11/13: We start the season at the Coaches Classic vs. Georgia. We’re the #7 seed, they’re #10.

77-62. 22, 8 for Arch, 22, 6 for Hess, 10, 13 for Center Jon Mull.

#2 seed, #19 ranked Oklahoma in the quarter finals.

11/15: 77-58. 21, 11 for Hess, 20, 6 for Arch. +13 RBs.

#3 seed, #8 ranked Maryland in the semifinals. Tough team.

11/17: 90-89. We almost blew a 19 point lead. They had the ball last and missed a 15 footer. 26, 11 for Hess, 21, 7 for Arch, 10, 10 for sub forward Mo Nica, 15 for sub guard Jake Whay.

#1 seed, #4 ranked Florida for the title.

11/19: 81-56. 20, 12 for Hess, 14, 11 for PF Chad Colt, 16 for Arch, 10, 11 for Nica, 7, 11 for Mull, 12 for Whay. +12 RBs, 10 TOs.

11/20: #4 in the polls.

All 3 recruits sign. We4’re still looking to sign one more.

12/4: 8-0. #3, RPI #2. Hess is averaging 21.0, 10.4. Arch is getting 18.0.

12/6: The Nazi attack on Leningrad is held at bay but the Nazis are attempting to starve the city.

12/7: The Japanese bomb Pearl Harbor in Hawaii, destroying much of the U. S. Pacific fleet and aircraft.

The U. S. declares war on Japan and Germany.

12/25: 12-0. #6, RPI #2. +19.2 PPG, +14.3 RBs, +3.4 TOs. 20.3, 11.3 for Hess.

1/1/1942: 14-0, 2-0, #6, RPI #2. 2 SEC teams are ahead of us in the polls, #1 Kentucky, and #4 Florida.

1/15: 18-0, 6-0, #4, RPI #2. Tied for 1st with #1 Kentucky, 2 up on 3rd. 19.2, 11.1 for Hess. 17.2 for Arch, 11.3, 9.6 for Mull.

1/23: Japanese-Americans, born in the U.S., are segregated out5 of the Army and the National Guard.

1/29: 20-2, 8-2, #8, RPI #3. Alone in 2nd in the SEC. +15.8 PPG, +15.6 RBs, +2.0 TOs, +2.9 assists. We play #1 Kentucky there but if we play well that should be the only game we lose.

Tim Hess is #11, Tre Arch #25 on the Norton list.

2/12: 23-3, 11-3, #8, RPI #3. Tied for 2nd in the SEC. Hess is #11 on the Norton list.

2/19: 110,000 Japanese Americans are relocated to detention camps. 75,000 of them are U. S. citizens.

2/26: We end the regular season at 27-3, 15-3, tied for 2nd, #3 seed. +14.7 PPG, +13.8 RBs, +2.0 TOs.

3/7: We play #6 seed Auburn, 14-14, 8-10, in the quarter finals. We split in the regular season.

3/8: 75-54. Hess was unstoppable, 35 and 16. +21 RBs, 9 TOs.

#2 seed, #5 ranked Florida, 27-4, 15-3, in the semifinals. They won by 20 at their place. Their SG and SF score a LOT of points.

3/9: 77-80. Their SG had 32, including the winner, from 27 feet, at the buzzer. 21, 15 for Hess, 18, 5, 5 for Arch, 12, 14, 6 for Mull. +15 RBs. They hit 17 threes.

28-4, 15-3, #9, RPI #4. Hoping for a #1, expecting a #2 seed.

3/12: #2 Midwest. We’ll play McNeese ST, 19-11.

3/16: 80-45. 21, 9 for Hess, 15, 8 for Whay, 13, 6, 3 for Roga. +21 RBs, 11 TOs.

#10 seed Pepperdine, 23-9, in the 2nd round.

3/18: 86-70. It wasn’t that close. 34, 9, 3 for Arch, 19, 10 for Hess. +14 RBs, 10 TOs.

#3 seed, #11 ranked Ohio ST, 27-7, in the Sweet Sixteen. We’ve never made it past this round. We think we have a great chance to do so this year.

3/23: 91-77. 29, 13 for Hess, 16, 8 for Arch, 17, 4 for Roga. +15 RBs.

And we’re in the Elite Eight! We play #1 seed, #2 ranked Syracuse, 35-1. They lost their #1 scorer/rebounder to grades in December, but they haven’t lost since then.
This is a tough, tough team.

3/25: 70-73. We played really well. 19, 8 for Hess, 17 for Arch, 8, 12 for Nica, 6, 11 for Mull. 49 RBs, 8 TOs. They had the ball last, got their SG open for a 20 foot three, and he hit it.

4/3: #1 Kentucky wins it all.

4/4: Awards: Soph Tim Hess and junior Jon Mull made SEC 1st team. I am SEC COY.

4/9: I’m going to Michigan. It’s a rebuilding job but the potential is fantastic, and I’m completely fed up with the oppressive heat and humidity down here.

4/16: I love our #1 and #2 assistants. I need to hire a #3.

Got a good one!

4/23: I ask for a facilities upgrade. No.

31-5, 15-3, Elite Eight. Overall, I’m 296-126, .701.

The Japanese are advancing in the war in the Pacific.

Jews are disappearing all over Europe.

6/5: Looking at transfers. We offer to a C and a PG.

6/12: We get the PG, Jake Whay, from my old school, LSU.

The battle of Midway marks the first defeat for the Japanese in the Pacific.

6/22: Rommel is victorious in several battles in Africa.

Germans begin “resettling” Jews.

6/26: 5 scholarships. We need either 1 or 2 guards.

7/27: The British stop Rommel’s advance toward the Suez Canal.

8/7: PF Sean Bank is #31, and PF Kyle Toms #39 on the Norton list.

8/21: We offer to a PG, an SG, and 3 PFs.

8/23: The Nazis advance on Stalingrad.

8/26: Thousands of Jews are rounded up in Vichy, France.

9/18: We got 2, lost 2. We got a PF, #5, our #1, and an SG, #23.

No in season tournament but a challenging schedule.

9/25: We get 2, lose 1. We get a PF, #16, and a PG, #28. We need a big guy.

10/2: We lose another recruit.

1st day of practice.

We’re picked to finish 6th in the Big 10.

10/30: We lose another recruit.

11/6: 10 man rotation for now:

We are not at all set at the Point. Frosh Will Geer starts, but 3 others, frosh Hank Hume, senior San Sars, and senior Mal Gray also get minutes at PG. Gray subs at SG as well.

Soph Tom Roge is solid at SG.

Soph Kyle Toms starts at SF, backed by frosh Vega Alli, who also subs at PF.

Our best player, junior Sean Bank, starts at PF, subs at C. Frosh Curt Olan subs at PF.

Senior Jeb Mose starts at C.

Let’s see what happens!

11/20: 2-0 start. Sf Kyle Toms, PF Sean Bank, and SG Tom Roge are leading the way. The D was excellent in both games.

We’re ranked! #15.

All 4 recruits sign. We’re still hoping to land a big man.

12/4: 5-1, #18, RPI #5. Bank leads us in scoring and in RBs. We don’t score a lot of points but we’re #20 in PPG allowed. Ball handling is an issue.

12/17: British Foreign Secretary Anthony Eden tells the House of Commons that the Nazis are exterminating Jews.

12/25: 8-1 to end pre-conf. play. #19, RPI #6. +10.0 PPG, +11.7 RBs, +0.4 TOs. Bank still leads us with 16.2, 11.0.

Pius XII issues a weak statement of neutrality, failing to mention the extermination of the Jews.

12/30: In New York 5000 “bobby soxers” scream, “Frankie, Frankie,” for young sensation Frank Sinatra.

Thousands of German troops are trapped without supplies near Stalingrad.

1/29: 14-5, 6-4, tied for 5th. #21, RPI #20. Bank still leads us with 16.2, 11.9; he’s #27 on the Norton list. +4.9 PPG, +9.6 RBs, -1.4 TOs. One of our goals is to finish in
the top ½ of the conf. It’s going to be difficult. Tough schedule ahead.

The Russians are driving the German troops back near Stalingrad.

The Jews rise up in the Warsaw ghetto.

The allies appear to be turning the tide in their favor.

2/3: The Germans surrender at Stalingrad.

2/8: The Japanese evacuate Guadalcanal.

2/12: 16-7, 8-6. #25, RPI #21. Alone in 6th in the 14 team Big 10. Bank is #19 on the Norton list.

3/6: We play last place Nebraska, 11-17, 3-15, in the quarter finals. They won their play in game.
3/7: 72-59. 18, 11 for PF Sean Bank. 17, 5 for PG San Sars. 15, 7 for Center Jeb Mose. +15 RBs, 11 TOs.

#3 seed, #5 ranked Michigan ST, 25-4, 14-4, in the semifinals. They won by 18 there. Tough team.

3/8: 66-76. They jumped out to a 21 point lead. The closed we came in the 2nd half was 5, twice. 14, 10 for Bank, 12, 12 for Mose, 12, 9 for sub PF Kyle Toms. +16
RBs, but 1-10 on threes, and we gave up 16 of them.

19-10, 10-8, RPI #25. Hoping for a #6 seed.

3/12: #7 West. We face #10 College of Charleston, 24-6.

3/17: 72-63. 18, 5 for Bank, 10, 10 for Mose, 15, 6, 3 for Sars, 14, 5, 4 for SG Tom Roge. +10 RBs, but 17 TOs.

#2 seed, #6 ranked UConn, 28-3, in the 2nd round.

3/19: 70-98. We couldn’t stop them, especially their SG, who had 48. 18, 19 for Bank, 9, 12 for Mose.

4/3: #2 Florida won the title. My LSU team made the Final Four.

4/4: Awards: Junior PF Sean Bank makes Big 10 first team. That’s it.

4/23: I ask for a facilities upgrade. Got it! B- to B+.

20-11, 10-8. Not a bad first season. Overall, I’m 316-137, .698.

The Jefferson Memorial is dedicated.

7/15: The allies conquer Sicily.

7/26: Mussolini is arrested.

8/7: Sean Banks is #21 and Kyle Toms #33 on the Norton list.

8/21: We offer to an SF, a PF, and a C.

9/18: We got all 3 recruits, an SF, #1, a PF, #24, and a C, #29.

We’re going to the NIT vs. Memphis. Challenging schedule.

10/2: 1st day of practice. We could be deeper but we have talent.

10/13: Italy switches sides and declares war on Germany.

We play #1 seed, #11 ranked UCLA in the quarter final round.

11/16: 77-81. It was close all the way. 20, 12 for Center Kyle Toms, 16 for Herr, 14 each for Bank and Whay.

11/20: All 3 recruits signed.

12/4: 4-2, #18, RPI #33. 1 point loss at Brigham Young.

12/25: 8-2, #14, RPI #5. +12.3 PPG, +13.0 RBs, +3.7 TOs. Center Kyle Toms averages 20.2, 10.4, Sean Bank gets 17.7, 13.4. 14.2 for SG Reg Herr, and 12.7 for Jake Whay.

The tide of the war seems to be turning toward the allies.
