Detroit. A Franchise on the Rise

Detroit. A Franchise on the Rise

After a 34-38 2014-15 season and a 47-35 2015-2016 season with a first round loss against Miami, Detroit returns with a revamped roster looking to make some noise in the postseason.
Sportswriters have us ranked 3rd in the east behind young Orlando and Philly teams and also 1 spot ahead of Cleveland’s big 3.

NBA Draft:
1. PF Andre Arnold LAL
2. C Craig Iacona CHI
3. C Nate McArdle SAS
4. SF Shawn Wilde CHA
5. PG Ross Childress DAL

2016-17 Detroit Pistons Lineup:

11: Brett Jones PF R
12: D.J. Augustin PG

Detroit was 28th in the league in points per game last year so we’ll see if the new lineup will be more effective on offense.
Detroit ranked #1 in points allowed at just 91.1, but with the departure of Paul Millsap this category should regress a bit.

Oct 31st Detroit @ Cleveland 92-80 (1-0) Drummond 19 pts 15 reb

Detroit started a strong 8-1 and then faltered to a 4-4 record for the rest of the month.
We sit 3rd in the conference behind 13-1 Philadelphia and 12-4 Cleveland.
2nd Year player Mike Lancaster is shooting a dismal 33% from the field and will quickly be traded

Well it didn’t take long to find someone to take Lancaster off my hands… of course I had to screw my Lakers in the process.

Lakers Gets:
SG Mike Lancaster
PF Brett Jones

Detroit Gets:
SG Evan Fournier
2017 and 2019 First Round Picks

Big Big upgrade for our sixth man and the 2 first rounders are just icing. I don’t know what LA sees in Lancaster but at 9-8, they are in for a bit of a slide without their starting shooting guard.

Dec 1st Detroit @ Milwaukee 81-91 (12-6) Drummond 26 pts 18 reb
34.5% shooting… bad game

Dec 2nd Indiana vs Detroit 86-92 (13-6) Drummond 24 pts 15 reb

Dec 6th Cleveland vs Detroit 88-98 (14-6) Drummond 24 pts 19 reb

Dec 8th Atlanta vs Detroit 84-94 (15-6) Drummond 22 pts 13 reb
Beal had 10 pts 10 ast and 7 reb… another near triple double

Dec 10th Detroit @ Golden State 102-93 (16-6) Beal 21 pts 12 ast 9 reb. 3rd near miss already.
Drummond 18 pts 17 reb

Dec 12th Detroit @ Sacramento 101-105 (16-7) Drummond 20 pts 12 reb

Dec 13th Detroit @ Phoenix 120-94 (17-7) Drummond 16 pts 11 reb

Dec 16th Chicago vs Detroit 84-94 (18-7) Lawson 31
Ty has been struggling but finally had a great game

Dec 18th Detroit @ Washington 103-96 (19-7) Drummond 19 pts 20 reb
Beals return to Washington

Dec 20th Detroit @ Toronto 111-121 (19-8) Lawson 17 pts 12 ast

Dec 22nd Detroit @ New York 114-110 (20-8) Drummond 22 pts 14 reb
Double Overtime

Dec 23rd LA Clippers vs Detroit 77-102 (21-8) Beal 21 pts 5 reb 5 ast

Dec 26th Portland vs Detroit 109-103 (21-9) Beal 26 pts 10 reb 7 ast.
4th near triple double on the season for Beal

Dec 30th Milwaukee vs Detroit 108-116 (22-9) Beal 24 pts 7 reb

Detroit went 10-4 in December. Another solid month with Beal starting to heat up.
Lawson is 37% but has been raising it throughout the season. We sit second in the conference behind 27-3 Philly and just ahead of 20-10 Cleveland. Out west Houston and Oklahoma City are atop the conference at 22-8 and 22-9 respectively.

Great win over the best team in the conference right now. Ty Lawson broke his nose and won’t be 100% for some time. Damn right when he was getting into a rhythm too. Drummond also has a nagging ankle sprain that will limit him for a week or two.

SF Shane Bryant -former #1 pick in 2015

Signed PF Taj Gibson to max MLE with a player option

Fired Stan Van Gundy and hired Brad Stevens

2017-2018 Detroit Pistons Line-Up:
PG: Mike Conley
SG: Bradley Beal
SF: Shane Bryant
PF: Taj Gibson

10 SF DeMarre Carroll
11 C Kyle O’Quinn

DL SF Larry Aygar
DL PF Kosta Bolic R

With a new coach and improved depth the Pistons will look to last a whole season rather than burning out halfway through. Conley, Gibson, and Bryant all improve the starting units defense which is key for my system. Andre Drummond will look to take the next step forward and make it know that he is the best center in the league now.. if only he could improve his horrendous free throw shooting.
