Starting From the Bottom

My second season was going to be a challenge with the loss of Elton Duncan, our three time all conference honoree and dominating inside presence. We also lost veteran assistant Brain Nolan to retirement and were in need of a new coach. I interviewed a pair of local high school coaches and Yale's third assistant Brian Clinton before hiring Kevin Alston the head coach at East Connecticut State. Our lone recruit was Cedric Sheffer, a JuCo guard from New York who was a great passer. We had phenomenal backcourt depth which I hoped to use in our uptempo offense. I was forced to kick off walk-on Mark Little, a senior guard who had missed the entire previous season to academic suspension and had a GPA of 1.3. Behind our 5 man senior class I was hopeful for a big season. I was stunned when we were picked 10/10. The two time defending conference champs, returning 4 starters and our entire 27 ppg bench were picked last? I was on a mission for the threepeat. Look out NEC
