Defensive Alignment - Custom

If we select a custom game plan, then in regards to defense, how do we know whether we are running a 4-3 or 3-4 (or 3-3-5 for that matter)? There should be a ddlb for that option in the Team Strategy - Game Plan screen I believe, because if we don't go with the coaches game plan it seems we have no way of telling the computer which alignment we want.
