5/1: The usual.

Preseason #1.

Little used John Foye transferred out.

6/5: No one in the transfer pool.

6/26: 6 scholarships. We want 3 and 3.

8/7: Norton list: Ted Misk is #1, PF Bud Tash #2, PF Jay Pane #4, PF Greg Best #5, SG Sam Wood #6, PF Jay Cage #22, C Cal Robb #28, PG Matt Evan #29, C
Tray Wort #39.

8/21: We offer to 2 PGs, an SG, a PF, 2 Cs.

9/18: Got our 2 top recruits, SG #1, C #3. Lost 4.

No in season tournament this season. Tough schedule.

The largest ship ever built, the Lusitania, just made its first voyage. I’d love to see that boat!

9/25: Got 3, C #19, PG #20, C #23. We need a guard.

10/2: Got the PG, #27.

1st day of practice. Going for the threepeat, as well as the record of 88 straight wins. We’re at 78 right now.

11/6: 8 man rotation with a few others who deserve playing time:

Ido Tsak and Ted Misk are back one more time; they’re both seniors.

Junior Sam Wood starts at SF and backs up at both guard spots.

As they did last season, senior Bud Tash and soph Greg Best will start inside, but their subs, senior Jay Cage at PF and junior Cal Robb at C, will get lots of playing time.

Guys like Matt Evan, Shay Pane, Del Dean and tray Wort all deserve time, but there’s none left to give.

11/16: Oklahoma is now the 46th state!

11/20: 85-48, then 97-46. Both against very good teams.

All 6 recruits sign.

12/4: 6-0, #3, RPI #6. And Misk leads us in PPG (21.8) and RBs (8.3) again. Sam Wood is getting 17.7 and 8.2.

Win streak is at 84.

12/25: 9-0, #1, RPI #1. +31.6 PPG, +24.0 RBs, +5.1 TOs. Win streak at 87.

Heading for ACC play.

1/1/1908: 12-0. And 90 wins in a row; #89 was a new record!

They dropped some kind of ball in Times Square in NYC to signify the new year. What’s the point? I don’t get it.

1/15: 15-0, 6-0, #1, RPI #1. Tied for 1st with #4 Duke. We play there on the 28th. Misk, Wood, and Shay Pane, who is now starting at PF, are leading us.

1/29: The win streak ends at 96. We lose 79-81 at #4 Duke. They hit 20 threes, including the winner, and 71 of 81 outside.

18-1, 9-1, #1, RPI #1. In a 3 way tie for 1st in the ACC with Duke and #3 Syracuse. The ACC has #1, 3, 4, 6, 17, 21 in the Top 25.

Ted Misk is #11, Sam Wood #25 on the Norton list.

2/12: 22-1, 13-1, #1, RPI #1. In a 2 way tie for 1st with #3 Syracuse. Duke is 2 back. Everyone else is 4 or more back.

Misk remains #11 on the Norton list. He should be much higher.

2/26: We beat #3 Syracuse by 25 here in the last game of the regular season to sew up the title. 26-1, 17-1, +31.7 PPG (89.9), +24.7 RBs (58.6 per), +7.5 TOs (We
averaged an amazing 7.6). #1 in PPG, RBs, TOs, Assists, Steals Allowed. #2 in Blocks, #4 in PPG Allowed.

We crushed Duke by 35 in the rematch at our place.

Ted Misk is #9 on the Norton list.

On to the post season. Can we get the threepeat?

It’s an election year. People are encouraging Teddy Roosevelt to break tradition and run again. He’s been mum on the subject.

3/9: #10 seed UConn, 16-13, 8-10, in the quarters. (This is an error. We’re the #1 seed. We should be playing the winner of the 8-9 game.). We beat them by 40 at our place.

3/10: 96-48. 33, 9, 7 for Misk. +16 RBs, +11 TOs.

#5 seed, #7 ranked North Carolina, 24-8, 10-8, in the semis. We won by 14 there in Feb., but they can play!

3/11: 96-76. Up 16 at the half. 24, 10 for Misk, 26, 4 for Pane, 13, 13 for Best. 45 RBs, 4 TOs.

#2 seed, #3 ranked Syracuse, 29-3, 16-2, for the title. We just beat them big. Can we do it again?

3/12: 80-53. 6 players on double figures. 53 RBs, 10 TOs.

29-1, 17-1, #1, RPI #1. Michigan and UCLA have one loss each so the tourney should be interesting!

#1 overall. We play 18-13 Cal-Davis. 91-54. 55-29 at the half. 27, 6 for Wood, 20, 12 for Pane, 19, 11, 5 for Misk. 64 RBs, 6 TOs.

#9 seed NC ST, 17-12, in the 2nd round. Beat them by 31 and 25.

3/18: 92-56. 25, 7 for Wood, 20 for Pane, 12, 11 for Tash, 15 for Misk.

#4 seed, #19 ranked Louisville, 21-10, in the Sweet Sixteen. We won by 16 there, then by 34 here.

3/23: 73-58. 46-20 at the half. 19, 9, 3, 3 for Misk, 12, 13 for Best, 16, 6 for Pane.

#2 seed, #6 ranked Duke, 28-6, in the Elite Eight. They stopped out 96 game win streak, then we beat them by 35. Their PG is a 1st team All American.

3/25: 81-68. 17, 12 for Best, 17, 9 for Wood, 14, 7, 5, 4 for Pane, 15, 9, 6 for Misk, 12, 10, 5 for Tash. 53 RBs, 8 TOs.

And #5 ranked Michigan ST, 31-5, upset #2 ranked Michigan so we face them in the national semifinal game. We beat them by 19 in December. They’re another team with a great PG, but our PG, Ido Tsak, is our secret weapon. He dishes as well as anyone in the country, and he’s our best defender. Doesn’t score a lot so he doesn’t get mentioned often but he’s the guy who makes it all happen for us.

In the other game, it will be #3 ranked UCLA vs. #7 North Carolina. We beat UNC by 14 and 20, UCLA by 26.

4/1: 90-64. 21, 15 for Pane, 21, 8 for Best, 16, 7, 3, 3 for Wood, 14, 15, 7 for Tash, 12, 8, 5 for Misk. 60 RBs, 7 TOs.

One win away from the threepeat. It’s #3 UCLA, 34-1. We’re the only team that’s beaten them, as I said, by 26. Their outside game is their strength.

4/3: 85-79. It was a battle. They came within two points 5 times in the second half. Each time we stopped them and scored at our end after the stop.
18, 12, 4 for Bud Tash, 17, 13, 3 for Pane, 15, 9 for Misk, 9, 13 for Wood, 13, 5 for Best. 59 RBs, 7 TOs.

I had a VERY interesting conversation with the President of North Carolina. Let’s see what happens.

4/4: Awards: Shay Pane was named Final Four MOP. Ted Misk is 2nd team All American. I got National COY. In the ACC, Misk made 1st team. That’s it. I can’t believe people like Wood, Pane, and Best didn’t get named.

4/9: Well, that conversation at the Final Four led to a new job. I said no thanks to UCLA’s offer to coach them, and said yes to the University of North Carolina’s offer to become… their new Athletic Director! So my coaching career ends with the threepeat, and with a career record of 596-163, .785.

It was tempting to go for four here at Ga. Tech, but really, I’ve accomplished what want to accomplish as a coach, and at age 47, a few days away from 48, I’m ready for a new challenge!
