Free Agency

Free Agency

I seem to be missing a certain period before to be free agents on the team fall into the FA pool and maybe resigned? I keep loosing key players to free agency. Is there a specific time to retain players before the dump to the FA pool?

So no contract extending? keeping a teams core together isn't possible?

Yes there is contract extending - players have to be signed for a certain number of years before their contract can be extended. Many players now are on shorter contracts that would not make them eligible to be extended but often times you have the upper hand in free agency itself by using bird rights to resign your players in free agency. For the most part every player though is going to go to free agency - it makes sense for the player to become a free agent because that is the way he can get the most money even if its just by resigning with his prior team. If you're aggressive with your offers early in FA then your players should resign with you unless there is something in particular they are unhappy with (ie your team stinks, they don't like the coach or maybe a certain player on the team, you've lowballed them in extension talks etc...)

Oh, ok.

One more question about Free Agency... under a players demand line, is $ what they want per year for that many years or is it the total amount over those years? Like when I click to sign a guy and they have a demand of 25,000,000/4 years is that 25 mill over 4 years or 25 mill per season for 4 years?

That's almost always a higher-than-will-accept number though. A good starting point for finding a plausible salary in a lot of cases, though sometimes you'll end up getting screwed over if another team offers him the max. Just keep an eye out on how many offers hes getting, its in the free agency tab.
