January Player of the Month – Michael Harmon, Indiana Pacers – 30.1 points, 4.0 rebounds, 10.4 assists, 3.0 steals and 0.6 blocks per game.
January Rookie of the Month – LaZelle Milsap, Golden State Warriors – 11.9 points, 2.9 rebounds, 6.4 assists, 1.2 steals and 0.1 blocks per game.
Finally, a decent trade. Not mind blowing but still alright.
Golden State trade:
SF Zygmunt Lubelsky
Orlando trade:
C Benjamin Capel
2037 2nd round pick
Winner – Orlando. Capel was taken number one in 2031 ahead of guys like Cliff Havens, DJ Forbes, Keith Chapman, Lou Beck and on and on and on. He’s been a massive bust with the guys in his class and he’s not even going to be starting, backing up Akin Feaster. Lubelsky has a sore foot but when he gets back he’ll make a fine back up for Juia Henchoz.
Golden State trade:
SF Ali Riley
Cleveland trade:
SG Oskar Carlsson
2037 2nd round pick
Winner – Golden State. It’s crazy to think that Carlsson is now 39 years old and still only in his seventh season. I guess he was the best Carlsson brother, winning multiple DPoY awards and helping the Cavs out. Too bad Cleveland traded him for a bloated contract that won’t help the team’s play while Carlsson is an expiring for a mid bench player at best.
Great, not only do we get blown out by the Warriors 103-89 were we shot 39% from the field, Cort sprains his ankle and will be out of action for two weeks! There wasn’t anything to write home about on our side as Chris Horvath and Apolinary Dembowski went 20/31 for 54 points.
Brooklyn Nets 33-11
Matias will fill in for Cort.
Phew, luckily the Bobcats are horrible the year to get our confidence back as we humiliate them 120-72. Everyone played at least 10 minutes with eight players in double digits, led by Matias’ 18 points. Derrick Culuko was a lone highlight for Charlotte with 17 points and 12 rebounds.
Brooklyn Nets 34-11
The Celtics are a different kettle of fish but the result was still the same, a 126-106 blowout here in Brooklyn. Marlin was outstanding with 34 points and 12 rebounds while Matias is enjoying his starting role with 21 points on 6/6 shooting. Alan Patton has really taken that step up to be a All Star candidate (averaging a shade under 20ppg) and had 19 points tonight.
Brooklyn Nets 35-11
Another game in February, another game of 120+ points for us as we steamroll the Grizzlies 126-101. Marshod, Marlin and Ken combined for 68 points while Matias went 8/9 for 19 points and 12 assists and more importantly, zero turnovers. Reggie Smith is really hating it in Memphis and his night wouldn’t have made him much happier, going 4/17 for 17 points and 11 rebounds.
Brooklyn Nets 36-11
The Mavericks might be old but they are still a top team, especially now with Tobe Slaughter on the squad. It didn’t matter to us as we seem to be invincible at home as we torch them 129-107. Marshod went to town on Jack Dawkins with 43 points while Kenneth Long added 28 points of his own. Matias may have gone back to the bench as Cort is fit enough to at least play a little bit but that didn’t stop Matias from having 16 points and 12 assists in only 19 minutes. He’s really playing well with Cort injured. Jack fired back with 16 points, 10 assists and 9 rebounds but Tobe Slaughter who is usually 61% FG shooter (which simply isn’t fair for us mortals) was kept to only 9/22 shooting for 22 points.
Brooklyn Nets 37-11
It seems that we’re pretty good away from Brooklyn as well as we withstood a 60 point hammering from Nathaniel Jackson and David Stetson so win 117-107. It wasn’t a 120+ game but it’ll do. Ken was the star, going 16/16 from the stripe on his way to 32 points while holding RT Adams to a goose egg from nine shots. Luigi piped up with 17 points off the bench.
Brooklyn Nets 38-11
Our last game before the All Star break was another easy one against the Bobcats as Ken put up 30 points and 9 rebounds to lead us to a 104-87 win. Cort is slowly getting better and had 10 points and 12 assists but his shooting hasn’t got there yet at 3/10. Derrick Culuko is having fun in Charlotte despite the losses and had 20 points and 10 rebounds tonight.
Brooklyn Nets 39-11
Not only did I actually have a participant in the Slam Dunk Contest, he actually won it! That’s right, Marshod Anderson came from second place in the first round to beat out Phoenix’s Darnell Kimbrough in the final. Marshod backed it up in the Long Distance Shootout but was eliminated in the first round. Seattle’s Jason London (that’s right he’s been traded again, check out next month’s report) won the final, beating Tiburcio Tommasini and Jaymes Kincaid.
Both Luigi and Sal made it to the Rookie/Sophomore game but were ineffective, only playing eight minutes each. They missed out on a good game though as MVP Paul Gilbert had 29 points to lead the second year guys to a 150-136 win. Ely Campbell, the second rounder that could also had 29 points but Ben Angeli nearly stole the show with 25 points in only 15 minutes off the bench. BJ Watson led the first year guys with 26 points, 9 rebounds and 4 blocks while LaZelle Milsap added 14 points and 17 assists in a losing effort.
In the All Star game, the West held a three point lead at quarter time but after that it was all the East. They won the second 44-23 and the last 54-33 to take the game extremely easily 162-120. Frank Slaughter hit eight threes to take home the All Star MVP award with 30 points and 8 assists as nine East players were in double figures. We had Marshod and Cort represent Brooklyn and they combined for 27 points. Nathaniel Jackson led the West with 25 points with Jack Dawkins backing him up with 23 points off the bench. This game was spectacular on one end as the East truly dominated.

Our first game back from the All Star break was a pretty simple one, Cort had 21 assists, Marshod added 28 points and Marlin had 22 points and 10 rebounds in only 28 minutes. The reason he played only 28 minutes is that he BROKE HIS FREAKING ANKLE and will be out for a while. Dammit, that guy just can’t stay healthy. Oh yeah, we beat the Raptors 131-105 as Flavian Pesmazoglou led them with 22 points but BJ Watson had a shocker, going 3/10 for 8 points and 5 turnovers.
Brooklyn Nets 40-11
Sal will slot into the starting line-up for Marlin.
Wow, talk about a blowout. The Mavericks are so much better at their place which was shown by their dismantling of us 148-126. That’s right, they nearly scored 150 on us. Tobe Slaughter was of course the high man with 27 points but they shot 59% from the field, 55% from three and hit 32 free throws. Every Mav that played had at least six points with Jack Dawkins backing up Slaughter with 23 points and 7 assists. Our best was Marshod with 28 points and 126 is a good score but not tonight.
Brooklyn Nets 40-12
We haven’t lost two straight games since games two and three of the season and we don’t do it here as we withstand a fightback from the Kings to win 118-111. Marshod and Ken combined for 60 points while Sal added 11 points and 3 blocks as his slowly fitting into the starting centre position. Diego Acosta led Sac-Town with 28 points but their two stars in Joe Adras and Jaymes Kincaid were held to 28 points between them.
Brooklyn Nets 41-12
It’s a little saddening that Michael McQuay hasn’t made it to an NBA Finals and the furthest he has ben is an ECF once. Other than that he’s only made it to the second round. Marshod Anderson doesn’t care for McQuay and dropped 32 points and 9 rebounds as we ream the Hawks 131-101. Luigi filled in for Abel who had foul trouble guarding McQuay and did well with 21 points and 7 rebounds, before fouling out guarding McQuay. Atlanta’s star wasn’t that great with only 22 points and 3 rebounds but he was always getting fouled.
Brooklyn Nets 42-12
Our last game of February is a 121-108 win over New Orleans as Marshod and Ken combined for 54 points. Just like last game, Luigi filled in for a starter and did well with 17 points as Sal fouled out trying to guard Jerry Benton. And like last game, Luigi also fouled out trying to guard Jerry Benton. Benton is the only decent player on the Hornets as Vlado Prazina and John Nemitz are just too old to contribute anything so Benton has to shoulder all the load and had 28 points and 4 blocks tonight.
Brooklyn Nets 43-12
Just as I said that, the next night Vlado Prazina went 16/27 from the field and 13/18 from three for 49 points, 8 assists, 7 rebounds and 3 steals to show the world he still has plenty left in the tank. I’ll just shut my mouth then.
Another quality month has put us further out in front as Washington is now five games behind us with Miami a game back from them so we are starting to assert out dominance on the East. Charlotte are not, as they haven’t even won ten games yet at 9-52 and it seems I’m leaving the Nets in a great position.
The Thunder are slipping from their ungodly start but are still the best team in the league at 47-11 but Dallas are right behind them at 43-11 and if OKC aren’t careful they might lose home court advantage. San Antonio are last at 16-42.

Third Round of NBA Draft Prospects
1. C Chad DeWitt (High School), Senior, 6’10”, 277lbs
2. C Jeffrey Johnson (Georgia Tech), Sophomore, 6’10”, 278lbs
3. C Kevin Morrison (Nevada), Freshman, 6’11”, 269lbs
4. C John Meliet (Colorado), Sophomore, 6’9”, 264lbs
5. PF Edwin Williams (High School), Senior, 6’10”, 224lbs
Thoughts – Blah, blah, DeWitt is on top with many big men following him and it’s going to be a good draft. I want to talk about PF Buck Mason who is a rebounding prodigy. Think Dennis Rodman from those Michael Jordan teams 40 years ago. His rebounding talents, because even though Mason can rebound, defend and not score to save himself, his physique is completely opposite to Rodman. Introducing Buck Mason, the 6’4”, 310lb PF who is in no way fat, he’s just a solid piece of meat that cannot be moved. Should be interesting to see who takes a chance on him as he’s #15 on the big board.
