11/19: 70-76. We stayed close all the way and played our hearts out. 21, 7 for Deni.

11/20: 2-1. We’re looking at lineup adjustments but we’ll wait another week.

All 5 recruits sign. Still chasing one more.

3/6: We play #8 seed Boise ST, 11-17, 5-13, in the 1st round.

3/7: 56-66. The offense simply wasn’t there. We shot 29.2%, 5-38 on threes. This will hurt us regarding seeding in the NCAA tourney.

23-6, 16-2. #19, RPI #16.

3/12: #5 West. We play #12 Nicholls ST, 24-5.

Gaddafi and Rayguns are in a pissing contest.

3/17: 61-73. Awful game, terribly disappointing post season.

4/3: #9 Utah is the champion.

4/4: Awards: Reg Raff is Conf. Def. POY and 2nd team. Gilo Deni makes 1st team. I get Conf. COY.

4/23: I ask for a facilities upgrade. C+ to B+. Didn’t expect to get it!

23-7, 16-2. Overall, 121-40, .752.

11/17: 1-0 going to the Tip Off vs. Miami (OH). We’re the #5 seed, they’re #4.

11/18: 75-66. 20 for SF Odel Heat, 16 for sub guard Cob Wood.

#1 seed, Ohio ST, 1-1, in the semifinals.

11/19: 70-80. The refs killed us. They went to the line 40 times, we went 14; 2 of our guys fouled out and 2 others had 4 fouls. Only one guy on their team had as many as 3 fouls. Not happy with our D but REALLY not happy with the Three Blind Mice. Heat had another good game, and Howe had 21 at the point.

Both recruits signed. Still chasing one more.

11/20: 2-1. Still working on the lineup.

12/4: 6-1, RPI #60.

12/25: 8-2, RPI #69. +10.6 PPG, -1.6 RBs, +6.9 TOs, +3.0 assists, +4.0 steals.

1/29: 17-3, 9-1, ranked #25, RPI #18. +12.3 PPG, -0.1 RBs, +7.1 TOs. +2.8 assists, +4.1 steals. We have a 2 game lead in conf.

2/12: 19-5, 11-3, #25, RPI #24. 1 up on New Mexico, 2 or more on the rest.

3/6: We play #9 seed Air Force, 15-15, 7-11, in the 1st round. We beat them by 11 and 13 in the regular season.

3/7: 70-48. Never a game. 17, 9, 9 for PF Joe Coal, 15, 10, 4, 3 for SG Troy Hawk, 12, 5 for PG Cob Wood. +12 TOs.

#5 seed UNLV, 16-12, 10-8, in the semifinals. We won by 17, then lost by 15 in the regular season.

23-7, 14-4, RPI #26.

3/12: #9 Midwest. We face #8 Minnesota, 19-12. Tough match up, and if we survive it, we get the #1 seed.

3/16: 80-59. We played really well tonight. 19 for Hawk, 17, 7 for SF Odel Heat, 12 for Wood. +9 RBs. We shot 53.7%.

#1 seed, #4 ranked Wake Forest, 27-6, in the 2nd round. This is a very good team.

3/18: 57-67. We won the inside game, lost the outside game. 21, 15, 4 for C Rash Finn, 10 each for Heat and Coal. Our top 3 guards had a total of 15 points.

11/20: 1-1 in two road games. We play at home then off to the palmetto where we play the #1 seed, Marquette. We’re #8.

Both recruits signed but we’re chasing two others.

11/25: 77-64. They were up by 7 at the half. We played a great 2nd. 25, 6, 4 for SG Joe Coal, 14, 7 for PF Mel Witt.

#4 seed Charlotte, 2-1, in the semifinals.

11/26: 73-62. 19 for Coal, 13, 8 for Witt. 6 TOs (+17).

We’re #23. We play #3 seed, #24 ranked Tulane, 4-0, for the title.

11/27: 71-55. 21 for PG Tav Howe, 14 for Coal. +14 RBs, 10 TOs.

12/12: 8-1, #17, RPI #20.

12/25: 9-2. We lost by 2 at Pitt. It was a game we could have easily won.

#21, RPI #17. +13.0 PPG, -0.6 RBs, +9.3 TOs, +2.7 assists, +6.3 steals. Joe Coal, leads us with 14.1 PPG, but 4 players average 11.5 or better.

1/1/1984: 1-1 start to conf. play.

1/15: 15-3, 6-1, #16, RPI #12. In 1st, but it’s at least a 6 team race.

1/29: 16-5, 7-3, #20, RPI #15. Tied for 1st with Air Force, with 4 teams 1 back. +11.0 PPG, +0.4 RBs, +8.6 TOs, +2.6 assists, +5.4 steals.

2/12: 18-7, 9-5. #24, RPI #19. In 1 5 way tie for 1st, with 2 teams 1 back. 3 of our last 4 are at home.

2/26: 23-7, 13-5, going to the post season. 1st in conf. +9.6 PPG, +0.1 RBs, +7.9 TOs, +1.8 assists, +4.9 steals.

I had a dream where I was a referee constantly calling charging fouls against one player simply because I didn't like his looks.

3/6: We play #8 seed Boise ST, 13-16, 6-12, in the 1st round.

3/7: 82-66. 21, 7 for SG Joe Coal, 16, 6 for PF Mel Witt. +9 RBs, 8 TOs.

#4 seed UNLV, 21-9, 12-6, in the semis. They ended tied for 2nd with 2 other teams. We beat them by 20 at our place.

3/8: 93-88 in OT. This was a battle all the way. 26, 7 for PG Tav Howe, 20, 6 for SF Odel Heat, 19, 6, 4 for Coal. We got a hot hand in OT.

#2 seed Air Force, 20-10, 12-6, for the title. They beat us by 14 there, but we think we’re the better team.

3/9: 71-65. 18 lead changes, 9 ties. As we did in the semis, we came on late. 11, 6, 3, 5 for Coal, 14, 5 for 6th man Phil Tins.

26-7, 13-5, #16, RPI #11. Hoping for a #3 seed.

3/12: #5 Midwest. We’re not happy with a #5. We play #12 Tulane, 21-11. We beat them by 16 in the Palmetto title game.

3/16: 76-75. Tav Howe did it alone on the last play of the game, getting the in bounds pass, bringing it all the way down court himself, taking a 15 footer and
hitting it as the buzzer sounded. He led us with 15. 14 for Coal, 12, 8 for Witt, 12, 5 for Heat. We were +11 in TOs, and we stayed out of foul trouble. Great win!

#4 seed Washington, 23-8, in the 2nd round. They have very good guards.

3/18: 70-72. Tough, tough loss. 70-70, we had the ball, with about 3.5 left. They stole a pass threw it up ahead to their PG, who ran ahead of the field for an uncontested layup. 21, 11 for Heat. I won’t sleep all night after this one.

4/3: Battle between #24 and #25 for the national title, a #4 seed vs. a #6 seed. #25 Washington, a #6 seed, won.

4/4: Joe Coal is Conf. POY and 1st team, along with Mel Witt. Tav Howe is 2nd team and I am Conf. COY.

4/23: We paid a lot for a #2 assistant, so we ask for $. We get $10,000.

27-8, 13-5. Overall, 172-56, .754.
