January 1, 2022

60-47 over FL A & M here. 16 each for Baca and Camp, 11, 6 for Lute. We held them to 27.8%, which made up for mediocre ball handling and rebounding.

74-45 at Savannah ST. 16 each for Baca and Henk, 11 for Cech. We played very well tonight.

Nessie and I did not make it to midnight on New Year’s Eve. She feels well, has had no morning sickness. Says she is a little tired, but not bad. I have been working long hours. It was good that we went to sleep early.

Only one game this week.

January 8

57-39 over MD Eastern Shore. 27 for Baca despite the fact that he fouled out in 21 minutes. 10 TOs (+10), but only 18 RBs (-10). Very good defense again.

January 15

56-43 at NC A & T. 29 for Baca, 12 RBs for Lute. +13 RBs. 19 TOs but they had 20.

48-36 over Howard here. 25, 5, 3, 2 for Baca. 7 TOs.

5 games in a row (All 5 MEAC games) where we have given up 47 or fewer points.

January 22

47-61 at FL A & M. 23 turnovers did us in. 21 for Baca, 12 rebounds for Lute. First time in conference play that we give up more than 47 points.

73-66 over Savannah ST here. 39 for Baca, a new high. 7, 11 for Lute. We survived 21 TOs.

January 29

54-56 at South Carolina ST. 16, 7, 4, 2 for Baca, 17 for Henk. We led by 14 late in the first half. Our first half defense was very good but it was terrible in the 2nd.

85-60 over Bethune-Cookman here. 30 for Baca, 14, 6 for Poch, 12, 7 for Lute, 14 for Henk.

February 5

56-36 over Hampton here. 25, 5 for Baca. 12 TOs. A one game week. We are 16-5, 8-2.

February 12

55-67 at Norfolk ST. 28 for Baca but he received very little help. 10 TOs.

54-61 in OT at Delaware ST. We were behind by 16 early in the second half and came all the way back to tie at the end of regulation, but we ran out of energy in overtime. 16 for Baca, 10, 4, 3, 2 for Camp, 11 for Henk, 8 and 8 for Poch. 22 turnovers hurt our cause.

We are 16-7, 8-4, alone in 3rd place.

February 19

84-65 over North Carolina A & T. 27, 5, 2, 3 for Baca, 19, 10, 2 for Poch, 14 for Cech. 9 TOs.

66-49 at NC Central. 22, 2, 3, 3 for Baca, 17, 5, 4 for Camp, 16, 8 for Poch.

We are in 3rd place, 2 games behind 1st and 2nd, 2 games ahead of 4th.

Nessie remains healthy and active with approximately 3 ½ months to go.

February 26

58-41 over a very good Morgan ST team here. 18, 3, 2 for Baca, 12, 9, 3 for Lute. 7 TOs, 33 RBs.

67-59 at Hampton. 34 for Baca, 10, 7, 2, 2 for Camp, 6, 18 for Lute. +15 RBs.

We end the regular season 20-7, 12-4, in 3rd place. Baca is 3rd in the country in scoring.

March 2

We play Hampton in the quarter final round of the MEAC tournament.

March 3

65-49 over Hampton. 27 for Baca, 7, 8, 4 for Camp. +8 RBs.

#2 seed Morgan ST, 21-7, 13-3 in the semifinal. We just beat them by 17 last week.

March 4

73-57. 33, 7 for Baca, 8, 4, 5 for Camp.

#5 seed FL A & M in the final. We won by 13 here, lost by 14 there so it is anybody’s game.

March 5

71-69 in overtime for the title! Incredible game. Their PG had 33 but Baca had 39. 10, 8, 7, 2 for Camp, who hit the winner with less than 2 seconds left.

With an RPI of #59 we would have gone to a tournament anyway, but now it’s the big one!

March 12

RPI is #51, 23-7, 12-4, tournament title. 12 seed?

Not in the East.

Not in the Midwest.

#13 in the South. We play #4 seed, #22 ranked Iowa, 21-10. Their starting C tore his Achilles, 6 games ago but they are 5-1 since then.

March 17

59-68. 26 for Baca, 12, 10 for Lute. 19 TOs. They were the better team.

We decide to drop what would be our only non-foreign player on next year’s squad, Dar Camp. Now we will be all foreign next year. The only other domestic players this year were seniors, Al lute and Mike Henk.

April 4

I do not go to the Final Four.

#3 Illinois beats #1 Kentucky for the title.

PG Brey Prou, #493, signs.

Awards: Ande Baca is POY, freshman OY, 1st team. Senior Al Lute is defensive POY, 2nd team. I have the honor to be named Coach of the Year.

April 16

We sign the rest of our recruits. We need a good ball handler to emerge from among the signees.

Nessie is big. She says she is uncomfortable and she tires easily, but all in all she feels fine.

April 23

We ask for a facilities upgrade. Approved. When the work is finished we will go from C to B.

It was a wonderful year. 23-8, 12-4. We finished 3rd, and then won our tournament. Final RPI was #51. My numbers: 39-22, .639. Off- 32, Def- 46, Recruit- 56, Scout- 61, Player Dev- 39, Reputation- 25.

I look forward to next season, and to becoming a father.

May 1

We buy the usual International Basic.

June 5

One foreigner, a Croatian in the transfer pool. We do not want him.

Hayk Nosarrian is born. Mother and son are doing fine.

June 26

2 scholarships. We need guards.

July 8

Nessie’s mother and my mother arrive from Armenia to visit. This is the first grandchild on both sides of the family.

July 19

Our mothers return to Armenia. It was nice having them here and they were very happy to visit with the baby- us too, of course.

August 7

Tais Tapa, PG, is #23 on the Norton list. I would have expected Ande Baca to be there but he is not.

August 21

We offer to 2 very good looking PGs. Both have a little interest,

September 18

We change one of the offers to a different player.

We have 6 home, 5 road games on the schedule and we have included some challenging teams.

September 25

No luck with recruits so far.

October 2

First day of practice. We have high hopes!

Hayk is 4 months old and doing very well. He makes our home happy.

November 6

Here is the lineup, for now: Sophomore Ande Baca will play at both guard positions, as well as some at SF. Sophomore Dob Cech and freshman Brez Prou will divide the rest of the guard time about equally. Freshman Tais Tapa will start at SF and he is as big a scorer as
Baca, and an outstanding defender. Freshman Rolf Grik starts at center, and he looks like a very good inside player. Sophomore Apo
Poch will start at PF, and sophomore Ket Joss will back up inside.

Still no luck with recruits. One is close, one fairly close.

November 20

79-59 over Lafayette here, to open the season. 20, 2, 6 for Baca, 19 for Tapa, 14, 3, 3 for Cech. 9 TOs (+8) but only 14 rebounds (-9).

62-34 at #25 Wake Forest. 20, 9 for tapa, 15, 4, 2 for Baca, 6, 12 for Grik, 7, 5, 4 for Cech, 4, 8 for Poch, 6, 4, 4 for sub Brez Prou, 4, 3, 3 for sub Ket Joss. 45 rebounds. We played extremely well. This team has many weapons. Cech is a very good scorer so we have three outside scorers.

November 27

72-56 over Mississippi here. 27, 8 for Tapa, 13, 5, 2 for Poch, 11, 4, 6 for Baca, 7, 6 for Grik. Again, lots of balance. 9 TOs, 33 RBs.

Apo Poch hurt his ankle. He will miss one game or two.

75-35 over George Washington here. 20, 6, 4 for guard Brez Prou, 14, 5, 4 for Baca, 8, 14, 2 for Grik, 10, 6 for Tapa, 9, 4, 5 for Cech, 8, 4 for sub Waso, 6, 4, 2 for

Joss, starting for Poch. 44 RBs. Again, we have many weapons.

We had a very nice Thanksgiving. While this is an American holiday it is always good to celebrate and to give thanks!

Hayk is almost 6 months old. He is big and strong for his age.

December 4

79-77 in overtime at Kennesaw ST. This was a close game all the way. Baca made a 23 foot shot to tie at the end of regulation, and Cech made a 19 foot shot for the win. 17 each for Baca and Cech, 14,8, 2, 2 for Grik, 12 for Prou. 13 turnovers but only 24 rebounds.

Sub Deja Popo hurt his back. Out for about a week. Poch is healthy again.

Waso has played so well he will start but Poch will get nearly as much time.

80-52 at Arkansas Little Rock. It was close throughout the first half but we dominated the second. 41 for Baca, 12 for Prou, 10 for Tapa, 10 RBs for Grik. 10 turnovers.

We are 6-0, RPI #7.

December 11

55-59 to Missouri ST here. 13, 8 for Grik, 15 for Cech. Baca played only 9 minutes due to fouls. We did not play terribly, just not very well. It was inevitable that we would lose, I suppose.

67-45 over Western Michigan here. 16, 3, 2 for Cech, 13, 8, 2 for tapa, 12 for Baca. 7 turnovers.

December 18

68-63 over UMBC here. 18, 8 for Grik, 12, 3, 4 for Tapa, 11 for Baca.

68-62 at Alabama ST. Balanced scoring, good ball handling, poor rebounding.

We will close out the pre-conference season at 6-2 West Virginia. This could be a challenge.

December 25

66-55 at West Virginia. 21, 6, 4 for Baca, 8, 10, 2, 2, 2 for Grik, 14 for Cech, 12, 8 for Tapa. 8 TOs, 34 RBs.

10-1 for pre-conference play. +15.8 PPG, +3.0 RBPG, +2.1 TOPG. RPI #11.

We had a nice holiday. Hayk is too young to know what is going on but he enjoyed it none the less.

January 1, 2023

74-55 here over Delaware ST to begin conference play. Another night of balanced scoring and good ball handling- 5 turnovers.

72-63 at 10-2 Savannah ST. 30, 2, 4 for Baca, 15, 3, 3 for Prou, 13 for Tapa. Only 18 RBs.

With a baby in the house Nessie and I made no attempt to be up until midnight to greet the new year.

January 8

82-75 at South Carolina ST. 29 for Tapa, 20 for Baca, 15 for Prou. 5 TOs, -2 RBs.

Ande Baca hurt his back. Day to day.

62-66 to Howard here. All 5 starters in double figures. This was lost on fouls. They were 26-33, we were 8-16. First, we should certainly have made 3-4 more free throws, second, the disparity in calls was terrible. Baca and Cech both fouled out (late in the game).

Our only 2 losses this season have been at home.

January 15

66-82 at Bethune-Cookman. 22, 7, 5, 2 for tapa, 16, 3, 5, 2 for Baca.

The most points we have allowed all year. We allowed them to shoot 58.8%.

67-42 over Morgan ST here. 16 for Waso, 14 each for Tapa and Baca. 6 turnovers.

January 22

71-65 at North Carolina Central. 16 each for Tapa and Cech. 13 for Baca, who fouled out. His back up, Prou, also fouled out. 11 TOs. A good road win!

It was a one game week.

59-53 at FL A & M. 17, 5, 5, 2 for Tapa, 16, 5 for Grik.

Another good road win over a top MEAC team.

January 29

We are 16-3, 6-2, alone in 2nd place, RPI #26.

65-47 over NC A & T at home. Balanced scoring, +6 TOs, +4 RBs.

Tapa is #15 on the Norton list.

February 5

63-69 at Morgan ST. 19 for Tapa, 15, 6, 2 for Baca. Too many turnovers, too many fouls.

73-40 over Norfolk ST. 5 in double figures. +17 rebounds.

February 12

67-43 over Bethune-Cookman here. 26 for Baca, 14, 3, 2, 2 for Tapa. 11 TOs.

58-69 at Hampton. Poor defense (51.2%), poor ball handling (21 TOs).

3 behind 1st place, 1 ½ ahead of 3rd, with 3 to play.

Tapa is #17 on the Norton list.

February 19

67-64 at NC A & T. 32 for Baca. 20 TOs did not help but we did enough.

83-47 over MD Eastern Shore here to clinch 2nd place. 1st place Savannah ST has lost once in the MEAC- to us. 26 for Prou, 15, 7 for Tapa, 11 for Joss. 6 TOs.

February 26

67-65 over NC Central here. 17 for Baca, 11, 8, 2 for Poch, who played a great deal because of Tapa’s injury. Good performances by several others to overcome the loss of our best player. 12 TOs.

Tapa strained his abdominals. Out for about a week. He should be all right for our first MEAC tournament game. He was injured in the first minute of tonight’s game and did not return.

We end the regular season at 22-5, 12-4, alone in 2nd, RPI #36. +12.0 PPG, +1.2 RBPG, +2.7 TOPG, +4.5 Assists PG, +0.8 Steals PG.

March 5

March 7

75-55 and the title! 27 for Baca, 12, 5 for Waso, 11 for Prou, 9, 6, 3 for Cech, 9, 5 for Tapa. They doubled Tapa, and Baca and the others made them pay. 13 TOs, 29 RBs.

25-5, 12-4, the title, RPI #27, and we are ranked! #24.

March 12

Not in the East.

Not in the Midwest.

Not in the South.

#7 West. We play #10 Houston, 18-12.

March 17

77-51 over Houston in the 1st round of the NCAA tournament. 20, 2, 4 for Baca, 16, 12 for Grik, 10, 7 for Cech, 13, 1, 6 for Prou. 5 TOs, 36 RBs.

#15 seed Texas Southern, 20-10, upset #2 seed Illinois so we will play them.

March 19

68-50 over Texas Southern. 24 for Baca, 14, 6 for Waso, 11, 3, 4 for Tapa, 6, 12 for Grik, 8, 8, 7 for Cech. 10 TOs, 35 RBs.

And we are in the Sweet Sixteen! We play #3 seed, #9 ranked Louisville, 27-7, and the best team we have faced all season. This will be a great challenge.

March 24

63-86. they were simply too good. 18, 4, 2, 3 for Baca, 16, 5, 3 for Tapa. -8 TOs, -4 RBs. What a fantastic season!

March 26

We finally get a commitment. Albe Nowk, Sf, #212.

April 4

May 1

The usual international basic.

June 5

No foreign transfers of interest.

June 26

Three to fill. We’d like 2 and 1 either way.

Nessie is expecting again, in December.

August 7

Tais Tapa is #24 on the Norton list.

August 21

We offer to 2 bigs and a PG. They all have some interest but are all top 50 players so we will probably be lucky to land even one of them.

September 18

We have lost one recruit. We feel we are close with two others.

A bit more of a challenging schedule this year.

September 25

We got one, Vale Lebd, PG #33. He looks great! We lost 2 more.

October 2

We have 9 players who look like they could start.

October 9

Got the other two: Jin Peng, PG, #523, and Prei Panc, PF, #378.

November 6

Here is the lineup: Junior Ande Baca and soph Brez Prou will start at guard, supported by junior Dob Cech, who started last season. Sophomore Tais Tapa returns at SF. Junior Heno Phis and sophomore Rolf Grik start inside, backed up by juniors Apo Poch and Rupi Waso, and freshman Albi Nowk. There will undoubtedly be changes.

Nessie is having no more trouble with this pregnancy than she had with the last one.
