Thanks! It's fantastic when I get feedback from readers, especially positive. :D Still got plenty of years left as I'll probably pull the pin when the last of the Rookie Six retire.

After eight titles and eight parades through three cities, it still doesn’t get old. Seeing all of those beaming faces and knowing what you and the team had to endure and sacrifice for eternal glory is a thrill that will never fade. But, as usual, I have to get back to work and first up is the draft lottery.

16 – Houston (-1)

Well how about that! Milwaukee and their 0.4% chance has jumped all the way up to the top three! Talk about excitement straight off the bat.

15 – Phoenix (-1)
14 – San Diego (-1)
13 – Detroit (-1)
12 – Orlando (-1)
11 – Toronto (-1)
10 – Philadelphia (-1)
9 – Nevada (-1)
8 – Los Angeles (-1)
7 – San Antonio (-1)
6 – Golden State (-1)
5 – Memphis (-1)
4 – Charlotte (-3)

The worst outcome for the league worst Bobcats as Boston and New York jump up.

3 – Boston (0)
2 – New York (-1)
1 – Milwaukee (+15)

I have never, ever seen anything like this before as the team with the least amount of ping pong balls ends up with the top pick. Let me repeat, the Bucks had a 0.4% chance of this, they had four balls in one thousand. My mind is well and truly boggled.

It’s award season time and if Cort doesn’t make a team I’m calling shenanigans.

Most Valuable Player:
Michael Taylor, Milwaukee Bucks – 31.5 points, 7.2 assists, 4.8 rebounds, 1.2 steals, 0.6 blocks

Soon to be joined by the number one draft pick.

Defensive Player of the Year:
Oskar Carlsson, Cleveland Cavaliers – 2.3 points, 5.7 assists, 6.8 rebounds, 1.7 steals, 2.3 blocks

Even though Magnus was drafted before Oskar, it seems that Oskar has had the better career.

Sixth Man of the Year:
Joe Morgan, Washington Wizards – 11.8 points, 1.5 assists, 4.5 rebounds, 1.4 steals, 0.3 blocks

Not quite sure of this one as our own Curtis Anderson could have won it judging by Morgan’s numbers.

Rookie of the Year:
Salvador Rios, Brooklyn Nets – 9.5 points, 0.8 assists, 6.7 rebounds, 0.5 steals, 1.5 blocks

Well deserved and hopefully next season he can jump up to the next level of elite big men.

Coach of the Year:
Jeff Lane, Brooklyn Nets
– 65-17 (.793)

Pretty basic here, best record by far and a title to boot. Simple.

All NBA First Team:
Michael Taylor, Milwaukee Bucks
Tobe Slaughter, Portland Trailblazers
Enrique Mendez, Minnesota Timberwolves
Ish Faye, Indiana Pacers
Art Stevenson, Cleveland Cavaliers

All NBA Second Team:
Lou Beck, Miami Heat
Jason London, Washington Wizards
Lars Ray, Los Angeles Lakers
Nathaniel Jackson, Utah Jazz
Schuyler Vanderwerken, Miami Heat

All NBA Third Team:
Cort Majishun, Brooklyn Nets

Mike Bickerstaf, Oklahoma City Thunder
Alfons Dietz, Seattle Supersonics
Julius Hobbs, New York Knicks
Jerry Benton, New Orleans Hornets

All Defence First Team:
Camah Williams, Minnesota Timberwolves
Oskar Carlsson, Cleveland Cavaliers
Jamaal Lewis, Philadelphia 76ers
Ish Faye, Indiana Pacers
Schuyler Vanderwerken, Miami Heat

All Defence Second Team:
Jehiel DeSantis, Denver Nuggets
Kenneth Long, Brooklyn Nets
Hayletts Wilcox, Seattle Supersonics
Keith Chapman, Seattle Supersonics
Darryl Abrams, Orlando Magic

All Rookie First Team:
Flavian Pesmazoglou, Toronto Raptors
Quinton Scott, New Orleans Hornets
Paul Gilbert, San Antonio Spurs
Anthony Coley, Golden State Warriors
Salvador Rios, Brooklyn Nets

All Rookie Second Team:
Ehrhart Albertz, Houston Rockets
Dan Oliver, Portland Trailblazers
Rick Ballis, San Diego Riders
Ratko Nedic, Orlando Magic
Jamie McMillian, Detroit Pistons

The conversation I’ve been dreading ever since the euphoria of winning the championship wore off.

“Hi Yaxley, sit down.”

I do what he says.

“Do you remember what I said last season at this meeting?” His eyes are like x-rays.

I can recall it as clear as if I had it tattooed on my arm, “Either you cut the salary by next season to near the salary cap or you’re gone.”

Without blinking an eye he spits, “I’m glad you remember, and at $13.6 million over the cap we’re not there. So, you’re fired.”

I’m floored, I thought the title could have saved me but apparently not.

As I walk out I’m furious but a couple of days later that feeling evaporated completely. Because apparently when the news was announced that I was fired there was an immediate backlash. Thousands of Nets supporters ripped up their memberships and boycotted Brooklyn merchandise. It was fantastic! I don’t want to sound egotistical but I did give the team their first ever championship and then backed it up the next year. After five days of intense picketing (yes picketing, there were people with signs outside Mr Hill’s office, house and the stadium) I got a call.

“Ahem, um hi Yaxley I feel that I have made a mistake and I would love to have you back as general manager.”

I sigh from relief.

“With one stipulation.”

Uh oh.

“This team has to be within $1 million of the cap by the end of the season, no ifs or buts. Even if we go 82-0 and win another title it won’t matter, you have to get this team to the cap.”

I was close to telling him to shove it but I love this team and I’ve built it so I don’t want to just walk away from it all so I swallow and tell him I’m in.

“With one stipulation."

I could see him wince, which was good.

“The way you run this club is terrible as basketball is more than just dollars and business and you just don’t get that. So I’ll get this team to within the cap but this season is my last with the Nets. After next season, I’m done.”

I didn’t give him the satisfaction of having the last word and I walked out, straight to my office to do my job.

I regain my composure to go over the mock draft, where we have the #32 pick.

1 – Milwaukee – C BJ Watson
2 – New York – PG Gamal Hicks
3 – Boston – PG LaZelle Milsap
4 – Charlotte – C Shaheen Mason
5 – Memphis – PG Ryan Cornell
6 – Golden State – PF Steve Respert
7 – San Antonio – PG Jim Harris
8 – Los Angeles – SG Andre Betts
9 – Nevada – SF James Carroll
10 – Philadelphia – PF Dan Wilks
11 – Toronto – C Kurt Lewis
12 – Orlando – PF Bradley Brown
13 – Detroit – PF Corey Walker
14 – San Diego – SF Tim King
15 – Phoenix – SG Joel Collins
16 – Houston – C Brandon Bailey

The top four of this draft looks like the real deal but after that it drops off a cliff. Memphis must be kicking themselves.

I call Tiburcio Tommasini into my office two days before the draft.

“Hey TT, how’s things?” I ask to get the ball rolling.

“Excellent!” He’s always optimistic. “My knee will be ready for the start of next season, I won’t miss a game and I’m itching to get out there and pull my weight for the team.”

Not how I wanted to start.

I sigh, gulp and just push right into it.

“Look TT, I love you, the guys love you and the fans love you. It’s just with our owner Mr Hill coming down on me we are too far over the cap. I need to shed salary and you have the most appealing contract.”

The look on his face was like seeing your son when his dog dies. But I continue.

“You’re owed over $19 million next season and that’s a lot of money. You’re an outstanding player that any team would love to have so I’m going to have to trade you at the draft. I’m so sorry, I wish there was another way but there isn’t. I’ve handed in my resignation because of Mr Hill’s conduct after this season so if you ever want to team up again we can do it somewhere else.”

He didn’t say anything for a while but you could tell that he had accepted it.

“Thank you for the privilege of winning two titles and I’ll never forget them. And thank you for telling me all of this instead of me finding out when it happened. Good luck next season.”

2036 NBA Draft

Good news, I find a trading partner straight away, as you can expect there was no shortage of people waiting in the wings.

Brooklyn trade:
SF Tiburcio Tommasini
2036 2nd round pick

Milwaukee trade:
2036 1st round pick
SG Wes Barnes
PF Daniel Roma

Winner – Milwaukee. It’s not often that a team trades the number one pick but this was a no brainer. Pairing Tommasini with Michael Taylor spells trouble for the rest of the league. There was an ultimatum given to Brooklyn to shed salary and this does just that as they get $19 million in savings as well as the number one pick.

This is probably the best I could have done while getting our salary down so I’ll take it. I don’t think we can retain Marlin Bain either so I go big to pair with Sal.

1 – Brooklyn – C BJ Watson
The experts like it and so do I. He will be better than Shaheen Mason who I was tossing up between but Watson has so much better potential.

Memphis has the gall to offer Reggie Smith for Cort Majishun which I flatly refuse. Been there, done that.

2 – New York – PG Ryan Cornell
This was a surprise as many thought that Gamal Hicks would be the first PG off the bench. That’s not to say that Cornell is bad as I think that he will be a great PG in the league. The experts like him but not here.

3 – Boston – PG Gamal Hicks
The Celtics are thanking their rivals for gifting them the pre-draft number one pick. He’ll be in the mold of the scoring point ala Ledaryl McMillian.

4 – Charlotte – PF Dan Wilks
Good enough scorer but that’s pretty much his only talent. Not a good pick here by the Bobcats.

5 – Memphis – SF Tim King
This guy looks really good on paper, 21ppg, 11rpg, 6apg, 2.4 steals and 1.5 blocks. He’s only 6’5” but if he can come anywhere near his college production then look out. Probably too early but I’m a fan.

6 – Golden State – PG LaZelle Milsap
Excellent pick for #6 as he will be a great player. His range isn’t great but everything else is top notch.

7 – San Antonio – C Shaheen Mason
I’m not quite sure why he dropped but the Spurs got a gift here. He’s a spitting image of Washington’s Rowan Taylor and San Antonio are hoping he gets there because Taylor’s a stud.

8 – Los Angeles – PF Perry McCrary
He’s got a good touch around the ring and his vision is decent but he’s not a wow player. Definitely not lottery material and to pick him inside the top ten is a wasted pick.

9 – Nevada – PF Steve Respert
I really like this kid as he is as good a scorer as there is in this draft. This is a steal, plain and simple.

10 – Philadelphia – PF Corey Walker
I think the Sixers were hoping for a Respert in their hands so panic and go for the next best PF. Unfortunately the next best PF isn’t anywhere near as good as Respert. He’ll struggle but eventually find a place in the league.

11 – Toronto – C Kurt Lewis
I really like Lewis. His rebounding numbers are off the charts (16.7rpg) and the last time that happened it ended up as Marlin Bain and you know how good he is. The experts think the Raptors jumped the gun but Lewis will help them.

12 – Orlando – PG Jim Harris
Another shoot first point guard but Harris has the added benefit of being an above average defender. The experts are ripping this pick to shreds, like worst in the last ten years which I disagree with. He’s not lottery potential but he’s not that bad.

13 – Detroit – SG Andre Betts
Finally! This kid can play. He’s a winning passer and his shot is rock solid. For pick #13 this is the steal of the draft.

14 – San Diego – PF Todd Woods
Who? I’m sorry but this kid might be good but I have no idea who this is. He’s from Hofstra, 6’10” and a power forward. Sorry, I’m not much help here.

15 – Phoenix – PG Max Jones
It’s starting to thin out here even though there is some decent talent left in the stands. Jones will have a place in the league but it probably won’t be more than a bench player which isn’t a good pick in the lottery.

16 – Houston – SF James Carroll
He’s good and for the last pick of the lottery it’s a good one. He will never be an All Star but that’s not what you look for here, he’ll be a good contributor for the Rockets which is a tick in my book.

The draft drops off from here but there’s one guy that I like so I trade the #32 pick and next year’s first rounder to New Orleans for pick #17.

17 – Brooklyn – SG Jon Childs
He can score and rebound but the best thing about him is that he’s tenacious on defence. Probably won’t get much burn this season but I love his work ethic. The experts pan it but I’m happy enough with it.

18 – Atlanta – SG Bradley Brown
19 – Sacramento – PF Cain Davis
20 – Denver – PG Mark Blake
21 – Detroit – SF Josh Davis
22 – Portland – C Kevin Coley
23 – Seattle – PG Jonathan Williamson
24 – Cleveland – PF Matt Lynch
25 – Washington – PF Wesley Reynolds
26 – Oklahoma City – C Brandon Bailey
27 – Chicago – C Lee Hatter
28 – Minnesota – PG Pat DeWitt
29 – Dallas – PG Ozkan Periganovlu
30 – Miami – SG Joel Collins
31 – Indiana – PG Tarvis Lawrence
32 – New Orleans – PG Arthur Carey

Good news – Watson looks every bit of a number one draft pick.
Bad news – Childs looks terrible and won’t get any NBA action until at least two years. Whoops.

No exciting trades on draft night but some decent ones.

Denver trade:
SG Adarrial Faye
2036 2nd round pick

Detroit trade:
C Kurt Harrington

Winner – Denver. Not only did they trade the serial cancer in Faye they got a guy who exploded last season to average 20 points and 10 rebounds. If he can keep that up in Denver it would be amazing. Detroit is now Faye’s 13th stop in only twelve seasons.

San Diego trade:
C Mark Frazier
2036 2nd round pick

New York trade:
PG Dave Coulter

Winner – San Diego. Hopefully Coulter can get back to his best as last year was far from it. He was benched for most of the season which is a shame because he can flat out ball. Frazier is a $7 million expiring.

As I said, not many good deals.

I make Marlin Bain a restricted free agent through a qualifying offer but it’s just for show as we can’t afford to match anything anyone offers him. Just keep that quiet? I hold onto John Brown’s rights but renounce Robert Jackson, Ben Herrion and Jason Mason. I also don’t give newcomers Wes Barnes and Daniel Roma the team option so they get renounced as well which puts us $1.6 million under the cap which is a good place to be.

It’s summer league time and Ryan Lemeke, Jon Childs, Abel Williams, Luigi Cannavaro, Salvador Rios and BJ Watson all get their names called to play.

We start with a bang, smashing the Magic 114-85 behind Sal’s 16 points, 6 rebounds and 6 blocks in only 24 minutes. Luigi also had a great game with 18 points and 7 rebounds off the bench. It was hard to get a real good look at everyone as people only played half a game. Brad Kennedy led Orlando with 14 points.

Sal was again great with 22 points and 12 rebounds but we go down to the Pacers 103-98. Jon Childs surprised me with 17 points which was matched by Abel Williams. Trey Hill had 20 points for Indiana.

Another flogging by us as we score 82 points in the first half as seven Nets were in double figures, led by BJ Watson’s 16 points and 6 rebounds in 22 minutes. Again everyone had a great run as the lowest minute total was Rashon Fuller with 12 minutes.

Abel Williams had 16 points and 13 rebounds, Jon Childs went 9/12 for 20 points in 19 minutes and we won again, this time dousing the Grizz 125-86. Luigi has been great so far off the bench with 14 points and 7 rebounds as again everyone had their turn as all 12 Brooklyn players scored.

It was a closer game but we still came out on top as Sal put up 24 points and 7 rebounds to lead our 102-97 win over Boston. Andy Griffith who has been very impressive off the bench had 17 points. Alan Patton had 24 points for the C’s.

With eleven players under contract and hopefully getting JB back we don’t really need anyone so this is going to be a pretty boring free agency from the Brooklyn Nets. Here are the top ten free agents to get your mouths drooling –

PF Michael McQuay
SG Tobe Slaughter
C Jason Harriman
SF Enrique Mendez
SF Alfons Dietz
PG DJ Forbes
PF Mark Lyday
PF Julius Hobbs
PF Gerrod Phelan*
SG Shaun Tebbs*

The top five is outstanding with a lot of silverware up there while the rest still has a lot to give a team that is willing to fork out the cash.

About a week into the period Dallas re-sign Ledaryl McMillian to a one year, $8.7 million contract which is a sure sign that he is on his downward slide. Michael McQuay also goes back to Atlanta on a max deal. Alfons Dietz re-signs with Seattle two days later.

What an amazingly boring free agency as DJ Forbes, Rowan Taylor, Mark Lyday, Jason Harriman, Gerrod Phelan, Enrique Mendez and Jason Collins all go back to their respective teams. Yawn.

Woo! Marlin Bain likes it her so much that he is willing to go one more year before that big payday as he accepts the tender offer at $903,000. Great news! Now just JB and I’ll be happy.

Yep, he signed on the dotted line for a two year, $4.9 million deal which is great because we still have over a million in cap space.

Wow. Just wow. It seemed that Tobe Slaughter is willing to do anything to get a title and today he signed a 3 year, $9 million (TOTAL) deal with Dallas to put them back in contention in a huge way. Damn, if I knew he was going to be that cheap I would have tried to get him. We sign Nuh Shushud to be our back up SF for a one year minimum deal.

I feel bad that Curtis Mueller had such a bad time last season as he’s too good and too young to be riding the pine so I ring up the Raptors and trade him for a second round pick. That puts us at just over a million under the cap which I want to use for another SF or PF to bolster the bench.

Training camp comes and goes and there’s so nice potential on this team. Ryan Lemeke doesn’t look like the player I thought he would be but Jon Childs has actually shown some improvement. Sure he’ll be in the D-League this year but I’m not writing him off yet. Luigi and Sal haven’t improved at all which is disturbing but BJ Watson is looking nice.

Eastern Conference Pre-Season Rankings
1 – Brooklyn Nets

2 – Indiana Pacers
3 – Orlando Magic
4 – Atlanta Hawks
5 – Memphis Grizzlies
Last – Detroit Pistons

Of course we are the favourites in the East even though we lost TT but the rest is top notch. Washington, Miami and Cleveland at #11, 12 and 13 respectively is a joke as all three should be in the playoffs.

Western Conference Pre-Season Rankings
1 – Dallas Mavericks
2 – Oklahoma City Thunder
3 – Milwaukee Bucks
4 – Seattle Supersonics
5 – Sacramento Kings
Last – San Antonio Spurs

With the addition of Tobe Slaughter I can definitely see them being the favourites to take it all out, especially if Ledaryl doesn’t fall off too much. The Thunder and Bucks are also elite teams so it’s going to be a crazy ride this season. The Spurs are plain terrible and should be rooted to the cellar all season.

Pre-Season All NBA First Team:
Cort Majishun, Brooklyn Nets
Kenneth Long, Brooklyn Nets

Jack Dawkins, Dallas Mavericks
Michael McQuay, Atlanta Hawks
Jason Harriman, Denver Nuggets

Pre-Season All NBA Second Team:
Michael Harmon, Indiana Pacers
Cameron Brown, Houston Rockets
Tiburcio Tommasini, Milwaukee Bucks
Ishmael Faye, Indiana Pacers
Schuyler Vanderwerken, Miami Heat

Pre-Season All NBA Third Team:
Michael Taylor, Milwaukee Bucks
Mike Bickerstaf, Oklahoma City Thunder
Marshod Anderson, Toronto Raptors
Reggie Smith, Memphis Grizzlies
Jerry Benton, New Orleans Hornets

In my last season at the helm of the Brooklyn Nets, here is your 2036-2037 “One last time” Brooklyn Nets –

PG – Cort Majishun
SG – Kenneth Long
SF – Curtis Anderson
PF – Abel Williams
C – Marlin Bain
6th – Nuh Shushud
7th – Matias Perez
8th – John Brown
9th – Salvador Rios
10th – BJ Watson
11th – Jeffrey Womack (signed a couple of days before today)
12th – Ryan Lemeke
D-League – Luigi Cannavaro
D-League – Jon Childs

Cort, Ken and Curtis combine for a crazy 89 points, 27 assists, 18 rebounds and 7 steals as we blast the Kings to open the season 133-103. The rest of the team just had to sit back and relax as those three took over. Jaymes Kincaid had 28 points and 9 assists from the SG position as he’s sharing the back court with Joe Adras. There was talk that they wouldn’t be able to work together but it seems to be OK so far.

Brooklyn Nets 1-0

Our big three were again great, combining for 63 points but we let the Wolves outscore us 69-47 in the first half and not even a huge comeback could get us over the line as we go down 119-114. It wasn’t Enrique Mendez or Camah Williams who did the damage but fourth year man Carl Wilkins who put up 35 points and 9 rebounds. My old draftee Randy Canal is starting at SG which is great news for him.

Brooklyn Nets 1-1

JB had a go at Coach Lane because he’s not getting the court time like last season and that’s not on. I took a chance on signing him to two years in the off season but I’m not against trading him if he keeps sooking. I don’t want any trouble in my last season.

Grr, if we want to be taken seriously without TT we need to beat great teams like Indiana. Not let Ish Faye and Michael Harmon combine for 34 free throws to score 63 points between them as we fall just short 115-112. Curtis continued his fine form with 29 points but Cort went 3/17 and I don’t know how we got so close as the Pacers won nearly every statistical category.

Brooklyn Nets 1-2

To make matters worse, Curtis has a sore leg and will be coming off the bench for the next game.

Wow, what an end to a game. Not that it was close as we beat the Spurs 102-80 but we outscored them 24-9 in the last term! Marlin had his best game so far with 31 points and 12 rebounds while Ken and Cort added 44 points, 15 assists and 14 rebounds. San Antonio really doesn’t have any talent on their team, just average players with no potential except for Shaheen Mason who is too young to help out. Sean Robertson was horrible, going 3/21 for 6 points.

Brooklyn Nets 2-2

I’m pretty sure that if we played the Spurs 82 games a season we would go 82-0 as we beat them again 129-95. Marlin Bain was again great with 27 points and 12 rebounds but strained his abdomen and will be out for just under two weeks. The real star of the game was Matias Perez who had a perfect game, going 6/6 from the field, 2/2 from three, 3/3 FTs, 1 rebound, 1 steal, 2 blocks and 17 points in only 6 minutes. Extrapolate that out to 40 minutes and he would have had 113 points. Brandon Morris had 26 points but had no help from anyone else.

Brooklyn Nets 3-2

Sal will start for Marlin.

We won every quarter in our game against the Hornets to win over there 122-106. Cort had 21 points as everyone played at least 10 minutes and scored at least 5 points which is a great showing for the team. Chris Bailey led six other Hornets in double figures with 21 points but we shot 20 more free throws than our opponents.

Brooklyn Nets 4-2

Going into Chicago I though we would have a good chance of winning but we get smashed, shooting 41% to the Bulls’ 51% to go down 114-98. Patrick Blizzard got the player of the game award with 35 points but it should have gone to DJ Forbes for his 21 point, 13 assist and 10 rebound triple double. It was his third career triple double and second of the season. Sal was our star, going 10/11 for 20 points and 8 rebounds but Cort and Ken shot 11/38 for a waste of a game.

Brooklyn Nets 4-3

Jeffrey Womack decides to pipe up about playing time and I quickly shut him up. Another outburst and you’re gone Jeff.

That’s better as we stomp the Blazers to make me feel a bit better as we run them out of our home 113-87. Ken had 24 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists as BJ Watson had his best game of his short career with 14 points and 7 rebounds. Tim Martin led the Blazers with only 13 points.

Brooklyn Nets 5-3

Sal went 1/11 in our 112-94 win over New York but he did finish with 18 rebounds and 3 blocks so that’s OK in my books. He had Curtis taking the scoring load with 24 points while Abel added 15 points and 13 rebounds. It’s strange to see #2 pick Ryan Cornell not playing tonight as I thought they would want him to play as much as possible. If the Knicks are going to play him only 5 minutes a game send him down to the D-League. Jit wei Fong led them with 16 points as Chris Jones went 1/6 from the field.

Brooklyn Nets 6-3

Marlin is back in the starting line up next to Sal as Abel moves to the bench and we ride Marlin all the way to the end. We outscore the Suns 41-29 in the last to steal a 137-131 win as Marlin put up 26 points and 11 rebounds. He was outdone by Curtis who had 23 points, 10 assists, 8 rebounds and 4 steals. Tony Solverson who got a massive pay rise in the off season put that money to good use with 14 points, 13 assists and 7 rebounds.

Brooklyn Nets 7-3

The Knicks get their revenge at the Garden as Chris Jones plays much better with 22 points and 11 assists to lead his team to a 115-108 win. Jit wei Fong was also great with 20 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists. Even Ryan Cornell got 8 minutes for 2 points. Marlin was our best with 25 points and 11 rebounds and whatever team I’m on next season I’m going to be gunning to get him in my squad.

Brooklyn Nets 7-4

Our last game of the month is a 116-109 victory over the up and coming Orlando Magic who, if they keep their core together, should compete as soon as next season. Cort had 30 points and 8 assists while Marlin and Abel added 25 rebounds between them. My old friend Juia Henchoz had 22 points to lead the Magic.

Brooklyn Nets 8-4

After a little underwhelming month with a lot of kinks to work out we are sitting third in the East, behind the 12-4 Heat and 14-6 Pacers but it’s still much to early. Charlotte have fallen to the bottom like a stone at 3-15.

The Thunder are perfect so far at 8-0 which is the first perfect month I’ve seen in a while while Minnesota (13-5) and Utah (10-5) are behind them. It’s strange to see Dallas at only 7-5 with the addition of Tobe Slaughter but they might still be working things out. Nevada are 3-13 and my pick for worst team in the West, San Antonio, are not too bad at 7-13.

Brooklyn Top Points
Cort Majishun – 21.0
Kenneth Long – 18.9
Curtis Anderson – 18.8

Brooklyn Top Assists
Cort Majishun – 7.4
Kenneth Long – 5.9
Curtis Anderson – 5.2

Brooklyn Top Rebounds
Abel Williams – 7.8
Marlin Bain – 7.8
Salvador Rios – 7.3

We’ve got a little problem with our front court as Williams, Bain, Rios and Watson (and Cannavaro next season) will all need playing time but there aren’t enough minutes to go around soon.

League Leaders
Points – Axel Rancik (OKC) – 30.9
Assists – Lou Beck (MIA) – 12.0
Rebounds – Reggie Smith (MEM) – 12.1
Blocks – Jerry Benton (NOH) – 2.7
Steals – Jehiel DeSantis (DEN) – 2.8
Efficiency – Mike Bickerstaf (OKC) – 33.0

A few interesting bits of information so far this season:
- Rancik was drafted one spot ahead of my pick in 2034 (where I picked Abel Williams) so you can sense that I’m a little miffed.
- Rancik and teammate Mike Bickerstaf (29.8ppg) combine to average 60.7 points a game which is insane.
- Curtis Mueller is making the most of his trade to Toronto, averaging 11.4 assists per game which is good for third in the league.
- DJ Forbes from Chicago is averaging 17.4ppg, 11.0apg and 7.0rpg and already has three triple doubles.
- Tobe Slaughter is doing his part in Dallas, averaging 30.8ppg on a mind bending 63.3% from the field.

Rookie Leaders
Points – Shaheen Mason (SAS) – 14.4
Assists – LaZelle Milsap (GSW) – 7.1
Rebounds – Steve Respert (NEV) – 6.6
Blocks – BJ Watson (BKL) – 0.6
Steals – Bradley Brown (ATL) – 1.0
Efficiency – LaZelle Milsap (GSW) – 13.9

November Player of the Month – Axel Rancik, Oklahoma City Thunder – 30.9 points, 8.9 assists 38 rebounds, 2.0 steals and 1.0 block per game.

November Rookie of the Month – Lazelle Milsap, Golden State Warriors – 12.7 points, 7.1 assists, 2.9 rebounds, 0.5 steals and 0.2 blocks per game.

No trades this month so I’ll give you Tiburcio Tommasini’s stats for the first month –

28.2 points, 0.6 assists, 6.1 rebounds, 0.8 steals and 0.2 blocks. So yeah, he’s doing alright out there in Milwaukee.

As much as I want to keep all of our centre talent there just isn’t enough court time to go around so I trade one of them in what I honestly think is a steal.

Brooklyn trade:
C BJ Watson

Toronto trade:
SF Marshod Anderson

Winner – Brooklyn. Anderson is a fantastic scorer but has topped out as not much else while BJ Watson was the number one pick last draft and stil has plenty of growing to do. Right now it’s a win for the Nets but that could change in the future.

It was a toss up between Watson and Salvador Rios but the Raptors wanted Watson so it was him. Anderson is a very similar to Tiburcio Tommasini without the defence.

We actually play the Raptors in our next game and we wallop them 136-95 on their home court. Marshod was fantastic and had no mercy for his old team with 29 points while Marlin Bain added 20 points, 12 rebounds and 5 steals. BJ Watson only played 11 minutes but I’m sure he’s get more while the season continues. Josh Mayes led Toronto with 27 points.

Brooklyn Nets 9-4

Even though Cort had 28 points and 11 assists and Ken and Marshod added 48 points it was all paltry compared to Cliff Havens. In the Riders’ 137-126 win over us he went 18/29 for 47 points as they shot 58% from the field. It was amazing the way he scored, hitting 6 threes.

Brooklyn Nets 9-5

Ken and Cort combined to shoot 11/35 but our newbie had their backs with 30 points and 12 rebounds as we flog the Cavs 123-90. Sal had 12 points and 13 rebounds in 26 minutes off the bench and he better start soon as he is much better than Abel Williams (no offence Abel). Jamil Fleming had 20 points for the losers.

Brooklyn Nets 10-5

He starts the next game but didn’t play much as Rowan Taylor went berserk for 26 points but we still won, riding Marlin and Cort’s 57 points to win 129-109 over the Wizards. Nuh Shushud (best name ever) had 11 points in 14 minutes for us as well.

Brooklyn Nets 11-5

And now it starts as Nuh Shushud and Marshod Anderson have a go at each other after training which just isn’t on. I tell them to put a lid on it and surprisingly the both tell me to shove it which really isn’t the best thing to say to the person who can send them to no man’s land. We’ll see how it develops.

In a surprisingly low scoring game, we won every quarter really, really easily to take the game from Philly 96-73. They shot 36% from the field with their starters going 17/61 as their top scorer was Chris Canal (remember him?) with 12 points. Marlin was our best with 21 points and 13 rebounds but everyone got a run which was nice.

Brooklyn Nets 12-5

We really shouldn’t be losing to Memphis even with Reggie Smith. Especially when Reggie Smith goes 4/21 from the field. But we do, losing the last quarter 41-26 to let the game slip away 102-96. Devan Gross had 18 points and 10 assists for the victors while Marshod was our best with 33 points.

Brooklyn Nets 12-6

Our starters plus Curtis Anderson combine for all by eight points as we smash the Celtics in the third term (25-9) to win the game 117-92. That’s right, our starters plus Curtis had 113 points, led by Kenneth Long’s 24 points and 10 rebounds. Hell, Marlin had 15 points and 5 rebounds in all of 10 minutes before fouling out. Julius Hobbs, who moved to Boston in the off season for the MLE had 19 points and 13 rebounds.

Brooklyn Nets 13-6

We have a five day break which is insane because we’re going to pay for it later on in the year but we have no excuse to lose with that much of a break. Luckily we do win, this time a 125-90 drubbing of Chicago. Cort leads the way with 37 points while Marshod is really earning his keep with 29 points. Curtis Anderson isn’t liking it though, he finally thought he would start a season. DJ Forbes had 22 points, 9 rebounds and 7 rebounds for the Bulls.

Brooklyn Nets 14-6

The Jazz are playing well so far this season at 20-7 but we are at another level at home and we beat them handsomely 123-90. Marshod had 27 points while Sal is back on the bench for some reason but still put up 16 points and 10 rebounds. I need to have a talk with Coach Lane. Nathaniel Jackson, the superstar for the Jazz, only had 12 points which usually means doom for Utah.

Brooklyn Nets 15-6

It’s our first battle against TT and the Bucks but they are no match for us as we stamp them out 114-99. TT only had 17 points to Marshod’s 24 points while Marlin (31 points, 12 rebounds), Sal (10 points, 10 rebounds) and Abel (ditto) doubled up. Michael Taylor was the best for the losers with 28 points.

Brooklyn Nets 16-6

It was a bloodbath as we win our fifth in a row as we shot 55% from the field and hit 39 free throws to beat the Lakers 136-112. Ken and Cort combined for 32 points, 19 assists and 10 rebounds as JB and Sal combined for 30 points. Lars Ray is still plugging along for LA and had 16 points.

Brooklyn Nets 17-6

Two bad things happened in our game against the Bulls – Damon Ashburn went berserk for 28 points and 15 rebounds as we give up a 40-18 last quarter to lose 118-104, and the other was Nuh Shushud went off at Marshod Anderson and he’s gone. I warned him but he didn’t listen so he is so traded. Cort had 28 points on 28 shots.

Brooklyn Nets 17-7

In a surprising move, the Bobcats agree to trade their first round pick for Shushud as they aren’t exactly playoff material at the moment.

Our last game of the month and 2036 goes swimmingly as we hand the Nuggets another loss behind Marshod Anderson’s 40 points with a score of 111-103. The rest of the team was good but when Marshod shoots 16/22 it’s all about him. Jehiel DeSantis had 21 points for the vanquished.

Brooklyn Nets 18-7

We did much better that month but the Heat wiped the floor with the rest of the league, going 11-1 and that loss was on the last day of the month. The Heat are 23-5 while Indiana are 23-10 in third spot. Charlotte are at the bottom (good for us) at 6-30 and hopefully they stay there.

The Thunder are redonkulous so far, putting up a stellar record of 23-1, six games ahead of the 23-7 Wolves who are finally doing something. San Antonio, the team everyone thought would suck, suck at 9-24.

Brooklyn Top Points
Marshod Anderson – 28.8 (including Toronto numbers)
Cort Majishun – 20.9
Kenneth Long – 17.2

Brooklyn Top Assists
Cort Majishun – 8.0
Kenneth Long – 6.2
Curtis Anderson – 3.6

Brooklyn Top Rebounds
Marlin Bain – 8.3
Salvador Rios – 7.2
Abel Williams – 7.0

First Round of NBA Draft Prospects
1. C Chad DeWitt (High School), Senior, 6’10”, 277lbs
2. C John Meliet (Colorado), Sophomore, 6’9”, 264lbs
3. C Kevin Morrison (Nevada), Freshman, 6’11”, 269lbs
4. SF Alvin Fife (Kent State), Freshman, 6’7”, 222lbs
5. PG Mack Haston (High School), Senior, 6’2”, 172lbs

Thoughts – The first high schooler to really make a dent is a good one. In fact, I’m calling it right now that DeWitt will be the number one pick this draft. He’s that good already, averaging 31 points and 14 rebounds so far. Haston is another one putting up gaudy numbers in high school, going for 32 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists.

December Player of the Month – Tiburcio Tommasini, Milwaukee Bucks – 35.1 points, 6.3 rebounds, 1.4 assists, 1.6 steals and 0.2 blocks per game.

December Rookie of the Month – Steve Respert, Nevada Neon – 16.7 points, 7.4 rebounds, 1.0 assist, 0.3 steals and 0.0 blocks per game.

No decent trades again as the only one worth mentioning is New York traded their first rounder for Ahmad Kamara, so not very exciting.

It’s so, so, so good to beat the Pacers even if Ish Faye is a broken wreck with another injury (this time a broken finger). We smash them behind Marshod’s 25 points and 8 rebounds to win 108-81. Cort may have only had 3 points but he helped out with 16 assists while Abel had his best game, going 8/11 for 17 points and 12 rebounds. Michael Harmon was the only Pacer in double digits with 34 points.

Brooklyn Nets 19-7

Abel Williams did strain an abdomen muscle and will be out for around 10 days so Sal is going to start for him.

Another great defensive game as we hold the Blazers to under 90 points to take the game 109-82. Marshod shot badly for 23 points while Marlin shot well for 20 points and 13 rebounds so that all levels out. Ben Herrion, my old player, led the Blazers with 21 points. Good to see him starting on a team even if Portland are terrible.

Brooklyn Nets 20-7

We hold another team under 100 points by going on a 40-24 first quarter run to beat the Hornets 114-95. Marshod had 26 points, 8 rebounds and 4 steals while Cort and Ken combined for 49 points so our big three did the damage tonight. Jerry Benton is flying his flag on a sinking ship as the Hornets desperately need a clean out and had 14 points and 12 rebounds.

Brooklyn Nets 21-7

I probably should have done a write up about the Knicks trading away their first round pick because at 9-22 before tonight’s game it should be a high one. Especially when we score 50 points in the last quarter to beat them 122-90. Marshod is much, much better than I thought he would be as I thought he was just putting up numbers on a bad team but he’s doing that here with 37 points and 8 rebounds. Cort nearly had a triple double with 20 points, 13 assists and 9 rebounds while Ken and Marlin also doubled up. What I thought was cool is that with the injury to Abel Williams and a case of food poisoning to Sal, Luigi got the start next to Marlin and had 14 points and 5 rebounds. Great job man! Marques Jones led for the Knicks with 22 points while Chris Jones went 1/9. Ouch.

Brooklyn Nets 22-7

That was the start of a horror eight games in nine days Hell Week so hopefully we aren’t too tired after the end. Our next stop is Cleveland where we shoot 42% from the field to lose 116-107. Jamil Fleming had 22 points for the Cavs while Art Stevenson probably should have shot more, going 6/7 for 12 points and 9 rebounds and he just keeps getting better with age. Marshod shot woefully for 32 points while there were a couple of 17s with Marlin having 17 points and 17 rebounds while Cort added 17 assists.

Brooklyn Nets 22-8

We don’t let the loss get us down, beating up the Sonics up there 117-103 as Marshod continued his high scoring outputs with 29 points. Ken had 18 points while Cort has been much more of a distributor with 9 points and 15 assists. Keith Chapman, who I think is really underrated, had 22 points, 8 rebounds and 5 blocks in the loss.

Brooklyn Nets 23-8

I still cannot believe that the Thunder are 31-2 on the season as they come and visit us. Wait, make that 31-3 as we stomp all over their pride with a 114-97 win. Marlin was great with 25 points and 14 rebounds while Luigi still starts and had 18 points and 7 rebounds. I seem to really know how to draft centres. Anyway, Cort had 19 assists as well. Axel Rancik continued his fine form with 26 points and 9 assist while Zan Tepavac added 27 points and 10 rebounds but their leader Mike Bickerstaf only had 11 points.

Brooklyn Nets 24-8

For some unknown reason we shoot 32% from the field to get spanked by the lowly Pistons 106-92. Jamie McMillian is making a real name for himself in his second year and had 23 points and 10 rebounds and even fouled Marlin out in only 11 minutes. Marshod was our best with 19 points while Sal added 11 points and 11 rebounds.

Brooklyn Nets 24-9

It’s back to our winning ways with a 114-96 victory over the Heat Abel was great with 19 points and 14 rebounds and he’s really making it hard to put Sal in the starting line-up. Speaking of Sal, he had 20 points in 20 minutes. Schuyler Vanderwerken was held to only 10 points while Lou Beck was equally disappointing with 15 points on 7/18 shooting.

Brooklyn Nets 25-9

It was Cort’s turn to blast our opposition as our leader had 25 points and 9 assists to demolish the Hawks 119-102. It was good he did well because Michael McQuay was on fire with 40 points and 8 rebounds. Ken added 22 points to offset the slightly off night of Marshod who had 19 points.

Brooklyn Nets 26-9

Damn this Hell Week is going for a long time and looking at the schedule it’s going to keep going. That’s probably why we lost to the average Sixers 119-116 as we didn’t have any gas left in the tank at the end. Marshod went 15/21 for 41 points but most of those were in the first half. Padorin Ivelitsch is finally, FINALLY getting some playing time and had 23 points. It’s great to see someone give him a chance and he’s paying off.

Brooklyn Nets 26-10

The Heat thought they could get their revenge and even though Lou Beck had 36 points we still beat them to the tune of 116-95. Cort was the reason why with 27 points and 12 assists as we shot 52% to their 41%. As everyone says, defence wins championships.

Brooklyn Nets 27-10

It’s strange to see the Celtics doing fairly well this season as they have been bad for so long but that doesn’t mean they beat us as we win every quarter to take the game 116-100. Marshod exploded for 37 points and 7 rebounds while Daniel Roma, the barely used PF had 10 points in 15 minutes off the bench. My old draftee Julius Hobbs led Boston with 24 points and 12 rebounds.

Brooklyn Nets 28-10

There were a few standouts in our 122-99 win over the Sonics with Cort leading the way with 23 points, 10 assists and 7 rebounds while Marshod and Luigi added 51 points between them and Abel added 15 rebounds off the bench. Having Marlin, Luigi, Abel and Sal as our front court is such a good thing but I don’t think that it will be that way for the future as it will stunt Sal’s progression.

Brooklyn Nets 29-10

It was a track meet against Nevada with 14 total players in double digits as we end the race in first place with a 130-121 win. Marshod is becoming that reliable high scorer that we needed with 39 points while Marlin and Cort doubled up. Phillip Rude and Leroy Nolan, two players I traded from Brooklyn, had 52 points together.

Brooklyn Nets 30-10

The wins just keep rolling in as we torch the Rockets 110-97 behind Marshod’s 26 points and Marlin’s 20 points and 15 rebounds. Cort chipped in 18 points, 11 assists and 7 rebounds as well while Cameron Brown had 21 points and 7 assists for the losers. That’s five wins in a row for those playing at home.

Brooklyn Nets 31-10

Even though we beat the Nuggets 116-97 behind Cort and Marshod’s 19 points each there was a scary moment when Luigi went up for a rebound and got slightly undercut (not deliberately) by Jason Harriman and landed hard on his shoulder. From first glance it looked horrible but the doctors told me that it was just bruised and he will only be injured for around two weeks which is a huge relief. Seriously, the noise when he hit the floor could have been heard a mile away. Anyway, Jason Harriman and Leon Oliver had 46 points and 17 rebounds for the Nuggets.

Brooklyn Nets 32-10

Our last game of the month, finally, isn’t a game at all as we stampede over the Pistons 133-93. Marshod led the way with 28 points but everyone on the team got a go and scored at least four points which is always great to see. There was no repeat performance from Jamie McMillian who only had 15 points to lead Detroit.

Brooklyn Nets 33-10

We’ve hit the lead after that great but long month with Miami faltering a little to sit at 33-14 with Washington right behind them at 30-13. I can’t believe how bad the Bobcats are going this season at 7-42 and to make matters worse I stole their first round pick this draft so they won’t even have that to improve.

The Thunder have faltered a little as well but are still well ahead in the West at 38-5 with Minnesota at 34-9 and Dallas at 27-9 trying to keep up. Seattle aren’t as bad as Charlotte but they are still pretty darn terrible at 10-30.

Brooklyn Top Points
Marshod Anderson – 28.2
Cort Majishun – 19.4
Kenneth Long – 16.1

Brooklyn Top Assists
Cort Majishun – 9.2
Kenneth Long – 5.7
Curtis Anderson – 3.1

Brooklyn Top Rebounds
Marlin Bain – 9.1
Abel Williams – 6.9
Salvador Rios – 6.3

League Leaders
Points – Tiburcio Tommasini (MIL) – 32.2
Assists – Michael Harmon (IND) – 11.1
Rebounds – Damon Ashburn (CHI) – 11.0
Blocks – Keith Chapman (SEA) – 2.5
Steals – Michael Harmon (IND) – 2.7
Efficiency – Michael Harmon (IND) – 30.8

Rookie Leaders
Points – Steve Respert (NEV) – 13.9

Rebounds – Steve Respert (NEV) – 6.6
Blocks – BJ Watson (TOR) – 1.2
Steals – LaZelle Milsap (GSW) – 0.9
Efficiency – LaZelle Milsap (GSW) – 13.9

If you’re wondering how BJ Watson is going, he’s doing well. He’s now starting for the Raptors and really making strides with averages on the season of 8.0ppg, 4.7rpg and 1.2bpg. Not mind blowing but there is potential there to be a top centre in the league.

Second Round of NBA Draft Prospects
1. C Chad DeWitt (High School), Senior, 6’10”, 277lbs
2. C John Meliet (Colorado), Sophomore, 6’9”, 264lbs
3. SG Nathan Gordon (Marquette), Sophomore, 6’8”, 208lbs
4. C Kevin Morrison (Nevada), Freshman, 6’11”, 269lbs
5. C Jeffrey Johnson (Georgia Tech), Sophomore, 6’10”, 278lbs

Thoughts – Yep, DeWitt is still on top and that’s impressive because this draft looks really good. Not as many SFs and PFs that would tickle your fancy but if you’re on the look out for a PG, SG or C then you’re in luck.

January Player of the Month – Michael Harmon, Indiana Pacers – 30.1 points, 4.0 rebounds, 10.4 assists, 3.0 steals and 0.6 blocks per game.

January Rookie of the Month – LaZelle Milsap, Golden State Warriors – 11.9 points, 2.9 rebounds, 6.4 assists, 1.2 steals and 0.1 blocks per game.

Finally, a decent trade. Not mind blowing but still alright.

Golden State trade:
SF Zygmunt Lubelsky

Orlando trade:
C Benjamin Capel
2037 2nd round pick

Winner – Orlando. Capel was taken number one in 2031 ahead of guys like Cliff Havens, DJ Forbes, Keith Chapman, Lou Beck and on and on and on. He’s been a massive bust with the guys in his class and he’s not even going to be starting, backing up Akin Feaster. Lubelsky has a sore foot but when he gets back he’ll make a fine back up for Juia Henchoz.

Golden State trade:
SF Ali Riley

Cleveland trade:
SG Oskar Carlsson
2037 2nd round pick

Winner – Golden State. It’s crazy to think that Carlsson is now 39 years old and still only in his seventh season. I guess he was the best Carlsson brother, winning multiple DPoY awards and helping the Cavs out. Too bad Cleveland traded him for a bloated contract that won’t help the team’s play while Carlsson is an expiring for a mid bench player at best.

Great, not only do we get blown out by the Warriors 103-89 were we shot 39% from the field, Cort sprains his ankle and will be out of action for two weeks! There wasn’t anything to write home about on our side as Chris Horvath and Apolinary Dembowski went 20/31 for 54 points.

Brooklyn Nets 33-11

Matias will fill in for Cort.

Phew, luckily the Bobcats are horrible the year to get our confidence back as we humiliate them 120-72. Everyone played at least 10 minutes with eight players in double digits, led by Matias’ 18 points. Derrick Culuko was a lone highlight for Charlotte with 17 points and 12 rebounds.

Brooklyn Nets 34-11

The Celtics are a different kettle of fish but the result was still the same, a 126-106 blowout here in Brooklyn. Marlin was outstanding with 34 points and 12 rebounds while Matias is enjoying his starting role with 21 points on 6/6 shooting. Alan Patton has really taken that step up to be a All Star candidate (averaging a shade under 20ppg) and had 19 points tonight.

Brooklyn Nets 35-11

Another game in February, another game of 120+ points for us as we steamroll the Grizzlies 126-101. Marshod, Marlin and Ken combined for 68 points while Matias went 8/9 for 19 points and 12 assists and more importantly, zero turnovers. Reggie Smith is really hating it in Memphis and his night wouldn’t have made him much happier, going 4/17 for 17 points and 11 rebounds.

Brooklyn Nets 36-11

The Mavericks might be old but they are still a top team, especially now with Tobe Slaughter on the squad. It didn’t matter to us as we seem to be invincible at home as we torch them 129-107. Marshod went to town on Jack Dawkins with 43 points while Kenneth Long added 28 points of his own. Matias may have gone back to the bench as Cort is fit enough to at least play a little bit but that didn’t stop Matias from having 16 points and 12 assists in only 19 minutes. He’s really playing well with Cort injured. Jack fired back with 16 points, 10 assists and 9 rebounds but Tobe Slaughter who is usually 61% FG shooter (which simply isn’t fair for us mortals) was kept to only 9/22 shooting for 22 points.

Brooklyn Nets 37-11

It seems that we’re pretty good away from Brooklyn as well as we withstood a 60 point hammering from Nathaniel Jackson and David Stetson so win 117-107. It wasn’t a 120+ game but it’ll do. Ken was the star, going 16/16 from the stripe on his way to 32 points while holding RT Adams to a goose egg from nine shots. Luigi piped up with 17 points off the bench.

Brooklyn Nets 38-11

Our last game before the All Star break was another easy one against the Bobcats as Ken put up 30 points and 9 rebounds to lead us to a 104-87 win. Cort is slowly getting better and had 10 points and 12 assists but his shooting hasn’t got there yet at 3/10. Derrick Culuko is having fun in Charlotte despite the losses and had 20 points and 10 rebounds tonight.

Brooklyn Nets 39-11

Not only did I actually have a participant in the Slam Dunk Contest, he actually won it! That’s right, Marshod Anderson came from second place in the first round to beat out Phoenix’s Darnell Kimbrough in the final. Marshod backed it up in the Long Distance Shootout but was eliminated in the first round. Seattle’s Jason London (that’s right he’s been traded again, check out next month’s report) won the final, beating Tiburcio Tommasini and Jaymes Kincaid.

Both Luigi and Sal made it to the Rookie/Sophomore game but were ineffective, only playing eight minutes each. They missed out on a good game though as MVP Paul Gilbert had 29 points to lead the second year guys to a 150-136 win. Ely Campbell, the second rounder that could also had 29 points but Ben Angeli nearly stole the show with 25 points in only 15 minutes off the bench. BJ Watson led the first year guys with 26 points, 9 rebounds and 4 blocks while LaZelle Milsap added 14 points and 17 assists in a losing effort.

In the All Star game, the West held a three point lead at quarter time but after that it was all the East. They won the second 44-23 and the last 54-33 to take the game extremely easily 162-120. Frank Slaughter hit eight threes to take home the All Star MVP award with 30 points and 8 assists as nine East players were in double figures. We had Marshod and Cort represent Brooklyn and they combined for 27 points. Nathaniel Jackson led the West with 25 points with Jack Dawkins backing him up with 23 points off the bench. This game was spectacular on one end as the East truly dominated.

David Stetson, Utah Jazz (Second Appearance)
Apolinary Dembowski, Golden State Warriors (First Appearance)

Our first game back from the All Star break was a pretty simple one, Cort had 21 assists, Marshod added 28 points and Marlin had 22 points and 10 rebounds in only 28 minutes. The reason he played only 28 minutes is that he BROKE HIS FREAKING ANKLE and will be out for a while. Dammit, that guy just can’t stay healthy. Oh yeah, we beat the Raptors 131-105 as Flavian Pesmazoglou led them with 22 points but BJ Watson had a shocker, going 3/10 for 8 points and 5 turnovers.

Brooklyn Nets 40-11

Sal will slot into the starting line-up for Marlin.

Wow, talk about a blowout. The Mavericks are so much better at their place which was shown by their dismantling of us 148-126. That’s right, they nearly scored 150 on us. Tobe Slaughter was of course the high man with 27 points but they shot 59% from the field, 55% from three and hit 32 free throws. Every Mav that played had at least six points with Jack Dawkins backing up Slaughter with 23 points and 7 assists. Our best was Marshod with 28 points and 126 is a good score but not tonight.

Brooklyn Nets 40-12

We haven’t lost two straight games since games two and three of the season and we don’t do it here as we withstand a fightback from the Kings to win 118-111. Marshod and Ken combined for 60 points while Sal added 11 points and 3 blocks as his slowly fitting into the starting centre position. Diego Acosta led Sac-Town with 28 points but their two stars in Joe Adras and Jaymes Kincaid were held to 28 points between them.

Brooklyn Nets 41-12

It’s a little saddening that Michael McQuay hasn’t made it to an NBA Finals and the furthest he has ben is an ECF once. Other than that he’s only made it to the second round. Marshod Anderson doesn’t care for McQuay and dropped 32 points and 9 rebounds as we ream the Hawks 131-101. Luigi filled in for Abel who had foul trouble guarding McQuay and did well with 21 points and 7 rebounds, before fouling out guarding McQuay. Atlanta’s star wasn’t that great with only 22 points and 3 rebounds but he was always getting fouled.

Brooklyn Nets 42-12

Our last game of February is a 121-108 win over New Orleans as Marshod and Ken combined for 54 points. Just like last game, Luigi filled in for a starter and did well with 17 points as Sal fouled out trying to guard Jerry Benton. And like last game, Luigi also fouled out trying to guard Jerry Benton. Benton is the only decent player on the Hornets as Vlado Prazina and John Nemitz are just too old to contribute anything so Benton has to shoulder all the load and had 28 points and 4 blocks tonight.

Brooklyn Nets 43-12

Just as I said that, the next night Vlado Prazina went 16/27 from the field and 13/18 from three for 49 points, 8 assists, 7 rebounds and 3 steals to show the world he still has plenty left in the tank. I’ll just shut my mouth then.

Another quality month has put us further out in front as Washington is now five games behind us with Miami a game back from them so we are starting to assert out dominance on the East. Charlotte are not, as they haven’t even won ten games yet at 9-52 and it seems I’m leaving the Nets in a great position.

The Thunder are slipping from their ungodly start but are still the best team in the league at 47-11 but Dallas are right behind them at 43-11 and if OKC aren’t careful they might lose home court advantage. San Antonio are last at 16-42.

Third Round of NBA Draft Prospects
1. C Chad DeWitt (High School), Senior, 6’10”, 277lbs
2. C Jeffrey Johnson (Georgia Tech), Sophomore, 6’10”, 278lbs
3. C Kevin Morrison (Nevada), Freshman, 6’11”, 269lbs
4. C John Meliet (Colorado), Sophomore, 6’9”, 264lbs
5. PF Edwin Williams (High School), Senior, 6’10”, 224lbs

Thoughts – Blah, blah, DeWitt is on top with many big men following him and it’s going to be a good draft. I want to talk about PF Buck Mason who is a rebounding prodigy. Think Dennis Rodman from those Michael Jordan teams 40 years ago. His rebounding talents, because even though Mason can rebound, defend and not score to save himself, his physique is completely opposite to Rodman. Introducing Buck Mason, the 6’4”, 310lb PF who is in no way fat, he’s just a solid piece of meat that cannot be moved. Should be interesting to see who takes a chance on him as he’s #15 on the big board.

February Player of the Month – Jason London, Seattle Supersonics – 33.0 points, 4.7 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 1.1 steals and 0.8 blocks per game.

February Rookie of the Month – LaZelle Milsap, Golden State Warriors – 12.4 points, 3.1 rebounds, 7.9 assists, 1.2 steals and 0.2 blocks per game.

Finally there were some decent trades at the deadline after almost no movement during the season.

Milwaukee trade:
C Charles Robinson
2037 2nd round pick

Memphis trade:
SG Devan Gross

Winner – Milwaukee. This isn’t much of a trade as both players are overpayed and Gross is the better player but I wanted to note Robinson’s shooting percentage. In seven years in the league while having a 12.2 point career average, he shoots the ball for his career at 73.3%. That’s right, nearly three quarters, for his career on field goals. Three years ago he shot 81.5% and his lowest shooting year was last season at ‘only’ 69.7%. As you can probably expect, he’s the highest shooter of all time by a long way.

Indiana trade:
SG Davin Arthurs
SF Germaine Jefferson

Golden State trade:
C Benjamin Capel
2037 2nd round pick

Winner – Neither. The Warriors get nothing but useless salary for a decent player in Capel while the Pacers now have five dedicated centres and nine players on their depth chart that can play the position. So I ask, why?

Oklahoma City trade:
C Chris Dobbins
PF Jerry Leis

Atlanta trade:
C Chris Benjamin
2037 2nd round pick

Winner – Oklahoma City. Even though Dobbins and Leis are quality expirings (and nothing else), Benjamin is a starting caliber player who will definitely fit next to Zan Tepavac.

Minnesota trade:
PF Ben Jones
SG Ron Murphy
C Pat Whitmore

Philadelphia trade:
PF Jesse Rucker
2037 2nd round pick

Winner – Minnesota. Similar to the last deal as Philly get some expiring contracts, Rucker is worth more than this especially with his team option for next season. He slots into the starting PF position and should do well.

Washington trade:
SG Jason London

Seattle trade:
SF Hayletts Wilcox
2037 2nd round pick

Winner – Washington. London is averaging nearly 31ppg on unearthly percentages while Wilcox isn’t even starting and the Wizards still in this deal. London has a terrible habit of destroying team chemistry and this will be no different. The fans of the Sonics will love his scoring outputs (had 50 points in his first game as a Sonic) but their enthusiasm will turn to hatred as their team drops like a stone all because of this man. Avoid.

After a little break we go into beast mode, smashing the Bulls 143-91 with a highest lead of 55 points. Marshod was the high minute man with only 31 minutes but still had 25 points while Sal added 20 points and 13 rebounds. Eight Nets were in double figures and everyone scored at least once. Patrick Blizzard was the best for Chicago with 20 points but they were outclassed from the opening tip.

Brooklyn Nets 44-12

Marshod, Abel, Sal and Daniel Roma all had three blocks as we snuff out the Pistons 112-81 behind our defence. It seems that Sal is enjoying his starting role with 12 points and 18 rebounds to go with those blocks while Ken top scored with 23 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists. Jamie McMillian was the only hope for Detroit with 18 points.

Brooklyn Nets 45-12

The Knicks haven’t made it out of the second round of the playoffs since I was there which just goes to show you how bad they have played since I left. Which makes me feel pretty good about myself. Cort nearly has a triple double with 26 points, 12 assists and 9 rebounds as we heap on more misery with a 115-89 win. Ken and Marshod add 23 points each. Brandon Meade, the barely used bench guy led the Knicks with 18 points off the bench.

Brooklyn Nets 46-12

Marshod, Ken and Cort combine for 69 points and we get out to a 16 point first quarter lead. After that term, it was all Cleveland as Jamil Fleming put up a triple double with 29 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists to lead them to a 121-106 win. Art Stevenson chipped in with 19 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists as they shot 51% to our 45%.

Brooklyn Nets 46-13

Again we don’t drop two in a row as we flog the Sixers 114-87. Cort went off for 29 points and 9 assists while Marshod and Sal combined for 36 points and 22 rebounds to put Philly in their place. Jamaal Lewis was the only decent player for them with 13 points and 13 rebounds.

Brooklyn Nets 47-13

Our big guys are dropping like flies with Luigi joining Marlin in street clothes as he broke his hand and will be out for who knows how long. We beat the Magic in the game 101-94 with Marshod hitting 33 points but we only have Daniel Roma and sometimes John Brown as potential big men for at least three weeks. Great. Shaun Tebbs led Orlando with 20 points and 9 assists but Juia Henchoz was held to only 4/14 shooting.

Brooklyn Nets 48-13

I sign free agent Joe Moore for the rest of the season to bridge the gap.

We promptly lose 106-96 to Houston as Abel Williams, Sal and Joe all get into foul trouble which doomed us. Andy Kante took full advantage with 25 points and 13 rebounds as was helped by fellow big man Charles Dubbs who had 25 points as well. Marshod was our best with 26 points but we shot 41% to their 54%.

Brooklyn Nets 48-14

Abel Williams finally had his best game, the game everyone knew he could produce with 30 points, 10 rebounds and 7 steals to lead our 122-85 win. We outscored the Riders 26-9 in the first quarter to take all the fizz out of the game. Cort had 29 points. San Diego had six players in double figures but their top scorer, Murray Cornette, only had 12 points. Cluff Havens was held to 2 points.

Brooklyn Nets 49-14

Oh my God. After his 26 points and 12 rebounds, Abel has gone down with a sprained ankle. That means our three best big men are now currently in suits. Luckily the game was over pretty soon as Cort had 30 points and 11 assists as we beat the Sixers 120-91. Even Joe Moore played 23 minutes for 10 points and we are in trouble at the minute. Russell Haymon led Philly with 20 points and 13 assists.

Brooklyn Nets 50-14

Joe Moore has been thrust in the starting line up at PF. We have literally no depth on our bench apart from Daniel Roma.

Joe did alright in his first start with 12 points and 4 blocks but was outclassed by Zan Tepavac who had 29 points and 10 rebounds. Luckily for us Marshod finished with 34 points and 9 rebounds to lead us to a 113-104 win over OKC. Sal, Ken and Curtis matched Joe with 12 points as Mike Bickerstaf was held to only 13 points and Axel Rancik only had 20 points so our defence did the job.

Brooklyn Nets 51-14

Even though we were leading pretty comfortably against Orlando, our 25-13 last quarter sealed the deal as we win 117-96. Marshod might have top scored in the game with 27 points but it was Cort who was the star with 26 points, 8 rebounds and 8 assists. Joe did well with 9 points and 10 rebounds. Juia Henchoz had 25 points and I’m really proud of the way he has grown into a top tier player in the league.

Brooklyn Nets 52-14

Cort and Lou Beck had a fight, with both players having 33 points but the winner had 11 assists and went 12/17 compared to the losers’ 11/26. Unfortunately Cort was the loser and even a fightback in the last couldn’t stop us going down to Miami 117-114. Marshod had 27 points while Tip Smith for the Heat had 17 points, 11 rebounds and 6 assists.

Brooklyn Nets 52-15

Well that was interesting, we shoot 61% from the field with Marshod, Ken and Sal combining for 75 points as they nearly outscored the Raptors themselves to win 140-77. Sal was our best with 22 points and 15 rebounds while Matias and Ryan Lemeke had 21 points on 7/10 shooting off the bench. BJ Watson led Toronto with 15 points but this game was over at the start as we won every quarter by at 10 points and our biggest lead was 64 points.

Brooklyn Nets 53-15

Minnesota are on a tear since they added Jesse Rucker but we didn’t give them any favours to get out to a 24 point lead. To their credit the Wolves came back, right back to level it but we held our nerve to win 112-108. Marshod had 27 points before fouling out with Cort and Ken combined for an even 50 points. Abel is back in the starting five and even though his scoring touch wasn’t quite back (3 points) he did finish with 15 rebounds. Camah Williams is having a career year which is massive for him and had 26 points and 16 assists while my old draftee in Randy Canal had 20 points and 8 rebounds.

Brooklyn Nets 54-15

Another close game as our battle with Golden State went into overtime at 104 apiece but we turned on the jets in the extra time to win 125-111 after a 21-7 last five minutes. Cort was electric with 28 points and 10 assists while it was Ken and Marshod’s turn to put up an even 50 points. Four Warriors had double doubles with Maurice Marlow (20 points, 11 rebounds), Apolinary Dembowski (13 points, 10 rebounds), Neil Prato (14 points, 10 rebounds) and LaZelle Milsap (10 points, 14 assists) which is something you don’t see everyday.

Brooklyn Nets 55-15

Our last game is against another 50 win team but it didn’t go the way of the Minnesota game as Rowan Taylor shot 12/14 from the field and 10/10 from the stripe for 34 points and we went down 117-105 to Washington. Brian Caldwell had 21 points and 13 rebounds as well for the Wizards. Marshod played a lone hand for us with 35 points and 11 rebounds as Ken and Cort combined to shoot 9/39 from the floor.

Brooklyn Nets 55-16

With eleven games to go in the season we are only two games ahead of the Wizards who are at 54-20 while Miami aren’t that far behind either at 49-25. One team that is very far away is Charlotte who are just waiting for the off season at 12-63.

We’re closing in on OKC who are slipping at 57-12, while Dallas are right behind us at 54-18. Minnesota are excellent at 51-21 and are a force to be reckoned with. San Antonio are still at the bottom but not the worst team in the league at 21-51.

Brooklyn Top Points
Marshod Anderson – 27.0
Cort Majishun – 18.8
Kenneth Long – 17.3

Brooklyn Top Assists
Cort Majishun – 8.9
Kenneth Long – 5.5
Curtis Anderson – 2.7

Brooklyn Top Rebounds
Marlin Bain – 9.0
Abel Williams – 7.0
Salvador Rios – 6.5

League Leaders
Points – Tiburcio Tommasini (MIL) – 30.2
Assists – Michael Harmon (IND) – 10.9
Rebounds – Reggie Smith (MEM) – 11.8
Blocks – Ish Faye (IND) – 2.4
Steals – Michael Harmon (IND) – 2.5
Efficiency – Michael Harmon (IND) – 29.1

Rookie Leaders
Points – Steve Respert (NEV) – 15.6
Assists – LaZelle Milsap (GSW) – 7.1
Rebounds – Steve Respert (NEV) – 7.1
Blocks – BJ Watson (TOR) – 1.3
Steals – James Carroll (HOU) – 1.6
Efficiency – LaZelle Milsap (GSW) – 14.0

Last Round of NBA Draft Prospects
1. C Chad DeWitt (High School), Senior, 6’10”, 277lbs
2. C Jeffrey Johnson (Georgia Tech), Sophomore, 6’10”, 278lbs
3. C John Meliet (Colorado), Sophomore, 6’9”, 264lbs
4. PF Edwin Williams (High School), Senior, 6’10”, 224lbs
5. C Kevin Morrison (Nevada), Freshman, 6’11”, 269lbs

Thoughts – It’s strange to see Morrison slip so low but on a disappointing Nevada team it was bound to happen with no help. Williams is a new face in the top five and this draft is starting to seem like a real good one for big men.
