Insanely High Number of Draftees...

If you check the below site out you will see a list of top undrafted free agents in the country for 2017. 239 total of which 104 were reported signed on last update with 224 drafted that would be about 463 in the draft class.

It depends how much we want to mirror NFL (or that ratio). They have the 224 picks plus supplemental. Most teams claim 10-15 UFA's and there were 466 UFA's claimed by teams this year. That puts the total around 700.

I agree with Rob that it can feel stretched to have that many, so not sure the right amount.

Its difficult to compare this game to the NFL because the NFL doesn't deal with ratings, they deal with people. We know who will end up on rosters and who won't. So having 600+ players and only 224 getting drafted is overkill. I want to reiterate that 385 has seemed like a solid number to go with. Anything more is overkill.. though going less than that would be acceptable, too. 385 gives you 161 undrafted players... some of which will end up on rosters but not all.

Fair enough opinion. I'm thinking with the new game scouting we may miss some guys like the NFL scouts do, especially with traits like there are in DDSCF. Also, in my online and solo leagues, I'm pretty happy with where FA talent levels lie (using the 544 number). I'd hate to see that quality drop too much.

Brooks, could you just lower the required number but keep the current game generated numbers?

That's all I'm requesting is the required level. I'm fine with career modes generating a ton of players, that is not an issue at all.

Yea, I can tweak is so that if you import a file it doesn't add any players (as long as you meet the total number of picks). That way you don't have to add any unwanted players to the game.

Roughly 300 enter the NFL draft every year, with around 245-255 actually getting drafted. This includes 224 for the seven rounds, and then additional compensation picks.

For player generation we tend to create more than we need just to make sure all positions are covered and we get a better spread of skills. But for imported files we can remove the additional players and let the importer decide how to handle it.

What is the "retirement-ratio" ? Seems to be a good idea to mirror the number of new players at least partly on this, no ?
