It's All In The Blood: The Tigner Family Coaching Story

Tigner: (walks into the UNC-Chapel Hill AD's office)

Terry Grimes (Athletic Director of North Carolina): Well, hey Stu, how ya doin'?

Stu: Not bad for a city boy from Charlotte. How are the kids?

Grimes: They're growing so fast, my freakin' head's spinning.

Stu: LOL. Now about the head coaching position?

Grimes: Oh yeah, you know there's this little thing called, oh, what's it called again Phil?

Phil Messer (3rd Assistant Coach of North Carolina): The NCAA Tournament.

Grimes: That's right, the NCAA Tournament. It's not the NIT, but they're making it out as the greatest thing since sliced bread, which means we need you to lead this program to it's first-ever National Championship. . . in the first-ever NCAA Tournament.

Tigner: Dang, that's big!

Grimes: I know, son, but we need hope, our budget is suffering, our fanbase is suffering, we don't know who the heck we are. We may have won the Helms title in 1924, but deep in the Great Depression, that is still not enough to keep this boat afloat! We need somebody like you, a heck of a basketball coach, a leader, and a real man.

Tigner: (Contemplates his decision) Then I'm your man.

Awesome. I've been thinking about doing a similar dynasty to play with the coaching lineage thing, so it will be interesting to see how this plays out.

As an aside, how do you actually "pass on the torch" to a coach? I can see how you can create a coach who is mentored by your current coach, but I can't see any instructions on how to continue to playing the game as the new coach instead of the old one. Is there a link to a post on this forum that describes how this feature is supposed to work?

We play (16), unranked Murray State in tha Coaches Classic. It's tha first game of tha season so it's anybody's ballgame.

86-69. Murray State killed us 11-2 in tha early goin' before we seized control, leadin' 51-26 at halftime an' eventually winnin' tha game.

North Carolina 1-0

We're playing (9), unranked Tennessee in tha quarterfiner. They upset (8), #18 Xavier in tha 1st round. Tha winner plays either (4) Ohio State r' (5) Indianer.

93-71. Another dominatin' performance by TarHeelia! Leading 53-26 at tha half, we continued to run up tha score an' bulldoze tha Volunteers. There was certainly a hefty amount of passin' in this game, as both teams combined fer 35 assists (North Caroliner 20, Tennessee 15). Jakari Gaston scored 36 points fer UNC.

North Carolina 2-0

On to tha semifiner to hook up wit' (5) #17 Indianer, whom we will face again later on this season.

92-84. Hoosier fans believed. At halftime we had committed 16 fouls to Indianer's 6, resultin' in IU shootin' 18-23 from tha charity stripe, compared to our 5-8 outing, an' a 47-43 Indiana halftime edge. Tha game continued to go back-an'-forth, tha lead changin' hands a total a' 24 times an' tha score tyin' 11 times. A series a' free throws iced tha game in Caroliner's favor. Tha final foul count was North Caroliner 26, Indianer 18.

North Carolina 3-0

It is now down to us an' (3) #13 Arizoner (who upset (2) #3 Louisville 74-69 to git' to tha finer, an' a team we'll face in our next game as well) fer tha 1938 Coaches Classic championship.

86-77. We dun' it, man! 1938 COACHES CLASSIC CHAMPIONS! We led 45-33 at tha half an' neva' looked back. It was a very physical game as both teams combined fer 48 fouls (North Caroliner 25, Arizoner 23). I wouldn't wanna be a part a' that rumble! Jakari Gaston, despite tha aforementioned brutal play, scored 33 points fer tha Tar Heels.

North Carolina 4-0

When play resumed in tha second half, however, there were just over half as many fouls as there were in tha first half. The total foul count was 45 (North Caroliner 26, Arizoner 19). Trel Williamson-Proctor was tha man, puttin' up 32 fer our boys in baby blue.

Tha law offices of Gaston and Williamson-Proctor were at it again, tallyin' up 29 an' 26 points respectively.
