Restarting in 1999-2000, a fictional historical play

Ok, maybe I jumped into the Prior Dynasty without really knowing the game works. Can you blame me? I was excited to have the full game after trying the demo. So, that means dialing back and just coaching, not trying to GM and coach. I also move up in history to a time when I'm much more familiar with the players. The 70s were a fun time, but I don't remember how anyone played. Starting with 1999-2000, I think I might have a better idea on how to use players.

I will be head coach of the Projected Pacific Division Champion Portland Pilots.

Portland Pilots: an Overview

Postby WendellLadner » Mon Jul 17, 2017 10:45 pm

Rose Garden, 19,980
Owner: DeMarcus LaRue
GM: Coray Garrett
HC: Wendell Ladner

Player Salary: $48,689,888
Cap Space: -$1,619,888

PG Mark Jackson, 6-1, 34, $3,984,933
PG Terry Porter, 6-3, 36, $2,444,867
SG Ron Mercer, 6-7, 23, $4,423,226
SG Hubert Davis, 6-5, 29, $1,551,505
SF Tyrone Nesby, 6-6, 23, $3,152,920
SF Malik Sealy, 6-8, 29, $3,084,032
PF Tim Duncan, 6-11, 23, $15,622,550
PF Dennis Rodman,. 6-7, 38, $4,201,904
PF A. C. Green, 6-9, 36, $1,976,892
PF Matt Bullard. 6-10, 32, $1,561,999
C Vlade Divac, 7-1, 31, $4,533,741
C Olden Polynice, 6-11, 35, $2,151,319

Overall I like my club. I don't really know what everyone else has at this moment, but I think the playoffs-maybe a Top 4 seed-isn't out of the question.

Point Guard
Jackson will start, aiming for 36-40 minutes a game
Porter will get some PG time, but he'll also get some 'last shot' time.

Shooting Guard
Mercer will start, aiming for 36-40 minutes a game.
Davis will get the remainder, with a few late game situational appearances.

Small Forward
Rodman will start, aiming for 32-36 minutes a game.
Nesby, Sealy, and Green will provide a rotation behind Rodman.

Power Forward
Duncan will start, aiming for 40-44 minutes a game.
The same group at SF will provide Tim a few minutes rest a game.
If Bullard is playing more than tolken minutes, I think were in trouble.

Center
Divac will start, aiming for 32-36 minutes a game.
Polynice is the main back up, but I'm not too sold on his ability to cover effectively at 35.
Duncan might steal a minute or two depending on foe or flow of game, but I don't want him to spend too many minutes there.

No game for Portland.

Hubert Davis is having issues with back spasms. We have 6 games in the next 10 days, including 2 back-to-backs, so this could pose a problem. Tyrone Nesby will see more minutes in the SG slot than I'd really like. I'm hoping Malik Sealy will play well enough I don't have to dip into the A. C. Green/Matt Bullard bag,

What really worrys me about Davis being down is our guards were really fouly in the first game. Davis 5, Mercer 4, Porter 3, Jackson 2. If Mercer gets into trouble, and Nesby is forced into 20+ minutes at SG, it could be an ugly scene.

No Game for Portland

Malik Sealy is bothered with a sore foot after his productive 24 minutes (8 PTS, 4 REB, 2 AST) against the Dons. I was expecting to get about that many minutes per game from him over the next week, but now I'm teetering close to heavy time for Green and Bullard.
