5/1: National gold, international basic.

Preseason #5.

6/5: Two guys transfer, both bigs. Neither figured prominently in our plans.

Lookin’ at transfers. We offer ta a great PG from Florida.

6/12: We don’t get him.

6/22: Bonnie May has arrived. She looks great, like one a the boys when they were born. Fingers crossed that this is the little girl we keep.

6/26: 5 scholarships. We need 4 bigs. Lookin’ at 16 guys, mostly bigs.

Rick Menz goes #20 in the draft, which is almost an insult. Way too low.

This great big statue comes ta New York from France. It’s so big it sticks up several hundred feet in the harbor. Called the Statue a Liberty. Sounds like somethin’ worth seein’!

7/25: General U. S. Grant has died. Some call him the greatest man since Washington, some call him an old drunk. Well, yes, he drank, but he also saved the Union. I honor his memory.

8/7: Norton list: PF Kal Robb #7, C Ab Chin #17, which is an insult, PG Josh Brum #24, PG Kean Ferg #25, C/PF Ry Sart #32, PF Will Shem #36, C/PF Ram Ward #42.

8/21: We offer ta a PG, 3 PFs, a C.

9/18: Got 3, lost one. Got A PF, #8, a PG, #13, A C, #14.

Caribbean Challenge vs. George Washington. Sched. Is loaded with ranked teams.

9/25: Get one, lose one. We get a PF, #22.

10/2: Got the last one, a PF, #24. If they all hit the SAT score we’re finished.

1st day a practice. We have 111 guys on scholarship. I would not hesitate to play any of them in any situation.

11/6: This is a terrific lineup:

Frosh Brik Sims at PG. Junior Kean Ferg at SG. Junior Josh Brum backing up at both with 2 very good guards hoping to get a chance.

Junior Ry Sart is at SF, backing up at PF.

Soph Kal Robb is at PF, backing up at C.

Our superstar, senior Ab Chin, is at C.

Senior Ram Ward an’ junior Will Shem back up at SF.

Is this our year?

11/20: 2-0 start. Beat #15 by 17 there! Brik Sims had 27, 5, 10 in that game. Not bad for a rookie in his 2nd game!

All 5 recruits sign. We were concerned about one but he studied like mad!

12/4: 5-0, #5, RPI #2. No lineup tweaks at all. We’re playing excellent basketball. Closest win was 15, and these are all ranked or near ranked teams. As expected Chin an’ Ferg lead the way, but Robb averages a douyble double, Sart is doing it all, an’ Brik Sims gets 13.6, an’ 6.2 assists. The bench is solid; we lose little to nothin’ when we sub.

12/15: 7-0, #7, RPI #1, headin’ for the Caribbean Challenge. We face 3-4 George Washington first. We’re the #1 seed in a field that is not all that impressive.

12/16: 87-45. Ugly. +39 RBs. How is that even possible.

Next is #4 seed Boston College, 3-5. #2 an’ #3 lost so this is a walk in the park.

12/17: 68-54. Frankly, we didn’t play that well in the 2nd half. The game was locked up but we lost our focus. I read the riot act in the locker room after the game.

Alabama ST for the title. They’re then #7 seed, but they’re 8-0. They’ve played three decent teams but no one ranked. I let the guys know I had BETTER see big time effort!

12/18: 84-47. I got the effort I wanted, but it will be a continuing theme. Lose focus against a good team an’ you prob’ly lose the game. I’m happy with a lot of things this team is doing but maybe happier about nothin’ more than 11.0 TOs per.

12/25: 11-0, #1- first time for the school, first time for me, RPI #1. +20.3 PPG (#6), +20.8 RBs, (#1), +5.0 TOs (11.4 per). Just beat #9 Mich. ST by 12. No one in the PAC 12 is ranked so if we play as we should we could go into the NCAA tournamant undefeated.

1/1/1886: 2-0 ta start PAC 12 play. My guys are firing on all circuits.

1/15: 17-0, 6-0, #1, RPI #1. 1 up on #22 Arizona, 2 or more on the rest. I play 8 guys. They are all playing amazing ball right now. One 6 point win, everything else by 12 or more.

1/29: 21-0, 10-0, #1, RPI #1. +21.0 PPG (+2), +22.5 RBs (#1), +5.2 TOs (4). #2 in assists. 2 game lead on #21 Arizona. 4 or more up on everyone else. Our guys are still all getting it done.

Ab Chin is #7 on the Norton list, Kean Ferg #21, Ry Sart #22.

Kean Ferg is a great player but he really struggles with grades. We keep him connected to tutors, monitor his academic standing daily. He works at it but he is simply not a student. Hope to keep him eligible for the rest of this year and next.

2/12: 25-0, 14-0. #1, RPI #1. 4 game lead.

Chin is still #7 on the Norton list.

2/26: 29-0. 18-0. #1, RPI #1. +20.7 PPG, +24.4 RBs, +4.6 TOs. We win the PAC 12 by 5 games.

3/9: #9 seed Washington, 12-17, 8-10, in the quarters.

3/10: 68-44. 39-16 at the half. 57 RBs, 11 TOs.

Ferg hurt his foot. He’ll play, but I won’t risk making it worse.

#4 seed USC, 17-11, 10-8. Beat ‘em by 22 at our place but only 9 there.

3/11: 93-71. Ferg didn’t play much but Brum stepped up for him- 13, 5, 7. 19, 22 for Robb.

#2 seed Arizona, 21-8, 13-5, for the title. Beat them by 27 here.

3/12: 92-72. 53 RBs, 8 TOs.

32-0, #1, RPI #1. Everyone else in Div. I has at least 3 losses. If we stay focused and stay healthy we can do this. Ferg will be back to 100% for our next game.

#1 overall. We play 15-16 New Hampshire.

3/16: 90-63. 60 RBs, 7 TOs.

#8 seed, Wake Forest, 18-12, in the 2nd round. Beat ‘em by 17 there early on.

3/18: 79-41. 55-18 at the half. +28 RBs.

#5 seed Oklahoma ST, 25-8, in the Sweet Sixteen. Terrific outside game but we should own them inside.

3/23: 106-99 in OT. A genuine scare. They never went away. At the end of regulation their amazing PG hit a 23 footer for the tie. It was NOT a lucky shot. We took care of things in OT, but it was our first close call of the year. +14 RBs but they forced us into a season high 21 TOs.

#3 seed, #5 ranked Indiana, 32-4, in the elite Eight. Their C is the best player in the country.

3/25: 93-73. All 5 starters had 12 or more, and all had at least 8 RBs. We had 57 as a team.

#2 ranked UConn, 34-3, in the Final Four. A very good team, but they all are at this point.

All 4 #1 seeds are here.

4/1: 95-62. But it came with a price. Kal Robb got a bad wrist sprain an’ won’t play in the title game. Ram Ward will take his spot, with Will Shem subbing in.

#4 ranked Kansas, 32-3, for the title. Their SG and best player has been out for weeks with a broken wrist, so I guess we’re even in the injury department, both down one starter. They’re very good, an’ very deep.

4/3: 88-77 an’ the title! Ward led us with 23, 9. How’s that for fillin’ in! 18, 9, 6 for Sims, 15, 10 for Ferg, 10, 10 for Sart, 12, 7 for Chin. 54 RBs, 11 TOs, and an undefeated season, 38-0.

The Final Four was in Chicago, an’ we’re stayin’ an extra couple days ta see the sites.

4/4: Awards: Brik Sims was Final Four MOP. Ab Chin made 2nd team All American. I got national COY. In the PAC 12 Chin was POY, Def. POY, 1st team. Brik Sims was Frosh OY an’ 1st team, an’ Sart was 1st team. Kean Ferg an’ Kal Robb made 2nd team. They coulda all been 1st!

4/7: “The Eugene Organ” Tragedy in Wyoming: The University of Oregon basketball team, including all personnel, guests, and railroad employees were massacred on their way home from winning the national championship in Chicago.

It seems a trap was laid. As the train rounded a corner they ran into a barricade of rocks and boulders. The train was stopped and overturned by the collision. The trap had been set by Indians. It is not known how many survived the initial crash but all aboard were dead and scalped when the tragedy was discovered, and all possessions of value were stolen. This horror is one of the worst in the current conflict between the U. S. and the hostile Indians. President Cleveland has ordered troops to the area. A memorial service will be held in the near future.

Head Coach Buck Jones ends his career with a record of 364-127, .735.

(Thus ends this dynasty.)
