1/15: 17-0, 6-0, #2, RPI #1. Duke lost. Free still leads us with 25.5, 11.8. He is #2 on the Norton list.

1/17: $2.8 million stolen from a Brinks armored car in Boston.

1/29: 21-0, 10-0, #3, RPI #1. We should be #2, not #3. +13.7 PPG, +17.3 RBs, +4.5 TOs, +6.4 assists. Tied for 1st in the Big 10, 3 up on 3rd place.

Kurt Free is #3, Stan Bayn #21, and Ron Ward #30 on the Norton list.

2/12: 24-1, 13-1. #3, RPI #1. We lost to #1 Maryland by 12 there. Free is still #3 on the Norton list.

Neo-fascist Sen. Joe McCarthy from Wisconsin begins to draw attention for his lies and false claims.

2/26: We end the regular season at 28-1, 17-1, #3, RPI #1. Alone in 2nd in the Big East, 4 up on 3rd. +22.7 PPG, +16.6 RBs, +3.7 TOs. Free remains 3rd in the Norton poll.

3/8: 84-70. 17, 17 for PF Stan Bayn, 20, 5, 4 for SF Sho Tyle, 19, 5 for Free, 14, 5, 3 for SG Art Jory. 47 RBs, 9 TOs.

#3 seed, #16 ranked Indiana, 21-9, 13-5 in the semis. We won by 31 here, 14 there.

3/9: 75-63. 18, 20 for Free, 23 for Tyle. 51 RBs, 8 TOs.

#1 seed, #1 ranked Maryland, 32-0, for the Big 10 title. They won by 12 there. Their PG has a sore hand but he’ll play.

3/10: 86-76! We built a 20 point lead early, 19 at the half, and hung on. The final was as close as it got in the 2nd half. 22, 17 for Free, 19, 4 for PG Ron Ward, 13, 10 for Bayn, 12, 2, 5 for #3 guard Alex Book. 48 RBs, 5 TOs. Great win!

31-1, 17-1, #2, RPI #1. #1 overall?

3/12: #1 overall. We play Western Illinois, 15-16. We like this bracket.

3/16: 83-40. 25, 19 for Free, 11, 22 for Bayn, 16 for Tyle. 67 RBs, 11 TOs.

#8 seed Purdue, 18-12, again.

3/18: 92-71. 34, 18 for Free, 16, 7 for Tyle, 11, 5, 10 for Ward, 14, 5, 5 for Jory. +27 RBs.

#4 seed, #18 ranked Indiana, 23-10, in the Sweet Sixteen. This is the Big 10 tourney all over again.

3/23: 81-58. 21, 14 for Free, 15, 9 for Tyle. 49 RBs, 5 TOs.

#3 seed, #9 ranked Mississippi ST, 28-7, in the Elite Eight. We beat them by 16 in the season opener.

3/25: 77-59 and we’re in the Final Four! 18, 9 for Free, 13, 13 for Bayn, 17, 2, 5 for Ward, 14, 7 for Tyle. 46 RBs, 9 TOs.

#1 ranked Maryland in the national semifinal. They beat us by 12 there, in the regular season, and we won by 10 in the Big 10 title game.

4/1: 73-83. 24, 2, 7 for Ward, 10, 11 for Free despite foul trouble. They were the better team today.

U. S. population tops 150 million for the first time.

4/3: Maryland won it all again.

4/4: Awards: Kurt Free was National Frosh OY and 1st team All American. In the Big 10 Free was POY, Frosh OY, and 1st team. Stan Bayn made 2nd team and I was named COY.

4/23: I ask for a budget increase. We get $20,000, which offsets some of the money we spent extending the contracts of our assistants.

The first “shopping mall” in the U. S., possibly in the world, opens in Seattle.

35-2, Final Four. Overall, I’m 535-168, .761.

The Korean War begins when U.S. forces under the U.N. invade.

Things are heating up in Vietnam.

8/7: 6 on the Norton list: C Kurt Free is #12, PG Ron Ward #13, SF Sho Tyle #15, SG Alex Book #29, PG Art Jory #31, and C Stan Bayn #33.

8/21: We offer to a PF and 3 Cs.

9/18: Got 2, a C, #9, a PF, #11.

Coaches Classic vs. Milwaukee. Tough schedule.

9/25: Got the other 2, A C, #1, and another C, #4.

McCarthyism is gaining strength.

10/2: 1st day of practice. I like this team!

11/1: An assassination attempt on President Truman fails.

11/6: 8 man rotation:

Senior Art Jory and junior Ron Ward are back starting at the guard spots with junior Alex Book back in a supporting role.

Soph Sho Tyle is back at SF, with senior Rob Kedd backing up.

Senior Stan Bayn is back at PF, subbing at C. Soph Ryan Pesk backs up at PF.

Soph Kurt Free is back at C.

A very experienced team. We’re planning on doing everything we can to win it all this year!

11/13: We begin at the Coaches Classic vs. Milwaukee. We’re the #2 seed. Milwaukee is #15.

82-44. 28, 9 for Free, 14 for PG Ron Ward. +9 RBs, +16 TOs.

#10 seed Purdue in the round of 8.

11/15: 71-51. 19, 16 for Bayn, 14, 13 for Free. 61 RBs, 12 TOs.

#3 seed, #12 ranked UConn in the semis.

11/17: 87-69. 7, 16 for Free, 19, 9 for Bayn. 52 RBs, 11 TOs.

#4 seed, #8 ranked Mississippi ST for the title.

11/19: 74-54. 27, 17 for Free. Tyle, Bayn, and Jory had 11 each. 45 RBs, 13 TOs.

#1 ranked.

All 4 recruits sign.

2 at home then 6 in a row on the road.

11/26: Chinese forces drive the U.S./U.N. invaders south to the 38th parallel.

12/4: 8-0, #2, RPI #3. Free leads us with 25.8, 11.6.

12/25: 11-1, #2, RPI #1. +17.3 PPG, +14.5 RBs, +6.3 TOs. We lost at Wake Forest by 3 on a buzzer beating 27 footer.

Free continues to lead us with 25.8 and 12.8.

Egypt is breaking free from British colonial rule.

2/12: 24-2, 13-1, #2, RPI #1. Alone in 1st in the Big 10, 1 up on #1 Maryland and #15 Purdue.

Kurt Free is #3 on the Norton list.

2/26: 28-2, 17-1, #2, RPI #1. We win the Big 10 by 2 games. +21.2 PPG, +15.9 RBs, +6.5 TOs.

Constitutional amendment limits President to 2 full terms.

3/5: #2, RPI #1. Free remains #3 on the Norton list.

3/7: We play #8 seed Northwestern, 13-15, 7-11 in the 1/4 finals.

3/8: 85-55. 26,21 for Free, 16, 14 for Bayn, 20, 6 for Tyle. 58 RBs, 5 TOs.

#4 seed, #17 ranked Michigan ST, 23-7, 13-5, in the semis. We beat them by 20 and 14 in the regular season.

3/9: 82-59. 31, 20, 3, 3, 4 for Free, 16, 7 for Jory. 48 RBs, 12 TOs.

#2 seed, #1 ranked Maryland, 29-3, 15-3, for the title. They won by 7 there, then we won by 8 at our place. Let’s see what happens.

3/10: 85-67. 24, 7 for Tyle, 13, 18 for Free, 14, 11 for Bayn, 16, 2, 8 for Ward, 11, 7, 4 for Jory. 50 RBs, 9 TOs. It was close for about 30 minutes. Then we went on an 11-
2 run, and soon after, a 16-3 run.

3/12: #1 overall. We play 10-21 Mount St Mary first.

3/16: 85-61. 18, 14, 4 for Bayn, 16, 8 for Free, 15, 7 for Tyle, 8, 8, 7 for Ward, 13 for Jory. 47 RBs, 12 TOs.

#8 seed Pitt, 19-11, in Round 2.

3/18: 90-55.29 for Jory, 18, 6, 8 for Ward, 13, 9 for Free, 12, 7 for Tyle. 47 RBs, 7 TOs.

#4 seed, #11 ranked UConn, 27-7, in the Sweet Sixteen. We beat them by 18 in the Coaches Classic, but that was a long time ago.

3/23: 81-73. They were up 14 at the half. We didn’t take the lead until 6:05 remained. 22, 20 for Bayn, 16, 10, 4 for Tyle, 12, 7 for 6th man Ryan Pesk. Free was in foul trouble all night. 52 RBs, but 16 TOs.

#2 overall seed Missouri lost.

#2 seed, #4 ranked Stanford, 33-2, in the Elite Eight. Their Sg is the #2 player in the country.

3/25: 89-71. We took an early lead and were never threatened. 37, 17 for Free, 19, 6, 3 for Tyle. 53 RBs, 12 TOs. Their SG got 31, but it didn’t matter.

We're in the Final Four vs. #7 ranked UCLA, 31-6. We beat them by 20 at our place in November. They have an excellent outside game.

On the other side it’s #19 ranked Purdue vs. #5 Kentucky.

4/1: 82-57. Never a game. 21 for Tyle, 18, 7 for Bayn, 14, 9 for Free, 10, 6, 3, 4 for Jory, 6, 4, 10 for Ward. 47 RBs (+12) but 18 TOs (-3).

It’s #5 Kentucky, 32-4, for the national title. They look stronger outside, we are stronger inside, so we need to play this game close to the hoop.The Rosenbergs are sentenced to death for spying.

War rages on in Korea.

4/3: 89-70 and our first title, my 3rd! 21, 10 for Free, 16, 3, 6 for Ward, 12, 9, 3 for Tyle, but our 6th and 7th men won it for us. #3 guard Alex Book had 14, 5, 5 and Pesk had 12.

4/4: Awards: Kurt Free was FInal Four MOP and 1st team All American. I was national COY. In Conf. Free was POY, Def. POY, and 1st team. Stan Bayn made 2nd team.

4/9: My dream school has always been Michigan ST. They offered, I’m going.

4/16: We need to hire three assistants.

Got 3 good ones!

General MacArthur defies President Truman, and Truman fires him.

4/23: I ask for a facilities upgrade. Got it. We go from C+ to B.

37-2, national title. Overall, I’m 572-170, .771.

One more rebuilding job. This is my last stop.

5/1: National Gold, International Basic.

We have one decent guard and he won’t play 1st semester due to grades.

Preseason #14.

6/5: Looking at transfers. One we really like.

6/12: We got a VERY good looking PF from Arizona.

6/26: 6 scholarships. We need at least 3 guards.

The French score a major victory over the Viet Minh.

There is talk of peace negotiations for Korea.

8/7: Center Lon Dane is #21 and Center Tori Mill #32 on the Norton list.

8/21: We offer to 3 PGs, an SG, a PF, and a C.

9/18: We get 3: a PG, #2, an SG, #5, a PG, #14. We lose a PF and a C.

Sunshine Shootout. Strong schedule.

9/25: We get a PG, #4, and a C, #17, a PF, #18.

10/2: 1st day of practice. We are very weak at guard. Atly will be eligible on 12/26, which will help a lot.

10/26: Winston Churchill returns to the Prime Ministership after a 6 year absence.

11/6: 7 man rotation:

Walk on senior Clay Jony is at PG.

Juco junior Ray Reed is at SG. Walk on junior Lane Bate backs up at both guard spots.

Junior Shay Wilk starts at SF.

Senior Tory Mill starts at PF, subs at C.

Senior Lon Dane starts at C.

Senior Eric Guth subs at SF and PF.

11/20: 2-0 start. #9. Walk on PG Clay Jony exceeded all expectations in the first 2 games.

All 6 recruits signed.

12/4: 4-1. #16, RPI #22. Lon Dane leads us with 15.2, 8.2. All 5 starters average 10.0 or more.

We host #11 Georgetown, then go to the Sunshine Shootout.

12/9: 70-45 over # 8 seed Boise ST, we’re the #1 seed, in the 1st round of the Sunshine Shootout. 27, 11 for PF/C Tori Mill, 12, 16 for C Lon Dane. 46 RBs, 9 TOs.

#5 seed St. Joe’s, 5-2, in the semis.

12/10: 66-41. 15, 8 for Mill, 11, 12 for Dane, 13, 5, 3, 2, 3 for SF Shay Wilk. 45 RBs.

#3 seed, #23 ranked Missouri, 6-1, for the title.

12/11: 66-82. We didn’t play very well tonight. 17, 11 for Mill, 14, 12 for Dane, 20 for SG Ray Reed. 19 TOs (-12).

12/25: 8-3, #10, RPI #14. +11.6 PPG, +14.1 RBs, +1.1 TOs.

Guard Nat Atly is now eligible. He will make us a much better team! Atly will play SG, and Jony and Reed will share the Point with Reed backing up at SG.

1/1/1952: 10-3, 2-0. Atly gives us an outside scoring threat and depth at guard.

1/15: 13-4, 5-1, #10, RPI #15.

2 very tough games this week.

1/29: 16-5, 8-2, #10, RPI #8. In a 3 way tie for 2nd, 1 back of 1st, with 8 to play. We should win at least 6 of them, with luck 7, and 8 is not out of the question.

Wilk missed 3 games with an injury but we won 2 of them.

Lon Dane is #16, and Tori Mill #23 on the Norton List.

2/6: Princess Elizabeth becomes Queen Elizabeth II.

2/12: 19-6, 11-3, #10, RPI #8. In a 2 way tie for 2nd.

Dane is #16, Mill #20 on the Norton list.

The first Winter Olympics take place in Helsinki.

2/26: We end the regular season at 22-7, 14-4, #10, RPI #8.

3/5: #11, RPI #7. Heading to the post season, we’re #2 in the Big 10.
