Walk on dynasty

Wayne: I think you've proven that the walk-ons for CB2016 are still too good and need to be further toned down by Gary. The results of this dynasty are unrealistic. :(

I hope Gary is aware of this.

5/1: Finally in Conf. U! My all walk on team advanced!

9/18: We have a schedule.

10/2: First day of practice. Some good looking new guys and a solid core returning. We hope to advance again! Let’s see how high we can climb! OVR: 3.5-1, 3-2, 2.5-7, 2-4.

11/6: 9 man rotation but I expect LOTS of changes. Juniors Juan Gadz and Ty Jonn start at guard, backed by senior Tip Kean and junior Greg Aby.

Soph Bat Bay is at SF.

Inside it’s senior Ryan Diel and junior Jim Hoy. Backing up at 3, 4, 5 are senior Dave Nagy and soph Cam Fitz, both of whom have started in the past and may again.

11/20: 2-0. Our guards won the first one for us- 54 points among the four of them in a 3 point home win. In the road game the guards again carried the load- 44 of 61 points. Jim Hoy is the only insider player doing much of anything. We’ll give the bigs another game or two before we start tinkering, and we ARE winning. Oh, we’re rebounding, +4.0, just not scoring inside.

11/27: 3-1. We won at home. Ty Jonn, averaging 19.0, had 23, but the bigs did some scoring. Hoy had 22, Bay 10, Nagy 6, in an easy win (18 points). Then we went on the road and lost in OT. 36 outside, 29 inside, so the balance is coming. We could have won this game.

12/4: 4-2, 1-1 week. Big win at home, close loss on the road. 22, 6 for our leader, TY Jonn, 21, 3 for SF Bat Bay in the win. Only scored 54 in the loss (by 7). Jonn, Gadz, and Hoy were the only guys who did anything.

12/11: Another 1-1 week and we’re 5-3. Tip Kean had 32 from the bench in the win, and Ty Jonn had 7, 7, 10, 3. As with the last road loss, only 54 points.

12/18: 1 game week. We beat UMass Lowell there, by 12. 20 for Jonn.

12/25: 7-3, RPI #. One game week again, at home. 19 point win. 20, 5, 3, 2 for Jonn, 14, 4 for Hoy, 11, 8, 4, 2 for Fitz from the bench.

1/1/’20: Another home win. It was close, 2 points. 26 for Jonn, 17, 4 for Nagy from the bench, 12, 5 for Hoy.

We finish pre-conf. play at 8-3, RPI #102. +7.6 PPG, +4.3 RBs, +0.6 TOs (13.8).

Cam Fitz strained a hamstring in our last game but I think he’ll be okay for our next game.

1/8: We start conf. play 1-1. Easy home win with Jonn getting 18, 5, 4, Kean and Hoy 13 each. 4 point road loss. 28, 6, 2 for Jonn but he got little help.

1/15: 2-0 this week, one home, 1 away. 15, 3 for Hoy, 10, 8 for Fitz, 11, 2 for Gadz in the home win. In the road win Jonn had 14, 4, 3, Diel 9, 9, 2, Kean 14.

11-4, 3-1, RPI #69. 4 way tie for 1st in Conf. U. We’re looking very good right now.

Fitz hurt his back. Out two weeks.

1/22: 1-1 week. An easy home win with Nagy getting 17, 11, 3. 15, 2, 4, 3 for Gadz, 16, 4 for Hoy, 16, 3, 2 for Bay.

19, 4, 3, 3 for Jonn in a road loss. We have trouble scoring on the road; 59 tonight.

12-5, 4-2, RPI #85. 1 back of 1st.

1/29: 2 home wins. The 1st game was close. We went to OT and dominated that, 14-6. 5 in double figures, and Bay had 8 and 5.

We won the 2nd by 8. 6 in double figures in this one.

Fitz is back.

At the halfway point in conf. play we’re playing well. 14-5, 6-2, RPI #52. Still 1 back of 1st, in a 2 way tie for 2nd. 5 teams 1 back of us. +7.3 PPG, +2.6 RBs, +2.4 TOs.

2/5: 1-1. We lost on the road then beat the 1st place team at home. So still 1 back. 15 for Kean, 11 each for Jonn and Gadz in the road loss, but we were never really in it, getting beat up inside.

Then we won by 9 vs. the conf. leader. 18, 4, 3, 2, 2 for Hoy, and 3 others in double figures in a game where we led all the way.

15-6, 7-3, RPI #55.

2 on the road this week. We need a split.

2/12: We got the split. 16-7, 8-4, RPI #49. Still 1 back, tied with 2 other teams. In the win, 26, 5, 3 for Jonn, 16, 4 for Nagy, 15, 5 for Hoy, 10, 5, 4 for Gadz. The loss was ugly, and again, not enough points and poor inside play.

We have 2 at home, 2 on the road left but the road games are with weak teams. We could close 4-0, and less than 3-1 would be very disappointing.

2/19: 2-0.

Our guards gave us the first win, at home. 21 for Jonn, 16, 6 for Gadz. Good bench play.

15 point road win. 25 for Jonn, 20 for Gadz, 12, 8, 2 for Fitz. 10 RBs for Nagy.

2/26: 2-0 and we end up alone in 1st! 20-7, 12-4, RPI #37.

In the home win Hoy had 21, 7, 3, 2, Jonn had 20, 7, 6, 3, Gadz had 12, Nagy had 8, 10.

On the road we won by 7. 19, 4, 2, 2 for Gadz.

We end the regular season 18-7, 10-4, RPI #45. We’re in a 4 way tie for 1st with 2 to play. +5.2 PPG, +2.3 RBs, +2.3 TOs.

3/1: #8 seed Cornell, 13-15, 8-8, won the play in so we play them in the quarter final game.

3/2: 78-76. Whew! Close all the way. It came down to the last possession. Gadz got it to Jim Hoy who used a pick and roll to get open and sink a 14 footer with 0.6 left. He had 23, 3, 3. 17, 2 for Kean, 14, 4,
2 for Gadz. 9, 3 for Fitz.

#4 seed St. Francis, 13-15, 10-6, in the semis. The #2 and #3 seeds both were beaten.

3/3: 78-63. 21, 3, 2, 3 for Hoy, who is really taking charge in the tourney. 12, 4, 8, 3 for Jonn, 14 for Gadz. Good bench play.

It’s #6 seed North Alabama, 16-14, 9-7, for the title. They beat us by 23 there so this is a challenge. A huge factor is that their PG, who is their assist leader and 2nd leading scorer, is out.

3/4: Led by as many as 23. 42-25 at the half.

79-65. Never less than double figures in the 2nd. 18, 4, 5 for Jonn, 16, 5, 4 for Gadz, 10 for Kean, 8, 4, 4, 2 for Fitz.

Conf. U champs and we’re going to the Big Dance!

Do we dare to hope for a 13 seed?

3/12: 23-7, 12-4, RPI #33.

#14 South and we face #3 seed, #6 ranked North Carolina. Disappointing.

3/17: 64-79. We gave it all we had but the talent gap was too wide.20, 5, 3 for Jonn, 12 each for Gadz and Nagy.

4/4: #1 ranked UConn wins it all.

Awards: Juniors Ty Jonn and Jim Hoy make Conf. U 1st team. I get COY.

Team Prestige up to 13.

Two teams with Team Prestige of 29 offer but I’m staying to see this experiment through.

4/23: We ask for a facilities upgrade. Approved! C- to C+.

We are losing 3 who play lots of minutes: Ryan Diel, Dave Nagy, and Tip Kean, and 2 others who don’t play.

Back are: Ty Jonn, Juan Gadz, Jim Hoy, Greg Aby- all juniors, soph Cam Fitz, and a few others who didn’t play much.

23-8, 12-4, regular season and tourney champs in Conf. U, moving up to T.

Overall: 74-47, .612.

Looking forward to another good year!

5/1: A new season.

6/25: 3.5-1, 3-4, 2.5-4, 2-4.

9/18: We have a schedule.

10/2: First day of practice.

11/6: 8 man rotation but a few waiting in the wings; all but one of the 8 are seniors.

At guard Ty Jonn will get all the time he can handle at SG. AT PG and backing up at SG are Juan Gadz and Greg Aby, playing about equally.

Our only junior, Bat Bay, and senior Jam Smix will share the SF spot equally for now.

Inside, Jim Hoy will get all the minutes he can handle. The others will be shared about equally between Roy Hay and Rum Sand.

We expect changes. I WILL say that our all walk on team looked very good in our exhibition games. We’re picked 5th in conf. T but I feel we can do better than that.

11/20: Good first week, 2-0.

67-61 at UMBC. 16, 5, 4, 2 for Center Jim Hoy, 14, 2 for Guard Ty Jonn, 11, 2, 2 for Guard Juan Gadz, 10, 2, 3, 4 for guard Greg Aby. Except for Hoy we got nothing inside.

70-51 at home with Southern. 20 for Jonn, 17 for Gadz. 9, 6 for PF Roy Hay, and 9 for inside sub Rum Sand. We still need more inside.

11/27: 1-1 week. We’re 3-1.

We beat Seattle 73-62 here. Hoy had 12, 9, 2, 2, 2, and Hay had 12, 3. Bay had 9 and Smix 7 at SF, so a little more up front.

72-78 at undefeated Eastern Washington. 14, 5, 3, 2 for Jonn, 11 for Bay, 10, 5 for Smix, 8, 8 for Hay, 7, 2, 7 for Gadz. D lost it for us when we let them shoot 62.5%, mostly inside.

We’re giving Cam Fitz some minutes up front.

12/4: 1-1, 4-2, RPI #187.

64-55 over UNC Asheville here. 12, 4 for Jonn, 8 each for Hoy, Hay, Gadz. 26 from the bench and good D.

53-56 at Stephen F. Austin. We had our chances but 28.8% shooting did us in.

Smix is getting the start at SF. He’s been playing better than Bay.

Our 2nd and 3rd on a 3 game road trip coming up this week. We’d love a split.

12/11: 1-1, 5-3.

Lost 71-82 at IUPUI. 18, 6 for Jonn, 11 for Hay, 10 each for Hoy and Gadz.

76-65 at Savannah ST. 16, 3, 2, 2 for Smix, 11, 7, 6, 2 for Jonn, 14 for Gadz.

Our real strength is forcing TOs. Our opponents average 20 per game (We’re at 13.3).

12/18: One game week. We beat UMass-Lowell 81-51. It was almost all bench, 47 points. 15, 3 for Sand, 11, 4, 4 for Aby, 13, 2, 2 for Bay8, 2, 3 for Fitz. 11, 6, 3, 2 for starter Jam Smix.

12/25: We beat Grand Canyon, there, 69-64. 7-3, RPI #171. 20, 3, 3, 2 for Jonn, 13, 2, 3 for Gadz, 10, 2, 5, 3 for Aby.

1/1/’21: We beat Harvard here, 84-83 in OT. Greg Aby hit a three at the end of regulation to tie it, and hit another one at the end of the OT for the win. 22, 7 for Hay, 15, 5, 2, 2 for Aby, 13, 5 for Sand, 9, 5, 5, 2 for Smix, 9, 5, 2, 2 for Gadz.

We end pre-conf. play 8-3, RPI #139. +6.5 PPG, +0.3 RBs, +5.9 TOs.

1/8: We start with 2 at home and win both. 10-3, 2-0, RPI #114.

79-65 over William and Mary. 22, 5, 6 for Jonn but 7 TOs. 19, 5, 2 for Gadz, 15 for Smix.

58-56 over Jacksonville. 18, 4, 2 including the winner for Jonn.

2 on the road this week. Hoping for a split.

1/15: Got the split. 11-4, 3-1, RPI #116.

68-55 at Binghamton. 17, 5 for Hay, 11, 4, 2 for Jonn.

67-74 at Quinnipiac. 23, 4, 3, 2 for Smix, 21, 3 for Jonn, 9, 4, 2 for Hoy, 11 RBs for Hay. Nothing from the bench, and poor D.

If we give up more than 65 we lose- every time.

1/22: 2 wins. 13-4, 5-1, RPI #109. In a 2 way tie for 1st in T.

We beat Campbell, 83-63, here. 23, 6, 5, 3 for Jonn, but 6 TOs. 19, 8 for Fitz, 13, 4, 5 for Aby. 38 RBs, easily our season best.

80-71 over Portland ST there. 27 for Jonn, 12, 7 for Sand.

1/29: Another 2 win week. 15-4, 7-1, RPI #100, still in a 2 way tie for 1st, with NC Central, who we do not play in the regular season.

74-54 over Mount St. Mary here. 18, 2, 3 for Gadz, 14, 5, 2 for Jonn, 12 each for Smix and Bay.

62-47 at Nicholls ST. Great D! 22, 4, 2, 2 for Jonn, 9, 7, 2 for Hoy, 8, 8 for Hay, 8, 7 for Sand.
