3/5: Sean Bank is #10 on the Norton list.

Amin Al-Husseini, in one of his many broadcasts from Berlin, heard in much of the Arab world, tells Muslim SS soldiers: "Kill the Jews wherever you find them. This pleases God, History and Religion. This saves your honor. God is with you."

3/7: We play #7 seed Michigan ST, 14-14, 8-10, in the quarter finals. Beat them by 8 twice.

3/8: 89-82. 34, 17 for Toms, 14, 10 for Bank, 15 for Herr. +12 RBs.

#3 seed, #17 ranked Iowa, 22-7, 12-6, in the semifinals. We won by 17 there.

3/9: 72-70. 22, 15 for Bank who got the winner with 1.1 left. 16, 9 for Toms. +11 Rbs.

#1 seed, #9 ranked Indiana, 25-4, 16-2, for the title. They won by 4 there. This shapes up as a close game.

3/10: 67-70. We never led, and the only tie was at 0-0, but we had the ball at the end and just missed a three that would have sent the game to OT. 27, 13 for Bank,
14, 11 for Toms. +9 RBs, 10 TOs. We shot 28.3%, which is what did us in.

23-8, 13-5, #14, RPI #10. We think we should be a #2 seed.

3/12: #3 Midwest. We play #14 SE Missouri ST, 19-10.

3/16: 89-57. 24, 12 for Bank, 11, 17 for Toms, 20, 3, 6 for Herr, 18, 6, 5 for Whay. +14 RBs, 3 TOs.

#6 seed, #13 ranked Gonzaga, 27-5, in round 2. They’re good, but we think we’re better.

3/18: 78-58. 26, 16 for Bank, 14, 8 for Toms. +14 RBs, 12 TOs.

#2 seed, #9 ranked Stanford, 26-8, in the Sweet Sixteen. They have very good guards.

3/23: 85-71. 30, 14 for Toms, 19, 8, 4 for Herr, 17, 8 for Bank, 9, 10, 7 for Whay. +13 RBs, 10 TOs.

For the 2nd time in 3 years we’re in the Elite Eight. We play #1 seed, #1 ranked Duke, 35-0. We’re going to need to be at our very best.

3/25: 54-74. We shot 20.5%, much of it because of Duke’s great D. 1-21 on threes. 25-10 for Bank in his last college game. 13, 12 for Toms. +10 RBs, 10 TOs.

Despite the loss of Banks I think we’ll be a better team next year.

4/3: #7 Kentucky wins it all.
4/4: Awards: Sean Bank is named 2nd team All American. In conf., Bank makes the 1st team, and junior Kyle Toms makes 2nd.

4/23: I ask for a budget increase. I spent a lot of money extending my assistants. We get $18,000. I won’t be able to buy the top reports, but I’ll take it.

26-9, 13-5, Elite Eight. Overall, after 15 seasons, I’m 342-146, .701.

Persecution of Jews continues in all axis controlled countries.

NIT vs. UNLV. Challenging schedule.

Rommel is forced to suicide by Hitler.

11/13: We begin the season at the NIT vs. LSU. We are the #6 seed, they are #11.

11/14: 72-57. 16, 11 for Hays at SF; he’s probably our best player. 15, 8 for Marx at C, 14, 6 for Reed at SG, 10, 8, 7 for PG Kell Wynn. +11 RBs but 20 TOs.

#3 seed, #9 ranked Stanford is next. Our outside guys will face a real challenge in this game.

11/16: 84-80. +13 RBs and only 11 TOs (-2). Our guard stepped up. They didn’t outplay Stanford’s guards but they held them in check reasonably well while our big guys controlled the inside. 13, 12 for Hays, 16, 7 for Reed, 16, 5 for sub SF Ed Hobbs, 10, 9 for Marx.

#2 seed, #7 ranked Syracuse in the semifinals. Tough team, they have the edge on us everywhere except SF. We’ll need to play well.

11/18: 91-95. We hung tough all the way. 15, 14 for Hays, 18 for Wynn, 21 for sub guard Aron Angi, but both he and Wynn fouled out late, and that’s when we lost the game. 9, 12 for PF John Daws. 44 RBs, 11 TOs. We really did play well. It’s early.

11/20: 2-1. #11.

All four recruits sign. Angi is getting most of Hobbs’ PT.

The Nuremberg war crimes trials begin.

12/4: 4-3. #12, RPI #18. Tough schedule. Angi is getting more and more PT.

12/25: We end pre-conf. play at a respectable 7-4, #18, RPI #9. +3.9 PPG, 9.3 RBs, -2.6 TOs. Only turning the other team over 9.7 times PG. We played 7 ranked teams.

1/1/1946: 9-4, 2-0. #16, RPI #7. We beat #8 ranked Indiana. Great start to Big 10 play!

Under duress from U. S. Gen. MacArthur, the Emperor of Japan declares that he is not descended from a Shinto goddess.

1/15: 12-5, 5-1, #15, RPI #19. We gave up 66 points IN THE 2ND HALF of our last game, the loss. Life is NOT going to be pleasant in practice this week. Tied for 2nd, 1 back of 1st.

Hays leads us with 16.5 and 12.1.

First meeting of the newly formed United Nations.

1/22: The C. I. A., lamentably, is created.

1/29: 16-5, 9-1, #13, RPI #14. I think we’re underrated. We’re on fire, beating excellent teams both home and away. Tied for 1st with #7 Iowa. +7.0 PPG, +9.9 RBs,
Even in TOs at 11.3. SF Luis Hays leads us with 17.2 and 12.4. He’s #5 on the Norton list and PG Lon Reed is #28; Reed gets 15.2 PPG. We have 6 getting 10.2 or more PPG. We’re #2 nationally in PPG, #3 in RBs and Assists, #8 in TOs.

2 games against top 10 teams left, 1 away, then 1 at home.

2/12: 19-6, 12-2, tied for 1st in the Big 10. #13, RPI #11. Still underrated. We should be top 10, maybe top 5. Hays has dropped to #7 on the Norton list.

2/26: We end the regular season at 23-6, 16-2, #13, RPI #10. Tied for 1st in the Big 10, #1 seed. +7.7 PPG, +10.0 RBs, +0.6 TOs.

3/5: Hays is #6 on the Norton list.

Churchill makes his famous “iron curtain” speech, in Missouri.

3/7: We play #9 seed Northwestern, 14-15, 8-10, to open the Big 10 tourney. We beat them by 21 in the regular season.

3/8: 86-62. 18, 6 for 6th man John Daws. 4 players get 15 each, 3 of them with 10 or more RBs. +16 RBs.

Putting Aron Angi in the starting lineup in January really turned us around!

#4 seed, #13 ranked Indiana, 24-6, 13-5, in the semifinal round. We beat them by 17 at our place, and by 5 in OT there. They’re a very good team.

3/9: 75-82. 16 TOs hurt. It was a close game all the way. They made 13 threes to our 10. 21, 7 for Hays.

24-7, 16-2, #13, RPI #10. Indiana won the Big 10 tourney. Hoping for a #2 seed.

3/12: #3 East. We face #14 Northwestern, 19-12. Tough bracket.

3/16: 72-59. +19 at the half. 17 each for Marx and Wynn.

#11 seed Minnesota, 18-13, in round 2. We won by 14 there.

3/18: 70-58. 27, 14 for Hays, 13, 16 for Marx, 13, 4, 4 for Reed, 19 RBs for Angi. 64 RBs! 9 TOs.

We’re in the Sweet Sixteen vs. #2 seed, #9 ranked Florida, 29-5. They lost their #1 scorer to grades at the semester break but it hasn’t hurt them much. This shapes
up as a close game.

3/23: 87-68! Luis Hays led us with 22 and 12, with 3 blocks, but all 6 who play regularly had 10 or more. +14 RBs,, +10 TOs. We really played well!

And #4 seed, #11 ranked Indiana, 29-6, beat the #1 overall seed, Arizona. We’ve beaten them three times. Beating a really good team four times is a huge challenge.

3/25: 61-72. 16, 12 for Hays, who is only a soph, thankfully! 13, 6 for Wynn. Neither team shot well at all. Fouls were the difference. They took 48 free throws, we
took 21. I never get technical fouls but once the outcome was decided I took one. I felt I had to register my feelings. The officiating was truly terrible.

Still, a very good first season here at Maryland. We have 3 top ten recruits, and a great transfer coming in, and everyone back except for Center Todd Marx. I hope to challenge for the national title!

4/3: #1 ranked Duke wins the national title.

400,000 miners strike in the U.S., over wages and horribly dangerous working conditions.

4/4: Awards: Luis Hays is 2nd team All American. In conf., he made 1st team. Marx should have made 2nd. I’m not happy that he didn’t. I got Big 10 COY.

4/15: Revolution in China. War between brutal dictator Chiang Kai-Chek, and Communist leader Mao Zedong, seems imminent.

4/23: I ask for a facilities upgrade. No.

27-8, 16-2, Elite Eight. Great first season. Overall, I’m 397-161, for 17 seasons.

Looking forward to a great season!

The National Basketball Association (NBA) is formed with 8 teams.

6/26: 4 scholarships. 2 and 2.

10/2: 1st day of practice. This is the best team I’ve ever coached. Still chasing that guard.

11/5: Richard Nixon (U. S. House) and Joseph McCarthy (U. S. Senate) are both elected for the first time. A dark day.

11/6: 8 man rotation:

11/13: We begin the season at the Coaches Classic vs. Iowa ST. We are the #3 seed, they are #14.

92-58. Never a game. 28, 15 for SG Ike Puro, 22, 12 for PF Eric Bent, 16, 10 for SF Luis Hays, 13, 8 for C Rod Olds. 63 RBs!

#6 seed, #11 ranked Georgetown, in the 1/4 finals.

11/15: 78-52. Never close. 9, 22 for Bent, 14, 13 for Olds, 14, 9 for Puro, 13, 7 for Hays. 68 RBs!

#2 seed, #8 ranked Indiana in the semifinals.

11/17: 94-90, but they hit a 3 at the buzzer, and that was as close as the game was after the first 2 minutes. We never trailed. 26, 13 for Olds, 34 for Puro, 12, 12 for Hays. 49 RBs.

#5 seed, #13 ranked Kansas for the title.

11/19: 92-72. This one was close for 25 minutes. 25, 13 for Hays, 19, 8 for Puro, 20, 6 for Olds, 10 each for Bent and Gain.

11/20: #1 ranked. 4-0. Puro leads us with 23.8, 8.8, and Hays, Olds, and Bent all average a double double. Look out world!

All 3 recruits sign. Still chasing a guard.

12/4: 8-0, #2, RPI 1. In our last 3 games we beat #10, there, by 19, #16, here, by 22, and #1 here, by 12. And we’re not #1? I’m guessing we will be next week if we keep winning.
Puro is getting 26.1 PPG. He had 38 vs. #1 Duke.

This team really has everything. We need to tighten up our D some though. But given that we’re #1 in PPG at 90.1…

12/25: 12-0 going to Big 10 play. #2, RPI #2. +21.6 PPG (#1 PPG), +18.5 RBs (#2), +2 TOs (#10). #1 in assists, #3 in blocks.

24.9, 8.8 for SG Ike Puro. 19.3, 10.7 for PF/C Rod Olds, 11.3, 11.3 for C/PF Eric Bent, 25.7, 9.6 for SF Luis Hays. None are seniors, and we have the #1, 3, and 4 recruits coming in next season!

5 games against top 8 teams coming up in conf. 2 on the road.

The French set out to destroy the Viet Minh in Vietnam. They predict total victory within 8 days.
