April 12, 2017

Stetson University has announced that Matt Grahoben will become the school's next men's basketball coach. The 31-year old spent the past two seasons as an assistant at Dayton, helping the Flyers to a trip to the second round of the NCAA Tournament last year. Grahoben takes over a Stetson team that finished just 9-19 last year, winning just 4 conference games in the Atlantic Sun.

Furman (1-1) 66
Stetson (1-0) 71

Matt Grahoben began his head coaching career with a win, as his Stetson Hatters defeated the Furman Paladins 71-66. After a close first half, Stetson went on a huge run early in the second frame to take a 47-29 lead at one point. Furman chipped away at the lead throughout the second half, but could never make the score closer than a two possession game. Stetson center Shawn Bradford led the Hatters with 24 points, as he dominated the paint despite sitting much of the first half with two fouls.

Notable Performances:
Shawn Bradford 10-17 FG, 24 Points, 7 Rebounds

Delaware State (0-2) 61
Stetson (2-0) 70

For the second consecutive game, Shawn Bradford led all in scoring, this time contributing 23 to Stetson's total of 70. The Hatters spent most of the second half trailing, as Delaware State consistently scored, not allowing the opposition to go on any long runs. Stetson finally broke through late in the second half after forcing consecutive turnovers, leading to easy fast break points which gave them a lead which they would hold. Overall the Hatters had great ball movement throughout the game, assisting on 19 of the team's 24 field goals.

Notable Performances:
Shawn Bradford 7-9 FG, 23 Points, 6 Rebounds, 1 Assist
Jason Willis 4-12 FG, 12 Points, 1 Rebound, 5 Assists
John Grays 3-4 FG, 7 Points, 2 Rebounds
