12/30: 90-65 over UNLV here, in the conf. opener. 25, 10, 3, 2, 2 for Leff, 21, 3, 2 for Whet. +10 in both RBs and TOs.

1/1/8: The campaign is going strong. Voting is a month from today.

1/3: 64-77 at Colorado ST. Leff and Dion fouled out in the 2nd half. It had been close up to that point. Shooting 34.5% didn’t help. 18, 5 for Dion, 15 for Kal. The win streak ends at 6.

1/6: 89-60 over Nevada here. 35, 4, 3 for Dion, with 7 threes. +12 RBs, +11 TOs.

1/10: 71-80 at Boise ST. Fouls again- 25-32 for them, 13-16 for us. 28, 4, 2 for Dion.

1/13: 65-53 over Fresno ST here. 20, 4, 3 for Dion. +8 RBs. We need to win on the road.

1/17: 69-57 at San Jose ST. Leff fouled out, but only after getting 19, 13, 3 and 3 blocks. 18, 9 for Dion, 12, 3, 5, 2 for Whet. +10 RBs, +6 TOs. Great to get a road win!

A real logjam in conf. Colorado ST is alone in 1st, we’re one of 5 teams tied for 2nd, 1 game back, and 2 more are 1 game back of us.

The elections are really heating up with about 2 weeks to go. It is clear that some districts are pretty much decided, but not many.

Debates in every district, and each candidate gets 2 hours per week of TV time to use as they see fit. And of course there’s social media.

It’s great that we’re having 100 campaigns and they are costing almost nothing. I hope the Convention keeps that in mind when they finally get down to business.

1/20: 70-51 over San Diego ST here. 25, 13, 2, 4 for Dion, 14, 3, 4 for Whet. +16 RBs.

Colorado ST lost so there is now a 5 way tie for 1st. It’s early though.

1/24: 65-68 to #6 ranked New Mexico here. We were up 15 at the half and got it to 17 twice. Shooting 29.8% was the biggest factor. Leff fouling out in 10 minutes was another. 26, 5 for Dion. We could have, probably should have won this game.

8 days until the first round of the election.

1/27: 69-85 at Weber ST. And that quickly we’re tied for 5th place. They shot 51.9% and we shot 35.7%. 17, 12 for Leff.

1/29: 15-7, 5-4, #20, RPI #17. +8.0 PPG, +4.6 RBs, +4.1 TOs.

Hek Leff is #11 on the Norton list.

1/31: 79-63 at Wyoming. +15 RBs. Balanced scoring and good D. Our Center, Hek Leff, is fouling out of almost every game.

2/2: 39 delegates were elected yesterday, so there will be 61 runoff elections on 2/8. In 11 instances the leading candidate had 47% or more, so those candidates will likely win. It’s more interesting in the other 50 districts.

Ballots were all paper, electronically computed, but with a hand count on 10% as a check. If the hand count differed by more than 1% from the electronic result all of the ballots were hand counted. Rigged and stole elections will simply not happen here. Every possible step was taken to ensure that only those ballots cast on election day, plus legitimate absentee ballots, were counted. We feel the election was conducted honestly.

2/3: 77-62 over Utah ST here. Their SF lit us up for 33 but we let him go and stopped everybody else- it worked. 20 for Dion, 15, 6 for Kal, 14, 4, 3, 3 for Leff, who didn’t foul out for once! 8 TOs (+13)

Bumping up D Intensity from 5 to 7. Let’s see what happens.

2/5: 17-7, 7-4, #19, RPI #15. 2 way tie for 4th, 1 game back of 1st.

2/7: 74-61 at UNLV. 28, 6 for Dion, 14, 3, 5 for Whet, 9, 14 for Leff. +15 RBs, and I think the bumped up D Intensity was a factor.

2/8: 99 delegates elected, one district in Colorado is still recounting. 15 votes separated the 2 candidates the first time, out of more than 1.8 million. And again, we believe our elections are totally honest.

2/9: The election in the Colorado district ended up with a 9 vote margin, but it’s official.

We did not have political parties for this election; everyone ran on their own. A few, but less than 20, of the elected delegates were former office holders from before The Leader took over. Most delegates are political newcomers. They start work on 3/1 and it will be fascinating to see what they come up with.

2/10: 72-46 over Colorado ST here. 18, 7, 6, 5, 3 for Leff, 11, 7, 3 for Kal. +13 TOs. They shot 23.3%. Maybe this Def. Intensity thing is working out.

2/12: 19-7, 9-4, #17, RPI #11. In a 3 way tie for 3rd, 1 back, and 1 up on 5th, with 3 to play.

Hek Leff remains #11 on the Norton list.

A few of the delegates seem to be campaigning for the Chair of the Constitutional Convention.

2/14: 75-71 in OT at Nevada. They led by 13 early in the 2nd. We had trouble making shots until late. Eventually they started to drop. We tied the game at the end of regulation on a three by Al Whet. Then we scored the first 9 in OT. 21, 7, 6, 3 for Dion. +7 RBs. We had 23 TOs, they had 25 in a really sloppy game.

Cam Arn sprained a toe and is out for about a week.

We’re in a 3 way tie for 1st with New Mexico and Weber ST, with 2 to play. We have 10th place Boise ST here, then Fresno ST, tied for 8th, there.

2/17: 71-57 over Boise ST here. 25 for Dion, 18, 10 for Leff, 16, 8 for Hess. +17 RBs, 9 TOs.

Tied with Weber ST for the lead.

2/21: 65-58 at Fresno ST. 17, 6, 3, 5 for Dion, 13, 5, 4 for Kal, 9, 10 for Hess. +10 RBs.

Weber ST lost so we finish the regular season alone in 1st place.

2/26: At the end of the regular season we are 22-7, 12-4, #16, RPI #10. +9.5 PPG, +5.8 RBs, +4.1 TOs. 5-0 since we bumped up Def. Intensity. Fewer fouls, too.

3 candidates have emerged as the seeming frontrunners in the race for Chair of the Convention, a former Governor of Maryland, a political newcomer from the San Francisco district, and a former U. S. Senator from Connecticut. The first is a conservative, the 2nd a moderate, and the third a progressive.

3/1: No chair was selected on day 1 of the convention. Three votes were taken. In the 3rd the candidate from CT had 39 votes, the one for S.F. had 31, and the one from Maryland had 30.

3/2: After the fifth ballot the candidates from CT and SF struck a deal. The former Senator from CT is the new Chair, winning 70-30 on the 6th ballot.

3/6: #8 seed Fresno ST, 14-14, 7-9, won the play in. We play them in the round of 8.

3/7: 58-47. Most foul trouble we’ve had in a long time but great D. 12, 13 for Leff, 14, 6 for Dion. Sloppy game but we had 18 TOs, they had 25.

#4 seed Weber ST, 21-9, 11-5, in the semis.

3/8: 86-65. 24, 9, 5 for Leff, 21 for Stue, 14, 5 for Dion. +11 RBs.

It’s #3 seed, #10 ranked New Mexico, 26-6, 11-5, for the title.

The Convention took care of lots of procedural stuff, keeping most of the basics the same as they were in the original Constitution.

3/9: 85-72 for the title. 5 guys in double figures and another had 9. +7 RBs, +4 TOs. We took an early lead, and led 51-38 at the half.

The Convention agreed to the three branches with essentially the exact same powers and set up that we had before The Leader. But there is a lot of work to be done on rules and procedures in the Congress, and a motion was made to have a unicameral legislation.

The Chair warned that it would be slow going for a while.

3/12: 25-7, 12-4, regular season and tourney champs. #14, RPI #10. Looks like a #3 seed.

#3 South. We play #14 Richmond, 19-12.

3/17: 84-62. 51-28 at the half. 23 for Dion, 19 for Whet, 14, 8 for Leff. +15 TOs.

#11 seed Cincy, 17-13, upset #6 seed, #25 ranked UMass. So they’re next.

3/19: 82-75. Our bench scored 52, with 16 RBs and 5 assists. On a night when the starters were not getting it done, the bench came through. 21, 3, 4 for Stue, 11, 4 for Arn.

First time ever in the Sweet Sixteen and it’s a tough match up- #2 seed, #7 ranked Arizona, 28-4.

3/24: 67-82. They were the better team. Cole Dion was terrific in his last college game, 34 points, but he didn’t get much help. -8 RBs, -6 TOs. No shame in losing to a better team, and this was my best season as a head coach.

There has been a long, complex debate regarding whether to have a Senate and a House, or a unicameral legislature. It is still not resolved. All major issues must pass with 60 votes. No vote has been taken yet.

3/29: 1st vote on the legislature: 51 in favor of a unicameral legislature, 49 for the traditional system. It may take some doing to get one side to 60.

3/31: 50-50 vote. The Chair calls for a two week recess. They’ve been at it for a month, and most or all of them have other jobs, of one kind or another. It was expected that they would meet about 50% of the time. Next meeting in Sacramento on April 15. I’m guessing the Chair also assumes there will be some lobbying by both sides, and that the delegates may come back closer to a resolution.

4/3: #4 Michigan is the champ.

4/4: Awards: Senior Cole Dion and junior Hek Leff make conference 1st team.

I was asked if I would leave the Academy. I like it here- a lot. But now that we have overthrown the dictatorship and are building a new democracy I don’t feel I have to stay. It would take a really good offer, but it is not impossible.

4/9: Ohio ST, Oregon ST, and Texas Tech showed interest. No.

4/15: The Convention is back in session.

4/16: 58 votes for the traditional bicameral legislature.

4/17: Exactly 60 votes for a bicameral legislature. Now come the issues of how. States played no part in the Convention, Will they play a part in representation in the legislature? Expect a long debate.

4/23: We ask for a facilities upgrade. No.

27-8, conf. champs, Sweet Sixteen. My best season ever. Overall, I’m 156-69, .693.
We’re losing Dion, Stue, Whet, and Arn- good players.

5/1: We were not able to hire more than one highly rated coach. The upside? More budget dollars. I’m buying the national gold and the international basic.

5/12: A real battle is breaking out at the Convention. The Confederate states and Bible belt states in the Midwest feel they will be under represented by anything other than the system devised in the 1770s. The rest of the country is leaning toward a Senate with one Senator from each of the districts represented here, and a house represented by the states, and based upon population. U. S. population by state.

5/15: The Convention takes a two week recess. Chairman Murtha has been very skilled at keeping them in session longer than people expected.

6/5: The Convention votes tomorrow on the proposal for Senate 1 per district, House by state population.

6/6: 59 for the proposal, 41 for the traditional.

6/9: Several votes later and no resolution, still 59-41.

6/15: Still no movement.

6/26: 2 scholarships, for now. We need bigs.

Cole Dion was drafted #55. My first draftee.

6/30: Still no decision on this issue. The Chair adjourns until 9/1.

7/31: Reports say that there is lots of “wheeling and dealing” going on among the delegates.

8/7: Hek Leff is #24 on the Norton list.

8/21: We offer to a PF, and to an SG who looks like he could play SF.

Word is that 2 delegates have switched and joined the majority. We’ll see next month.

9/1: The delegates met and voted. 61-39. Delegates representing parts or all of South Carolina, Arkansas, Alabama, Tennessee, Kentucky, Louisiana, Texas, Mississippi, and West Virginia walked out. Interestingly enough representatives from Florida, Virginia, North Carolina stayed.

Some thought places like Kansas, Nebraska, Arizona… might walk, but they stayed, too.

The Convention is deliberating regarding having new delegates elected to replace those who walked, but the general feeling is that most or all of them will be back.

Chairman Murtha tabled a motion to elect new delegates and announced that the Convention would continue its work.

9/2: 5 of the 17 delegates returned.

9/5: 3 more delegates return.

9/9: Everyone except a single delegate representing Kentucky is back. The Chair is urging her to resign.

9/18: We get a PF.

Las Vegas Winter Jam vs. FL ST. We beefed up the schedule a bit.

The Kentucky delegate still has not returned or resigned.

Deliberations are now related to everything except the “Bill of Rights” or perhaps the amendments. That’s being saved for last because the Chair knows it’s going to be long, complex, and contentious.

10/2: 1st day of practice. Still chasing that second recruit.

10/9: We got the 2nd recruit, another PF.

10/28: The Chair adjourns until 1/3/9. All business except for amendments to the constitution is concluded. The Chair feels an entire year will be needed for this.

11/6: 8 man rotation to start:

Frosh Dez Colt and Lan Shay start at guard with soph Joe Wye backing up.

Soph Ad Hess starts at SF with senior Nick Wrig backing up. Wrig has started almost exactly 50% of the games he has played in during his career here.

Senior Hek Leff and junior Mike Kal start inside, with frosh Rye Wood backing up.

We’re picked to win the conf. Let’s see what happens.

Everyone figures the biggest issue remaining will be guns, with abortion/birth control, and religion- separation of church and state, close behind. Other hot button issues are LGBTQ rights, immigration policies, limits on
corporate power, limits on union power, living wage, and a few others.

The Leader banned and confiscated all weapons, and reportedly 450 million handguns and rifles were turned in or confiscated. There are very, very few around. There have been a lot of calls for restitution of gun rights but Gen. Lynch and his people have said no. They said that would be determined by the Convention.

11/15: 82-55 over Bradley here. 16, 11, 3, 2, 2 for Leff at Center, 18 for Shay and 14 for Colt at guard, 8, 7, 3 for Hess at SF. 24, 15, 3 from the bench. +13 RBs, 10 TOs. Great start!

11/18: 55-56 at South Carolina Upstate. They were 16-25 from the line; we were 3-8. Awful disparity, but also, if we had hit our free throws we would have won. Both starting guards fought foul trouble throughout; #3 guard
Joe Wye had 20. Not a game we should have lost.

11/22: 77-66 over Washington ST here. 22, 10, 2, 5, 2 for Leff. 25, 6 for Kal, 13, 7, 3 for Shay. +10 TOs.

11/25: 64-62 at Harvard. 18 for Shay, 14, 2, 6 for Colt, 8, 13 for Leff, 9, 5 for Wrig. They took 11 more free throws.

11/29: 79-57 over Penn ST here. 19, 15 for Leff, 22 for Colt, 15, 4, 2 for Kal. +10 RBs, +10 TOs.

12/2: 69-65 over North Carolina ST here. 28 for Shay, 11, 8 for Kal, 6, 14, 3, 3, 2 for Leff, 9, 6 for Wrig. +10 RBs.

12/6: 84-80 at Drake. We led by as many as 19. The final score was as close as it got. 26, 3, 6 for Colt, 21, 1, 6, 3 for Shay, 16, 7 for Leff. -7 RBs, but +11 TOs.

12/9: 79-60 over Illinois here. 15, 11, 3 for Leff, 20, 4 for Shay, 13, 6 for Kal, who fouled out. +9 RBs. 51 fouls called- ridiculous.

Last home game before conf. play begins.

12/11: Ranked! #25.

12/13: 73-66 at Navy. 20, 7 for Colt, 16, 6 for Kal. Leff fouled out in 8 minutes and 50 fouls were called. +8 RBs.

12/16: 85-62 vs. Florida ST. in the 1st round of the Las Vegas Winter Jam. 25, 5 for Kal, 18, 13 for Leff, 15 for Colt. +8 RBs, +6 TOs.

#8 seed Georgia Southern, 5-4, upset #1 seed UNLV, so we play them in the semifinal round.

Foul stats: Average game: about 43 free throws taken: so 21.5 per team.

We take 23.4, give up 25.9, so 49.3. Hm…

12/17: 68-56. Balanced scoring, 7 players had between 11 and 7. Stats were close except that we shot 48.9%, they shot 39.1%.

#6 seed Texas Tech, 6-3, upset #2 Weber ST, so we play them for the title.

12/18: 72-64 and the title! 19, 7, 2 for Shay, 16, 2, 6, 2 for Colt. +7 TOs.

Wrig is starting at SF. Hess has not been getting it done. Wood is our first big guy off the bench.

12/20: 55-70 at Lipscomb. Ouch! We shot 33.3%, they shot 46%. We had 6 threes, they had 10. 23 for Colt, 11, 6, 5, 4 for Shay. Leff fouled out, as did Shay.

12/25: We end pre-conf. play at 11-2, #16, RPI #22. +9.5 PPG, +3.6 RBs, +4.4 TOs.

12/30: 63-65 at UNLV to open conf. play. They took 14 more free throws. Colt fouled out, 3 other starters had 4. 18, 9 for Kal, 16, 12 for Leff. We could have shot better, especially in the 1st half. Starting guards were 3-18.
Not the way we wanted to start conf. play.
1/3: 79-59 over Colorado ST here. 5 in double figures, another with 9. +7 RBs. Leff fouled out again.

The Convention resumed today with all 100 delegates present. It was agred to take up amendments XI-XVII first. Then new amendments will be introduced. Finally, the Bill of Rights, moving from X-III, then I, then II will be addressed.

1/5: Amendments XXIV and XXVII were approved as written.

Amendment XXIII deals with the electoral college. A motion was presented to eliminate the electoral college and to have the candidate receiving the greatest number of votes declared elected as President. A provision was presented to have the highest vote getter elected only if s/he received 50% +1 of the votes cast. A long debate ensued on the provision. On the first vote it passed, 51-49. Since 60 votes are needed there will be more ballots.

The provision fails with 49 votes, passes with 60. In case of a 50-50 tie, another ballot ensues. The Chair g3ts 1 vote, as does every other delegate, but he cannot break a tie.

1/6: 70-55 at Nevada. 4, 8, 3 for Leff. 10 points each for Kal, Shay, and Colt. We shot better, 45% to 35%.

Three more votes on XXIII. 51-49, 51-49, 50-50.

1/7: Three more votes; all 50-50.

1/8: On the third vote, one delegate changed her mind. 49-51, and the provision was defeated. The amendment now says that the candidate receiving the highest total number of votes is elected. It passed, 69-31, on the first ballot. The electoral college is no more.

It should be noted that during the reign of The Leader, many changes were made to the Constitution. All were voided when Gen. Lynch took over.

1/9: Amendment XXII limited the President to 2 full terms. A provision was made to enact term limits for all offices. It was rejected, 46-54. The amendment remains as written.

Amendments XIX-XXI were passed as written. XIX gave women the right to vote. XXI repealed Prohibition, and XX determined Presidential succession. This one was debated before being passed.

Amendment XVIII, Prohibition, was left in, with a note saying that it was voided by XXI. Seemed easier to keep the numbers the same- for now.

1/10: 76-58 over Boise ST here. 23, 3, 5, 3 for Colt, 16, 8 for Leff. +8 TOs but -6 RBs, but we shot better again, 50%-39%.

Interestingly enough, fouls in our games have dropped significantly since I started to track them. Who knows?

Amendment XVII dealt with election of Senators and Representatives. We already dealt with that, and our conclusions have been inserted her. The language about vacancies remains the same.

Amendment XVI- income tax, remained untouched after a brief, but fierce debate. The vote was 77-23.

1/11: Amendments XIII and XV were passed without discussion.

Amendment XIV was passed except for Section 2, which was dropped. It is covered in the revised XVII.

1/12: Amendment XII has to do with Presidential electors. The word “VOID” was written across it. Amendment XI was passed after some discussion. The Chair adjourned early. Deliberations on the Bill of Rights,

Amendments I-X will begin on Monday.

1/13: 64-84 at Fresno ST. 64 free throw attempts, 21 above the average. 38 were theirs. That’s not what beat us though, 23 TOs, and very poor D (We allowed 52+% shooting overall and on threes).

We need to play better on the road.

1/15: 14-4, 3-2, #18, RPI #34. 2 teams 1 game up on us. We’re tied with 4 other teams. It’s early.

1/16 Amendments IX and X passed without comment. VIII got some new, more specific language defining “excessive” and “cruel and unusual.”88-12.

VII passed without comment.

The tough ones lie ahead.

1/17: 75-57 over San Jose ST here. Never trailed against a good team. Balanced scoring- 6 had between 8 and 13. Wrig led us with 12 and 9. +6 RBs, +5 TOs.

Amendment VI took all day. Two major changes: 1. Jury of 12 is now jury of 8. 2. It is now MUCH harder for trial to be avoided via plea bargaining. #1 passed unanimously. #2 passed 63-37.

1/18: #V, self-incrimination… passed with some clarifying language added, but with no substantive changes.

1/19: #IV: Unreasonable search and seizure. Some language bringing this back to the original intent was added, making it clear that any evidence collected through a violation is inadmissible. This really got heated. It passed 60-40, but again, took the entire day.

1/20: 86-68 at San Diego ST. 26, 10, 2, 3 for Kal, 12, 7 for Wrig, 11, 5, 5 for Colt. +17 RBs.

Amendment III: Passed unanimously. We’re down to the first two. The Chair declared a recess. The Convention will reconvene, in Boston, on 2/13. The First Amendment will be taken up before the 2nd.

1/22: 16-4, 5-2, #18, RPI #33. 2 way tie for 2nd, 1 back of 1st, 1 up on 4 teams. 9 to play.

1/24: 62-74 at New Mexico. 71 free throw attempts; they had 40. That’s 28 more than the average. Very frustrating.

We’re still 1 back of 1st, but now in a 5 way tie, with 2 teams 1 back.

1/27: 86-69 over Weber ST here. 25, 11 for Leff, 14, 3 for Shay, 13 for Hess. +14 RBs.

65 free throws taken, 22 above the average. Most were by us, for once.

1/29: 17-5, 6-3, #18, RPI #32. 4 way tie for 1st. +8.9 PPG, +4.8 RBs, +2.8 TOs.

Hek Leff is #10 on the Norton list.

1/31: 74-45 in a blowout against Wyoming here. 23, 10 for Kal, 15, 4, 2 for Leff. +10 in both RBs and TOs. A laugher!

2/3: 73-71 at Utah ST, the worst team in the conf. They were up 12 with 14:22 to play. I used my next to last time out, and finally got my guys to play, but it was a near thing. We ended the game with a 9-2 run. 14, 3, 3 for Laws, 13 for Colt. +7 RBs.

But the real issue, again was fouls. They took 52 free throws, which is ridiculous. Leff, Kal, Wood, and Hess all fouled out, and Wrig and Laws had 4 each. All of these guys are inside players. They had 39 made free throws; we had 17. Outrageous. I couldn’t afford a T, but it was all that I could do NOT to go to the refs dressing room after the game. I knew that would get me suspended but it was still all I could do. I really went on a rant in the postgame press conference.

Alone in 1st! 5 teams are 1 back. 5 to play.

Reg Laws hurt his wrist. Day to day.

2/7: 91-63 over UNLV here. 28, 9, 2, 1, 4 for Leff, 17, 6, 4, 2 for Wrig. +8 RBs. We shot 58%, they shot 38%.

65 free throws taken, 22 above the average.

Evidently there is a huge amount of lobbying going on regarding several issues related to the First, and even more regarding the Second Amendment.

2/10: 74-77 at Colorado ST. It wasn’t fouls this time, except that they made their free throws and we didn’t. Leff fouled out, but then he usually does. He’s a senior that plays with all the discipline of a frosh. He had 23 and 6, but missed the last 2 ½ minutes. Our 3 guards combined for 31. +9 TOs, -6 RBs.

2/12: 3 way tie for 1st, 3 teams 1 back, with 3 to play. Wild and wooly finish coming up!

Leff remains #10 on the Norton list.

2/13: Five issues for the First Amendment: Speech, Press, Religion, Peaceable Assembly, Petition for redress of grievances. The convention, by an 86-14 vote, decided to take them up one at a time. Petition of grievances was passed after some very minor language additions (89-11).

Peaceable assembly: Lots of discussion regarding needing permits, limits…We’re nowhere near resolution on this one.

2/14: 61-46 with Nevada here. Terrific D! +15 TOs! Balanced scoring.

Still a 3 way tie with 2 to play.

Full day of proposed provisions, all but one of which were defeated. The only provision still alive is requiring a written permit in advance. But we hear there’s one coming regarding spontaneous demonstrations.

2/15: The permit provision has 54 in favor. That stayed the same on all three votes. Remember, a major issue passes with 60, loses with 49, and is re-voted with 50-59.

2/16: Three more votes and lots of debate in between. No change, 54-46.

2/17: 63-79 at Boise ST. They took 33 we took 11. -8 RBs. We needed this one.

New Mexico is alone in 1st. We’re in a 3 way tie for 2nd.

No movement on peaceable assembly.

2/21: 64-55 Fresno ST here. 18, 14 for Wrig, 16, 6 for Leff, but D won this one. +9 RBs.

We end up in a 2 way tie for 1st with New Mexico. They get the #1 seed.

The log jam broke but not completely. 58-42 for having a permit before holding a public assembly.

2/24: A provision to make an exception for spontaneous demonstrations, and peaceable assembly passes, 64-36. Next up: freedom of the press.

2/26: At the end of the regular season: 22-7, 11-5, #20, RPI #34. Tied for 1st. +8.9 PPG, +4.1 RBs, +3.5 TOs.

2/27: Discussion on freedom of the press is all over the place. Some want no restrictions, no ability to sue for libel, others want all sorts of restrictions. The “Congress shall make no law” part seems doomed. The Chair has said he is willing to have debate go on all week, with provisions only allowed next week, if it takes that long.

3/6: The Chair asked that all provisions be made today. If seconded, they would be brought forward, one at a time, for discussion and vote. 11 made the cut.

#10 seed Nevada, 8-20, 6-10, beat #7, so we play them first.

3/7: 80-61. 20 for Shay, 18 for Kal. We won easily but fouls were an issue again. They took 40 from the line we took 17. Wrig and Leff both fouled out.

#3 seed UNLV, 14-14, 10-6, in the semis. We lost by 2 there, won by 28 here.

3/8: 73-67. We were down 16 early. Got it to 6 at the half, then chipped away, took the lead very late. The final margin was our biggest lead. 13, 9, 3, 3 for Wrig, 14, 4, 4, 4, 3 for Leff. +8 RBs.

#5 seed Fresno ST, 18-12, 10-6, shocked #1 New Mexico, winning by 10. Tough match up. They won by 20 there, then we won by 9 here.

No movement on freedom of the press. Still on the 1st of 10 provisions. Vote comes tomorrow.

3/9: 53-72. We shot 28.3%. That is all.

3/11: 7 provisions acted upon. 1 passed, 6 failed.

3/12: 24-8, 11-5, #20, RPI #31. 7 seed? 8?

6 East. Delighted! We play #11 Marquette, 21-9. Not an easy match up but we’ll take it.

3/14: 1 provision to go on freedom of the press.

3/16: 74-70. We led almost all the way. They tied it with 38 seconds left. We came down and scored, using 28 seconds. They came down and missed, we got the RB, they fouled. We hit both. 17, 11, 6 blocks for Leff.
85 free throws taken.

#14 seed Fresno ST, 20-12, upset #3 LSU, so we play them for the 4th time. They crushed us by 19 in the mountain West final, beat us 2 out of 3 so far.

3/17: We have freedom of the press settled and it’s exactly as it was originally.

Freedom of speech is next.

3/18: 77-74 and back to the Sweet Sixteen for the 2nd year in a row. We came from behind late, outscored them 11-4 at the end. 16, 6 for Leff, 13, 4, 3, 2 for Colt, 12 for Laws from the bench.

#2 seed, #4 ranked Kansas, 27-5 next. Yikes!

Again, the Chair is setting aside a week for debate.

3/23: 79-86. We played well against a good team. 72 free throws again, 29 over the average. Leff fouled out in his last college game, and Colt also fouled out. 20 TOs hurt. 19, 7 for Shay, 16 for Colt.

3/27: Among the provisions proposed: 1 The usual one about not yelling fire in a crowded theater. 2 No criticism of the POTUS. 3 No criticism of religion 4 No hate speech. There were several others. The minor ones, all 12, will come first, and the 4 listed above next.

3/29: 9 of the 12 have been shot down.

4/3: #1 Arizona won it all.

The other minor provisions all lost. Not yelling fire won, 77-23.

4/4: Awards: Hek Leff was conf. POY and 1st team. Nick Wrig was Def. POY. Lan Shay and Mike Kal made 2nd team. I got COY.

Would I take a job elsewhere? If given the right opportunity I definitely would. Not sure I can go much further here.

4/7: Lots of debate on “No criticism.” The Chair decided to allow debate on all 3 related provisions.

4/9: Ohio ST wants me. The program is in terrible shape, but a power conf., a much bigger budget, lots of potential. Tough decision… I ask for 48 hours to think it over.

4/10: Auburn wants us. They’re a much better program in much better shape, but I have no interest in living in the deep south. Still pondering Ohio ST.

4/11: Going to Ohio ST. It’s a rebuilding job, but in the long term this could be a very good situation. And I can take the occasional transfer and Juco again.

No progress on the three provisions regarding free speech.

4/16: I am very disappointed with the quality of staff I was able to attract.

4/22: Still no progress with the 3 provisions. The vote on all 3 is 43 in favor, 57 opposed, but no one is moving.

4/23: We ask for a budget increase. No.

26-9, Sweet Sixteen. Another good season. Overall I’m 182-78, .700 through 8 seasons. Heading for a new school which could be my final stop. At most one more move.

Mixed feelings about leaving the Academy. I was there during a terrible time, and I lost the woman I loved- love. I exposed myself to life threatening dangers.

The Chair calls a recess until 6/1. Speech, religion, and then the Second Amendment. Not sure the Convention will finish by their target date.

5/1: National gold, international basic.

6/1: Convention is back in session. All three provisions are now at 41 against 59 for.

6/5: Looking at transfers.

6/8: Finally, the 3 provisions are defeated, 40-60.

On to the last part of the 1st Amendment, freedom of religion. The Chair again gives a week for discussion. Everyone knows this one will be difficult. Under the Leader, particularly after the original Leader was assassinated, our country became a theocracy. Religion has taken a big hit because of that, but a large minority remain either deeply religious, or somewhat religious, particularly in the south and the Midwest. Reached 60 votes for or against on anything in this area will not be easy.

6/12: We get a PF, Mel Dell, a junior from Houston.

6/16: Only 4 provisions are presented and seconded. (1) Christianity is the official religion of the U. S. (2) Complete separation of church and state with absolutely no state sponsorship or spending for any religion or religious activity in any form (3) Proof of political activity by a church or religious group of any kind- local, regional, or national, loses all tax exemptions for that church. The group may reapply after two years. (4) Religious groups involved in any interaction with those not within their religion are required to follow all laws. No exemption is given due to religious belief.

No one thinks any of this will be easy.

6/26: 5 scholarships. Looking at 24.

10 days of discussion on #1, official religion. 59 say no, and have on every vote so far.

7/31: After weeks and weeks of no movement on the 1st Amendment the Chair adjourned until 9/1.

8/21: We offer to 2 PFs, 3 PGs.

9/1: The Convention is back in session. It’s hard to see a way out of this stalemate.

9/15: Nothing has changed at the Convention.

9/18: We get a PG.

We’re in the Hawaiian Shootout vs. Western KY. Looking for wins so an easy pre-conf. schedule. But only 2 at home, which is not good.

9/25: Added another PG and a PF. 2 to go.

10/2: Got the 3rd PG. One big guy left to get.

Still no movement at the Convention.

10/9: We got the PF so now we have all 5 recruits. Current rankings are 141, 166, 179, 219, 512, so no world beaters.

11/1: The stalemate persists at the Convention.

11/6: Here’s the lineup, a 7 man rotation for now.:

Soph Sam Wall will play mostly PG, some SG. Senior Rob Digs will start at SG, play some PF- I know, unusual. Senior Jon Wats will sub at both guard spots.

Senior Bin Bay starts at SF with soph Jam Stew behind him.

Frosh Ben Cam starts at PF, plays some C. Soph Al Bow starts at C.

11/7: One vote changed on all 4 provisions: #1 Christianity is the official religion: 40-60. #2, #3, #4 all restrict the right of religion to use tax money, engage in politics, discriminate for religious reasons. All are adopted 60-40.

37 delegates walk out, saying the people they represent cannot be part of a union with these laws.

The Chair adjourns until further notice.

Only the 2nd Amendment remains to be discussed. The thinking is that the Chair wants time for the districts where delegates walked to decide what to do about it- pressure the delegates to return, elect new delegates, or support the walkout.

Re: Tomorrow?

Postby Wayne23 » Wed Dec 21, 2016 1:21 pm

11/15: 76-47 over Harvard here. Great start! 22, 6 for SF Bin Bay, 15, 8, 5, 3 for guard/forward Rob Digs, 13, 4, 3, 4 for PF Ben Cam, 12, 5 for C Al Bow. 9 TOs to 21 for them.

Off to the Hawaiian Shootout.

11/18: 64-55 at Western Kentucky. 23, 3 for Digs, 14, 12 for Bay, 8, 5, 7 for PG Sam Wall. +11 RBs.

#1 seed, #7 ranked North Carolina in the semifinal round. Yikes!

11/19: 71-80. We led at the half but they were big, quick, and deep. 29, 4, 3 for Digs, 16, 6 for Cam.

11/20: One of my Juco recruits didn’t sign. Not sure what that means.

11/22: 59-56 at Kona. D won this one. 20, 5, 3, 5 for Bay, 16, 9 for Digs, 14 for Wats from the bench.

11/25: 65-58 at Manhattan. 19, 7 for Digs, 10, 8 for Cam, 13, 3 for Bow, 10 RBs for Bay. +13 RBs. Good D, rebounding and ball handling, plus not fouling much are combining to get us off to a good start.

There is turmoil in the states where the 37 delegates left the Convention. Several states seem to be moving toward leaving the union, but there are many in those states who do not want to leave. This group represents about
1/3 of the union. We’ll see how that plays out.

11/27: 4-1. RPI doesn’t mean anything this early in the season. 5 more to play before the conf. begins.

11/29: 77-65 at Cornell. 43-19 at the half. 21, 2, 5 for Digs, 11, 10 for Cam10, 9, 3 for Wats, who needs more time. +10 RBs, 11 TOs, -6 fouls.

12/2: 72-55 over Towson here. 22, 6, 2, 2 for Digs, 12, 9, 3, 2 for Cam, 12, 6 for Bay, 11, 7 for Bow. +8 RBs. Unlike my Academy team these guys rarely get into foul trouble, and yet we’re holding our opponents under 60 points per game.

South Carolina, Kentucky, West Virginia, Tennessee, Alabama, Mississippi, Arkansas, Louisiana, and Oklahoma have all declared their intention to meet in their individual states to discuss secession, and the formation of their own separate country. Texas has announced that it will meet to explore the possibility of becoming a sovereign nation.

Interestingly, Virginia, North Carolina, Florida, and Georgia have announced that they plan to stay in the union. This bring sup several issues, including the fact that South Carolina and Tennessee would block access to Georgia and Florida, if they do secede.

Conservative states like Utah, Arizona, Kansas, Nebraska, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, and North Dakota have said nothing.

The Chair issued a plea to all states to return to deliberations until the business of the Convention is concluded so that they have a voice. The states involved represent 9 delegates. They can then make a decision when the entire Constitution has been written. Oh, at that time it will go to the people for a vote. 55% is required for approval.

Gen. Lynch has said nothing regarding possible secession.

12/6: 75-54 at Drake. 32, 2, 3, 3 for Digs, 18, 7 for Bay. +8 RBs, 9 TOs.

Our two best players, Dig and Bay are seniors, as is Wats, our 6th man, but we hope to be better next year, so that may work out.

12/13: 60-49 South Florida here. Great D! 19, 8 for Digs, 17, 4 for Bay. We held them to 34%, 25% on threes.

12/16: Today South Carolina, Kentucky, West Virginia, Tennessee, Alabama, Mississippi, Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, and Texas are all meeting independently to decide whether to send delegates back to the Constitutional Convention, and whether or not to secede.

12/19: The states all seem to be headed toward secession.

12/20: 79-69 at Morehead ST in our last pre-conf. game. 31, 5 for Bay, 17, 5, 3 for Digs, 13, 9 for Cam, 10, 7, 3 for Bow, 6, 7, 4 for Wats.

12/25: We end pre-conf. play at 9-1, RPI #24 (which is WAY too high, given the quality of the opposition). +11.0 PPG, +5.6 RBs, +2.8 TOs. 2nd fewest fouls per game by both teams in the Big 10, Frankly, I’m amazed. Yes, the schedule was very weak, but 5-0 away, and 2-1 on a neutral court? Wow!

I will be happy with a .500 record and a 7th place finish in the Big 10, but I now think both are possible.
