Foreign Players Only

Foreign Players Only

I am Akim Nosarrian. I was born and raised in Armenia, the greatest country in the history of the world, populated with the most brilliant people in the history of the world.

I came to the United States to play basketball. I was given a full athletic scholarship by Michigan State University. I played there for four years and I received my B. A. degree in mechanical engineering. I coached there as a graduate assistant while I pursued and completed my Master’s degree in the same subject.

I then realized that I wished to become a basketball coach, and not an engineer. I had no interest in coaching secondary school basketball. I applied for many assistant coaching positions at U. S. universities. I was hired by San Diego State as their third assistant. I did the scouting there.

After four years I moved to Texas State as second assistant. I was the bench coach/practice coach there for four years.

Then I came here to Baltimore, Maryland as the #1 assistant at Coppin ST, charged with recruiting. I served in that capacity for four years. A few weeks ago the head coach here retired and I was offered the position.

Coppin ST has recently committed itself 100% to aligning itself with foreign universities, and to admitting as high a percentage of foreign students as possible. In light of that fact I, being a former foreign student, was told that was why I was hired, and was also told that my program, as all of our other athletic programs, must recruit only students from foreign countries to play basketball here. I accepted the challenge.

We buy the Basic International Scouting report.

My staff is in place. Raoul Benoit, from France, is #1. He will scout. #2, Xi Li, from China, will be my bench/practice coach. #3 Ahmed Ali, from Dubai, will recruit. We are all experienced, especially in the area in which we will coach. Between us we speak 17 languages.

June 26

It will take about three years to get an all foreign team in place.

We have 6 scholarships this year, which is a good start.

We are looking at 20 players, from all over the world, to begin with.

How, you may ask, does a school such as this become involved with such a sophisticated program, such an undertaking as this? As it turns out, Coppin ST hired a President from the Sudan. He came with this agenda, and he convinced the Board of Regents that doing this would bring fame to this university, would “put it on the map” so to speak.

August 21

We offer to 3 guards and 3 big men. All have at least some interest.

September 18

We are close with a couple of our recruits.

We have a schedule.

Kris Weem, C #103 from Israel commits.

PG Bren Lemo, #65, from Brazil, and C Cap Biss, #63 from Canada have committed.

October 2

First day of practice. I really have no idea what to expect.

We’re picked to finish 7th in the conference. There are 13 teams in our conference.

October 9

Amir Kaba, #162, PG from Saudi Arabia has committed.

November 6

Given the conference we’re in we may not do so badly. Of course expectations are low- don’t finish last, win 10 games. This year and next, as we transition to an all foreign lineup, we will do what we can, but there is little pressure.
Here is our lineup: Junior Bret Gray and soph Matt Wood start at guard with junior Lat Eld backing up. Soph Al Pell is at SF, and seniors Dave Koss and Quin Edds start inside. Senior Hal Fann backs up the bigs. So we will lose our entire front court to graduation.

November 20

66-57 over GA ST here. PF Dave Koss had 19, 6, SF Al Pell had 17, 11. 42 RBs.

69-54 over Penn here. 12, 12 for Pell, 14 for guard Matt Wood. 36 RBs.

You ask about my family. I have none here. My parents and my brother live in Armenia. I hope to marry one day, and to have children, but it must be an Armenian woman, and there are few of them here.

November 27

61-53 over Northern Kentucky. 15, 8 for Koss, 15 for center Quin Edds, 11 for Pell.

69-67 in overtime in our first road game, at Lipscomb. We gave away a 17 point lead but came back in overtime to barely win. 24, 4, 2, 3 for Pell. 8 and 12 for Hal Fann, our first big man off the bench. Edds was in foul trouble all night and Fann filled in well.

We are doing very well but we do not have a strong schedule. A good record will definitely help with recruiting and I am pleased, but the real challenge begins when we are playing mostly or all foreign players. I hope to have at least 8 on the team next year.

December 4

73-65 at Idaho ST. 15 each for Edds and Kost but Edds fouled out again. 14, 4 for Pell, who has been in double figures in every game.

56-76 at Montana ST. 22 for Pell but no one else did very much. 21 turnovers.

My mother has written to me about a daughter of a friend of hers. The daughter is teaching at the University of Maryland. They would like us to meet. They have contacted the woman and she is willing. I will call her.

December 11

67-42 over North Texas here. 22, 6 for Pell, 14, 7 for edds, 12, 4 for Eld, our first guard from the bench. 7 turnovers, by far our best in that area.

67-46 at Portland ST. 19 for Wood, 12, 6 for Koss, 13 for Pell, 8, 10 for Edds.

We are now 7-1. I am wonderfully surprised.

December 18

61-58 over UMBC here. It was close all the way. 26 for Pell, and that was the difference. 11, 6 for Koss.

55-66 to Seattle here. 20 for Pell, 10, 5 for Koss, 1, 6 for Eld from the bench.

December 25

21, 5 for Pell, 10, 9 for Koss, 10, 6, 3, 2 for Edds.

During our long home stand I called the woman, Nessie. She is a professor of European history, 28 years old. Very Armenian. I like her. We had lunch, and then dinner on a second visit

January 1, 2021

60-54 over Morgan ST here. 23, 5 for Pell. 14 turnovers which is better than we have been doing.

78-66 over FL A & M here. 33 for Pell, 12, 6 for Edds, 11 for Wood. 10 turnovers.

Bret Gray hurt his hand. Not serious, day to day.

These were our first MEAC conference game.

Our pre-conference record was an excellent 9-2. +7.1 PPG, +5.9 RBPG, -1.6 TOPG. 15.6 TOPG is too many. We are slightly accelerating our offensive pace.

Nessie Agajanian was born in 1992 in Armenia. She came to U. S., as I did, to study. We have seen each other three times. I think I will marry her.

January 8

49-65 at Bethune-Cookman. 16, 7 for Pell, 9, 5, 3 for Edds, but 21 turnovers. So far, when we score 60 we win, less than 60 we lose.

63-73 at Hampton. 23, 5 for Pell. 23 turnovers.

January 15

72-76 to MD Eastern Shore, here. 23 for Pell, 12, 11, 3 for Edds, 10, 7 for koss. 17 TOs and very little production from the guards.

63-53 over Delaware ST here. 19 for Pell, who leads the MEAC with 19.9 PPG.

We have already exceeded one of our two goals. We have 12 wins. We are in 6th place of 13 so I do not think we will finish last. That means we will exceed our other goal.

One game this week.

January 22

45-40 at FL A & M. Very sloppy game, 20 turnovers to 24 for them. 15 for Wood, 12 for Pell.

Nessie says it is far too soon to speak of marriage. Later she said her wedding must be in Armenia. I am not certain that the two statements are connected. Our families are both in Ashotzk.

January 29

64-49 at 1st place Norfolk ST. 14, 8, 2 for Koss, 15, 4 for Pell, 13, 5 assists for Wood. 10 TOs.

60-49 over Savannah ST here. 28, 3, 4 for Pell, 13, 10 for Koss, 17 rebounds for Edds. 43 RBs, 10 TOs.

All of our recruits, and all the ones we are pursuing hit our SAT score. It is only 820, so we expected this.

March 1

We received a bye in the first round of the tournament. #7 seed North Carolina A & T, 16-12, 8-8, won the play in game. They beat us there, in that ridiculous 35-46 game.

March 2

54-35 over NC A & T. The ridiculous score was theirs this time. 17, 8 for Koss, 10, 9, 4 for Pell, 9, 7 for Edds. 40 rebounds, 13 turnovers.

We play #3 seed Norfolk ST, 14-14, 11-5. We beat them by 15 there.

March 3

66-61 in overtime over Norfolk ST. No one ever led by more than 9. Matt Wood hit a 20 footer to tie at the end of regulation, and then we took over. 20 for Wood, 12, 6 for Pell. +10 rebounds. We won despite 22 turnovers (They had 17).

We play for the title! #4 seed MD Eastern Shore, 18-11, 10-6, beat the #1 seed. We lost to them by 4 here, and then won by 12 there. We are much stronger inside but they are stronger outside and have a much better bench.

March 4

48-58. Sub forward Hal Fann led us with 14 and 6. They played strong defense. 19 turnovers did not help our cause.

Our RPI is #66. We hope this will be good enough to get us into the NIT or the CHI. The RPI will change once more before selection day.

Nessie came to the last two tournament games. That meant a great deal to me.

March 12

RPI is #60.

We are the #5 seed in the Midwest in the NIT tournament. We play 20-8 Central CT ST. They have a very strong bench and a good backcourt. We must beat them inside.

March 13

76-58! 30 for Pell, 12, 5, 2 for sub guard Lat Eld, 11 each for Koss and Edds. +7 rebounds, +7 turnovers.

We play #1 seed Cal ST Northridge, 23-6, next. Once again, if we hope to win the game must be played inside.

March 15

80-65! 25, 5 for Pell, 16 for Wood. 12 turnovers. This was the most points we scored all season.

Matt Wood sprained a finger. I doubt that he will play again this season. Lat Eld will start, and Dal Will will sub.

March 19

It is a return match with Penn in the round of 8. We beat them by 15 at home during the first week of the season.

March 20

54-65. 23 for Pell. The difference was bench play, 33-14. Missing Wood certainly hurt us.

March 29

South Carolina ST won the CHI.

April 4

#3 Ohio ST beat #7 Kansas by one point to win the title.

Awards: Al Pell is POY, and 1st team, as should be; he is a sophomore. Senior Dave Koss also makes 1st team. Senior Quin Edds makes 2nd team. I have the honor of being named COY.

April 23

We filled all but most of our roster spots.

We finish the season 24-9, 11-5, RPI #59. This is very good! My numbers: Off- 23, Def- 35, Recruit- 36, Scout- 61, Player Dev- 29, Reputation- 22.

We ask for a budget increase. We get $2,000. It is not much but we will take it.

Nessie has done me the honor of accepting my proposal of marriage. We will fly to Armenia to be married there in early August of this year.

I can't believe this. The freakin' game crashed! Unsaveable. None of the backups work- nothing. This hasn't happened since DDS:CB2.

Wayne, what operating system are you now using on your computer? Win 7, Win 8, or Win 10? Did you change recently?

The computer I was playing on crashed so I switched to a different one, starting this new dynasty. Windows 10. I've had 10 on this computer for a while. BUT, I haven't played the game on this computer, at least since I put 10 on it.

Yeah, I was wondering about Win 10 and whether that might be causing problems with CB3. I have kept it on a computer that has Win 7 but was considering upgrading the computer to Win 10. Hmmm.

I have another computer this is new and is Win 10, so maybe I will install CB3 on that one and see if any problems occur.
