The Portland Pilots have made a coaching change, as they have selected 32 year-old Michael Elliott to be the next coach of the university's men's basketball team. The young coach has spent the last four years on the coaching staffs of East Carolina, Louisiana Tech, and Clemson, and is now becoming a head coach at the college level for the first time. Portland is coming off a 19-13 season which included a CIT appearance, the school's first trip to the postseason in 5 years. With strong programs such as Gonzaga, BYU, and St. Mary's in the West Coast Conference, Portland has never been a contender for a league championship, but perhaps that will change under Elliott.
