NBA All-Rookie 1st Team
2026 - Sophomore Game Starter
2029 - All-Star Game Reserve
2029 - All-Star Game MVP
2030 - All-Star Game Starter
2030 - All-Star Game MVP
2030 - NBA All-League 2nd Team
2031 - All-Star Game Starter
2031 - NBA All-League 3rd Team
2032 - NBA All-League 2nd Team
2033 - All-Star Game Starter
2033 - All-Star Game MVP

Jack Dawkins, Dallas Mavericks
Season – 21.5 points, 7.1 assists, 6.1 rebounds, 0.5 steals, 0.4 blocks
Career – 22.2 points, 5.8 assists, 6.1 rebounds, 0.7 steals, 0.3 blocks

Captain Jack is having the time of his life in Dallas and he’s getting all of his teammates involved. His assist numbers are the best of his career and he’s already had 10 double digit assist games so far. His four titles in The Big D shows that he loves it there and it would take a miracle for him to move to another team when he becomes a free agent this coming off season.

2026 - Sophomore Game Starter
2026 - All-Star Game Reserve
2027 - All-Star Game Reserve
2027 - NBA All-League 2nd Team
2028 - All-Star Game Starter
2028 - NBA All-League 2nd Team
2030 - All-Star Game Reserve
2030 - NBA All-League 3rd Team
2032 - All-Star Game Reserve
2032 - NBA All-League 1st Team
2033 - All-Star Game Reserve

Terry McKenzie, Dallas Mavericks
Season – 17.9 points, 1.1 assists, 9.4 rebounds, 0.8 steals, 0.9 blocks
Career – 18.6 points, 1.2 assists, 8.9 rebounds, 1.1 steals, 1.0 block

The eldest of the Rookie Six, McKenzie is already at age 30 and in a couple of years will be on his downward slide. Until then he’s going great guns with another All Star appearance this season. Another of the Rookie Six going into free agency, he doesn’t look to be moving far from Dallas in a hurry.

2030 - NBA All-League 2nd Team
2031 - All-Star Game Reserve
2031 - NBA All-League 1st Team
2032 - All-Star Game Starter
2032 - NBA All-League 2nd Team
2033 - All-Star Game Reserve

Kenneth Long, Miami Heat
Season – 19.0 points, 6.2 assists, 4.4 rebounds, 1.2 steals, 1.2 blocks
Career – 17.5 points, 6.1 assists, 4.6 rebounds, 1.3 steals, 1.0 block

It’s been said before and it’ll be said in the future but Miami just can’t get the best out of Long. His scoring has increased but the team is struggling and it might be (another) time to change. Going into free agency, he will get plenty of looks at opposing teams to try and pilfer him away.

2027 - All-Star Game Reserve
2027 - All-Star Game MVP

2028 - NBA All-League 2nd Team

2031 - All-Star Game Starter
2032 - All-Star Game Reserve
2032 - NBA All-League 3rd Team
2032 - NBA All-Defense 2nd Team

Art Stevenson, Cleveland Cavaliers
Season – 18.2 points, 0.9 assists, 8.1 rebounds, 0.5 steals, 1.8 blocks
Career – 13.6 points, 0.9 assists, 6.5 rebounds, 0.5 steals, 1.5 blocks

Those numbers this season are off the charts for Stevenson as he is finally getting everything to fall into place. It’s said that centres take the longest and it seems that way now. He was rewarded with his first ever All Star appearance which hopefully will be a sign of things to come.

2025 - NBA All-Rookie 2nd Team
2033 - All-Star Game Reserve

Chris Jones, Brooklyn Nets
Season – 11.8 points, 7.2 assists, 4.9 rebounds, 1.4 steals, 0.0 blocks
Career – 14.2 points, 7.3 assists, 4.7 rebounds, 1.5 steals, 0.0 blocks

Playing with some talented players in Brooklyn, Jones has been pushed to one side it seems and will need to move on to another team to showcase his talents. It seems that the more Art Stevenson improves, the more Jones devalues.

In total, some darned good stats for these six!

If Cort Majishun stays with Memphis, he better get well-rewarded for his loyalty or they better make an effort to bring in some more help to make them contenders.

February Player of the Month – Mike Bickerstaf, Oklahoma City Thunder – 33.8 points, 4.3 rebounds, 5.9 assists, 1.1 steals and 0.0 blocks per game.

February Rookie of the Month – Michael Harmon, Indiana Pacers – 19.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, 6.0 assists, 1.5 steals and 0.4 blocks per game.

It was really a snore-fest of a trade deadline with only a one of decent deals being made and no ‘wow’ trades that stop traffic.

Cleveland trade:
PF Alan Millford

Cleveland receive:
SG Tip Smith

Charlotte trade:
SG PF Charles Means
2034 2nd round pick

Charlotte receive:
PF Alan Millford

Indiana trade:
SG Tip Smith

Indiana receive:
PF Charles Means
2034 2nd round pick

Winner – Charlotte, then Indiana and then Cleveland. Alan Millford is the best talent in the deal so trading away and aging Means for a quality player in Millford is a great deal. Indiana are hoping to spend a load of money this off season as Ish Faye and Josiah Williams are both free agents and as Means has a team option they can get $9.5 million off the books to go towards those two guys. Cleveland are going to waste Tip Smith and even though he is a quality player he is going to be buried behind Oskar Carlsson.

Our first game of March was a pretty disappointing one as Atlanta beat us 129-115 and even that was a flattering score. The three M’s, Michael McQuay, Marquis Bowen and Marcus Randle (now at SF) each had at least 20 points as we couldn’t stop them from shooting 54% from the field. Raul was our best with 24 points as our starting back court had 31 points and 20 assists.

Brooklyn Nets 38-24

OK that wasn’t supposed to happen. Atlanta makes a trip to Brooklyn a couple of nights later and beats us again, this time it was all Michael McQuay with 37 points as they stomp us 115-105. Juia Henchoz struggled against him, fouling out in 20 minutes with Lou being our best with 24 points and 16 assists. We need to beat these types of teams as they are at a similar level on the conference ladder as now Atlanta have jumped above us, pushing us down to fifth.

Brooklyn Nets 38-25

It’s a sigh of relief as we take care of the Warriors as Wiz has a surprisingly rare good shooting night with 31 points and 11 assists as the game was over at three quarter time, with us winning 123-112. Traves Parker made up for a poor night from Juia again with 20 points and 9 rebounds while even though Magnus Carlsson isn’t starting he is still a potent weapon with 33 points in 32 minutes.

Brooklyn Nets 39-25

With a 123-116 loss to Miami we have dropped to seventh in the standings as there are now seven teams with a record of .600 or better which is insane. Tim Greenberg had 34 points for the victors while Kenneth Long was back to his best with 27 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists. Juia has a blinder with 24 points and 9 rebounds but the Heat shot 10% from the field better and shot 23 more free throws than us.

Brooklyn Nets 39-26

I don’t know where this game came from but when we shoot 58% from the field and torch the Celtics 138-123 I’ll take it. Lou was amazing with 28 points, 11 assists and 5 rebounds while Juia (23 points, 7 rebounds) and Wiz (24 points, 10 assists, 4 steals) were also electric. Hilton Walker was the best for the C’s with 34 points and 11 rebounds as we simply out shot our opponents.

Brooklyn Nets 40-26

Great, Juia got a knock on the head and has been diagnosed with a mild concussion which means he’s legally unable to play for two days because of the concussion rule. Traves Parker will take his place at PF.

And I’m not even upset as Traves goes ballistic with 39 points and 14 rebounds as we trounce the Knicks 121-102. All five of our starters had 13 points or more with another two bench guys in double digits, all helping the star of the hour Traves Parker. Dave Coulter was the standout for New York with 18 points but Julius Hobbs and John Brown were held to only 12 and 15 points respectively.

Brooklyn Nets 41-26

Antonio Henderson has a great game with 18 points and 12 rebounds as we blast out a 30-14 third term to ground the Rockets 108-99. Juia is starting to get used to the NBA and had 17 points tonight. Wiz had sticky fingers tonight with 16 points and 7 steals. Andy Kante was great for Houston with 28 points but they shot only 44% from the field.

Brooklyn Nets 42-26

One goes in and one goes out as Shoo is back in the line-up for our game for Boston. He had 19 points and 7 rebounds while Juia contributed 16 points in 15 minutes but we get creamed, going down to the red hot Celtics 142-129. Astonishingly, five Boston players had 20 points or more, led by Jimmy Forrest and Lars Morgan with 25 each. Oh yeah, the one that went out? Antonio Henderson sprained his ankle and will be out of action for at least a week. Sigh.

Brooklyn Nets 42-27

It’s funny that a guy like Lars Ray who hasn’t played for us in three years still holds a grudge against the team that traded him. And tonight he unleashed his fury, going 20/26 for 42 points and 10 rebounds as the Lakers upset us at home 133-112. Lou was our best with 27 points and 15 assists while Traves went 10/11 for 22 points in 20 minutes but the Lakers blindsided us.

Brooklyn Nets 42-28

Cort Majishun did everything he could with 32 points and 12 assists but we got the win, taking the game behind 22 points, 14 assists and 7 steals from Lou Beck, beating Memphis 106-101. Raul was fantastic with 29 points and 10 rebounds while Juia had 11 rebounds. I feel sorry for Majishun and would definitely give him a crack if we didn’t have Lou running the show.

Brooklyn Nets 42-28

That’s more like it as we pound the helpless Jazz 122-102 as Raul continued his fine form with 29 points and 15 rebounds. Oh and Lou had a pretty good game as well with 25 points, 10 assists, 7 rebounds and 4 steals. Nathaniel Jackson really needs some help out there in Utah, having 34 points but not getting much from his teammates.

Brooklyn Nets 44-28

Hey! We have our proper starting five of Beck, Jones, Lopez, Henderson and Vanderwerken back! It’s only taken lots and lots of games to get back to it but it’s here. And guess what? None of those guys were our star in our 113-98 smashing of Memphis. That honour went to Ben Herrion who had 28 points in 22 minutes in a crazy display of spark shooting. Cort Majishun didn’t have a good night, going 4/17 for 14 points and 13 assists.

Brooklyn Nets 45-28

This time it was one of our starters who took the lead as Shoo had his first great game back from injury with 27 points and 10 rebounds as we ream the Hawks 127-103. He had plenty of help as all four other starters (plus 18 points in 13 minutes from Ben Herrion again) were over the score of 15 points. Michael McQuay and Marcus Randle combined for 45 points and 22 rebounds but got nothing else.

Brooklyn Nets 46-28

Our last game of March was a simple 113-97 beat down of Miami as Shoo is gaining his confidence again with 21 points and 8 rebounds. Juia isn’t taking being bench sitting down (groan) with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Lance Ellis led the Heat with 26 points while Kenneth Long was held to only 3/14 shooting.

Brooklyn Nets 47-28

This is going to be a hugely close fight to playoff positioning as Indiana is leading the way at 48-24 but there are six other teams that are above .550. We are sitting smack bang in the middle in fourth place but if we aren’t careful we could slide to seventh. Toronto are at the bottom at 18-56.

Dallas have broken away from the rest of the West at 51-18, six games ahead of Milwaukee and another four in front of San Diego so it’s their’s to lose. San Antonio have also broken away but in the wrong direction as they are five games behind second last placed Seattle at 18-54.

Last Round of NBA Draft Prospects
1. SG Pete Edgerson (Oregon State), Freshman, 6’4”, 214lbs
2. PF Abel Williams (High Point), Freshman, 6’8”, 223lbs
3. SF Marshod Anderson (Stanford), Sophomore, 6’5”, 200lbs
4. SF Alan Patton (Purdue), Freshman, 6’5”, 224lbs
5. PF Ipolitas Margolis (Latvia), 19 years old, 6’9”, 232lbs

Thoughts – Unless Edgerson holds up a liquor store he will go number one but I’m still not sold on Williams as he hasn’t really improved much this season, coasting on his natural ability. Anderson and Patton look like much better gambles at this stage with both of them averaging over 30 points a game.

As the last round of youngsters are ranked there has been some massive news in the draft camp. High school students will again be allowed to jump from secondary school to the professionals if they decide that is the right course of action. Not since 2006 has a high school player been drafted so it’s good news for underage superstars to get paid earlier. Will it work out for teams or is a lot of potential going to go to waste without college refinement? Only time will tell.

March Player of the Month – Michael McQuay, Atlanta Hawks – 32.0 points, 7.6 rebounds, 1.4 assists, 1.6 steals and 1.2 blocks per game.

March Rookie of the Month – Zan Tepavac, Oklahoma City Thunder – 16.3 points, 4.7 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 0.4 steals and 0.2 blocks per game.

With seven games to go (six on an away trip) we have clinched our spot in the playoffs so I guess I’m safe there from Mr Wilkins but we need to keep going strong to get a good seed.

Game one of our six game away trip is a disappointing one as we get down by 20 points to the Nuggets and no-one is coming back from that as we lose 113-106 after we come back a little in garbage time. Leon Oliver and Kenroy McPherson combined for 47 points as we were held to only 44% shooting. Raul was great with 27 points on 10/18 shooting but everyone else shot quite badly.

Brooklyn Nets 47-29

Grr, this was not a good game. We started out well, outscoring the Hornets 34-17 in the first quarter but after that we fell apart, losing every other quarter to go down by one shot, 117-114. Billy Manley was the best for NOH with 23 points as we shot 42% from the field as they shot 51 free throws in the game. We threw away a triple double by Lou who had 22 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists before fouling out in the last term. What a waste of a game.

Brooklyn Nets 47-30

OK this is getting ridiculous as we give up another double digit lead to blow it and lose by a single shot, this time to Seattle and the score of 112-110. We shot 42% again and this is the opposite of what I wanted, we’re going into the playoffs with a whimper with our full side. Travis Grigsby had 22 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists while Antonio was our best with 24 points and 10 rebounds.

Brooklyn Nets 47-31

This team is in free fall as we lose our fourth game in a row and there’s no chance for us to get a good seed now as we fall to Nevada 139-121. Clifton Collier was the best in the game with 27 points, 13 rebounds and 5 steals as we waste another triple double, this time from Antonio who had 14 points, 12 rebounds and 10 blocks.

Brooklyn Nets 47-32

I just don’t know what to do as we lose our fifth game in a row, this time to Sacramento 126-113. We were well and truly beaten as Robert Martin nearly had a massive triple double with 27 points, 12 assists and 9 rebounds. Wiz had 25 points but we are free falling.

Brooklyn Nets 47-33

I never thought that one of my teams would go 0-6 on a six game away tour but that’s just what has happened as we go down to San Diego 116-100. I have no idea why I traded away Cliff Havens so quickly as he has made a fool out of me, combining with Kevin Epps for 58 points, 14 rebounds and 11 assists. I don’t even want to talk about our side.

Brooklyn Nets 47-34

Yay! Our last game of the season is also a home one which means we won! We withstood a 39 point barrage from Tiburcio Tommasini to win 127-104. Shoo was amazing with 38 points and 17 rebounds and it just goes to show what some home cooking can do for us. I’m nervous about the playoffs though.

Brooklyn Nets 48-34

With such a horrible last month I was expecting the worse but it seems the teams below us also had terrible Aprils as we finishing in fifth spot in the East.

2034 NBA Playoffs

Eastern Conference
#1 Atlanta vs. #8 Miami
#2 Indiana vs. #7 New Orleans
#3 Washington vs. #6 Chicago
#4 Cleveland vs. #5 Brooklyn

Western Conference
#1 Dallas vs. #8 Houston
#2 Milwaukee vs. #7 Golden State
#3 San Diego vs. #6 Denver
#4 Portland vs. #5 Minnesota

We split the season series 2-2 but the way we finished the season and not having home court advantage I’m not too confident.

Eastern Conference First Round – Brooklyn vs. Cleveland

Point Guard
Lou Beck vs. Jamil Fleming
20.3 points, 10.8 assists, 5.2 rebounds vs. 19.9 points, 5.6 assists, 6.2 rebounds

In a massive surprise, Beck has been one of the best point guards in the league, even leading the NBA in efficiency. He’ll have a hard time against another fantastic floor general in Fleming and I wouldn’t want to miss any of this match-up, top notch players.

Winner - Draw

Shooting Guard
Chris Jones vs. Oskar Carlsson
13.0 points, 7.6 assists, 4.8 rebounds vs. 2.7 points, 6.5 assists, 8.6 rebounds

The Wizard has had a season like a roller coaster, lots of ups and downs. He’s a great player who can take over a game with his scoring or his passing. Carlsson on the other hand can’t score at all as his career high in points is a whopping 10 points. He does everything else but at 36 years old he might be a bit too old to really make a difference in this series.

Winner - Draw

Small Forward
Raul Lopez vs. Frank Slaughter
18.0 points, 1.4 assists, 6.4 rebounds vs. 20.1 points, 5.5 assists, 5.1 rebounds

They might look like nice stats (and they are) but there are a few asterisks on Slaughter’s game. He’s turnover prone, he’s not a very good defender and he is shooting 38% from the field this season. If he fires then look out but he can extinguish his own flame very quickly.

Winner - Draw

Power Forward
Antonio Henderson vs. Jesse Rucker
12.1 points, 0.8 assists, 8.5 rebounds vs. 14.4 points, 1.5 assists, 7.1 rebounds

The best minimum contracted player in the league is Antonio Henderson, no doubt. I’m sure this off season he’ll get a fat pay check but right now he’s all about this series. When Vanderwerken went down Henderson stepped up and has been a vocal leader of this team. Rucker can be classed as a good but not great player but will need to contribute for the Cavs to take the win.

Winner - Brooklyn

Centre
Schuyler Vanderwerken vs. Art Stevenson
15.7 points, 0.9 assists, 8.3 rebounds vs. 18.0 points, 0.9 assists, 8.0 rebounds

Any other year this would be a win for Brooklyn but this isn’t any ordinary year. Art Stevenson has been on fire all through the year while Vanderwerken has been very disappointing. If Stevenson can continue his excellent form then Vanderwerken could become a non-entity.

Winner - Draw

Bench
Robert Jackson, Juia Henchoz, Traves Parker vs. Tip Smith, Torraye Driggers, Tim Westbrooks

After two months on the sidelines, Jackson has almost recovered from his broken wrist and has been cleared to play which is good news for the Nets as he’s an important part of this team’s bench. Henchoz has been excellent in his short time in the pros while Parker can fill it up in a hurry. The only thing missing is good guard bench which Tip Smith and Tim Westbrooks can take advantage of to keep games close.

Winner – Draw

Prediction – Cleveland in seven. This series has no clear advantages and disadvantages so it’s really a toss of a coin to see who moves on. Expect it to be a long one though as both teams aren’t too flash away from home which gives the advantage to the Cavaliers.

Did I say that we aren’t good away from Brooklyn? Well, that would be correct as the Cavs shoot a crazy 59% from the field to blow us out 140-114. Frank Slaughter says I’m not a bad shooter, going 14/21 for 35 points as Art Stevenson helps out with 26 points. Fifty nine percent from the field, did we just lay down or something? Wiz was our best with 16 points, 11 assists and 6 rebounds but if we are this bad then it’s going to be a short series.

Cleveland leads 1-0

Game two wasn’t as bad as game one, barely. Frank Slaughter had 26 points while Art Stevenson was his helper again with 22 points and 7 rebounds in 23 minutes as we get blown out again, this time 132-113. To be fair, they only shot 55% from the field this game. Lou was our best with 29 points but we’re sinking. Hopefully going home will start our engines.

Cleveland leads 2-0

Nope. The Cavs outscore us 36-17 in the first quarter to take us to the brink of a sweep with a 116-97 win as we haven’t got below a 20 point beating yet. Jesse Rucker (32 points, 8 rebounds), Frank Slaughter (30 points) and Art Stevenson (22 points, 19 rebounds) did all of the damage as we shoot 40% from the field. Lou was our best again with 16 points and 10 assists as Wiz has been shut down by Oskar Carlsson and finished with a 3/13 shooting night.

Cleveland leads 3-0

Ugh, we lose 125-107 to get swept. Art Stevenson had 27 points while Wiz had 17 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists. Ugh.

Cleveland wins 4-0

At least we weren’t the only sweep of the playoffs as #2 Milwaukee takes the brooms to #7 Golden State while #4 Portland knocks out #5 Minnesota. All but one series finished in five games as #1 Atlanta and Dallas beat Miami and Houston, while #3 Washington and #2 Indiana took care of #6 Chicago and #7 New Orleans. Only the San Diego and Denver continues. And we have our first upset as Kenroy McPherson has 23 points for the Nuggets who move on with a 108-97 game six win.
