3/7: We play #7 seed Michigan, 15-13, 8-10, in the quarter finals. Beat them by 21 at our place then lost by 16 there. Their starting SF is out with a broken foot.

3/8: 75-66. 26, 6 for Wilk, 12, 5 for Reed, 11, 3, 3 for Atly, who has made a real difference.

#3 seed, #4 ranked Maryland, 25-6, 14-4, in the semifinals. Their 1st big man off the bench is out with an ACL. We won by 17 at our place but this is an elite team that will be looking for payback.

3/9: 69-77. We trailed all the way. Got it to 4 three times, but never got it to one possession. 15, 5, 4 for Atly, 11, 6, 3 for Wilk. -15 RBs. Not many teams outplay our inside guys but Maryland did.

23-8, 14-4, #12, RPI #10. Hoping for a #2, but #3 is more likely.

3/12: #3 South. We’ll play #14 Air Force, 16-15.

3/17: 76-55. Never a contest. 28, 22 for Dane, possibly his best college game ever. 19, 9 for Mill. +18 RBs, 10 TOs.

#6 seed, #24 ranked Weber ST, 26-6 in Round 2.

3/19: 86-88 in OT. The O was fine. The D sucked. 17 TOs didn’t help, and -11 RBs killed us. 22, 5, 7 for Atly, but 8 TOs.

We knew we were a year away. Next year we go for the title!

4/3: #3 UCLA beats #2 Iowa for the title.

4/4: Awards: Lon Dane made Big 10 1st team. Tori Mill made 2nd. Both are seniors.

4/9: President Truman seizes the steel mills in an attempt to avert a national strike/lockout. This is ruled unconstitutional and reversed.

Fulgencio Batista, a right wing extremist, leads a military coup and seizes power in Cuba.

Television becomes extremely popular in the U. S. Millions have 13 inch, black and white TV sets.

4/23: I ask for a budget increase. Got $25,000.

24-9, 14-4. Great first season! Overall, I’m 596-179, .769.

Running at the title next season!

11/20: 2-0. All 7 in the rotation played well in both games. #6.

All 4 recruits sign. Still chasing a guard.

11/27: We lose the PG recruit. Not sure we’ll fill that last spot. One prospect at this point and we are not offering to him.

12/1: Christine Jorgensen becomes the first person to have gender reassignment surgery.

12/2: A coup in Venezuala. Perez Jimenez comes to power.

12/4: 6-0, #4, RPI #2.

12/23: A killer fog in London kills at least 4,000.

12/25: 9-0, #5, RPI #1. +15.4 PPG, +13.9 RBs, +1.3 TOs.

It’s still about the 7 player rotation. Vido is our leader with 15.0, 11.9, 3.3 blocks, but the other 6 all make valuable contributions and all average at least 20.8 MPG.

1/1/1953: 11-0, 2-0. #3, RPI #1.

1/15: 15-0, 6-0, #3, RPI #2. Our 7 continue to do the job!

1/29: 19-0, 10-0, #4, RPI #2. No idea why we dropped a spot. +17.9 PPG, +13.4 RBs, +2.8 TOs.

2/12: 22-1, 13-1, #4, RPI #2. Tied for 1st in the Big 10.

No undefeated teams in Div. I. Only #1 Kentucky and us have 1 loss, and only #5 New Mexico has 2.

2/26: We end the regular season at 26-1, 17-1, #4, RPI #1. We should be ranked 2nd or 3rd. Tied for 1st in the Big 10, #2 seed. +16.6 PPG, +12.2 RBs, +3.2 TOs. Vido still leads us with 16.0, 11.7, 2.4 blocks.

3/5: Stalin dies after suffering a stroke, or perhaps being poisoned.

3/7: #10 seed Illinois, 13-16, 7-11, in the quarters. We won by only 7 at home.

3/8: 92-59. 19, 12 for PF Ben Sikh, 18, 15 for C Ben Vido, 14, 4, 10 for Atly, 14 for guard Cam Paul, , 10, 9 for forward Cal Cook. 58 RBs, 7 TOs.

#3 seed, #13 ranked Maryland, 22-7, in the semis. We beat them by 25 and 12.

3/9: 57-75. We were awful. Cal Cook had 17 and 15 and no one else did a thing. We shot 29.8%, were only +1 on the boards, and were -6 in TOs. The officials didn’t help, but we stunk the place out.

The chance for a #1 seed may be gone.

27-2, 17-1.

3/12: #1 West! We like the bracket. We start with Cal-Riverside, 16-15.

3/17: 80-54. 16, 15, 5 blocks for Vido, 13, 17 for Cook, 11, 10 for Sikh, 11, 5, 4 for Atly. 55 RBs, 3 TOs.

#9 seed LSU, 18-12, in Round 2.

3/19: 84-72, but we were never threatened. 20, 14 for Sikh, 15, 12 for Vido, 17, 7, 3 for Atly, 15, 4, 3 for Paul. 50 RBs, 11 TOs.

#5 seed, #23 ranked UConn, 21-11, in the Sweet Sixteen.

3/24: 89-76. 29, 9 for Vido, 26 for Sikh, 3, 8, 11 for Atly. 7 TOs.

#2 seed, #11 ranked Cincinnati, 30-4, in the Elite Eight.

3/26: 71-58, and we’re in the Final Four! It stayed close for almost 35 minutes. A 19-4 run got us home. 14, 17 for Cook, 16, 11 for Sikh, 17, 3, 4 for Atly.

#1 ranked Iowa, 34-3, in the national semifinal. They won by 10 there. We need our A game tonight!

4/1: 67-74. They exploded out to a 20 point lead early. It was 15 at the half. We got it to 4 three times, but no closer. 16, 10 for Vido, 14 for Sikh, 12 each for Cook and Atly.

Oh well, next year.

4/3: #3 UCLA upset Iowa for the title.

4/4: Awards: Cal Cook is Big 10 Frosh OY. Ben Vido made 2nd team. We were disrespected. We finished tied for 1st.

4/23: I ask for a facilities upgrade. No.

31-3, 17-1, Final Four. Overall, I’m 627-182, .775.

11/20: 2-0. We crushed #4 Arizona and then did the same to Utah.

All 3 recruits signed.

12/4: 6-0, #1, RPI #1. Vido leads us with 15.3, 12.5, 3.2 blocks, 3.2 steals. Guards Cam Paul and Tom Haze are also scoring points. We look good!

12/9: Cambodia gains full independence.

12/25: 8-1, #2, RPI #1. +12.8 PPG, +13.1 RBs,+2.6 TOs. Arizona is #1. We beat them by 35. Makes no sense.

Vido, Haze, and Paul continue to lead the O.

3/7: We ply #8 seed Minnesota, 17-12, 8-10, in the quarter finals.

3/8: 6-55. 19, 10 for Vido, 22 for PG Cam Paul, 14, 6, 3 for SG Tom Haze. +17 RBs, +7 TOs.

#4 seed, #21 ranked Michigan, 22-8, 13-5, in the semifinals. We won by 12 here, then lost by 12 in the regular season finale.

3/9: 79-50. All 5 starters get 10 or more with three getting double doubles. +16 RBs, +7 TOs.

#3 seed, #11 ranked Iowa, 22-7, 14-4, for the title. We won by 22 at our place.

3/10: 83-65. 24, 16 for Vido, 26, 12 for Haze, 11, 14 for Cook. 22 RBs, +11 TOs.

28-2, 17-1, #1, RI #1. #1 overall? We should be!

3/12: #1 overall. We start with 16-15 North Dakota ST.

3/16: 74-59. 21 for Paul. We were sluggish. They’ll pay at practice. I need to wake them up.

#9 seed Georgetown, 20-9, in Round 2.

3/18: 83-60. Better. 24 for Paul, 16 each for Haze and Vido. +12 TOs.

TOs but we’re back to the Final Four.

We play #2 ranked Kentucky, 32-2. They are very much an outside team. If Paul plays the way he has we’ll beat them. We have 3 outstanding guards, and we’re better inside. BUT… you have to do it!

4/1: No. 72-88. We were awful on D. Their SG had 34 and 10, and two other guards lit us up. I’m disappointed. I thought this was our year.

On the other side it’s #6 ranked Stanford, 34-3, vs. #11 Iowa, 26-8.

4/3: Kentucky crushed Iowa by 28 for the title, with their guards doing it again. Their PG had 20, 14, 13, and their SG had 30.
