Memphis Grizzlies (0-0) vs. Houston Rockets (0-0)

Opening night in Houston and everyone is excited for the new look Rockets. The new aditions of Omer Asik, Jeremy Lin and James Harden are expected to do big things right away. In tonight's game, let's just say they were nervous.

Harden led the team in scoring with 21 points and chipped in a healthy nine rebounds at the SG position, but his 8/24 shooting and four turnovers were the warts of his game.

Linsanity had a rough outing as well. He scored his nine points efficiently, knocking down three of his six attempts, including his only three-pointer as well as dishing out seven assists. The caveat: he turned the ball over 13 times! That's almost where Kris Eisley wants his entire team to be for a game, so it can only get better from here, right?

Asik struggled shooting as well finishing with just eight points on 14 shots but did add ten rebounds. We won the rebounding battle, shot the ball better but Memphis attempted 15 more free throws and stole a win, 86-83. You hate to lose on your opening night, but we fought hard against a very good defensive team. Losses are never good, but we will learn from this.

In the loss, Patrick Patterson had a good night with 12 points, nine rebounds and five steals. Unfortunately, it was in a losing effort. As for our boy Royce White, he played 23 minutes, scored four points, grabbed two boards and handed out one assist. It will be fun to watch his career either blossom or derail.

Houston Rockets (0-1) vs. Dallas Mavericks (0-0)

After losing our home opener, we are on the road the very next night to open up our in-state rival's season. Being an inner-state road trip, Royce White will be in uniform for the game. Kris Eisley asked him to take the team charter with the rest of the team as it was a short flight, but he declined and took his own bus to feel more comfortable. Baby steps, but we think we can get him over his fear of flying.

Let's just say that Dirk and the Mavericks were all sorts of fired up to start the season as we get blown out 119-87. Dirk looked like he was seven years younger as he went for 32 points on just 17 shots. Chris Kaman went double-double with 19 and ten.

We shot an abysmal 33% as a team. Harden had 23 points but missed 20 shots. Jeremy Lin cut his turnovers in half to six, but that's still too many. Carlos Delfino had ten points off the bench in garbage time. Our bigs got dominated as we gave up 52 points in the paint and trailed by 44 at one time. Not good at all.

Royce White played just like he did at home. He converted two of his four shots, had three boards on each side of the floor for a total of six and one assist. With a looming four game road trip, the Rockets are already rethinking their depth chart and rotation if Royce were not to make the trip with them.

Oklahoma City Thunder (1-0) vs. Houston Rockets (0-2)

Brutal schedule, huh? After losing our first two, we host the defending Western Conference champions.

Do you like defense? Well the Rockets don't. We gave the THunder all they could handle, but after getting outscored by ten in the final frame, we lost 140-131. Kevin Durant showed why he is the best scorer in the league with his 48 points which, as you may have guessed, is a league-high this early in the season. Ibaka and Westbrook both posted double-doubles while three bench players, Collison, Martin and Maynor, all went for double figures for the Thunder.

Going shot for shot with Durant was James Harden. Against his old team, he was a man possessed, scoring 41 points on 12 of 22 shooting including seven triples and ten freebies. What really hurt the team was Harden's nine assists as he was better off firing away instead of trying to get others involved.

Jeremy Lin had a solid 16 point, eight assists, six rebound game. Delfino had 21 points off the bench. His three-point shooting could be key to this team's success. Chandler Parsons had a season-high 17 points, but on eight of 21 shooting. He's shot is struggling, but it will come.

Royce White continues to contribute as a rookie with six points, six boards and four assists. With one more home game before hitting the road, here's to hoping White makes the trip as he has been playing good minutes and giving contribution across the board for the Rockets.

November 7, 2012

Boston Celtics (2-1) vs. Houston Rockets (0-3)

A back and forth game that had 16 lead changes and 12 ties ended in a late comeback by the home Rockets to secure their first win of the young season 126-116. Kevin Garnett tried all he could to lift the Celtics to a win with 26 points and 15 boards, but Chandler Parsons (32) and James Harden (27) were both feeling it tonight.

The shooting woes that had plagued the Rockets in the first three games were no longer apparent as Houston shot 51% from the floor and limited their turnovers to just 14 for the game. Jeremy Lin messed around and had a double-double for 12 points and 11 assists. The surprise of the game goes to Cole Aldrich who logged 28 minutes off the bench and finished with 11 points and five rebounds while Asik was in foul trouble. Royce White had his standard line: 6 points, four rebounds and three assists to go with two blocks.

November 8, 2012

The Rockets are preparing for their first real road trip of the season as they are heading to Portland for the first four out-of-state games. As in his contract, Royce White met with his team of doctors. In a second session, he met with the Houston Rockets’ doctors. After about an hour and a half of tests and talking with the player, it was determined that he would be making the trip with his team. He was a little uneasy about the trip, but it was only three cities in four games as they played both the Clippers and Lakers in games two and three of the trip. It’s actually a five game road trip, but the last one is in San Antonio where he would have played regardless of going to the first four games or not.

[Random Generator popped up a 10. So far, so good for myself and the Rockets.]

November 9, 2012

Houston Rockets (1-3) vs. Portland Trailblazers (1-3)

First long distance road game and the Rockets fall to the Blazers 119-107. A 12-point loss is never OK, but when you get outscored by 18 in the 4th quarter, it’s even harder to swallow. Those shooting woes that disappeared for us reared their ugly head again as we hit 43 of our 113 shots, good for 38%.

Harden led the way with 26 points (7-17), seven boards and five assists. Jeremy Lin (19-10) and Omer Asik (16-11) both had double-doubles. Delfino had ten points off the bench. Royce White was just fine on the road with four points, four boards and a steal.

The Portland trio of LaMarcus Aldridge (25), JJ Hickson (29) and Wesley Matthews (21) combined for 75 points. The Blazers also connected on 12 more free throws than the Rockets even attempted. We need to be more aggressive getting to the rim and the charity stripe. We also need to score much more efficiently across the board.

Houston Rockets (1-4) vs. Los Angeles Clippers (4-1)

Just our 6th game of the season and we are already playing our second set of back-to-back games. Schedule makers must have gone easy on us towards the end of the season.

Remember how the Blazers game ended? Clearly we are a three quarter team because we get rocked 40-21 in the 4th quarter en route to our 111-93 loss. How do you give up 40 points in a quarter anyways? On top of that, we had ourselves a 19-point lead in the 2nd quarter. Awesome.

Harden and Lin both shot 50% and scored 24 points. Lin had six boards and nine dimes while Harden had seven and five. Chandler Parsons had 12 inefficient points on 6-17 shooting. Patrick Patterson and Omer Asik combined for 16 points and ten rebounds while DeAndre Jordan and Blake Griffin dominated with 44 points and 23 boards.

Royce White Watch – seven points, five rebounds, three assists, one steal, one block

November 11, 2012

One of Kris Eisley’s goals was to shed some salary for the next offseason. The Knicks came asking for Cole Aldrich and we were happy to oblige. We sent his $2.9 million contract this year and next year in exchange for two aging big men in Rasheed Wallace and Kurt Thomas. Thomas has not played so far this season while ‘Sheed had played sparingly in the first five games for New York. Since we have 16 players on our roster, we needed to cut somebody. Rasheed Wallace was told that he will not be playing for the Rockets and is free to pursue a deal with any team in the league.

Eisley attempted to trade Marcus Morris to every team in the league, but they all said the same thing: they weren’t willing to take on his contract. Does Eisley cut the dead weight or hold on to him and try to deal him in the offseason when he becomes an expiring contract?

November 12, 2012

Houston Rockets (1-5) vs. Los Angeles Lakers (3-1)

On national television, the Houston Rockets go in to the Staples Center and stun the Lakers 124-116 in overtime. While Kobe Bryant, Dwight Howard and Pau Gasol combined for 83 points (all 25+), the rest of the Lakers struggled to score. Outside of Dwight’s 21 boards and Pau’s 11, nobody else on the team had more than five.

The Rockets were led by their backcourt, as usual. James Harden went for 29 points (10-29) along with eight boards while Jeremy Lin had a monster game with 29 points of his own to go along with eight boards and 13 assists. Chandler Parsons chipped in with 14 and six while Toney Douglas played his first meaningful minutes to give the Rockets 12 points, three boards and five assists in 21 minutes of action. Royce White broke the double-digit scoring plateau for the first time of his career with 12 points, three boards, an assist, three steals and a block.

Not to be overlooked are Omer Asik and newly acquire Kurt Thomas. They combined for 16 points and seven rebounds, but it was their six fouls each that kept Dwight Howard from getting easy buckets and forcing him to convert at the line.

This is a great win for the young Rockets.

November 15, 2012

Houston Rockets (2-5) vs. Phoenix Suns (4-4)

The Rockets get beaten down by Marcin Gortat who goes for 38 points, 14 rebounds, five steals, five blocks and four assists as he leads the Suns to a 118-110 victory. Omer Asik had a good offensive game against Gortat, scoring a season-high 21 points, but he got destroyed on the other end.

On the bright side, James Harden scored 34 points (13-25) and grabbed seven boards. Jeremy Lin had himself a very good game with 20 points, 12 assists and seven steals. Carlos Delfino had a healthy 12 point, seven rebound performance off the bench to go along with three steals and three assists.

This team has got a long way to go, especially on the defensive side of the floor.

November 17, 2012

Houston Rockets (2-6) vs. San Antonio Spurs (3-4)

The last of the five game road trip ended like most of the others…in a loss. The Spurs won 124-102. The Rockets shot 38% from the floor while San Antonio connected on 51% of their attempts. Player of the game honors went to Tony Park for 29 points, six assists and four boards. DeJaun Blair had 26 and eight while Tim Duncan had 13 and 18 of his own.

Chandler Parsons came out of his slump with 22 points on eight of 14 shooting. Front court bmate Patrick Patterson had 21 and eight while Asik added 13 rebounds of his own. James Harden struggled, needing 17 shots to get his 11 points. Jeremy Lin had another very good stat line of 15 points, six boards and nine assists. Delfino off the bench scored 14 points on 17 shots.

We also learn that Donatas Motiejunas sprained his ankle and will be gimpy for the next few games. His minutes are already limited, so it’s not a huge blow to this team.

November 18, 2012

New Orleans Hornets (2-6) vs. Houston Rockets (2-7)

A little home cookin’ never hurt nobody as the Rockets get back in the win column, beating the Hornets 106-94. Omer Asik will take home player of the game honors as he went for 16 points, 11 boards, three steals and two blocks. The entire starting lineup scored double-figures for the Rockets as well.

On the other side, Rookie of the Year favorite Anthony Davis scored 11 points to go along with his six rebounds and two blocks, but also turned the ball over four times. He’s got a lot of growing up to do, but he’s loaded with potential.

November 20, 2012

Houston Rockets (3-7) vs. Oklahoma City Thunder (4-6)

[Random Number Generator spits out a 25, so Royce White makes the trip with the squad.]

The Thunder have struggled early on as Serge Ibaka and Kendrick Perkins have been healing from nagging injuries. Luckily for them the Rockets were coming to town. After Kevin Durant scored 48 on us in the 3rd game of the season, he follows that up with a 50 spot! You can also add in 11 rebounds for good measure as well. As you would imagine, the Thunder rolled to a 108-86 win.

Harden continues to score at a horrendously inefficient clip, scoring 27 on 10-29 shooting. He is now shooting a solid 38% from the floor on the season en route to his 25.5 points per game. Yuck! After the game, Coach McHale instructs Harden to continue to attack the rim, even if that means sacrificing a few jumpers. He's too good a slasher to settle for so many contested outside shots.

Jeremy Lin had another roller coaster stat line as he goes for 17 points, eight boards and seven assists but also eight turnovers. Asik scores 17, grabs nine boards and swats three shots. The rest of the team left their C-games, let alone A-games, in Houston.

November 22, 2012

Dallas Mavericks (5-6) vs. Houston Rockets (3-8)

The second meeting between these two teams ends just as the first one did: Dirk going off and carrying the Mavs to a win, 112-89. Nowtizki scored 40 points and grabbed 11 boards while Chris Kaman went for 13 and 14 on his own.

The Rockets shot just 37.8% and attempted 17 less free throws. We need to get aggressive going to the rim and creating easy shots for each other. Yes, we can turn into a jump shooting team at times, but we need to make a concerted effort to get into the painted area.

James Harden had 24 while three other Rockets had double-doubles: Chandler Parsons (17-13), Patrick Patterson (16-11) and Jeremy Lin (11-15).

November 24, 2012

Houston Rockets (3-9) vs. Washington Wizards (3-6)

We hit the road to play three and what do you know, Royce White is making the trip yet again! [color="Red"][Random Number Generator popped a 36. When will the luck run out?][/color] Maybe he can finally kick the anxiety about flying and become a full-time participant on the road for this team.

Luckily for the Rockets, we get a rare road win 89-79. James Harden explodes for 30 while Patterson and Asik both rip down 10 boards and combine for four blocked shots. Royce White also scores double-figures with ten points.

The difference in this game was the fast break points, which Houston won 28-18, and bench points which was also in the Rockets’ favor 30-10. Wins are hard to come by so far this season but we need to continue building off the few we have.

November 25, 2012

Houston Rockets (4-9) vs. Orlando Magic (2-10)

Playing back-to-back nights is never an easy thing, but you would think going against the hapless Magic you would put up a fight. Nope, we lost 117-91 and never held a lead all game. We lost the first quarter, and essentially the game, 45-22 and never fought back.

Jameer Nelson went for 26. Afflalo had 19 while Hedo and Big Baby both had 17. Harden went for 19 as well as Delfino. Lin scored 12, dished out nine and turned it over seven times. Asik had another double-double with 12 and 12. Patterson had 13 and 7 while Parsons was non-existent.

Ugh.

Good to see that you have been having such luck with the Royce White number generator, I just hope that James Harden can start shooting at a higher clip, that will definitely make your team more competitive.

Harden has been working under new instruction the last three games. Although a very small sample size, he is shooting 28/55. That's 50% compared to the 38% he was at before. Hopefully this trend continues.

I have gotten lucky with the Royce White number generator, but he isn't playing a huge role for this team just yet so I'm not worried if he misses a trip here or there.

November 27, 2012

Houston Rockets (4-10) vs. Miami Heat (11-2)

The last game of our three-game road trip has us stopping in Miami to take on the defending champs. As one would expect, we got routed 124-100 after losing the first quarter 38-19. Seems like we either get destroyed in the first or last quarter, which needs to stop immediately if we want to be a playoff contender.

LeBron had his way with us going for 41, five assists, four boards, two blocks and a steal. Chris Bosh had 16 and 14 while Wade added 23, six boards and eight assists.

The Rockets were led by Harden’s 23 and Asik’s 18 and 10 double-double. Royce White played solid minutes since the game was out of reach and scored 12 points and grabbed four boards.

November 29, 2012

Indiana Pacers (6-7) vs. Houston Rockets (4-11)

I guess we are a pretty dangerous home team as we throttle the Pacers 110-80. The Pacers shot just 35% from the floor and had 22 turnovers, 11 of which were steals going the other way. I know we were responsible for at least half the turnovers, but need to question if the low FG% was due to bad offense or good defense.

Carlos Delfino is the man of the night with a 23-point performance (5 of 7 from deep) off the bench to go along with four boards, three steals, two assists and a block. Jeremy Lin had 20 points and eight assists. Chandler Parsons had 14 but zero rebounds. Asik failed to score a point but had seven boards. James Harden only had 11 points on 4/14 shooting in 26 minutes of play, but he was in foul trouble. Big Royce had 10 points and seven rebounds in garbage time.
