11/20: 2-0 start. We beat #24 Memphis, there, by 12. Frosh Center Will Seer looks terrific, averaging 27.5 and 16.0 with 5 blocks. It’s early, but wow!

All 3 recruits signed.

A new dance, the Charleston, has swept the nation. Seems everyone is doing this dance.

12/4: 6-0, #7, RPI #11. Seer averages 26.5, 13.0, 2.7 blocks. E beat #11 Michigan by 12 there.

12/25: 9-0, #7, RPI #8. +26.4 PPG (#7), +18.5 RBs (#4), +5.9 TOs (#6). Seer averages 26.2, 11.4, 2.7 blocks. Ando gets 13.0, 5.8.

It is conceivable that we could go to the post season with one loss.

1/1/1924: 2 easy wins to start SEC play. #7, RPI #5.

1/15: 15-0, 6-0, #5, RPI #5.

1/29: 19-0, 10-0, #5, RPI #2. 3 game lead in the SEC. +19.7 PPG, +15.0 RBs, +7.6 TOs. Holding opponents to 59.3 PPG!

Will Seer is #5 on the Norton list.

We’re really playing excellent ball, and we should go to the post season undefeated.

2/12: 23-0, 14-0, #5, RPI #1. 3 up on #14 Missouri, 5 or more on the rest. Will Seer remains #5 on the Norton list. We’ve never had an All American!

2/26: We end the regular season 26-1, 17-1. #5, RPI 2. #14, 2nd place Missouri beat us by 3 there. #5, RPI #2. We win the SEC by 3. +18.9 PPG, +15.9 RBs, +6.8 TOs.

3/5: Seer remains at #5 on the Norton list.

3/7: #8 seed Florida, 16-13, 8-10, in the quarters. We won by 14 there, and their starting guards are both banged up. They’ll probably play, but who knows how much and how well?

3/8: 65-56. 21, 6 for Seer, which is not a great game for him, 15, 12 for PF Adam Mase, 12 for Ando. +10 RBs, +11 TOs.

Kentucky was upset.

#5 seed Auburn, who upset KY, in the semis. They’re 19-10, 11-7. We won by 14 here and their starting C is hurt and out.

3/9: 95-53. It was never a game. All 5 starters had between 12 and 19. Both Mase and SF Marq Stow had double doubles. A remarkable +31 RBs (48-17).

#2 seed, #15 ranked Missouri, 23-6, 14-4. We won by 7 here, lost by 3 there, so the teams seem evenly matched. We feel that if we play our game we will win.

Will Seer hurt his hand. He’ll play.

3/10: 55-59. This was a real defensive battle. They shot 29.7%, we shot 29.1%. We just couldn’t make shots late. 21 TOs (They had 17). And Seer’s injured hand bothered him just enough to hurt his effectiveness.

Hope this doesn’t cost us a #1 seed.

28-2, 17-1. #5, RPI #5.

3/12: #1 Midwest, #2 overall. We play Arkansas ST, 18-13. Tough bracket.

3/16: 90-45. Ugly. 28, 9 for Seer, who’s back to 100%. +26 RBs, 4 TOs.

#9 seed Alabama, 19-13, in round 2.

3/18: 87-69. 29, 12 for Seer, 13, 11 for Mase, 15, 7, 2 for Ando, 19 for Chow, 7, 10 for Stow. +13 RBs, 8 TOs.

#4 seed, #17 ranked Wake Forest, 25-6, in the Sweet Sixteen. We like our chances.

3/23: 67-52. 27, 19 for Seer, who has been simply unstoppable. 13, 5 for Ando, 10, 6 for Mase. 45 RBs, 12 TOs. Hoping to ride Seer all the way!

#3 seed, #7 ranked Michigan ST, 30-5, in the Elite Eight. Their first big man off the bench is out with and injury, but they’re very good. We think we’re slightly better but we’ll need to show it.

3/25: 68-53, and back to the Final Four! 38, 16 for Seer, his best game yet! +9 RBs, 12 TOs.

We play #2 ranked Syracuse, 34-2. They are a very good basketball team.

In the other game it’s #1 ranked Kansas, 35-1 vs. #8 Georgia Tech, 30-7.

4/1: 47-66. Those last two steps are not easy. We keep getting closer, but we’re not quite there. Seer had 12 and 12, and out played his opposite by a wide margin, but they doubled him most of the night. No one else did much, certainly not enough. 22 TOs.

Oh well, another great season, all in all. We’re not losing much (Ando and Owen) and have some very good looking players coming in. Keep trying!

4/3: Syracuse won it all in a 4 point win over #1 Kansas.

4/4: Awards: Will Seer is a 1st team All American. In the SEC he’s 1st team and Frosh OY. Senior Matt Ando makes the 2nd team.

4/9: With a TP of 86, we don’t expect any good job offers.

Arizona, Louisville, Utah, all call. Good schools, good programs, not interested.

Michigan just called. Tempting… No.

4/16: No coaching vacancies to fill.

4/23: We just spent a LOT of money to retain our #1 assistant for a few years so I ask for another budget increase. We get $18,000. It doesn’t make up for what we spent, and it means we can’t buy the national gold, but I am no longer convinced that that effects who we land and who we don’t in any way.

Great season again, 32-3, Final Four for the 4th time in 5 years. Overall, after 17 seasons, I’m 464-116, .800.

5/1: East gold, nat. and internat. Basic.

Preseason #8.

6/5: No one in the transfer pool.

6/25: We red shirt a frosh guard.

6/26: 4 scholarships. We hope to land 2 and 2.

8/7: 6 on the Norton list: Will Seer is under rated at #10, C/PF Ed Just is at #32, PG Jeb Chow #34, PF Eric Hays #44, C/PF Marq Stow #46, C/PF/SF Adam Mase #47. We are LOADED inside. If our guards step up we will be very tough to beat.

8/21: We offer to a PG, an SG, a PF, and a C. The PG is a gamble.

9/18: Got 2, lost 2. Got a PF, #3, and another PF, #6. Need the guards now, which has been difficult lately.

No in season tournament again. Decent schedule but not as challenging as we’d like.

9/25: Got our 2 guards, an SG, #11, and a PG, #27.

10/2: 1st day of practice. This year’s team can challenge for the national title.

We’re picked 1st in the SEC.

11/6: 10 man rotation to start, mostly due to having so much talent:

Soph Al Beln starts at Pg, with redshirt frosh Elk Aers, and senior Pick Dura backing up; Dura also backs up at SG where senior Jeb Chow gets most of the minutes.

The usual scramble at SF with frosh Ed Junt starting, and junior Marq Stow and junior Jon Ward subbing; Ward also fills in at PF.

Senior Adam Mase is at PF, subbing at C. Junior Ed Hays also backs up here.

All American Will Seer is back at C.

Josephus thinks this is 4-5 years away but that it will be a disaster when it happens. He intends to watch the sign and get our family money out of the market and into safer investments in plenty of time.

Evidently our family fortune is worth about 2 to 2 ½ billion dollars. He says we will lose 1/3 to ½ no matter what he does when the crisis hits, but he feels he can keep us in a relatively safe position that will allow us to retain most of our holdings.

11/20: 2-0 start. 2 easy wins.

All 4 recruits sign.

12/4: 6-0. #7, RPI #5. We’re going to be a hard team to beat!

12/25: 9-0, #8, RPI #3. +27.5 PPG, +22.7 RBs, +4.2 TOs. Seer gets 21.6, 11.2, with 3.1 blocks. 15.1 for Chow, 10.6, 8.9 for Mase at PF.

1/1/1925: 2 easy wins to begin SEC play. I still say we’re going to be a difficult team to beat!

1/15: 15-0, 6-0, #6, RPI #1. Toughest game on the regular schedule comes up on 1/28, at #9 Kentucky. We’re tied with them for 1st, 1 up on 2 teams. It’s a very strong conference this year.

1/29: 19-0, 10-0, #6, RPI #1. We should be #4, or even #3. Disrespected. +23.1 PPG, +20.3 RBs, +4.2 TOs. 24.8, 12.1, 3.4 for Seer. 2 up on #8 Missouri, 3 or more on the rest.

Will Seer is #5 on the Norton list.

Still 3 Div. I undefeated teams, us, #1 Syracuse, #2 Texas. Mich. ST has only 1 loss. Everyone else has 3 or more.

2/12: 23-0, 14-0 #4, RPI #1.

Seer remains at #5 on the Norton list. He had a 38, 23 game last week!

Our last regular season game is at #7 Missouri. We won by only 8 here so that could be a challenge.

2/26: Missouri ended the win streak at 26, with a 10 point win. Except for Seer, 20, 10, no one did much on O.

26-1, 17-1, #4, RPI #1. +22.6 PPG, +20.3 RBs, +3.9 TOs. Seer continues to be our leader, a true superstar.

Our first man off the bench, Jon Ward broke his arm. Out for the season. Marq Stow and Eric Hays will pick up his minutes. It happened just before the Missouri game.

3/5: Seer jumps to #3 on the Norton list.

3/7: We play #8 South Carolina, 14-14, 8-10, in the quarters.

3/8: 92-51. 7 players scored between 14 and 9 points. 12 RBs for Seer, 11 for Junt. +24 RBs, 11 TOs.

#4 seed Alabama, 19-9, 11-7, in the semifinals. We beat them by 26 and 17.

3/9: 71-58. Easy win, 53 RBs, 6 TOs.

#2 seed, #7 ranked Missouri, 26-3, 16-2 for the title. We split with them.

3/10: 62-53. Great D! 15, 11 for Seer. We led all the way.

29-1, 17-1, #4, #1.

3/12: #1 Midwest. We play 17-13 Milwaukee.

3/16: 86-52. 20, 8 for Seer, 14, 12 for Mase, 16, 4, 4 for Chow. +19 RBs, 10 TOs.

#8 seed Alabama, 20-10, in round 2. We’ve beaten them easily all three times this season.

3/18: 87-71. 27, 8 for Seer, 22, 5, 7 for Chow, 12, 4, 7 for Dura, 12 RBs for Mase. +20 RBs, 9 TOs.

#4 seed, #16 ranked Cincinnati, 26-8, in the Sweet Sixteen.

3/23: 81-66. 20 for Seer, 13 RBs for Mase, 10, 4, 9 for Chow, 11, 5 for Hays. +12 TOs.

Tough one in the Elite Eight, #2 seed, #2 ranked, Texas, 35-1. How is this not a Final Four matchup! On paper they have the edge, and the bookies have them at +2.5. We’ll see!

3/25: 54-49. Never more than 8 between the 2 teams. We got hot late, building that 8 point lead with 2 minutes left. We hung on and made our foul shots after that. It was an INTENSE defensive battle. They shot 26.7%, we shot 29.4%. +6 RBs, +4 TOs made a big difference. Only 5 scored for us, but all had between 9 and 13. 13 RBs for Seer. 8 assists for Chow. Great win, and back to the Final Four!

We play #1 ranked Syracuse, 36-0. That will be no picnic!

On the other side it’s #3 Michigan ST, 34-3, vs. #5 Duke, 31-5.

On paper Syracuse beats us up. Again, we’ll see!

4/1: 77-79. We led all the way and blew a 20 point lead at the end. I don’t understand how we lost this game. 33, 11 for Seer, 14, 13 for Mase. +12 RBs. -9 TOs hurt. I guess they won because they decided to spend the 2nd doing nothing but throwing up threes. They only hit 30% of them but they took FIFTY, making 15.

We compensated and brought our D outside, but again, they kept throwing them up, and enough went in, including the last one, at the buzzer, that decided it.

No chance I’ll sleep a wink tonight.

4/3: #3 Michigan ST won by 13 for the title.

4/4: Awards: Will Seer repeats as a 1st team All American. In conf., Seer makes 1st team, and he’s the only person honored. Um, we won the conf.? Insulting!

4/9: Our TP is 89. I’m not expecting any job offers that match that.

Nope.

4/23: I ask for $ again. HUGE increase, $44,000. I should not need to ask again!

33-2, 17-1, Final Four again. Overall, I’m 497-118, .808.

Try to win it all again next year!

5/1: National gold, international basic.

#2 preseason.

6/5: Given that very good PGs seem so difficult to get, if I find a good one transferring I may take the hit and cut someone. I have 2 who are not ready. I’d like to cut one and redshirt one.

6/12: We get a very good looking PG from Wake Forest.

6/26: 3 recruits. We want 2 inside players, maybe 3.

July 11. Something called the “Scopes ‘Monkey’ Trial opened in Tennessee. Mr. Scopes was teaching evolution to his high school biology class, which is illegal in that ignorant state. Let’s see how this comes out. Two HIGH powered people. Clarence Darrow for ther defense, and three time Presidential candidate William Jennings Bryan for the prosecution.

8/7: 7 on the Norton list: Will Seer is #3, C Ed Junt is #23, PF Eric Hyas #27, C MarQ Stow #28, SG Jon Jaes #33, C Rik Penn #45, and PG Al Beln #46.

8/21: We offer to a PG, an SF, and a PF.

9/18: Got the SF, #7. Lost the other two but we have good prospects!

Sunshine Shootout vs. Jacksonville ST. Good teams simply will not play us, even on the road.

9/25: Got one, lost one. Got the PG, #9. We need a big guy.

10/2: 1st day of practice. This team can win it all. We’re VERY good. I’d like one more top flight guard, but we have everything else.

10/9: We may bank a scholarship. Only 2 available next season and we don’t see anyone left that we really want.

11/6: 9 man rotation:

Junior Al Beln is at PG, subbing at SG. Frosh Jon Jaes is at SG. Soph Elk Aers subs at PG.

Senior Eric Hays starts at SF, subs at PF, with 3 guys getting sub minutes at SF, senior Marq Stow, soph Ed Junt, and frosh Ad Lyda.

Frosh Ban Rolt starts at PF, subs at C.

Two time 1st team All American Will Seer is back at C.

Let’s see if this is our year!

11/20: 2 laughers. In the 1st it was 46-5 at the half. Never saw anything like that in my life!

Both recruits sign.

12/4: 5-0. Not a close game yet. Seers is getting 21.6 and 12.4. Hays is at 13.8, 8.6, and Jaes scores 13.6.

At Wisconsin then on to the Sunshine Shootout vs. Jacksonville ST. We’re the #1 seed.

12/9: 85-61. 21, 10 for sub big man Ad Lyda, 20, 6 for Seer.

#4 seed Clemson, 3-4, in the semifinals.

12/10: 77-47. 26, 9 for Seer, 16, 15 for Rolt.

#7 seed Penn, 6-3, for the title.

12/11: 74-56. 17, 13 for Seer, 16, 11 for Jaes,15, 3, 4 for Beln, 10, 7 for Rolt.

12/25: 11-0, #3, RPI #3. +26.9 PPG (#4), +24.2 RBs (#1), +4.7 TOs (#8). #1 in blocks, #1 in RBs Allowed, #4 in PPG Allowed, #4 in Assists Allowed, #5 in Steals Allowed.

23, 11.7 for Seer. 12.7, 10.5 for Rolt, 13.8 for Jaes.

3/7: It will be #9 seed Auburn, 13-15, 8-10, in the quarters.

3/8: 86-59. 25, 11 for Seer, 20, 13 for Rolt, 10, 11 for Hays, 9, 10, 4 for Jaes. Yes, we rebounded! +27!

#4 seed Missouri, 15-13, 10-8, in the semis. They’re not at all the team they’ve been over the past few seasons.

3/9: 70-55. 31, 16 for Seer, 11, 14 for Rolt.

#2 seed, #12 ranked Florida, 25-6, 13-5, for the title. They’re the only other SEC team who really did anything this year, but their #1 rebounder, #2 scorer, and best defender broke his wrist 3 games ago. We beat them by 16 there, before he got hurt.

3/10: 78-61. 27, 18, 4, 4, 6 for4 Seer, 21, 8 for Rolt, 12, 8 for Hays. +27 RBs.

32-0, 18-0, #3, RPI #3. We’ll be a #1 somewhere.

3/12: #1 South. We’ll play College of Charleston, 19-11. This is a good bracket for us. Love being on the right side of the bracket!

3/17: 76-37. Never a game, as expected. 21, 20 for Seer,, 12, 11 for sixth man Ad Lyda. 59 RBs, 8 TOs.

#8 seed Louisiana Tech, 25-7 is next.

3/19: 78-64. It wasn’t that close. 31, 13 for Seer, 19 for Jaes, 16 for Lyda, 13 RBs for Rolt. +20 RBs.

#5 seed, #18 ranked North Carolina, 23-9, in the Sweet Sixteen. They’re good, only good teams are left, but we should beat them.

3/24: 106-76. I expected a tougher game. 38, 11 for Seer, 21, 8 for Jaes, 12, 2, 11 for Beln, 14, 6, 4 for Lyda, 9, 17 for Rolt. +19 RBs, 9 TOs.

#6 seed, #24 ranked Oklahoma, 24-9, in the Elite Eight.

#1 ranked Syracuse was shocked by #4 Texas!

3/26: 79-59, and back to the Final Four! 27, 5 for Seer, 12, 13 for Rolt, 13, 6 for Lyda, 10, 5, 4, 3, 3 for Jaes.

We’ll play #5 ranked Michigan ST, 32-2, in the national semifinal. They’re an excellent team but we match up well against them.

On the other side it’s #2 Kansas, 36-1 vs. #4 Texas, 32-3. 4 very solid teams left.

4/1: 91-72 and we’re back in the title game! 32, 16 for Seer, 16, 10 for Lyda, 3 others with 10 or more. 52 RBs (+20), 10 TOs.

It’s #4 ranked Texas, 33-3. We think we’re the better team. We need to control the boards, which is their strength. We think we can. This is it, best shot we’ve had at a national title!

4/3: 76-65! Texas was determined that Will Seer would not beat them so they doubled, even tripled him all night, and kept him off the boards. That worked, but it gained them nothing. We simply went to everyone else, and Jaes had 20, 5, Rolt had 13 and 12, Hays had 14, 11, Lyda had 11 and 11. We were +14 on the boards but were awful with the ball, 21 TOs, 11 belonging to PG Al Beln, who I eventually took out and replaced with Elk Aers, who did much better. The game was never close. We were up 11 at the half, and led by as many as 21. We cleared the bench at the end so everyone could be part of this, and that led to the relatively close final score. In any case, we are the CHAMPIONS!!!

4/4: Awards: Will Seer was Final Four MOP, mostly based upon his fantastic semifinal performance. Will also made 1st team All American for the 3rd straight season, and I’m thrilled about that. I am the National COY. In conference, Will is POY and 1st team. Ban Rolt is Frosh OY and also 1st team, which is well deserved. Senior Eric Hays and frosh Jon Jaes made 2nd team.

4/9: Kansas is offering me the moon to go there, but I doubt that I will ever leave UMass at this point. Our TP is 95, and our budget is solid. We want to bump up the facilities, and that’s really all that we need to do.

4/23: We ask for that facilities upgrade. Yes! B+ to A!

38-0, undefeated national champs!

Overall, I’m 535-118, .819 after 19 seasons.

Let’s go for 2!
