DDSCB 2017 Tournament Maker Results

Postby PointGuard » Sat Mar 11, 2017 8:23 pm

This is NOT a dynasty but seems like a good place to keep results from Tournament Maker efforts.

While I'm starting this thread and will contribute, I encourage others to add their results here as well (in any format and in as much or as little detail as you wish). I think it would be fun to see what different people do with this new tool in our DDSCB arsenal.

C Bobby Morris put up a tough shot from near the free throw line that came hard off the rim right back to him. He put it right back up to make it 77-76 in favor of the Huskies with 1:20 to go. The Huskies then applied a rock solid defense to force a clock violation against the Jayhawks but they couldn’t score on their possession. Kansas’ PF James Radford was fouled shooting and swished both free throws through the net making it 78-77 Kansas with 36 seconds to play. Following a time out, Morris was fouled inside but could only make one of two foul shots and the game was tied at 78-78. Kansas took a time out and brought the ball up court with 22 seconds to go. With 3:22 remaining, Derrick Prewitt took his man to the basket, but pulled up to sink an 8 footer and Arizona recaptured the lead at 65-64. Gonzaga’s PG Victor Henderson was fouled on a drive on the next possession and canned both shots to put the Zags back on top by a point with 3:12 remaining. The Wildcats couldn’t convert on their next possession and Henderson made them pay by hitting a long 3 to make it 69-65 in favor of Gonzaga with 2:45 on the clock. So how do you make an 8 team tourney work? Do you need to fill in all 64, then just play the games you want to play?

Pretty easy...Fill in the portion of the bracket(s) for the size tournament you want (4 team, 8 team, 16 team, etc) and then fill in the other portions with anyone...just quickly inserting teams (yeah, you do have to fill in all 64 places, but that can be done quickly). Then play the games you are interested in in 2D so you can see what is going on and look over the box score (or sim then if you only are interested in the final score and the winners of the games and the tournment)...and click sim for the other games that aren't part of your tournament (and ignore those results). Once you've finished playing the games that affect your size tournament, you can quit running Tournament Maker. As you may recall, I lobbied for various size tournaments within Tournament Maker, but Gary said he wanted to find out what people thought about this tool about refining it further.

One nice thing about Tournament Maker is that after you've run a game (or a number of games), you can close Tournament Maker and it automatically saves the tournament and you can re-open it later to finish more of your tournament.

Hahahahahahaha!

I hope Gary goes with the option of different size tournaments for DDS:CB 2018. I'd be much more likely to use it then.

While I concur, it really is easy to create and run a different size tournament.
