Some good performances by the 4 guys still playing (particularly when you consider they are in their mid-30's).

There really isn't many guys from their draft class still in the league so putting up those numbers are really impressive. There's BB King (HOU), Chris Canal (IND), Mike Bickerstaf (OKC) and Jaymes Kincaid (SAC) as the only other 15 year veterans still with contracts in the league.

2040 NBA Draft

I’ve got a few priorities in this draft. One, get either Tip Rice (unlikely) or Pin (more likely) and trade Jeffrey Johnson because he can’t stay healthy.

1 – Golden State – C Tip Rice
Whelp, that was expected. He’s the best player in the draft and the Warriors are right on the money.

Milwaukee offers me Jeff Seabrooks and #44 for Clifton Scholl and I accept. Clifton has been good for us but he’s got three years left on his contract while Seabrooks only has one.

2 – San Diego – SF Ryan Holcomb
He’s a little inconsistent but Holcomb is a lights out shooter and has unbelievable athleticism so he will fit right in with the Riders.

3 – Atlanta – PG Marcus Settles
This is a little surprising but his numbers don’t lie – nearly a triple double in college. This is a reach in any language but it’s not as bad as many think.

4 – Philadelphia – SG Eddy Wooley
The Sixers go for another reach and to make matters worse he doubles up with previous #1 pick Tom Julius. He’s a stocky guard that bullies other players (in a good way, using his strength) but he’ll struggle for a year or two before he really comes into his own.

5 – Phoenix – C Pin-zhen Yuan
It takes all of ten seconds for me to give my selection to the commissioner. This kid will be a superstar in my opinion. He’ll probably play in the D-League next season but after that, look out.

I go on the hunt to trade JJ for someone that doesn’t have glass bones. I almost pull out the steal of the century but grabbing Alan Patton from Boston but they back out at the last second so instead of going for the home run hit I shore up our roster.

Phoenix trade:
C Jeffrey Johnson
#19 pick

Milwaukee trade:
C Darryl Abrams
#12 pick

Winner – Milwaukee*. The asterisk is for Johnson’s health. He’s a quality player when he’s not in street clothes but going off last season that didn’t happen very often. Abrams isn’t as good but he’s a rock for a team, someone that can be relied on game after game.

6 – Nevada – SG Ben London
Hmm, this is a bit of a reach. He’s a sharpshooter that doesn’t do much else so drafting someone like that at #6 isn’t a good use of a #6 pick.

7 – Orlando – PF Gavin Harvey
One of the strongest, quickest players in the draft and believe me, that is a great combination. I really like his kid and I thought Nevada would have taken him. Good pick.

8 – Memphis – SF Denny Lawson
This kid can play. If only he had a decent motor in him he would be a star. If someone can light a fire under him (Jack Dawkins maybe?) this will be a major steal.

9 – Minnesota – SF Justin Marshall
Now this is a good pick. He may be 23 years old and that would have scared off a few teams but he has talent oozing out of his pores. This isn’t a good pick, it’s a great pick.

10 – Seattle – C Syniker Smalls
21 points and 16 rebounds a game for Smalls and he’s not even the best centre left in the green room. I’m not saying it’s a bad pick, quite the opposite as this is a great pick.

I have my eyes on one player and I don’t want the Lakers to nab him so I trade #12 and #44 for #11 and they accept.

11 – Phoenix – C Sam Russell
16 points, 16 rebounds and 5 blocks a game are monster numbers for this guy. He’s a senior so he doesn’t have the potential as others but I’m over the moon to get this defensive monster.

12 – Los Angeles – PF Herb Celuck
Another senior that will be a good player but never a superstar but at this stage that’s a pretty good compromise. Celuck will do well with the Lakers.

13 – Washington – PF Jon Przybilla
I can’t believe that he dropped so far. Well I can a little, because he seems to be what Nathaniel Jackson was when he was first drafted: a lazy, super raw, skinny PF who has a 75% chance of busting. Will he buck the trend like Jackson did? I hope he does but it’s unlikely.

14 – Oklahoma City – C Kelly Moreland
Yeah, this isn’t a good pick. I’m guessing the Thunder wanted either Russell or Smalls to drop to here but panicked and picked the next centre on the board. Moreland is not a lottery player.

15 – New Orleans – PF Lucas Summerall
Terrible passer and not the best defensive presence and to make matters worse they have up and coming young stud Buck Mason at PF as well so this is a head scratcher all around.

16 – Toronto – PG Steven Fletcher
A spot up shooter first, second and third. I don’t know why he’s classed as a PG because he’s a 6’2” SG and won’t be that good either. If they wanted a SG they should have gone with Ronald Nielsen who is still on the board for some reason.

17 – Chicago – SF Santo Tommasini
18 – Cleveland – PG Dan Rayner
19 – Milwaukee – PG Dennis Silva
20 – Sacramento – SG Ted Davis
21 – Denver – C Tony Peper
22 – Brooklyn – SG Patrick Marshall
23 – Utah – C Mark Burton
24 – Boston – SF Antonio Sears
25 – Brooklyn – SG Ronald Nielsen
26 – Miami – C Dario Silva
27 – Los Angeles – PF Kevin Crawford
28 – Boston – PF Steve Baxter
29 – Detroit – PF Kent Johnson
30 – Portland – PF James Jones
31 – San Antonio – PF Josh Venner
32 – Indiana – C Randy Saunders

Oh my, what crazy trades there were in the draft.

Portland trade:
SF Danny Perez

Toronto trade:
C Brian Caldwell
2040 2nd round pick

Winner – Toronto. This is an out and out steal by the Raptors and a pure salary dump by the Blazers. Caldwell is useless now and is only good for his $8 million expiring while Perez still has plenty left in the tank to put Toronto up to the next bracket.

Minnesota trade:
C Isiah Ryan

Brooklyn trade:
PG Cort Majishun

Winner – Minnesota. Even at 35 years old Majishun still has a bite that can get most teams. Ryan is an expiring that really isn’t worth someone like Majishun. The Nets are so far away from their threepeat team it’s not funny.

Nevada trade:
C Oliver Roe

Utah trade:
SG Ray Haymon
2040 2nd round pick

Winner – Utah. Roe is a good efficient player that might never be the best on his team but can give you that gritty toughness that glue guys often give. Haymon is only good for being a mid bench player at best.

Milwaukee trade:
SG Adonis Molnar

Oklahoma City trade:
SG Mike Bickerstaf
2040 2nd round pick

Winner – Both. After playing for the Thunder for 15 years Bickerstaf has been moved on for someone that is pretty similar. Molnar is only 29 years old but he brings about the same as what Bickerstaf did so it’s a draw for both.

I renounce Dwayne Corner, Matt Bobbit, Adrian Harris and regrettably Paul Wilder. I also gave a qualifying offer to Ryan Cornell and held onto the rights of Cameron Brown and Art Stevenson because I would love to have both of them back.

It’s summer league time! So Roman, Muck, Jeff (Seabrooks), Pin (-zhen Yuan) and Sam (Russell) get call ups and it will be good to see how this talented group goes.

Our first game is a cruisy 114-104 win over Houston as Sam blows everyone out of the water with 16 points, 9 rebounds and a whopping 8 blocks. Geez, great start to a career there. Roman had 10 points and 6 turnovers, Muck went 4/14 for 9 points and 9 rebounds while Pin had 12 points. They were all upstaged by Jason Smith who went 11/13 for 25 points in 20 minutes.

I think Muck thinks that it’s a shooting drill as he goes 5/21 for 16 points in our 108-100 loss to Nevada. The rest of our guys did well though, with Sam having 10 points and 13 rebounds, Roman shooting well for 19 points and Pin having 12 points in 22 minutes. It’s just that Muck shot soooo much that we lost.

That’s more like it. Not the score, as we lose to Cleveland 106-99 but Roman had 31 points and Muck went for 25 points and 10 rebounds. He still shot badly at 10/27 but he did other things as well. Sam had 10 points and 7 rebounds but had foul trouble.

I’m so glad I drafted Sam because he is tearing up summer league and in our 107-86 win over Miami he had 12 points, 14 rebounds and 5 blocks. Roman chipped in 17 points but Muck again hogged the ball with 25 points on 9/24 shooting. I hope he’s not like this in the regular season.

He must have heard my concerns because even though we lost 94-93 to Minnesota it wasn’t Muck’s fault, going 17/25 for 41 points and 4 steals. The rest of the team didn’t do much outside Roman’s 22 points but when someone scores 41 points you just want to give him the ball.

All in all there was some great signs from our four valuable players (sorry Jeff Seabrooks).
Romanos Demosthenous – 19.8 points
Rich Muckle – 23.2 points, 6.8 rebounds, 1.4 steals, 1.4 blocks (.405 FG)
Pin-zhen Yuan – 9.6 points, 4.4 rebounds
Sam Russell – 11.2 points, 9.4 rebounds, 1.2 steals, 3.6 blocks

This free agency is pretty damn awesome with some quality players waiting for new teams. We won’t be splashing much cash on news guys as getting Cameron Brown and Ryan Cornell are the main priorities. Here are the top ten –

C BJ Watson*
SG Cameron Brown
PG Gamal Hicks*
SG Cliff Havens
SF James Carroll*
C Brandon Bailey*
SG Frank Slaughter
C Shaheen Mason*
SF Jit wei Fong
SF Bob Benton

And that’s not including Earl Harris, Williams Shine, Jerry Benton, Joe West and MVP Rick Erickson.

I offer Cameron Brown a 5 year, $75 million contract straight away and even though it’s a little less than the max I think he’ll take it. I also offer Cornell a 5 year, $40 million deal which is underpaying but I’ll put on record that I’ll match whatever any team gives him so I can pay low for now.

About a week into free agency a lot of the big name players re-sign with their teams, and luckily for us Cam comes back to the desert. Gamal Hicks, Rick Erickson and James Carroll also go back for a lot of money.

It’s been pretty boring actually with the biggest name, BJ Watson, going back to Toronto for $69 million. In good news for fans of the Rookie Six, Terry McKenzie goes to Miami on a one year minimum deal after spending last season without a team.

Ryan Cornell signs on offer sheet with Los Angeles worth $42 million over four years and I match that as quickly as I can. He’s too good of a pure point guard to be let go.

You know it’s a slow free agency with the Lakers signing Flavian Pesmazoglou to the same contract that they tried to get Cornell for is the biggest move in about two weeks. Yawn.

Yawn, wake me up when something exciting happens.

Whoops, I guess I slept too long as Portland snatched Art Stevenson for a one year deal. In bigger news, Steve Respert shuns the Neon to sign with Washington for nearly $50 million over four. Finally.

I sign Anthony Coley, Terrell Sinville, Brad King and Keith Chapman to minimum deals to round out our 15 man squad

Training camp comes and goes and man do we have some talent on this roster. Cornell is again a superstar passer and defender while Muck, Winston and Sam all grew. Roman didn’t do much which is disappointing so he will be coming off the bench. Pin did well working on his game but he’ll be down in the D-League this season.

Western Conference Pre-Season Rankings
1 – Utah Jazz
2 – Phoenix Suns
3 – Oklahoma City Thunder
4 – Sacramento Kings
5 – Los Angeles Lakers
Last – Milwaukee Bucks

Woo, we’re ranked second! We’ve still got plenty of kinks to work out with the team but people are sitting up and taking notice of our talent. The Spurs should probably be in our spot instead of sixth while having Portland down in tenth is a joke.

Eastern Conference Pre-Season Rankings
1 – Toronto Raptors
2 – Indiana Pacers
3 – Atlanta Hawks
4 – Philadelphia 76ers
5 – New York Knicks
Last – Washington Wizards

What? I nearly choked on my cereal when I say that Philly and New York are sitting at fourth and fifth. Neither team has got better over the off season so why should the two worst teams in the conference be this high? Dumb. Indiana should take the top spot but the Raptors are really putting an elite team together and should challenge the Pacers.

Pre-Season All NBA First Team:
Michael Harmon, Indiana Pacers
Cameron Brown, Phoenix Suns
Marshod Anderson, Brooklyn Nets
Ishmael Faye, Indiana Pacers
BJ Watson, Toronto Raptors

Pre-Season All NBA Second Team:
Mack Haston, San Antonio Spurs
Daniel Brazzle, Toronto Raptors
James Carroll, Houston Rockets
Reggie Smith, New York Knicks
Adam Bell, Memphis Grizzlies

Pre-Season All NBA Third Team:
Joe Adras, Sacramento Kings
Cliff Havens, San Diego Riders
Juia Henchoz, Orlando Magic
Michael McQuay, Atlanta Hawks
John Meliet, Atlanta Hawks

I’m so excited for this team, so here is your 2040-2041 “WCF please” Phoenix Suns –

PG – Ryan Cornell
SG – Cameron Brown
SF – Rich Muckle
PF – Abel Williams
C – Darryl Abrams
6th – Anthony Coley
7th – Winston Shannon
8th – Sam Russell
9th – Keith Chapman
10th – Romanos Demosthenous
11th – Russell Haymon
12th – Terrell Sinville
13th – Jeff Seabrooks
14th – Brad King
D-League – Pin-zhen Yuan

Now that’s how you start a season! All twelve of our players had at least ten minutes court time and a mind bending nine guys were in double figures! You can probably guess that we won as our biggest lead over Nevada was 52 points as we put the hammer down 126-79. Our defense was spectacular as well, holding the Neon to 29% shooting with Carl Wilkins and Traves Parker combining to shoot 3/25.

Phoenix Suns 1-0

Another game and another flogging as we outscore the Riders 40-11 in the last term to blast them 127-92. Cam was phenomenal with 38 points while Muck shot well for 25 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists. Mitch Edwards had 18 points and 11 rebounds but they are missing their heart and soul in Cliff Havens who has torn his ACL.

Phoenix Suns 2-0

Cam might have had 31 points but it was Abel who stole the sow in our 100-81 win over Utah as he racked up 17 points and 15 rebounds against Nathaniel Jackson. Jackson was pretty good as well with 21 points and 9 rebounds but Gamal Hicks was held to only 2/14 shooting.

Phoenix Suns 3-0

Our first away game is against another unbeaten team in Toronto and they look good this season. New addition Padorin Ivelitsch had 29 points for the Raptors but we had the answer in Winston Shannon who took over from Cornell with 25 points off the bench to lead us to a 107-99 win. Cam also had 25 points (and 8 assists) and Muck added 23 points so it wasn’t all Winston but he’s got a real knack for scoring the ball.

Phoenix Suns 4-0

It’s our turn to host the Raptors and the game was anything but close as we won every quarter to beat Toronto again 122-106. Cam had a blinder, going 16/24 for 44 points while Muck played the Robin role well with 29 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists. Those numbers overshadowed a strange anomaly as Abel only grabbed 2 rebounds for the game which is a long way from his average. Daniel Brazzle was the best for Toronto with 24 points and 14 assists.

Phoenix Suns 5-0

Again it was Cam leading in scoring (with 32 points) but not leading the game as we beat the Riders again 109-91. That honour went to Cornell who finished with 21 points, 12 assists and 8 rebounds. Abel was back to usual with 10 rebounds. Mitch Edwards was again the star for San Diego with 15 points and 13 rebounds but they shot 36% from the field.

Phoenix Suns 6-0

I’m sorry, was any defense played in this game?

Image

The Mavericks can’t guard a chair at the moment and we take full advantage, shooting exactly 50% from the field for a 125-105 win. Cam was the best on ground this time with 36 points while Winston went 7/9 for 17 points in TEN FREAKING MINUTES. Crazy. Matt Hackett was the star for Dallas with 27 points and 14 rebounds while the reason they are sucking is that Jason London is starting over Tobe Slaughter for some reason, with the former going 4/15 and the latter having 20 points in 22 minutes. Hmm, who would you start?

Phoenix Suns 7-0

The Wizards are 2-10 and played like it against us, going down 29-9 in the first quarter as we romp home 118-73. Everyone had at least 10 minute again while Cam and Cornell combining for 46 points and 15 assists. Neil Prato needed 20 shots to get 19 points to go along with his 9 rebounds.

Phoenix Suns 8-0

There is no team with more versatility than the Bobcats and that was on show in their 117-102 beating of us to give us our fist loss. RT Adams had 21 points, 11 assists and 9 rebounds while Aaron White and Deon Fox combined for 39 points and 18 rebounds. Anthony Coley was a surprise star with 20 points off the bench for us. After the game Terrell Sinville had some heated words (to put it nicely) and made everyone uncomfortable so I took him into my office and told him that he either shuts up or he’s out. He didn’t quite like that but I don’t care, what people know about me is that I don’t like friction in the locker room.

Phoenix Suns 8-1

It’s right back to winning (I can get used to this again) with a 102-93 wire to wire win over OKC. Cam had a fantastic all around game with 21 points, 11 rebounds and 7 assists while Abel and Darryl doubled up. It’s strange seeing a Thunder team without Mike Bickerstaf but that’s what we have here with Brandon Bailey leading the way with 21 points, 11 rebounds and 6 blocks.

Phoenix Suns 9-1

Muck went 4/19 for 10 points but when we play the 2-13 Wizards it doesn’t really matter as we still win 114-83. Cam had 26 points while Abel added 22 points and 8 rebounds as Washington is really that bad. Roman was super efficient with 14 points on 7/7 shooting in only 10 minutes. LaZelle Milsap was the best for the losers with 17 points as they shoot 35%.

Phoenix Suns 10-1

We just couldn’t reel in Seattle’s lead at any stage as they always had that 8-10 point lead throughout the game. In the end they won 114-101 behind Dew Martin’s 27 points and 10 assists. Cornell had 20 points, 8 rebounds and 8 assists but this was the Sonics’ game.

Phoenix Suns 10-2

Sam Russell has a go at Coach Jones about playing time so I take him into my office and calmly tell him that it’s not that way we do things around here. I’m really high on this kid so I try and free up some minutes for him.

Phoenix trade:
PF Anthony Coley
2041 1st round pick (HOU)

Portland trade:
PG Du Yip
2041 1st round pick (POR)

Winner – Portland. Coley is too good to be coming off the bench so it’s good to see him starting for the Blazers. It’s a plus for the Suns as well as this gives more minutes to gun rookie Sam Russell.

I like this trade for another reason as the Blazers are a shadow of what they used to be under my control, with five centres, four power forwards, two small forward, four shooting guards and zero point guards. It’s all over the shop and I don’t think they’ll make the playoffs.

Our first game after the trade was a comfortable 103-92 win over OKC with Cam leading the way with 27 points on 9/17 shooting. Abel also went 9/17 but didn’t hit as many threes for 19 points and 13 rebounds. Sam didn’t get more minutes but at least he had some with 8 points in 8 minutes. Zan Tepavac had 4 points and 10 rebounds for the Thunder.

Phoenix Suns 11-2

He gets 22 minutes in our 113-97 win over Portland to improve our draft chances and Sam made the most of it with 18 points and 6 fouls. Roman was a dynamo in his seven minutes with 3 blocks and 4 fouls. Cam led us with 33 points while Patrick Blizzard had 29 points for the Blazers. Anthony Coley had 16 points and 13 rebounds which is great news for him.

Phoenix Suns 12-2

It’s strange to see New Orleans doing so badly (4-13) with the talent they have but I guess they have been hit with injuries so far this season. It didn’t stop them from stampeding over us at the end as they beat us 33-24 in the last to steal the 94-93 win. Joe Morgan was the star with 22 points in 29 minutes off the bench, most of them in the last. Cornell was our best with 17 points but this was a miss opportunity.

Phoenix Suns 12-3

Terrell Sinville has another shouting rant at Ryan Cornell so obviously what I said to him didn’t sink in at all so I trade him to Washington for a future second round pick. Good riddance.

To say that I’m happy with the season at this point is an understatement as we haven’t lost at home (7-0) and are sitting on top of the West. Seattle are behind us at 9-4 while Houston have only played eight games at 5-3. Golden State are sitting at the bottom of the conference at 4-11.

As usual the Pacers are leading the way in the East at 8-1 but they have company in Brooklyn (10-2) and Toronto (12-4). As I said before, Washington are woeful this year at 2-16 but the Knicks are doing alright at 10-6.

November Player of the Month – Marshod Anderson, Brooklyn Nets – 36.1 points, 1.4 assists, 7.6 rebounds, 0.8 steals and 1.6 blocks per game.

November Rookie of the Month – Gavin Harvey, Orlando Magic – 14.3 points, 1.3 assists, 7.5 rebounds, 0.5 steals and 0.6 blocks per game.

What the hell, I make the biggest trade I’ve done at Phoenix. I’m pretty sure I won as well.

Phoenix trade:
SF Rich Muckle
PG Ryan Cornell

Brooklyn trade:
SF Marshod Anderson
2041 1st round pick

Winner – Phoenix. There were rumours that Anderson wanted out of Brooklyn because of the direction the team was headed (down) so GM Yaxley MacMillan swoops in. He trades away one of the best pure point guards in the league and a 20 year old that could be the next Anderson. But right now it’s a no brainer for Phoenix.

I’m over the moon with this trade, as it gives us another top flight scorer to go with Cam. Trading Cornell was tough but I want Winston to start because he could be something special. This team is all offense, all the time. I’m not that worried about Muckle because 1. We got a better player and 2. He’s just not that efficient with the ball. Maybe that will change in Brooklyn but it wasn’t going to happen here. I sign Bernard Polite and Chris Cage to be bench warmers to fill the roster out.

Crazy, huh? Bare with me for a minute as I brag. Holy hell can I swindle people! Not only did I get Cameron freaking Brown I now have a superstar SF in Marshod Anderson, probably the BEST small forward in the game. I guess being in the game for 29 years has taught me a thing or two about getting a stellar team together.

In our first game with our new superstar we played the Heat and stomped them. Marshod had 31 points while Winston had a blinder with 25 points and 8 assists as we won comfortably 126-87.. It’s his time to shine now. Mark Lyday was the best for Miami with 16 points.

Phoenix Suns 13-3

In Brooklyn’s first game sans Anderson they did pretty well, beating Cleveland 123-104 with Muck having 23 points and Cornell adding 14 points, 10 assists and 7 rebounds. They’re going to be alright I reckon.

Cam and Marshod are going to be fun to watch, feeding off each other. They combined for 65 points in our 116-105 win over Golden State as most of our guys had good runs. Sam Russell had 8 points, 8 rebounds and 3 blocks in only 17 minutes. Apolinary Dembowski did a number on Abel Williams with 30 points and 11 rebounds but had no other help.

Phoenix Suns 14-3

Damn Mack Haston is a good player. If it wasn’t for Michael Harmon, Haston would be the best point guard in the league and he’s only 21 years old. Mad. He had 32 points and 14 assists as he single-handedly beat us 108-92. It didn’t help that Cam and Marshod shot 9/31 while Winston had 17 points. There is going to be a massive bidding war for Haston when he becomes a free agent this coming off season.

Phoenix Suns 14-4

The Blazers suck, really bad. It’s strange because they don’t have that bad of a team but when a lot of it was built around Lou Beck it’s going to change things. Luckily we have their first round pick. We also beat the 95-90 after they came back from 20 points down going into the fourth. Marshod had 23 points but Cam is nursing a bruised sternum and only had 11 points. That’s fine, a win is a win. Patrick Blizzard had 25 points but turned the ball over 7 times to negate it.

Phoenix Suns 15-4

In a much more impressive effort we beat the Wolves 118-100 and it sure is strange to see Cort Majishun in a Minnesota uniform. Winston had no interest in this with 38 points in his best game of his career. Cam might have only had 9 points but did dish out 11 assists. This team is built to score the ball. Cort didn’t do himself any disservice with 21 points in 23 minutes off the bench.

Phoenix Suns 16-4

This is the Marshod Anderson I wanted when I traded for him as he pounded Seattle for 40 points and we beat them 110-92. No one else on our side had more than 14 points but when we have a superstar going off like that you just sit and watch. Ben Angeli had 25 points for the losers as they shot only 40% from the field.

Phoenix Suns 17-4

Sam Russell played only 21 minutes but finished with 13 points, 8 rebounds and a whopping 10 blocks as we beat the Nuggets 113-78. 10 blocks in 21 minutes must be some kind of record and just think of what he could have done if he had more minutes. Marshod, Cam and Winston combined for 68 points while Brett Felts had 15 points for Denver.

Phoenix Suns 18-4

Winston had 18 points and 9 rebounds in our 102-93 win over Nevada but I feel like I’m forgetting something. Oh that’s right, Marshod’s 46 points and 12 rebounds to decimate the opposition. He went 16/29 from the field and 10/12 from the foul line in a monster display. Traves Parker is doing nicely for the Neon with 23 points and 12 rebounds.

Phoenix Suns 19-4

The Pacers had no answers for us which makes me so happy as we torch them 106-88. Winston again had a fantastic game with 30 points while Marshod continued where he left off, going 11/15 for 24 points and 12 rebounds. Ish Faye had a decent game with 17 points and 13 rebounds but Michael Harmon was held to only 4/13 shooting and only 1 assist.

Phoenix Suns 20-4

Damn, Alan Patton gives Marshod a taste of his own medicine, going 19/28 from the field for 44 points as the Celtics come from 17 points down to beat us to the post 121-115. Abel was our best with 23 points and 16 rebounds but we didn’t share the ball around enough which can happen with a point guard like Winston who is a shoot first kind of guy.

Phoenix Suns 20-5

We get right back on the horse again with Cam leading the way after a few tired games as he has 29 points and we beat the Neon (again) 125-93. Seven Suns were in double figures as we shoot a great 52% from the field to romp the game in. Carl Wilkins had 17 points and 13 rebounds for the losers.

Phoenix Suns 21-5

Damn you Boston Celtics, why can’t we ever beat you? This time it was a 113-103 loss to the C’s after Alan Patton again got the best of Marshod Anderson with 25 points. Marshod also had 25 points but he didn’t shoot as well while we didn’t have that second player like Ipolitas Margolis was for Boston with 20 points and 10 rebounds.

Phoenix Suns 21-6

It’s the big battle of us versus Brooklyn. Everyone is talking about this game so we can’t let them down. Marshod had 31 points but the rest of our starters went 13/44 as we lose game one 119-107. Rich Muckle had a great game with 25 points and 10 rebounds while Ryan Cornell added 14 points, 13 assists and 6 rebounds so I’m sure the Nets aren’t too worried about losing Marshod.

Phoenix Suns 21-7

The Bobcats are one of the best teams in the East but they weren’t good enough for us, as we ride Marshod’s 40 points and 8 rebounds to beat them 112-100. Winston added 23 points while Darryl and Abel added 28 rebounds. Deon Fox is a star in the making with 27 points and 12 rebounds but they shot only 44% from the field.

Phoenix Suns 22-7

Coach Jones decides to start Sam Russell at centre and even though he only had 10 points and 6 rebounds, it’s a good sign that Sam’s getting better. Marshod had 27 points and Abel and Winston combined for 42 points as we beat the Sonics 126-116 in a pretty comfortable fashion. Seattle’s back court tried this best as Ben Angeli and Drew Martin combined for 54 points in the loss.

Phoenix Suns 23-7

Our last game of the year 2040 is an easy 119-108 win over Houston as Marshod hit 36 points but needed 31 shots for them. Winston was much better, going 9/13 for 27 points and 9 assists while Sam seems to be enjoying his time as a starter with 12 points, 10 rebounds and 6 blocks. Darryl isn’t sulking on the bench with 10 rebounds and 4 blocks. Andy Kante had 28 points and 9 rebounds for the Rockets while our old star Arthimus Smallwood had 17 points and 8 rebounds before fouling out.

Phoenix Suns 24-7

After a great month and nabbing one of the best players in the league I really feel like we are title contenders before I retire when the Rookie Six does. We’ve hit the lead in the West, four games ahead of Sacramento (20-11) and San Antonio (16-9) and we’re on track. Portland have fallen off a cliff and have bottomed out at 6-24 which is great news as we have their first round pick. I never thought that they would be this bad so close after winning a title.

The Nets have bolted ahead of the pack at 20-5, two games ahead of Detroit’s 27-7 record. Another team that has taken a dive is Indiana who are seventh at 14-11. In a surprise to no-one, Philadelphia are last at 5-20.

Thoughts – I think this is the first time I have ever seen a top five consisting of only one position. It’s far too early to think about a clear cut number one but Henry is making that push.

December Player of the Month – James Carroll, Houston Rockets – 32.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, 1.0 assist, 3.0 steals and 1.5 blocks per game.

December Rookie of the Month – Ryan Holcomb, San Diego Riders – 17.4 points, 4.2 rebounds, 1.6 assists, 1.1 steals and 0.7 blocks per game.

I guess everyone was so shocked by our trade for Marshod that they forgot to do any dealing of their own as there were no trades last month.

We start 2041 like we finished off 2040, with a win. Marshod had 34 points and 9 rebounds as we block 14 shots to snuff the Lakers 101-84. Cam was also on target with 24 points and 8 assists. Nathan Gordon struggled all night, going 6/23 for only 19 points, seven less than his average.

Phoenix Suns 25-7

It was the showcase of our three star scorers as Marshod, Cam and Winston combined for 69 points as we flush the Nuggets 99-79. Marshod added 10 rebounds while Cam was so close to a triple double with 9 rebounds and 9 assists. Leon Oliver had 17 points and 11 rebounds but with no proper point guard on the squad Gustavo Fonseca is handling the duties, poorly.

Phoenix Suns 26-7

Wow, I did not expect the scoreline when we played the Cavs. Marshod had 29 points, Winston added 27 points while Darryl, Jeff Seabrooks, Keith Chapman and Roman combined to shoot 21/26 for 51 points as we obliterated our opponents 147-102. The team shot 65% from the field and hit 16/29 threes in a very one sided game. Steve Howard had 15 points and 10 rebounds but there are rumours that he wants out of Cleveland. It won’t be to us as we have some great centres on the team already.

Phoenix Suns 27-7

It wasn’t pretty but we got the job done against Cam’s old squad with a 100-94 win over Houston. Cam didn’t shoot well but finished with 21 points while Sam was fantastic with 14 points, 14 rebounds and 3 blocks. In fact our big three (Marshod, Cam and Winston) only shot 20/51 which isn’t the best. Arthimus Smallwood is playing PF and had 19 points and 11 rebounds.

Phoenix Suns 28-7

Grr, we let a 14 point lead slip as Golden State fought back behind Adam Rosen to snatch the 111-108 win. Rosen was fantastic with 28 points on 15 shots while three bench guys combined for 44 points. Marshod and Cam combined for 58 points but the Warriors shot 52% and it’s always hard to win against a team shooting like that.

Phoenix Suns 28-8

That’s two losses in a row as we go down to the lowly Lakers 110-98 and it seems we’re a bit lazy at the moment. Flavian Pesmazoglou had 21 points, 7 assists and 6 rebounds as we lost again because we couldn’t defend anyone, with LA shooting 52% to our 41%. Get your head in the game, guys!

Phoenix Suns 28-9

Seriously? We lose to Minnesota because we let them shoot better than us, again? That’s right, the crappy Wolves beat us 95-93 behind Nick Hughes’ 27 points and 10 rebounds as we shoot 42% from the field. I guess that’s what happens sometimes. No, that’s three losses in a row against three teams we should have beaten and it’s not cool. Marshod had 32 points.

Phoenix Suns 28-10

So I go shopping. Not expecting anything, just loo-

WHAT WHAT WHAT MICHAEL HARMON IS ON THE TRADING BLOCK OH MY GOD.

Ahem, I call up Shane Battier, the general manager of the Indiana Pacers.

“Hey Shane, what gives? Are those rumours right?”

He sighs. “I guess you can’t keep anything a secret. Yeah, if the right deal comes along I might think about it. We’ve fallen behind the likes of Brooklyn and Detroit and I’ve been getting pressure not to fall off the pace, what do you have in mind?”

I’m so glad this isn’t a video call because he would be able to see my massive smile.

“How about this?”

It took us about 30 minutes to work it all out but in the end, I’m a very happy man.

Phoenix trade:
PF Abel Williams
PG Winston Shannon
2041 1st round pick (POR)

Indiana trade:
PG Michael Harmon

Winner – Phoenix. Trading a three time MVP at the age of 27 years old is never a good idea, especially one as good as Harmon. The Pacers didn’t do too badly by getting two quality starters (one that has the potential to be a perennial All Star in Shannon) and a pick that will most likely be top three but it’s a win for Phoenix because quality > quantity.

Wow. Never in my wildest dreams would I have thought that we would be able to get Michael Harmon, Cameron Brown and Marshod Anderson on the same roster but here we are. Trading away the three assets was hard but damn, this team is stacked. I sign Josh Mayes from free agency because he’s been tearing it up in the D-League.

Harms (Michael Harmon) had 19 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists in his first game for us as we beat up the Lakers 110-99. Cam and Marshod took up the slack with 52 points between them as we finally out shoot our opponents 52% to 42%. Aaron DeManby was the best for the Lakers with 22 points and 9 rebounds as Nathan Gordon was held to 17 points.

Phoenix Suns 29-10

Our biggest test of the season was up next, going to see the 35-8 Pistons in Detroit. And you know what? They were no match for us as we ride Harms’ 25 points and 8 assists to beat the 104-94. Sweet. Cam added 20 points to make up for Marshod’s 17 points. Jamie McMillian had 24 points and 8 rebounds for the Pistons and we showed the basketball world that we are contenders.

Phoenix Suns 30-10

What’s great about our team isn’t just our three superstars but with Sam and Darryl starting at PF/C we have two fantastic defensive players who don’t need plays run for them and can take the pressure off our big three on that end. But it’s always good to see them get some points as they combined for 21 points, 14 rebounds and 3 blocks as we beat the Nuggets 112-94. Our big three were fantastic as usual, with 73 points between them. Tom Jordan top scored for Denver with 21 points but took 27 shots to get those points.

Phoenix Suns 31-10

The Knicks haven’t been good for so long, it’s hard to remember when they were good. After beating them 103-78 that’s not going to change very soon. Marshod had 23 points while Sam (11 points, 13 rebounds), Darryl (10 points, 12 rebounds) and Cam (12 points, 10 assists) also doubled up. Our defense was spectacular, forcing New York into shooting a woeful 32% from the field.

Phoenix Suns 32-10

That’s five wins in a row after losing three as we hold on to beat the Jazz 107-102 after they outscore us 37-23 in the last. Harms had his best game in a Suns uniform with 37 points as Sam went 6/6 for 12 points and 9 rebounds. Gamal Hicks wasn’t outplayed with 21 points and 10 assists but the Jazz turned the ball over 17 times.

Phoenix Suns 33-10

Our last game of January is a very breezy 124-84 win over Nevada as Cam, Marshod and Harms combined for 75 points with Sam and Darryl combining for 28 rebounds. So a pretty good outing from our starters. Glen Abrams was the only Neon player in double figures with 25 points as everyone else had eight points or less.

Phoenix Suns 34-10

With such a strong team now I’m certain we can get the best record in the league, and we’re on our way as the best team in the West with San Antonio behind us at 25-11 and Dallas at 28-16. Nevada have taken over as the worst team in the West at 14-32 but Portland are only a game back.

Detroit have fallen off a little but still hold the lead in the East at 39-12, while Charlotte (32-15) and Brooklyn (27-16) are right behind. I feel like I should just omit the Sixers at the bottom of the conference because they always seem to be there at 10-35 with Washington next at 11-38.

Phoenix Top Points
Marshod Anderson – 30.2
Michael Harmon – 26.1
Cameron Brown – 21.6

Phoenix Top Assists
Michael Harmon – 11.4
Cameron Brown – 6.3
Russell Haymon – 2.2

Phoenix Top Rebounds
Darryl Abrams – 7.8
Marshod Anderson – 6.7
Sam Russell – 6.0

If you’re wondering how all of the players that have been traded are going with their new teams, here is a rundown –

Marshod Anderson (PHO) – 29 games, 27.8 points, 6.3 rebounds, 1.4 assists, 0.8 steals, 0.9 blocks
Rich Muckle (BKL) – 31 games, 22.7 points, 5.7 rebounds, 2.1 assists, 1.5 steals, 1.5 blocks
Ryan Cornell (BKL) – 23 games, 15.7 points, 5.3 rebounds, 11.1 assists, 1.2 steals, 0.7 blocks
Michael Harmon (PHO) – 6 games, 25.0 points, 4.2 rebounds, 6.5 assists, 1.5 steals, 0.5 blocks
Abel Williams (IND) – 8 games, 13.3 points, 8.4 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 1.6 steals, 1.8 blocks
Winston Shannon (IND) – 5 games, 12.2 points, 2.6 rebounds, 10.0 assists, 2.2 steals, 0.0 blocks

League Leaders
Points – Marshod Anderson (PHO) – 30.2

Assists – Earl Harris (DAL) – 14.0
Rebounds – Jarrad Prewitt (SEA) – 11.4
Blocks – Adam Bell (MEM) – 3.9
Steals – Curtis Mueller (ATL) – 3.0
Efficiency – Michael Harmon (PHO) – 31.9

Rookie Leaders
Points – Ryan Holcomb (SDR) – 16.6
Assists – Steven Fletcher (TOR) – 3.3
Rebounds – Gavin Harvey (ORL) – 6.3
Blocks – Sam Russell (PHO) – 2.1
Steals – Santo Tommasini (CHI) – 1.3
Efficiency – Ryan Holcomb (SDR) – 16.1

Second Round of NBA Draft Prospects –
1. C Brian Henry (High School), Senior, 7’0”, 280lbs
2. C Moshe Nagid (Latvia), 18 years old, 6’11”, 250lbs
3. PF Joe Dixon (Pennsylvania), Sophomore, 6’10”, 250lbs
4. C Petrick Rancik (Maryland), Freshman, 6’9”, 245lbs
5. C Joey Peterson (High School), Senior, 6’11”, 253lbs

Thoughts – Henry’s numbers have increased and if the others aren’t careful, he’s going to run away with this draft crop. He’s starting to become more comfortable in his massive frame which is bad news for other centres.

You gave up some talent but landed top shelf in return. What kind of money are you spending and can you keep everyone?

We're currently sitting at $70.7 million for the squad which is $12.7 million over the cap. I gave myself a self-imposed limit of $15 million over the cap so I'm still under that. Michael Harmon, Cameron Brown and Marshod Anderson make up $47.9 million of that number so as you could expect, the rest of the squad is on very cheap deals. Romanos Demosthenous still has two years left on his deal while Sam Russell and Pin-zhen Yuan are rookies. Other than that, it's the usual cheap veteran players so we should be good for at least one more year.

January Player of the Month – Juia Henchoz, Orlando Magic – 30.3 points, 8.0 rebounds, 2.4 assists, 1.1 steals and 0.3 blocks per game.

January Rookie of the Month – Ryan Holcomb, San Diego Riders – 21.2 points, 4.8 rebounds, 1.4 assists, 1.3 steals and 1.2 blocks per game.

Only one trade last month so hopefully the deadline brings some decent deals.

Nevada trade:
PG Israel Payne

Seattle trade:
SF Andre Sheppard
2041 2nd round pick

Winner – Nevada. Even though Payne is a better talent who has led the league in assists a couple of years ago, Seattle got the better deal. Sheppard is an expiring $8 million contract while Payne still has over $30 million owed to him over three years and isn’t even starting.

Against the very good Dallas squad, we got out to a 15 point lead with our big three combining for 79 points before the Mavericks raced back to get out to their own 15 point lead behind Jason London’s 33 points. Again the lead was brought back but unfortunately for us we lost by the slightest of margins, going down 127-126. Kresimir Balas and Matt Hackett had 46 points to help London.

Phoenix Suns 34-11

We don’t let that game get us down as Cam massacres the Warriors for 43 points as we win easy 122-109. Harms backed up Cam with 27 points and 12 assists and Keith added 15 points in 18 minutes. Darnell Kimbrough is still going strong out there in California and had 28 points and 9 rebounds in the loss.

Phoenix Suns 35-11

Our big three is probably the biggest three I have ever had on a team of mine, and probably the biggest three maybe ever. Tonight in our 130-109 beat down of Utah they combined for 81 points, 20 assists and 19 rebounds which is simply phenomenal. And to think, it hasn’t been that long since this team was completed so they still have some chemistry issues to work out. Another surprise has been Josh Mayes who I signed after the Harmon deal and he is giving some great spark off the bench and tonight he had 18 points in 17 minutes. No-one on the Jazz team really played that well as Gamal Hicks only had 7 points and 7 assists.

Phoenix Suns 36-11

We get our revenge and then some against the Mavericks but outscoring them 35-19 in the last quarter. The game was gone before then but to put an exclamation mark on it like that was great to win 113-82. Cam was our best with 23 points, 9 assists and 8 rebounds while our bench dynamo Josh Mayes had 14 points in only 9 minutes. Matt Hackett played a lone hand for Dallas with 21 points and 10 rebounds.

Phoenix Suns 37-11

Great. After 32 miserable minutes where he went 4/13, Marshod broke his finger going for an interception and will be out for at least a couple of months. Oh yeah, we lost the game too, going down to the Spurs 100-97. Cam was our best with 24 points but the team is a little down after Marshod’s injury.

Phoenix Suns 37-12

Roman will get the starting gig.

He does himself proud with 17 points and 5 steals as we beat the Rockets 122-113. Cam was electric against his old team with 34 points and Sam, Darryl and Harms doubled up. Arthimus Smallwood still hasn’t forgiven me for trading him and he took it out on us with 29 points, 7 rebounds and 6 steals but I guess I can get the last laugh because we won.

Phoenix Suns 38-12

Our now big two still did us good as Cam and Harms combined for 64 points as we smoosh the Nets 125-114. One name that hasn’t be said in a while had a good game as Du Yip had 10 points in 11 minutes. Luigi Cannavaro and Marlin Bain are finally starting together and had 60 points between them but Rich Muckle and Ryan Cornell only had 16 points.

Phoenix Suns 39-12

Cam and Harms might have had 29 points and 24 points respectively, it was two of our other guys who did the damage in our 120-106 win over Atlanta. Josh Mayes had 24 points and 10 rebounds in 29 minutes while Roman added 19 points and 5 steals in the win. The Hawks had seven players in double figures but when Michael McQuay only had 11 points and 5 turnovers you know it’s going to be a tough time.

Phoenix Suns 40-12

In a strange game, it was an all around effort by the team as we finally beat the Spurs 109-95. Harms led the way with 19 points but Cam (17 points, 11 assists), Darryl (17 points, 11 rebounds) and Roman (12 points, 10 rebounds) all doubled up with all five starters with 12 points or more. David Smith led San Antonio with 17 points but Mack Haston only had 8 points and 8 assists.

Phoenix Suns 41-12

The Blazers are actually finally doing something with their season, but only just at 20-30. That didn’t stop us from pounding them into the ground with a 103-75 victory behind Harms’ 23 points and 9 rebounds. Roman also did well with 19 points and 9 rebounds as he’s loving all this extra playing time. Chris Waters led Portland with 15 points and 13 rebounds but Shaun Tebbs had a shocker, going 1/10 for 4 points.

Phoenix Suns 42-12

In our last game before the All Star weekend, it was Roman who stole the show with 27 points and holding Nuh Shushud to only 2/19 shooting as we beat the Hawks 104-93. Michael McQuay played better than his last outing against us with 25 points and 11 rebounds but we had this in the bag from early on.

Phoenix Suns 43-12

It’s All Star weekend and first up is the Slam Dunk contest and it wasn’t even close. Washington’s Matt Smith led through the preliminaries and then spanked Indiana’s Lamar Traylor in the final to take the title. In the Long Distance Shootout we actually had a participant in Michael Harmon but he sucked and came last so we won’t talk about that. DJ Forbes from Chicago was level with Minnesota’s Cort Majishun (weird saying that) but then put on the jets in the final to beat Majishun and San Diego’s Matt Anderson by seven points to win the trophy.

The Rookie/Sophomore game wasn’t a close one as the second year guys are just way better at the moment, running out winners 144-122. Anthony Miller led the way with 33 points and 10 assists for the MVP award but was helped by two other teammates with 30+ points with Deon Fox having 33 points and 9 rebounds and Tom Jordan adding 30 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists. For the rookies, Ryan Holcomb was the go to guy with 30 points and we had a participant as Sam Russell playing 14 minutes for 8 points, 6 rebounds and 3 blocks.

Wow, I cannot believe how good the East played. It was phenomenal, as they shoot 38/57 from three! They hit 38 three pointers out of 57 which is mind blowing in every sense. Every quarter they had at least 40 points and in the second half they scored 105 points. As you can probably guess, the East won with a baffling score of 187-141. Yep, they nearly scored 200 points. Pete Edgerson was named All Star MVP with 44 points on 12/18 three pointers but was helped by Juia Henchoz’s 10/13 from beyond the arc with 37 points and 9 rebounds. There were others who did well like DJ Forbes’ 22 points and 9 assists in 21 minutes, Lou Beck’s 18 points and 18 assists in 21 minutes, just too many to note. For the West Nathan Gordon had 28 points but they were run over by a freight train carrying freight trains. Michael Harmon started for 20 points and 6 assists while Cameron Brown added 6 points and 8 assists in 19 minutes and I’m sure if Marshod Anderson was healthy he would have played as well. Wow.

Eastern Conference All Star Starters
Lou Beck, New York Knicks (6th selection)
Pete Edgerson, Orlando Magic (3rd selection)
Juia Henchoz, Orlando Magic (5th selection)
Reggie Smith, New York Knicks (9th selection)
Jamie McMillian, Detroit Pistons (5th selection)

Eastern Conference All Star Reserves
DJ Forbes, Chicago Buls (4th selection)
RT Adams, Charlotte Bobcats (1st selection)
Alan Patton, Boston Celtics (2nd selection)
Mark Lyday, Miami Heat (3rd selection)
Ishmael Faye, Indiana Pacers (6th selection)
Rick Erickson, Miami Heat (2nd selection)
Luigi Cannavaro, Brooklyn Nets (1st selection)

Western Conference All Star Starters
Michael Harmon, Phoenix Suns (7th selection)

Nathan Gordon, Los Angeles Lakers (2nd selection)
James Carroll, Houston Rockets (2nd selection)
Zan Tepavac, Oklahoma City Thunder (2nd selection)
Mitch Edwards, San Diego Riders (1st selection)

Western Conference All Star Reserves
Joe Adras, Sacramento Kings (6th selection)
Axel Rancik, Oklahoma City Thunder (3rd selection)
Mack Haston, San Antonio Spurs (3rd selection)
Cameron Brown, Phoenix Suns (3rd selection)
Jarrad Prewitt, Seattle Supersonics (1st selection)
David Baxley, Sacramento Kings (2nd selection)
Dan Bonney, San Diego Riders (1st selection)

It seems that we are still in holiday mode as we let the Bulls beat us 119-109. DJ Forbes is also still in All Star mode but in a good way as he had 22 points, 12 assists and 6 steals to lead the way while rookie Santo Tommasini went 10/13 for 23 points. It’s good to see my old draftee Kevin Morrison get some court time and had 14 points and 11 rebounds. Cameron Brown might have had 23 points and 8 rebounds but turned the ball over 9 times as the team gave it up 23 times which is just too much.

Phoenix Suns 43-13

Ah, its always good to come against the horrible Sixers as it’s pretty much a win, as shown by our 117-87 blitz. Cam and Harms combined for 47 points and 13 assists while Josh Mayes is quickly becoming one of my favourite bench guys with 21 points and 8 rebounds. Chad DeWitt had 16 points and 10 rebounds but Philly aren’t giving any good minutes to their last two first round picks in Jonathan Roland and Tom Julius which is a shame because I think that Roland especially could do great things.

Phoenix Suns 44-13

After a heavy first half of the month we really didn’t play much after the All Star break which is fine by me as it gives more time for Marshod to get better (about three weeks says the doc). We’re still first in the West at 44-13 with a decent buffer over the 36-18 Spurs and 37-22 Riders. Nevada are last at 17-38 and to all those Indiana fans you will be happy to know that Portland have dropped to 22-35, fourth last in the conference.

Detroit are doing well in first place at 48-14 (not as good as us though) while Charlotte are at 40-19 and trying to catch up. In a strange occurrence, Philadelphia aren’t in last place, they’re 14-47 while Washington are sitting at 11-50. Indiana have dropped out of the eight at 33-27 but they are still at six games over .500 which just goes to show how crazy this conference is.

Third Round of NBA Draft Prospects –
1. C Brian Henry (High School), Senior, 7’0”, 280lbs
2. C Moshe Nagid (Latvia), 18 years old, 6’11”, 250lbs
3. SF Damien Armstead (High School), Senior, 6’5”, 213lbs
4. C Petrick Rancik (Maryland), Freshman, 6’9”, 245lbs
5. PF Joe Dixon (Pennsylvania), Sophomore, 6’10”, 250lbs

Thoughts – It seems that Henry has all but wrapped up the number one pick but after that is way up in the air. I can’t see Nagid sealing number two and it will come down to whoever is picking there.
